M:Stephen King is a contemporary American author. His books have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide and have been translated into many languages. Many of his stories are set in his hometown of Maine. When he was a young boy, King witnessed one of his friends being struck and killed by a train. Some people have suggested that this is why he frequently writes about death. But when he wrote a biography about becoming a writer, he did not mention this incident. In 1970,he got a degree in English from the University of Maine. He occasionally sold short stories from 1971 to 1973,but it wasn’t until 1974 that he published his first novel Carrie. Surprisingly, he had given up on this story in its early stages and thrown it away. Luckily, his wife found it in the rubbish can and told him to keep working on it. He made enough money from publishing that book to be able to write full time. Since then, he has become one of the most famous writers in the world.
