Five tips for safe running

We all know that exercise is good for our health. But some kinds of exercise may be better than others. Running, for example, may help to protect against heart disease and other health problems.

Running is good exercise, but it can be hard on the body. 1.

Take it easy. Do not run too much, too soon or too fast. Most people get running injuries when they push themselves too bad. The body needs time to get used to increases in distance or speed.2.

Listen to your body. Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly. 3. They may include body aches, sore muscles(肌肉酸痛) and pain that does not go away.

4. There is no single best shoe for every runner. You should find the shoes that offer the best fit and support for your feet. More importantly, you should replace your shoes every 500 to 800 kilometers.

Take good notes. Take time after each run to write down what you did and how you felt. Look for patterns, things that happen over and over again. These notes will help you find the best exercise for you.

Cross train. As we said earlier, running is hard on your body. So physical fitness experts suggest some form of cross training to improve muscle balance and to help you stay injury free. They say swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises to combine with running. 5.

A.Get good running shoes.

B.Usually, there are warning signs.

To help the environment, many Americans have made the change from paper and plastic(塑料的) bags to reusable shopping bags. But a report by a Florida newspaper says that reusable shopping bags sold by some supermarkets have high levels of lead (铅), which can be dangerous to humans, especially young children. Now, there's a call for a rethink about the use of reusable shopping bags.

“When our families go to the store looking for safe and healthy foods, the last thing they should be worrying about is a bag,” Charles Schumer, a government official said.“Quick and complete research will allow everyone to make right decisions.”

The newspaper bought more than a dozen bags sold at Publix supermarkets from Florida supermarkets to test them for lead. The results showed that certain bags had lead levels that worried health officials. Some bags had enough lead in them to be considered dangerous waste if people were to throw the bags out with other rubbish. Lead in the bags may not move onto food. But over time, paint on the bags can break off and the bags can wear out. When this happens, lead can be freed.

The bags with the highest levels of lead had beautiful designs and many pictures. Plain(朴实无华的) reusable bags without them are found to have little lead. People worried about lead levels in reusable bags can turn to cloth. Paper bags are also a good choice, since paper can be reused.

1.What worries people now is that reusable shopping bags ________.

A. can't be reused.    B. can be a danger to people.

C. are a waste of money.    D. are as bad as paper bags.

2.Lead in shopping bags will probably come out when ________.

A. the paint is separated from them    B. they are thrown away

C. food is put in them    D. they are put with other rubbish

3.What's the best title for the text?

A. The return of paper bags

B. Time to invent greener shopping bags

C. The harm of lead

D. Be careful with reusable shopping bags

Animals, including insects, do not have a language like ours. They do not talk to each other in words and sentences. But if we watch them, we can see that they do have ways of communicating with each other.

Can you see the rabbits’ tail? When rabbits see this white tail moving up and down, they run too. The rabbit has reminded them of potential dangers without making a sound. It has given them a signal.

Many other animals use this kind of language. When a cobra(眼镜蛇) is angry, it raises its hood(兜帽) and makes itself look fierce. This warns other animals. When a bee has found some food, it goes back to its home. It cannot tell the other bees where the food is by speaking to them, but it does a little dance in the air. This tells the bees where the food is.

Some animals say things by making sound. A dog barks, for example, when a stranger comes near. A cat purrs(猫的呜呜声) when pleased. Some birds make several different sounds, each with its own meaning. Sometimes we human beings speak in the same way. We make sounds like “Oh” or “Ah!” when we are frightened or pleased or when we drop something on our toes.

But we have something that no animals have-a large number of words which have the meanings of things, actions, feelings or ideas. We are able to give each other all kinds of different information in words and sentences, which no other animals can do. No other animals have so wonderful a language as we have.

2.A rabbit uses its tail to _____.

B. People should pay attention to animals’ body language and sounds

C. Animals have their own ways to communicate with each other

D. Animals are smarter than we think

4.Several different sounds can be made by a _____.

A. rabbit    B. bee

C. bird    D. cat

At times my mom has been uncomfortable seeing these qualities in me. For example, when I was 12, I went to Puerto Rico all by myself to stay with my grandmother for the summer. My mom was extremely nervous about it. She kept telling me how things were different in Puerto Rico, to always put on sunscreen, not to wander away from my grandmother, and other warnings. She helped me pack and did not leave the airport until she saw my plane take off.

But despite her worries, she let me go on my own. As I moved into my teens, she continued to give me space to grow and learn, even when it might have been difficult for her. When I reached my senior year, I decided to move away for college. Once again I found that I differed from my peers. While many of them wanted to stay close to home, I couldn't wait to be out in the world on my own. While my mom may not have been happy at the thought of my going away, she was supportive and excited for me.

One big thing I realized during my senior year, as my mom granted me more freedom, was that she actually believes in me and trusts me. That means a lot. Most of my life, and especially when I was little, the main person I tried to impress in my schoolwork or other things was my mother. I knew she expected nothing but the best from me. Sometimes it was hard to live up to her standards: getting a single B on my report card would make me feel bad because I knew she wanted me to have all As.

I know that her high standards have helped me stay focused on what's important, like education, and made me who I am. I am thankful for her support and involvement in my life. Most of all I respect her. She is the strongest woman I know and that's why I have turned out so strong and independent.

1.When the author decided to go to Puerto Rico, his mother________.

A. wanted to go with him    B. didn't allow him to do so

C. worried about his safety    D. asked his grandmother for advice

2.Why did the author decide to move away for college?

A. He wanted to be different from his peers.

B. He planned to keep away from his mother.

C. He intended to make his mother unhappy.

D. He wanted to be independent in the outside world.

3.We can learn from Paragraph 3 that the author's mother________.

A. was too strict with him    B. had a high expectation of him

C. cared little about his learning    D. used to expect nothing from him

4.What does the author mainly want to tell us in the text?

A. his mother's expectations of him

B. his long way to become independent

C. his good relationship with his mother

D. the importance of his mother's trust and support
