Christmas was hanging around. Six-year-old David was thinking what presents he could get from Santa. He wanted slippers; he wanted a silk tie; he wanted some toys. And school starting soon, he also hoped to get something about schooling. In order to get Santa to know what he needed, he thought he would write a letter to Santa, which he believed would bring him those presents. He found a sheet and made a list of the items on it, and then bent down to post the letter up the chimney, waiting for the winds to take it up.
David got up very early on the Christmas morning. He searched his room carefully, but to his disappointment, he didn't find the presents he hoped for. Hadn't Santa received the letter? Was he too busy to send him the gifts? Although feeling a little upset, David was convinced that Santa would not forget him and he was bound to receive the items.
Many years had passed and 2019 came. In an old house, a young builder, Lewis Shaw was removing the fireplace with his colleagues when he suddenly found a small piece of paper, which was still in perfect condition even if it had turned yellow. He picked it up and unfolded it. It was a letter written to Santa. The touching hand-written note read:
Dear Father Christmas ,
Please can you send me a drum , box of chalks , slippers , silk tie , pencil box , any little toys you have to spare.
Love
David
It was then signed off with lots of kisses.
This was the very letter written by David and the house was where he had lived during his childhood! The letter struck Shaw so much. How simple Christmas once was! David didn't ask for much, just the things he just needed. Nowadays kids always wanted expensive gifts and took it for granted.

Investing in yourself
Figuring out how to invest your money can be a difficult task. This is something that you will want to learn how to do.
1.Things that will improve your knowledge, skills or health are all great investments. However, before you start, you need to be clear about what you will gain out of doing all of these things.
You may think investing in yourself means investing in your education.2.. There are some other things you can do as well as buying a gym membership or learning a new skill.
So what are some specific things you can do?3.. Reading books can really expand your mind and allow you to learn different skills and gain knowledge. I’m talking about the books where you will actually learn a new skill, not fiction books.
You can also take courses and attend seminars. These programs are taught by people with a high level of knowledge or skill.4.. Only in this way can you avoid being fooled by some sales presentation.
Moreover, investing in yourself is a safe way to keep your money. Although a savings account is seen as the most secure investment, that isn’t 100% safe. Even if you never experience your bank closing down, the return is little when inflation(通货膨胀) is taken into consideration.5.. But over time, they will show up in terms of your happiness level as well as your level of success.
A The benefits will stay with you.
B This is just one way.
C If you aren’t a reader, you should start with that.
D The more you do this, the more valuable you will be.
E The best way to invest your money is to invest it in yourself.
F Of course, you need to do some research before investing.
G When you invest in yourself, you may not see gains right away.
How does keeping things tidy change people psychologically? You gain greater confidence in yourself. Also, you become more optimistic and calmer in the mind than before. There are several reasons for these changes: your self-image improves as you start living in tidy beautiful rooms, and you gain decision-making skills as you continue to choose between which things to throw or give away and which to keep. The way we let go of things in the Kon Mari Method plays an important role as well.
The Kon Mari Method has a step where we give thanks to the things before we throw them away. Not only would you say “thank you for sparking joy in me" to a favorite piece of clothing that you wore till it was threadbare, you would also say to a piece of clothing you never wore once “thank you for teaching me that this color doesn't look good on me". You will appreciate the roles of all the things that have come to you and experience appreciation for all of them. Through this experience, you will rediscover the truth that you have been supported by so many things and you will deepen your gratitude for things you leave behind.
To share a personal example, I have always had little confidence in myself. When I get nervous before a large speaking assignment, I think to myself that I'll be fine because
these clothes are protecting me and these shoes are supporting me, and that calms me down. Once you start feeling constant gratitude for your things and your home through tidying up, you will start feeling relief and calm as if you are always protected by something larger than you.
1.What psychological change may tidiness bring to people?
A.They will become more confident. B.Their confidence will become less.
C.They will become less optimistic. D.Their self-image will be damaged.
2.What does the underlined word “threadbare" mean in the second paragraph?
A.fashionable B.fancy
C.out of date D.worn out
3.What should people show to clothes they have never worn in the Kon Mari Method?
A.Regret. B.Worry.
C.Gratitude. D.Patience.
4.Why does the author mention his own experience in the last paragraph?
A.To show off his wonderful speaking skills.
B.To give an example of the benefit of tidiness.
C.To explain how he has become a confident person.
D.To show his special taste in choosing suitable clothes.
