M: I’m worried about our trip to Paris next week.

W: Why?

M: There have been heavy rains that have lifted the Seine river to about 20 feet, its highest level since 1982. It actually reached 26.2 feet in 1910, if you can believe it. It’s normally only 5 feet high. Workers have said that the river won’t go back to its original level for another week or two.

W: Do you think the grounds beneath the Eiffel Tower are flooded?

M: They are. I saw a photo of it.

W: We won’t even be able to walk around and see the city!

M: I think we can still walk around. We just have to bring rain boots so our feet don’t get wet or muddy. Many buildings don’t have power, and I read that staff at the Louvre museum had to move all the artwork to higher floors. It’s still closed to visitors.
