Joan Chen is famous both in China, where she grew up, and in the United States, where she now lives. How did Joan become a famous actress in two countries? It’s an interesting story.

Joan Chen was born in Shanghai in 1961. When she was 14, some people from a film studio (制片厂) came to her school and chose her to study at the studio. She was happy about this chance, but mainly she liked the idea of getting out of school. Soon, however she discovered that she really liked acting. At age 18, she won the Golden Rooster, China's top film prize.

In the late 1970s, Joan's parents, who were doctors, moved to the United States. Joan joined them when she was 20 and went to college there. Her parents hoped she would study medicine. Instead, she majored in(主修) film and later looked for work as an actress. To work in the United States, Joan had to start all over again. She told Hollywood that she was an actress in China, but she only got some small parts in TV shows.

One day Joan went to speak to a director who was making a movie called Tai --pan. The interview didn't go well. As she walked away, a man in a car noticed her. The man was Dino De Laurntiis, the film’s producer(制造者). He immediately offered her a leading(主要的) part. 1.C 2.D 3.B 【解析】试题分析:本文是一篇记叙文。讲述著名电影演员Joan Chen的生平事迹以及她如何成为世界著名演员的经历。 1.推理判断题。由第二段句子When she was 14, some people from a film studio came to her school and chose her to study at the studio.可知,A错误;由 “…but mainly she liked the idea of getting out of school…”可以推断,她去录音工作室的原因是她不喜欢呆在学校,故B选项不正确,C选项正确;由 “Soon, however she discovered that she really liked acting.”可知, D选项错误。故选C。 2.数字计算题。由第三段的第一、二句 In the late 1970s, Joan's parents, who were doctors, moved to the United States. Joan joined them when she was 20 and went to college there.可推断,1961年出生的Joan Chen,20岁去美国上大学,此时应该是 1981年,应是二十世纪80年代早期。故选D。 3.推理判断题。从最后一段句子He immediately offered her a leading part. A year later, she started in Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor and was on her way to worldwide fame.可知,Joan Chen出演主角是在一年后,从此开始走向世界,因此推断参加面试并没有立刻产生好的结果。故选B。

Nowadays, the destruction of forests is one of most serious environment problems. From that I understand, people are destroying thousands of square kilometers of trees every day. This is killing hundreds of wild animals live in the forests. But something must be done. Unfortunately, we don’t do everything to protect the forests.

People who cut down trees should go to prison. That’s what happens in some country to people who sell plastic bags. That’s what should happened to people who destroy the forests. I can’t help but to think that we must protect wildlife for future generations. Hopeful, our children will be even much responsible than we are today.

Do you know how to deal with failure at school? Four steps will help you get the most out of each failure and more on.

1. When you feel bad after failing, talk with your parents or good friends, or any other adult. Then decide to take the duty to improve yourself. Read the teachers’ comments on your test carefully.

Ask yourself what you were trying to do and why you failed. 2.Maybe you didn’t have all the information you needed; maybe you made a mistake or a poor decision. If so, give yourself a pat on the back. Fewer people ever get something right the first time they try it, and often it takes them many times. 3.Sometimes the failure isn’t because of something you did or didn’t do; it is someone else’s fault. But don’t spend time blaming them; instead, move on toward your goals.

4. . Review the situation to see what your choices are. There is a different between making a decision and giving up. Deciding to follow a better way is one thing; simply walking away means you really have failed.

Keep trying again. Successful people are different because they choose their next steps instead of just reacting to feelings. If a goal still important to you, figure out what to do and go after it again.5..

A. No pains, no gains.

B. Don’t give up easily

C. Failure is unavoidable

D. Remove your bad feelings

E. If it isn’t, do your best on something else

F. Actually it was because you were very lazy

G. Usually it was because you were trying out a new skill or learning a new subject.
