To me, the concept of home changes continually along with my age.
In my childhood, home was a string of calls. It seemed that I am provided with less freedom than today’s children. I didn’t have to show up in front of my parents right after school. Instead of, I would go to play with my classmate who lived in the neighborhood. Days passed by as I grew up in a company of those calls. Even now the ringing voices are still echoed in my ears.
With I read more and more, my world has opened up, presenting a broader picture before me. The bed I used sleep in becomes too small, and words of care from my parents begin to sound endlessly. How I wish I could have a space of me own someday!
I grew up on a 50-acre farm in the small rural community of Catawissa, Missouri, as the sixth of seven children. My parents, Archie and Altha, often ______ during meals how everything on the table came from the ______.
Besides running the farm, Dad was also a ______. In the fall of 1970, he was working on a house when the ladder broke ______. His back was fractured in two places an ______ needed rescue.
He stayed in the hospital for three weeks,______ his back to align (校准) correctly so the bones would ______ perfectly.
On Thanksgiving, Dad was still in the hospital. We always butchered pigs the day after the holiday so that we had enough pork ______ for the next year, and that year my uncle ______ with a couple of cousins to help my three older brothers prepare our year’s supply.
After Dad returned home, he was in a back brace, saddened for ______ to work. Worse still, the doctor told us his chance of complete recovery was ______. I was too young to realize our family had no money coming ______ as Christmas approached.
One night we heard a car coming up the long driveway. Always ______ to company, we kids were curious about who was visiting.
Peggy Phelan was at the door, holding an envelope ______ with money which, according to her account, she had ______ in the community. And she was there to ______ it!
Dad tried to ______ but Peggy would have none of it. I can still hear her saying, “Archie, whenever someone’s baler (压捆机) is broken, you bale their hay. Every time someone passes away, Altha is cooking. It’s our ______.”
That evening, I understood what being a good neighbor was, and that ______ my parents were good neighbors, their ______ would be paid back.

Four Body Language Tips for Success
Have you ever been drawn to someone who looks confident and successful at work? There’s something about them - that “it” factor you can’t quite pinpoint. 1. Here are five specific techniques to set up for ongoing success, especially in the workplace.
1.2. You’ve heard how dogs pick up on sounds that the human ear can’t hear. Well, it turns out we pick up on certain tones too, human to human. Simply put, lower, richer tones are more pleasing to us than higher, thin ones.
2. Take on a Powerful Pose. Research by social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows that standing or sitting a certain way triggers immediate changes in your body chemistry.3. Besides, it can influence how others respond to you.
3. Make Eye Contact, But Not Too Much. There is such a thing as too much eye contact. You don’t want to be r rude, but you also want to look like you care. Always make sure to use more eye contact when you are listening than I when you are speaking.
4. Use Your Hands to Improve Speech. If you want to get your point across more effectively, try incorporating I some hand gestures while you speak.4. Speech-associated gestures have been approved to help listeners stay focused and attentive.

B. Mind Your Vocal Tone.
C. This can make you appear more confident.
D. It is time for your body to do some of the talking.
E. Using hand gestures is always a great way to appeal to your listeners.
F. Body language is a primary factor in making a strong first impression.
G. Not only will they make yourself understood, they also keep the listeners engaged.
Cars which can read drivers, brainwaves and speed up their reaction times by judging acceleration, steering (驾驶) and braking, could be available within five to ten years. Pioneered by Nissan, the Japanese motoring giant unveiled their Brain-to-Vehicle technology (B2V) at the CES 2018 trade show in Las Vegas, US. The company claims it will enable vehicles to interpret signals from the driver’s brain, redefining how drivers interact with their cars.
Nissan also said that as well as making road travel safer, the cars will keep adapting to make driving more enjoyable. “When most people think about autonomous driving, they have a very impersonal vision of the future, where humans relinquish control to the machines,” said the company’s Executive President Daniele.
