阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

In our modern world, when something wears out, we throw it away and buy a new one. The problem is that countries around the world have growing mountains of rubbish because people are throwing out more rubbish than ever before, which, of course, raises the public’s concern of our living environment.

How do the society become a throwaway one? First of all, it is now easier to replace an object than to spend time and money repairing it. Thanks to modern technology, companies are able to produce products quickly and inexpensively. Products are plentiful and cheap, and it’s more convenient to get them delivered nowadays.

Another course is our love of disposable (一次性的) products. As busy people, we are always looking for ways to save time and make our lives easier. Companies produce thousands of different kinds of disposable products: paper plates, plastic cups and cameras, to name a few. It seems that disposable products have become a common part of our life.

Longing for new products also leads to the problem. We are used to buying new things and are always talked into buying something we don’t need. Advertisements persuade us that newer is better and that we will be happier with the latest products. The result is that we throw away useful belongings to make room for new ones. To decrease the amount of rubbish and to protect the environment, more governments are requiring people to recycle materials. However, this is not enough to solve our problem. Maybe there is another way out. We need to repair our belongings instead of throwing them away, we also need to rethink our attitudes towards spending. Repairing our belongings and changing our spending habits may be the best way to reduce the amount of rubbish and take care of our environment.

Nowadays, people’s throwaway lifestyle produces more rubbish than ever before. The main reasons are as follows: Firstly, to replace an object is easier than to repair it. Secondly, using disposable products becomes more and more common. Besides. People are in favor of new products, thus throwing away old ones. To solve this problem, apart from recycling materials, we should change our spending habits, repairing more rather than buying more. 如第一段的最后一句“The problem is that countries around the world have growing mountains of rubbish because people are throwing out more rubbish than ever before, which, of course, raises the public’s concern of our living environment.” 如第一段的最后一句“The problem is that countries around the world have growing mountains of rubbish because people are throwing out more rubbish than ever before, which, of course, raises the public’s concern of our living environment.”可以转换为“Nowadays, people’s throwaway lifestyle produces more rubbish than ever before.” 3.通读全文,逻辑连贯。要牢记各段落要点之间的逻辑关系和自然衔接,用恰当的关联词,衔接词去连贯全文。如: 1.表文章结构顺序:First of all, Firstly/First, Secondly/Second… And then, Finally, In the end, At last 2.表并列补充关系:What is more, Besides, Moreover, Furthermore, In addition As well as, not only…but (also), including, 3.表转折对比关系:However, On the contrary, but, Although+clause(从句), In spite of+n/doing, On the one hand…,On the other hand… Some…,while others…,as for, so…that… 4.表因果关系:Because, As, So, Thus, Therefore, As a result

Memories of people who have done us wrong return repeatedly to us from time to time. Sometimes we remain angry with a person even though we have forgotten why we are angry in the first place. Learning to forgive is important. Here is why.

As humans, it is one of our weaknesses to lose our minds at times and give in to our anger. However, making that anger stay and feeding it with hate will make it a bad thing to others and to yourself. You have to manage your anger and know how to overcome it. If someone has done wrong to you, forgiving is the first step to get rid of your anger.

You may have once done wrong to others too. Now think if you are worth forgiving. You may find that you are actually a good person. So if someone else does wrong to you, focus on the good times you had together and the good things that he or she has done for you. Is the offence enough to erase the good things he or she has done in the past? When your nerves calm down, think back. There must have been something good there to stop you from hating the person.

If things do not work out and you stay angry with the person or the person refuse to apologize, you still have to make an effort to forgive. Why? That is because an angry person is not a pleasant person to be with. One day you will find yourself talking about the offence over and over to people who do not know the person you are talking about. Anger consumes a person and eventually takes over. It makes you look at things in a bad way and no one can stand being with someone like that.

Lastly, make sure that you have forgiven every offence before going to sleep at night. If someone has hurt you, tell them how you feel. And the most important thing you have to say is “You have hurt me, but I choose to forgive you.” This will give you an inner peace and make your life positive in every way.

1.What is the weakness of humans mentioned in paragraph 2?

A.Letting anger take control of us. B.Never trying to forgive others.

C.Doing wrong to people around us. D.Hurting ourselves and those we love.

2.By saying we may have once done wrong to others too, the author wants to _______________.

A.show we are no better than others B.encourage us to be kind to others

C.show it’s normal to hurt each other D.encourage us to find the good things in others

3.What does the underlined word “erase” mean in paragraph 3?

A.Strengthen B.Enrich C.Remove D.Improve

4.According to the author, how can we benefit from forgiving others?

A.We’ll know better about others. B.We’ll become a talkative person.

C.We’ll be forgiven by those hurt by us. D.We’ll avoid becoming a negative person.

5.The passage mainly talks about_______________.

A.why we should forgive B.how we can forgive

C.why we should forget D.how we can control anger

When you are reading something in English and you see a word or words you do not know what do you do? Do you pause and look up the meanings? Or do you put down the reading and find something different to read?

Neither solution is satisfying. Unless you are reading at a level that is clearly too high for you, avoiding reading may leave you feeling defeated. And pausing to look up every word can slow down your reading. Using context clues works. A context clue is a piece of information that appears near an unknown word or phrase and makes its meaning clearer. Context clues are right there in the text. But sometimes we don’t see them. There are some kinds of context clues that can help you become a better reader.

The first kind is synonyms. As you come across unknown words while reading, look for synonyms. A synonym is a word or phrase that has a similar meaning to the unknown word. Antonyms are words that mean the opposite of a word. One way to identify an antonym is to look for contrast words, such as “but”, “however”, “though”, “although”, “unlike”, “whereas” and “despite”. These words signal that some opposite idea or meaning is coming. Another kind of clue is appositives. An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that comes after another noun, where the second gives the meaning of the first. Examples can also help explain the meaning of a word or idea. In English, the most common ways we introduce examples are with the phrase “for example”, “for instance”, “such as” and “like”.

And now for some closing thoughts. Leaning to use context clues can take time. Don’t pressure yourself to be great at the skill too quickly. Also, it is often not necessary to know the meaning of every word to understand what you are reading. So next time you come across a word you don’t know, ask yourself whether you can understand the sentence without it.

1.When you meet with new words in English reading, what should you do?

A.Use context clues. B.Ask teachers for help.

C.Look them up in the dictionary. D.Stop to read another new book.

2.What may be the result of giving up reading when you come across new words?

A.Becoming a better reader. B.Slowing down your reading.

C.Creating a sense of failure. D.Making the meaning clearer.

3.How many clues are mentioned in paragraph 3?

A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.

4.What is the purpose of this passage?

A.To inspire us to learn English. B.To tell us English is easy to learn.

C.To persuade us to buy an English dictionary. D.To introduce a way of English learning.

5.Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the passage?

A. B. C. D.
