joke about 拿…开玩笑,care about介意,在乎,train about关于---的训练,worry about为… 故选A。 2. A. reported报告; B. decided决定; C. complained抱怨; D. questioned询问。 tiny ="very" small。故选C。 4. A. come来; B. fall落下; C. fit适合; D. tie系。 fit in with适合,与…一致。故选C。 5. A. manner方式; B. pattern模式; C. choice选择; D. way方式。 A. read阅读; B. taken拿走; C. opened打开; D. put放置。 open…to把… A. free自有的; B. perfect完美的; C. final最后的; D. extra额外的。 A. art艺术; B. talk谈论; C. quiz小测试; D. talent才能,天才。 A. colored涂色; B. written书写; C. carved雕刻; D. drawn绘画。 for意为“为…”。故选C。 11. A. room房间; B. time时间; C. paper纸; D. interest兴趣。 A. gifts礼物; B. books书; C. photos 照片; D. posters贴画。 A. special特殊的; B. academic学术的; C. national国家的; D. royal皇家的。 故选A。 14. A. painted油漆; B. found发现; C. printed印刷; D. collected收集。 故选A。 15. that well="so" well。故选B。 16. A. If 如果; B. Though尽管; C. Unless除非; D. Since 既然。 since="now" that/because。故选D。 17. A. prize奖品; B. rank等级,军衔; C. rest 休息; D. place地方。 故选A。 18. A. replied回答; B. realized意识到; C. remembered记得; D. regretted后悔。 A. offered提供; B. valued评估,估价; C. owned 拥有; D. controlled控制。 A. clap鼓掌; B. wave挥手; C. raise提高; D. shake摇动。 故选A。

No one likes to fail. Whether it’s at work, at home, or in another area of your life, failure is painful and it can also be costly in terms of time, money, or both.1. If you never suffer a failure, then you’re probably not pushing yourself to your full potential. The following are some tips on how to pick yourself up after you’ve failed.

Remember that other people fail too. 2. They’ll tell you about that great new contract(合同) they signed, not the deal that failed eventually though they worked on it for months. But failure is normal, and lots of people fail time and time again before meeting with success.

Remind yourself of your past successes. Failing doesn’t mean that you’re worthless, or that you’ll never achieve the things you want.3. Maybe you had high marks last term, or you lost weight, or you learned to play a musical instrument. You might want to write down a list of successes---things that you’ve accomplished over the past few years, whether big or small. If you ever lack confidence, you can go back and read over that list.

4. Your past successes are important, but so are your past failures. You’ve made mistakes before, and you’ve survived them. Perhaps you did badly in an exam, or lost your temper and had to apologize. It’s not fun to think about the times when things went wrong, but by acknowledging your failures, you can remind yourself that today is no different. Just as you recovered in the past, you can recover from your recent failure too.

5. Whatever goes wrong, you’re probably facing some sort of decision. Don’t rush into making a hasty decision, but do look for a forward path. That might require some deep thinking.

A. Make a decision.

B. Limit the damage caused.

C. Remind yourself of your past failures.

D. However, failure is a normal part of life.

E. Get some advice and support from others.

F. Most people don’t talk openly about their failures.

G. Think of all the times in the past when you’ve succeeded.

In 1943, when I was 4, my parents moved from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Fairbanks, Alaska, where adventure was never very far away.

We arrived in the summer, just in time to enjoy the midnight sun. All that sunlight was fantastic for Mom’s vegetable garden. Working in the garden at midnight tended to throw her timing off, so she didn’t care much about my bedtime.

Dad was a Railway Express agent and Mom was his clerk. That left me in a mess. I usually managed to find some trouble to get into. Once I had a little fire going in the dirt basement of a hotel. I had tried to light a barrel() of paint but couldn’t really get a good fire going. The smoke got pretty bad, though, and when 1 made my exit, a crowd and the police were there to greet me. The policemen took my matches and drove me home.

Mom and Dad were occupied in the garden and Dad told the police to keep me, and they did! I had a tour of the prison before Mom rescued me. I hadn’t turned 5 yet.

As I entered kindergarten, the serious cold began to set in. Would it surprise you to know that I soon left part of my tongue on a metal handrail at school?

As for Leonhard Seppala, famous as a dog sledder, I think I knew him well because I was taken for a ride with his white dog team one Sunday. At the time I didn’t realize what a superstar he was, but I do remember the ride well. I was wrapped (包裹) heavily and well sheltered from the freezing and blowing weather.

In 1950, we moved back to Coeur d’Alene, but we got one more Alaskan adventure when Leonhard invited us eight years later by paying a visit to Idaho to attend a gathering of former neighbors of Alaska.

Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time—about eight hours after you wake up—your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy. Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.

In many parts of the world, people take naps(小憩) in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease. Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it! If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap—even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

1.Why do you sometimes feel sleepy in the early afternoon?

A. Because you eat too much for lunch.

B. Because it’s hot in summer.

C. Because your body temperature goes down at that time.

D. Because you didn’t have a good sleep last night.

2.What can we learn about “naps” according to the last paragraph?

A. All the people in warmer climates take naps in the middle of the day.

B. Doctors need to take naps while employers don’t.

C. If you take naps every day, you’ll never suffer from heart disease.

D. Taking naps regularly is good to people’s health.

3.If you get up at 6:30 am, what is the best time for you to take a nap?

A. About 12:30 pm.    B. About 1:30 pm.

C. About 2:30 pm    D. About 3:30 pm

4.What would be the best title for the text?

A. All for a Nap    B. Just for a Rest

C. A Special Sleep Pattern    D. Taking Naps in Warmer Climate

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Similarly, if we drink a little more water every day, we may find that we need to go to the doctor a lot less often. A healthy diet is made up of water and a great many different kinds of foods. We know that healthy foods like fruits, vegetables and fish, are important as they provide us with energy and fiber, without giving us too much fat and sugar. But why is water important?

The human body needs water to survive. Water is important as it carries poisons and waste out of our bodies. So, doctors advise us to drink plenty of water, much more than the small amount we need to stay alive.

Some doctors believe that water is important for our health in all kinds of ways. They believe that a great many illnesses and health problems start as a result of dehydration(脱水)—a lack of water in the body. Most people are dehydrated at least some of time, although they probably don’t know it. It is surprising to learn that if we feel thirsty, we are already in the first stage of dehydration. In fact, we are advised to drink water before we feel thirsty.

These doctors think that health problems such as headaches, high blood pressure and asthma(哮喘) could be helped if people drink more water. They also believe that drinking more water can help people who are overweight. Water contains no calories so it will not make us put on weight. If we drink water, we will probably drink less sugary soft drinks such as Coca-cola. Doctors also believe that drinking more water may stop people from overeating. They say that many people think that they are hungry when they are, in fact, thirsty. Doctors suggest, therefore, that we eat less food and drink more water. There are still many health problems that cannot be solved by drinking water, so we should not stop going to seeing the doctor completely. However, if we make a decision to drink water every day, we may find that we need to go to the doctor a lot less often.