“Yet B2V technology does the opposite, by using signals from their own brain to make the drive even more exciting and enjoyable. Through Nissan Intelligent Mobility, we are moving people to a better world by delivering more autonomy, more electrification and more connectivity.”
The development is the result of Nissan’s research into the use of brain decoding technology which can predict a driver’s actions and detect discomfort. By catching signs that the driver’s brain is about to initiate a movement - such as turning the steering wheel or pushing the accelerator pedal — driver assist technology begins the action more quickly. This can improve reaction times and enhance manual driving.
“Other possible uses include adjusting the vehicle’s internal environment,” said Dr Lucian, who’s leading the B2V research. For example, the technology can use enhanced reality to adjust what the driver sees and create a more relaxing environment. “The potential applications of the technology are incredible. This research will be a boost (促 进) for more Nissan innovation inside our vehicles in the years to come.”
Nissan’s goal is to offer the best driving assistance in manual driving mode so that a driver can be in complete control of his or her car. They hope to implement the technology into their vehicles in between five to ten years.
1.This new technology has many advantages EXCEPT that it can .
A. reduce car accidents B. make the drive more pleasant
C. adapt to tough road conditions D. deliver more connectivity
2.In paragraph two, the underlined word relinquish can be replaced by the phrase .
A. hand over B. take over
C. hand in D. take in
3.How does B2V technology work?
A. By sending out signals to the driver’s brain.
B. By adopting the means of brain coding technology.
C. By foreseeing a driver’s actions and detecting discomfort.
D. By turning the steering wheel or pushing the accelerator pedal.
4.What can we infer from the text?
A. There is no need for human drivers inside the vehicles.
B. Nissan aims to improve the manual driving experience.
C. Nissan has made many innovations inside the vehicles.
D. B2V technology can adjust the vehicle’s internal environment.
Getting your children to stop lying is challenging. There are many influences (TV, movies, video games and some great books) in which lies are common. Children see parents lie to others, if only to be polite. Most parents add to that with tales about the lives and activities of Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy, or to allay fears. (“This will not hurt!”) Parents do this out of love, but for some children, lying can become a problem. The most common reactions to children who lie are explaining why it is wrong and punishment. But as ways of changing behavior, these are ineffective.
However, what counts is to praise. You could ask your child to say something that happened at school that is true. It is not critical what that is. This is about practice. When your child complies, praise him enthusiastically. Be specific: “That was great! You told me what happened just like I asked. Wow!” and give your child a hug or a high five. If your child says something true in the course of her day, praise that behavior too. Aim for one or two interactions like this a day. If you happen to “catch” your child in a lie, be matter-of-fact in your disapproval. Say something like, “That is not true and could get you in trouble outside of the hoe; it is better to say the truth.”
Besides, you should set a good example to your kids and tell the truth explicitly. This could be about something that happened when you were a child or something that happened during the day. It need not be dramatic. Another option is to play a game at dinner. Each person tells one thing that was true that day. Again, give a little praise to the child who normally lies if she plays along.
In most instances, children are unlikely to change behavior or develop the conduct you want. That does not mean ignoring, lying or letting it go. Rather, use very mild punishment (light reprimand, short loss of privilege, a brief time-out). More severe, harsh or enduring punishments (shouting, taking away something for a week, hitting) are not more effective in actually changing the frequency of lying.
Try these procedures for two to three weeks and see where you are. Usually they can be dropped by then. It is unlikely that lying will be completely removed, but with the right encouragement, it can be dramatically lessened.
1.Which punishment is relatively ineffective?
A. A brief time-out.
B. Light reprimand.
C. Short loss of privilege.
D. Taking away something for a week.
2.What can we conclude from the passage?
A. Parents can tell lies sometimes.
B. Lying will disappear thoroughly.
C. Punishment can change behaviors.
D. Praising your kids a lot is beneficial.
3.Which of the following could serve as the best title?
A. Is Lying a Problem?
B. Can Kids Stop Lying?
C. What Can You Do When Kids Tell lies?
D. How Can You Punish Your Kids for Lying?
4.Which best shows the structure of the text?
