There are a lot of people who are overweight all over the world. What causes obesity? If you get the gene(基因), well, probably you are going to be a few more pounds heavier compared to the rest of your classmates or friends. 1. Obesity can not only make a person look heavy, and not in the usual sense of being handsome, but can also lead to serious health conditions and life-threatening diseases.
2. Indeed, junk food has been blamed for the prevalence(流行)of obesity. It is called junk food, because hamburger, pizza and the like contain high calories. If you eat a Big Mac (a super hamburger), an order of large fries, and a large Coke, you will need to walk non-stop for six hours to burn off the calories you have gained. And don’t be fooled by soft drinks, which are high in sugar and are a major cause of obesity.
3. Popular sugary drinks, of course, include Coca Cola, Pepsi(百事) Cola, and many new brands that appear on the market every couple of days.
4. Just one 20-ounce (about 567g) bottle of soda can have 250 calories, which are equal to more than 16 teaspoons of added sugars. Even a lemon-flavored iced tea can have 210 calories.
5. Next time, when you are ready to eat that huge Mac and to drink that two-liter bottle of Pepsi, probably it’s a good idea to give it a second thought.
A. Obesity is more common in women than men.
B. Most people don’t realize how easy it is to gain weight from drink sugar-sweetened beverages(饮料)
C. When we talk about obesity, the first thought that comes to mind is: junk food.
D. The unburnt calories will put weight on you.
E. Keeping healthy is our own responsibility.
F. Because of their high content of sugar, soft drinks are also called sugary drinks.
G. However, the most common cause of obesity is eating too much, especially too much junk food.
With all of the wonderful things life brings us, it also brings us stress. It is for this reason that I am an active supporter of mental health days.
Although it’s never good to ignore(忽视) responsibilities, sometimes it is good to unplug(拔除) from the world for a day. We eat healthy and stay active to keep us from getting sick, but sometimes we forget to care for our minds. Our minds and bodies are connected, and when only one is being cared for, the other may be suffering. It is important to try to combine self care with our lives and spend time on activities we enjoy. This helps relieve stress on a daily day.
So, what do you do on a mental health day? The answer is anything you want. Growing up, my brother and I were allowed a few mental health days a year. We would stay home from school and relax. For him, it was playing games on the computer, while my days were spent reading or watching TV. My mental health days now include picking things up around my apartment, cooking a tasty meal, and then reading for a few hours. I completely shut myself off from work or school. To me, this is relaxing. Organize the clutter(凌乱的东西) that piles up during the week, cook the meals I don’t have time to cook, and read the books that I’ve bought but don’t have time to read.
A mental health day is great, but only if it’s supplemented(增补) with self care through the week. From my experience, if self care is not regularly provided in your week, taking a mental health day is just going to stress you out even more. But when it’s needed, try hard to recognize that and take care of yourself. It will help keep you happy and healthy. A mental health day is not a day to avoid life, it is a day to recoup(恢复).
1.What can we infer from Paragraph 2 ?
A. People tend to ignore their mental health.

A. He cooked for his family. B. He played computer games.
C. He watched TV programs D. He read the books he bought.
4.According to the last paragraph, to keep mentally healthy, _______.
A. one needs help and care from other.
B. leading a regular life is unnecessary.
C. mental health days are not enough.
D. one should try to be physically friendly.
Food serves as a form of communication in two basic ways. Sharing bread or other foods is a common human tradition that can promote unity and trust. Food can also have a special meaning, and play an important role in a family or culture’s celebrations or traditions. The foods we eat—and when and how we eat them—are often unique to a particular culture or may even differ between rural(郊区的) and urban(市区的) areas within one country.
Sharing bread, whether during a special occasion(时刻) or at the family dinner table, is a common symbol of togetherness. Many cultures also celebrate birthdays and marriages with cakes that are cut and shared among the guests. Early forms of cake were simply a kind of bread, so this tradition has its roots in the custom of sharing bread.
Food also plays an important role in many New Year celebrations. In the southern United States, pieces of corn bread stand for blocks of gold for prosperity(兴旺) in the New Year. In Greece, people share a special cake called vasilopita. A coin is put into the cake, which signifies(预示) success in the New Year for the person who receives it.
Many cultures have ceremonies to celebrate the birth of a child, and food can play a significant role. In China, when a baby is one month old, families name and welcome their child in a celebration that includes giving red-colored eggs to guests. In many cultures, round foods such as grapes, bread, and moon cakes are eaten at welcome celebrations to represent family unity.
Nutrition(营养) is necessary for life, so it is not surprising that food is such an important part of different cultures around the world.

In the early morning, I head for the back door and find 10 inches of snow covering our home. Oh no, Bryan will have to clear the roof again, I think. But Rio rolls onto his back, playing in the white snow and kicking his back legs, delighted. His days in an animal shelter in New Mexico are long forgotten—he’s wholeheartedly enjoyed life as a Colorado dog.
Rio needs a walk. I’ve planned to attend an emergent webinar, but my husband is busy clearing. Rio pushes my leg with his snout(口鼻部), wondering why we are still inside. We’re late for our morning hike. I pull on my boots reluctantly. I don’t have time for this!
Rio and I walk a block through our neighborhood to the beginning of a road. Rio jumps happily into the snow, which is up to his neck. But I walk slowly with heavy steps, worrying about my to-do list, and I don’t notice the world around me until Rio starts barking.
A squirrel (松鼠) chitters at him from a high branch of a pine tree. We haven’t seen a squirrel in at least a week because of all the snow storms, so this is a treat for us.
Once again, my animal teacher is reminding me to enjoy the present moment, and I’m grateful. I take a deep breath and look around. Suddenly there is an explosion(爆炸) of snow. a nearby tree has released its heavy burden, snapping(迅速恢复) back upright. Silver snowflakes(雪花) dust the air around me as a group of birds flees the area, talking to one another as they fly overhead.
I watch and listen in wonder for what seems like a full minute. There will be 1440 munites on this day, but this is the one I’ll remember most. Then I look back to the earth and there is my sweet dog, waiting patiently for a treat. He knows I’ll want to celebrate this moment we’ve just shared. “I love you, Rio!” I say as I give him a cookie. He has trained me well!
When we walk home, I smile broadly, spirit washed clean, ready for whatever the day may bring.
