A man was driving at 70 miles in a 40-mile-zone, when a police car came behind him with the light on. 1.

As the policeman came to him, he said, "Hi, officer, I guess you caught me a little bit over the limit. I was in a rush to get home, to be with my wife and kids, you know my younger son wasn't feeling too well when I left home this morning."

The policeman said, "Well, I guess so,'' and started writing something in his notebook. 2.. A few moments later, the policeman came to his window and handed him a paper, and returned to his car without saying a single word. The man started to wonder, how much this ticket was going to be as he began to look at the paper. 3.

"I had a daughter who was killed by a speeding car at the age of six, by a speeding driver like you. He got a fine, a few months in prison, and was free, free to hug two other daughters. 4.I have tried to forgive that man a thousand times, and I thought I had. Maybe I really did forgive him, but I have to do it again, even right now.5."

The man was very surprised and could not move for the next few minutes. When finally he did, he drove slowly, even a few miles under the speed limit, praying for forgiveness.

B. I only had one and now I have to wait until I get to heaven before I can hug her again.

D. He was surprised it was not a ticket as he began to read.

E. So pray for me, and be careful when you drive again, my son is all I have left.

F. As minutes went by, he could see from the side view mirror, the policeman was still writing.

G. He was surprised it was not a ticket but a receipt(收据).

1. C 2. F 3. D 4. B 5. I have tried to forgive that man a thousand times及前文I had a daughter who was killed by a speeding car at the age of six可知,此处应该为警察讲起了自己的经历。

You may not be aware, but digital currency (货币) is a big part of the Internet world. QQ Coins can buy you accessories (配饰) for your QQ images. More importantly, a new digital currency, Bitcoin, is bringing the world’s commerce online.

If you’re traveling, you can spend Bitcoins at restaurants and hotels listed at BitcoinTravel.com. In China, Bitcoins can be used to buy goods at about 134 online shops on Taobao. And at a café named 2nd Place in Beijing, you can even buy fresh coffee with Bitcoins.

So what makes Bitcoin so attractive to investors?

First of all, the Bitcoin system is not controlled by anyone. One central authority cannot make policies to change the value of Bitcoins. The fixed amount of Bitcoins also means they cannot lose value through inflation(通货膨胀), as all forms of paper money have done over time.

In addition, accounts in the Bitcoin system are anonymous and transparent. Users can set up an account easily and track every Bitcoin. All of these features seem to make Bitcoins immune(有免疫力的) from loss, but that is not entirely true.

“The value of Bitcoins can vary wildly as no central government makes the price of them steady. If the value drops suddenly, investors cannot get any compensation(赔偿),” Zhao Qingming, a senior researcher at China Construction Bank, told China Economic Weekly. And Bitcoins, unlike company shares, are not backed by any tangible assets(有形资产), which also adds to their risk.

While China will not recognize the digital currency anytime soon, Xinhua said, lawmakers and officials at a hearing on Nov. 18 in the US made positive comments about Bitcoin.

Ben Bernanke, outgoing chairman of the Federal Reserve, told the Washington Post that “these types of creations, such as Bitcoin… may hold long-term promise, particularly if its system promote a faster, more secure and more efficient payment system.”

1.Bitcoin is ______.

A. actually exactly like QQ Coins    B. only used online

C. a new currency used both online and in real life    D. a country’s new digital currency.

2.We can use Bitcoin to buy the following things except ______.

A. online goods    B. goods at 134 online shops on Taobao

C. books in physical shops    D. coffee at a café named 2nd Place

3.What is the disadvantage of Bitcoin?

A. the value of it can rise and fall wildly.

B. It cannot lose value through inflation.

C. Every bitcoin in your account can be followed.

D. It can even be used at some specific restaurants and hotels.

I have a neighbor we call “Happy”. I have never seen her angry at anything and never heard her say a harsh (苛刻) word to anyone or about anyone.

Happy and her husband Ben, 70, have a huge garden. They spent many happy hours together working on it. Most of the neighbors watched interestingly as Ben doubled the size of their garden. As the cost of food climbed faster than Ben’s beans, we all wished we also had such a large garden. As the rest of us spent our dollars at the market, Happy could be seen picking beans in her back yard.

Last month, Happy and Ben invited most of the neighborhood over for an “all-day food fest”. We were told to bring gloves and arrive very early in the morning. We didn’t know what was about to take place.

By 9:00 am, there were nine of us in the garden picking tomatoes, beans, okra, and squash. By 10:00 am, there was lots of laughter. We shared a lot of stories. By five o’clock, everyone was a little drunk from the wine and beer. After dinner, we played games. As we were leaving, Happy and Ben handed each of us a shopping bag filled with the bounty(收成)of the day, already packaged and frozen. What a delightful gift!

Well, the point wasn’t so much about the food. The true gift was a day of friends enjoying one another’s company. None of it would have happened if it had not been for Happy and Ben’s garden. Now they have a blog about gardening in case we decided to plant a garden. And I am so proud of my tomato plants!

A. don’t like spending time with others

B. sometimes quarrel with each other

C. live on the food they grow in their garden

D. are a generous and warm-hearted couple

2.According to paragraph 2, people wish they also had a garden so that_______.

A. they didn’t have to spend so much money on food

B. they could grow vegetables and sell at the market

C. they could invite their neighbors and hold parties in it

D. they could spend happy times together with their family in it

3.For what purpose did Happy and Ben invite the neighbors to their garden?

A. To ask them to attend a birthday party

B. To help them get to know each other.

C. To let them enjoy what they grew in the garden.

D. To ask them to share some interesting stories.

4.What did the writer most probably think of the time he spent in the garden?

A. It was too long.    B. It was wonderful.

C. It was not as good as he thought.    D. It was too terrible.
