Dear Saipan, How are you doing? I’m sorry to hear that you’re not in a good state of learning. Here are some tips that may bring you back to a better condition. First, spend fifteen minutes doing your favourite activity, which will help you release tension. Second, carry a pen and paper with you when you’re on the go. Write down at least one thing that will make you feel proud of. Whenever you feel down, you can take a look at those notes to make yourself feel better and to gain confidence from it. Third, stop the negative thinking and focus on solving those problems. Instead of being so negative towards our life, why don’t we live happily and spend our time on something constructive? I hope these suggestions will help you. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Kids and Food: Advice for Parents

It is important for parents to know how to help their kids eat healthy. Here are a few easy ways:

Parents control the supply lines. 1. Though kids may keep asking for less nutritious foods, parents should decide which foods are regularly provided in the house. Kids won’t go hungry. They’ll eat what’s available in the fridge at home.

Say goodbye to “clean-plate club”. 2. Lots of parents grew  up under the clean-plate  rule, but that way doesn’t help kids listen to their own bodies when they are full. When kids feel full, they’re likely to overeat.

3. Food preferences(喜好) are developed early in life, so try to offer different kinds of food. Likes and dislikes begin forming even when kids are babies. Parents may need to serve a new food on several different occasions(时机) for a child to accept it.

Food is not love. Find better ways to say “I love you.” When foods are used to reward kids and show love, they may start to turn to food when feeling worried or unhappy. 4.

Kids do as you do. 5. When trying to teach good eating habits, try to set the best example.

Choose nutritious food, eat at the table, and don’t forget breakfast.

A.Start them young.

B.Rewrite the kids’ menu.

C.Be a role model and eat healthy yourself.

D.Offer praise and attention instead of food treats.

E.Let kids stop eating when they feel they’ve had enough.

F.You decide which foods to buy and when to serve them.

G.Let kids choose what to eat and how much of it they want.

While there are still many people who don’t feel comfortable using a credit card to buy over the Internet, e-commerce is absolutely here to stay. If you take a few precautions, buying over the Internet can actually be safer than using your credit card in a restaurant.

Just as you should notice your surroundings and suspicious-looking people when withdrawing (提取) money from an ATM, you should know how to recognize the warning signs of Internet tricks and take steps to avoid being a victim (受害者) when shopping online. Here are some good tips to remember when shopping online:

Before submitting your personal information to a site, try to find out how the information may be used and whether it will be sold to or shared with other businesses. If you don’t like what you read, shop somewhere else.

Don’t provide personal information such as address, telephone number, social security number, or e-mail address unless you know who you are providing the information for, why it’s being requested, and how it will be used.

Use a credit card, not a debit card (借记卡) for shopping on the Internet. Debit cards don’t have the same protection as credit cards.

Carefully review your credit card and bank statement each month for unknown charges and inform your credit card company or bank immediately if you notice any charges you didn’t know about.

Clean your computer with free online software that detects spy-ware and install (安装) a firewall to ensure the sites you shop on don’t install spy-ware (间谍软件) on your computer.

1.While shopping online, you should ______.

A.be sure nobody is standing beside you

B.only shop on the site that you have often visited

C.find out how the personal information will be used

D.never provide personal information

2.According to the passage, if you find your credit card has unexplained charges, you should______.

A.tell your credit card company as soon as possible

B.change your credit card code number immediately

C.check all the websites you have visited

D.use a debit card instead of a credit card

3.What is NOT advised by the writer when shopping online?

A.Using debit cards.

B.Visiting famous websites.

C.Installing a firewall.

D.Being very careful.

4.What’s the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?

A.To suggest a new way of shopping.

B.To tell us the advantages of shopping online.

C.To tell us how to avoid being cheated.

D.To tell us how to shop safely online.

As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remember less? If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.

In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.

In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location (位置) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory (交互记忆)”

According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.

1.The passage begins with two questions to ________.

A.introduce the main topic B.show the author’s attitude

C.describe how to use the Internet D.explain how to store information

2.What can we learn about the first experiment?

A.Sparrow’s team typed the information into a computer.

B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.

C.The first group did not try to remember the formation.

D.The second group did not understand the information.

3.In transactive memory, people ________.

A.keep the information in mind

B.change the quantity of information

C.organize information like a computer

D.remember how to find the information

4.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research?

A.We are using memory differently.

B.We are becoming more intelligent.

C.We have poorer memories than before.

D.We need a better way to access information.

It is a fact that people die every moment of every day. However, the deaths of those who have done great work in the public realm (领域) can be especially shocking and heartbreaking---even to those of us who don't know them personally.

On Jan 26, Kobe Bryant(科比·布莱恩特), one of the most legendary NBA players in history, died in a terrible accident. He was 41 years old when a helicopter he was riding in crashed, killing him and eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant.

Following Bryant's death, people from all walks of life have paid tribute (敬意) to the late basketball superstar --- not just for his achievements on the court (球场), but also for his personality and the inspiration he has given to us.

In the basketball world, Bryant ranks (排名) among the top players of all time. He entered the NBA directly from high school as a basketball prodigy (神童).
