Dear Ms Smith

I’m writing to ask whether you could do me favor. I’ve just finished an essay naming “Differences between traditional Chinese and Western festivals”so I’m not sure whether it is well written. To be honestlyI’m not that familiar with some traditional Western festivals. That’s because I’m turning to you for help. I’d appreciate it if you could spare some time to look through your essay for possible mistakes and polish them. AlsoI’m looking forward to your valuable advices. My essay has been sending to you along with this email. I hope it won’t cause you very much more trouble.

Thank you by advance.

Yours sincerely

1.me后加a 2.naming→named 3.so→but 4.honestly→honest 5.because →why 6.your→my 7.advices→advice 8. sending→sent 9.去掉very 10.by→in 【解析】 本文是一封求助信,作者写信请求对方帮助他修改论文。 1.考查固定短语。短语do sb. a favor“帮某人一个忙”。故me后加a。 2.考查非谓语动词。句意:我刚刚完成了一篇名为“中国传统节日和西方节日不同之处”的论文。essay和name之间为逻辑上的被动关系,因此用过去分词作后置定语。故naming改为named。 3.考查连词。根据句意“我刚刚完成了一篇题为“中西方传统节日的差异”的文章,但是我不确定这篇文章写得好不好”,应是转折关系,but表示转折关系,so 表示因果关系。故so改为but。 4.考查固定短语。短语to be honest“老实说”,在be动词后接形容词作表语。故honestly改为honest。 5.考查连接词。句意:那就是为什么我向你求助。That is because…意思为“那是因为……”,后接表原因的句子;That is why…意思为“那是为什么……”,后接表结果的句子;根据句意,应是“那就是为什么…..”,故because改为why。 6.考查代词。根据句意,应是“浏览我的论文”;句子的主语是I,相应地用形容词性物主代词my。故your改为my。 7.考查不可数名词。advice是不可数名词,没有复数形式,故advices改为advice。 8.考查被动语态。句子主语My essay和send之间为逻辑上的被动关系,因此用现在完成时的被动语态,send用过去分词形式。故sending改为sent。 9.考查形容词比较级。句意:我希望不会给你带来太多的麻烦。very much常用于修饰动词。根据句意,此处是“much +比较级”修饰名词trouble。故去掉very。 10.考查固定短语。短语“in advance”预先,提前。故by改为in。

Daniel Anderson,a famous psychologist, believes it's important to distinguish television's influences on children from those of the family. We tend to blame TV,he says, for problems it doesn't really cause, overlooking our own roles in shaping children's minds.

One traditional belief about television is that it reduces a child's ability to think and to understand the world. While watching TV,children do not merely absorb words and images (影像).Instead, they learn both explicit and hidden meanings from what they see.Actually, children learn early the psychology of characters in TV shows.Furthermore,as many teachers agree, children understand far more when parents watch TV with them, explaining new words and ideas.Yet,most parents use an educational program as a chance to park their kids in front of the set  and do something in another room.

Another argument against television is that it replaces reading as a form of entertainment. But according to Anderson, the amount of time spent watching television is not related to reading ability.TV doesn't take the place of reading for most children;it takes the place of similar sorts of recreation, such as listening to the radio and playing sports.Things like parents' educational background have a stronger influence on a child's reading.“A child's reading ability is best predicted by how much a parent reads,”Anderson says.

Traditional wisdom also has it that heavy televisionwatching lowers IQ (智商) scores and affects school performance. But here, too,Anderson notes that no studies have proved it.In fact, research suggests that it's the other way around.“If you're smart young, you'll watch less TV when you're older,”Anderson says.Yet,people of lower IQ tend to be lifelong television viewers.

For years researchers have attempted to show that television is dangerous to children. However,by showing that television promotes none of the dangerous effects as conventionally believed,Anderson suggests that television cannot be condemned without considering other influences.

1.By watching TV,children learn ________.

A. images through words

B. more than explicit meanings

C. more about images than words

D. little about people's psychology

2.An educational program is best watched by a child ________.

C. with his parents    D. with his teachers

3.Which of the following is most related to children's reading ability?

A. Radiolistening.

B. Televisionwatching.

C. Parents' reading list.

D. Parents' educational background.

4.What is the main purpose of the passage?

A. To advise on the educational use of TV.

B. To describe TV's harmful effects on children.

C. To explain traditional views on TV influences.

D. To present Anderson's unconventional ideas.

Barcelona’s famous Segrada Familia is finally set to get a building license to work on the still uncompleted church.

This UNESCO World Heritage basilica(长方形基督教堂)which is Barcelona’s most visited tourist attractionbegan building in 1882 based on a design by architect Francisco Lozano. Howeverwhen he stepped downarchitect Antoni Gaudi took over the design in 1883.The building won’t be finished until 2026—one hundred years after the architect was killed by a streetcar in the city. His body was buried in a room under the floor of the Sagrada Familia.

To get its paperwork rubber stampedthe church authorities have agreed to finally pay the government a 36 million fee for a building permit. Gaudi was told to get the paperwork processedbut the architect failed to do so—proceeding with construction. The money from the church’s permit will be used to upgrade transport links and beautify the area.

Gaudi played an active role in directing the construction of the Sagrada Familia until his death in 1926.He would often request that work be modified and adjusted until it was exactly what he had in mind. However, interpretation of the designs by present day architects is particularly challenging because of the nature of the existing designs.

Gaudi and his works have become symbols of Barcelonathe capital city of Catalonianortheast Spain.
