Anne Zhang is a 21-year-old girl from Hangzhou, China. Now she studies in Britain. One day, when she was taking a train from London to Oxford, she heard loud noises on the train.
Before, the train had been very quiet. Some people were resting while others were reading books or listening to music. Suddenly, a group of Chinese people laughed loudly as they played a game of cards.
“ I would usually be very happy to meet people from my own country. But at that moment, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow ( 吞没 ) me.” Zhang said.
As it becomes easier for Chinese people to get visas( 签证) to foreign countries, more and more of them are traveling abroad. However, their bad manners have given them a bad reputation (名声).
A recent U.S. survey of 5,600 people five countries showed that Chinese people are the second worst tourists. The worst are American tourists.
Chinese always talk loudly in places like cafes and museums. They also spit (吐痰 ) and litter whenever they want and jump queues. Some Chinese tourists also like to write or draw pictures on famous buildings. In Singapore, Chinese tourists are fined( 罚款) because they were smoking in Non-smoking areas.
Some people may say that they can do everything that they want because they spend money in the country. In fact, this is not true. Besides enjoying ourselves, we should respect local customs and take care of the environment.

This Thursday, across the U.S. , kids are skipping school (逃学) and going to work with their parents. They’ll be making copies, sending faxes and sweeping floors. This is because April 28 is “Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day” all over the United States. This holiday shows kids what it means to be a grown-up in the working world.
I still remember when this day started, I was very happy. Not only did I have the chance to miss school, but also I got to sit in my dad’s taxi all day long and we would go to a restaurant for lunch.
But after only 20 minutes of driving around the city, I was very bored. I couldn’t read my book in the car as I would get carsick (晕车) and my dad didn’t like to turn on the radio. I got hot and uncomfortable. People wouldn’t get into his taxi because they thought he had already had a passenger, me—so nothing happened. It seemed years before we went out for lunch. I actually started to miss school.
While the point of the day is to give kids a chance to experience real-life jobs and give them an idea of the possibilities (可能性) for their futures. I got something completely different from that day. I learned to appreciate school. Where else do you get to play with your friends, do science experiments, read great books and write stories all in one day?
Just as you’ll have to learn to love your job later in life, learn to love school now. if you don’t, try spending the day at work with your dad.
