During the summer of 2001, I started reading books by English, mostly stories. I would learn a lot of new words from these books, but I had terribly problems memorizing them. I had to look up to the same word many times, for which was quite troublesome. I realized I do need a way to remember all these new words. It was a great success for myself. I started writing down words from books that I read. I would come back from school and then sit for an hour and two. I wrote down new words and added it to my collection. By the end of last year, my collection has grown to 3000 words.

。 1.“During the summer of 2001, I started reading books by English, mostly stories.” 语言”应为固定搭配“in English”,故将by改为in。 2.“but I had terribly problems memorizing them.” 3.“I had to look up to the same word many times”根据语境可知,作者必须要查很多次同一个单词。而“look up to”意为向上看、尊敬,查阅应为“look up”。故删掉to。 4. “I had to look up to the same word many times, for which was quite troublesome.” 5.“I realized I do need a way to remember all these new words.” 6.“It was a great success for myself.” 考查“for myself为我自己”与“for me对我而言”的区别,本题语义应为“这对我而言是一个巨大的成功。”故将myself改为me。 7.“I started writing down words from books that I read.”“the”用来限制特定的事物,本句中的书是特指作者在夏天看的书,是特定的,故添加the。 8.“I would come back from school and then sit for an hour and two.” 考查固定短语“一两个小时an hour or two”,故讲and改为or。 9.“I wrote down new words and added it to my collection.”这里的words为可数名词复数形式,因此代指它们时应用them,故将it改为them。 10.“By the end of last year, my collection has grown to 3000 words.”作者词汇量的增长是已经发生过的事,因此应使用过去完成时,故将has改为had。 【名师点睛】 Look up、look up to与look for的辨析: 1.look up可以为查阅,比如查字典。eg:I look up a few words.我查了几个单词。 look up还有其他的解释:向上看, 尊敬, 仰望, 拜访, 好转。例如:Look up an old friend. 拜访一个老朋友。 2.而look up to则表示尊敬、崇拜。例如:A lot of the younger ones look up to you.很多年轻人都崇拜你。 3.look for为寻找。例如:I'm looking for my car. 我在找我的车。 例如本题的第3题。“I had to look up to the same word many times”这里作者的意思是他必须要查很多次同一个单词。而原句中的“look up to”意为向上看、尊敬,与查单词使用的短语不符合,查阅单词应使用“look up”。故删掉to。

Norah had a cottage on a cliff above a big bay. In winter it could be very nasty because of strong winds and sea spray. In fact, when a gale was blowing, Norah and her husband got used to sleeping in a small room downstairs, because their bedroom upstairs, which faced the gales, had a very big window, and they were afraid that an extra violent gust might break it and blow pieces of broken glass over them.

Also, the salt spray from the sea put an end to many of the colourful plants Norah planted in her garden. She tried putting up a fence to protect them, but the wind just hit it, went up over the top and then down the other side, so in the end she filled the garden with trees and bushes that liked salt.

But most of the summer Norah enjoyed her cottage and garden very much. At weekends she could sit out of doors in the sun, looking at the beautiful view, with interesting ships and boats passing by, and she could very easily cycle down to the sea for a swim.

Now, Norah and her husband had plenty of friends and relations. In the summer lots of them used to come to enjoy the beautiful place, and in the end it really became quite annoying for Norah and her husband. When they were at home, they found friends and relations arriving, expecting to be given unlimited drinks and meals, and to sit in the sun for hours, talking as if Norah and her husband had nothing else to do but entertain and listen to them.

This went on for several years. Norah did not wish to appear rude by refusing to let her friends and relations in, but on the other hand, she was getting tired every summer. Then one day Norah was complaining about this to her hairdresser while she was doing her hair. “You’re disturbed by too many uninvited guests, are you?” said the hairdresser. “Why don’t you try my way of escaping?”

“What’s that?” asked Norah.

“Well,” the hairdresser answered, “when the bell rings, I put on my coat and take my shopping bag. If it’s someone I don’t want to see, I say innocently,’ I’m sorry, but I’ve got to go out.’ But...”

A. If I am tired, I say, “Sorry, can you come next time?”

B. If it’s someone I like to see, I say, “How lucky! I’ve just come in!”

C. If it’s someone I like to see, I say, “How happy to see you! I was going shopping, but now I’ve changed my mind.”

E-mail systems at thousands of companies and government offices around the world were attacked by a virus(病毒)called “Melissa” that disguises(伪装)itself as an “important message”from a friend. In spite of a weekend of warningsmore than 50 000 computers at about 100 places around the world have been attacked by the viruscomputer security experts said on Monday.

The virus began to show up last Friday and spread rapidly on Monday by making computers fire off dozens of infected(被传染的)e-mails. Although the virus causes no serious damage to a computerits effect was far reaching.

To make matters worsea similar virus called “Papa” was discovered on Monday. Papa is programmed to send out even more infected e-mails than Melissa.

The Melissa virus comes in the form of an e-mailusually containing the subject line“Important Message”. It appears to be from a friend. The body of the e-mail message says“Here is that document you asked for...,don’t show it to anyone else.” Attached()to the message is a document file.

Once the user opens that filethe virus digs into the user’s address book and sends infected documents to the first 50 addresses. E-mails from the Papa virus include an attached spreadsheet(电子数据文件)file. When the user opens that filethe virus sends 60 infected e-mails.

The reason why this is spreading so fast is that you are getting it from people you know. You should never open documents or attachments from people you don’t know. People who get an unexpected e-mail with the “important message” subject line should delete it immediately and not open the message.
