1.closed 2.women 3.rang 4.where 5.At 6.a 7.to see 8.him 9.and / or 10.happily 【解析】本文是一篇记叙文。 1.“The shop was ___1___ (close) on Sunday and Monday.”the shop和close之间是被动关系,所以应该用close的被动语态的形式,故填closed。 2.“Two ___2___ (woman) worked inside.” 3.“They ___3___ (ring) up sales and put the items into plastic bags for the customers to carry out.” 4.“At the back of the shop was a big room ___4___ another lady worked She sorted the new donations (捐赠物).” 5.“___5___ the end of each day, she would bring the new donations out to the main part of the shop.”考查固定短语“at the end of在…的末尾”,故填At。 6.“Everyone who worked at the shop was ___6___ volunteer (志愿者).” was为动词,volunteer为名词,因此,横线处应使用冠词修饰名词。故填a。 7.“The only payment they received was that they had the chance ___7___ (see) and buy any items in the shop before the customers did.”本题考查固定搭配“have the chance to do有机会做某事”,故填to see。 8.“When Jim entered, a lady said hello to ___8___ (he).”to为介词,后面的部分为宾语。 9.“‘It’s always old ___9___ used,’”old与used都为形容词,是一种并列的关系,所以填and,而本题根据语境还可以有“或者”的意味,故填and/or。 This is the house where i once lived. 2. You reach a point where medicine can’t help. 例如本题的第4题,“At the back of the shop was a big room ___4___ another lady worked”考查定语从句的引导词。

A few changes about how a teacher runs a classroom can make a huge effect on how concentrated students will be in that classroom. It’s an issue every teacher has to face. 1. Here are just a few of my strategies.

•Rearrange (重新安排) Seats.

I did the seat rearrangement because class conversation had become dull, and students just seemed to be there but not actually there. 2. I had all of my students pick new seats at the tables. The rules were simple. They could not sit with more than one other person they’d already sat with, and it had to be at a different table.

•Take over A Lesson.

Once in a while, it can be fun to let the students take over a lesson in a unit. Let them become the teachers, and the teacher becomes the student You can provide the topic they need to cover. 3.

• Have Open Projects.

Open projects have been very successful in my class. 4. I used to dictate every part of my project assignments. Students would ask to do things a little differently. And I’d give in, surprised that their ideas were better than mine.

5.

Sometimes teachers forget to bring the fun to the classroom. We try so hard to cover the courses for our students until they break down. Sometimes it’s good to just set things aside for a day or two and have some fun.

A. Have fun.

B. Listen carefully.

C. But it can be solved in some very simple ways.

D. Let the students choose the topic and teach whatever they want.

E. It’s one of the simplest ways to rearrange a class and get things going again.

F. They get to deal with the material in a way that is refreshing and new to them.

G. I’ve found that the more choices I gave my students, the better the projects have been.

Smartphones, tablets and laptops make it easy for people to work on the go, but traditionally, printers have been cumbersome to move out of the office. However, the new Zuta Pocket Printer will enable people to print anywhere.

The Zuta Pocket Printer was invented by Zuta Labs, based in Jerusalem. This small printer is about 10.2 cm wide and long and 7.5 cm high, and weighs about 350 grams. The company plans to ship its printers to customers in the beginning of 2017.

This printer can connect wirelessly to smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs via Wi-Fi, and is supported by Android, iOS, OS X and Windows. A free application from the company lets you use the printer via a mobile appliance; a laptop or PC can also select the printer for use just like any other wirelessly connected printer. This printer can print one average A4 page, measuring 21 by 29.7 cm. Zuta Labs noted that its printer can print on any standard size piece of paper, and that, in principle, it could print on any surface.

The printer’s “omni-wheels” help it turn and move in any direction on a surface. Laser sensors (激光传感器) help control the movement, speed and location, according to the company.

Zuta Labs said the printer’s rechargeable battery can last about 1 hour, on average~long enough to print about 60 pages. Spring soccer season is under way, and many youth leagues are playing under new safety rules. In November, the US Soccer Federation said that players on its teams who are 10 or younger are no longer allowed to head the ball Players ages 11 to 13 have limits on how often they can practice heading. The new rules are made to prevent kids from getting concussions (脑震荡)—injuries caused by a blow to the head that shakes the brain. Common problems include headaches and dizziness. Severe concussions can lead to long brain damage.

Heading the ball can be one of the riskiest parts of soccer. Sometimes the force of hitting the ball with their heads gives players concussions. But more often, players receive concussions when they accidentally knock heads with other players and hit their heads on the grass. “More concussions happen during the act of heading than any other action in soccer,” explains Dr. Robert Cantu, an expert on brain injuries.

So far, the new rules are made only to teams that are part of the US Soccer Federation. But the group says it hopes other leagues will soon follow its example.

Former US soccer star Brandi Chastain is one of the leaders of the activity to ban heading in youth soccer. She applauds the rule change. Last month, Chastain showed her determination of learning more about the effects of heading when she promised to donate her brain to science after she dies.

“If there’s any information to be gathered on the study of someone like me,who has played soccer for 40 years, it feels like my responsibility,” Chastain told The New York Times.

In a time when ivory poaching (偷猎) has gotten so bad that it threatens to wipe out several animal species, a young Dutch designer is creating “egalitarian (平等主义) jewelry^ made of our very own ivory—teeth.

Lucie Majerus got the idea for her “human ivory” collection after having her wisdom teeth removed. She kept them and soon realized they would make great material for a jewelry collection. “Why wouldn’t we value our own material instead of the precious material from other species? And what if we mine our own ivory and turn it into pearls?” she asks.

Her own teeth became a ring, but in order to create a whole collection, she needed more material, and since having more of her teeth removed wasn’t a very pleasant choice, she asked her dentist to save his patient’s unwanted teeth. Most people choose not to keep their pulled teeth, so they are usually donated to dentistry schools. Majerus also received the lost teeth of two of her teachers at Design Academy Eindhoven, so she had a nice supply of human ivory to experiment with.

To turn human teeth into attractive pieces of jewelry, Lucie Majerus first bleaches (漂白) them, and then uses a stone polishing machine to shape the teeth into various shapes.

Majerus displayed her human ivory jewelry collection at this year’s Dutch Design Week, and claims that people’s reaction was mostly positive. “Surprisingly, most people aren’t frightened at the sight of the jewelry, but really like the idea,” Majerus told Fast Co Design. “Some regret that they didn’t keep their tooth at the dentist and some, who will have teeth taken out soon, are now looking forward to it.”

1.When did Majerus get the idea of collecting human ivory?
