Speed reading is a skill with which a person can increase the rate of words read a minute. Generally speaking, a person can read between 200 and 250 words a minute. 1. Here are some ways that can help you read fast.
◆Have a general idea about the topic before reading. If you’re reading a book, it’s a good idea to read the introduction or preface before reading the main text. 2..
◆Increase your eye span. Your eyes can take in several words at a time and this is known as eye span. To increase your eye span, avoid reading word by word, but try reading blocks of words in a sentence. 3.. Even if you ignore them, you’ll still understand the main idea of the sentence you’re reading.
◆Do not reread. The most common mistake made by readers is frequent going back to think about some sentences they’ve read. 4.. In other words, cover each line once you've finished reading it.
◆ 5.. Some people move their lips and speak out while reading, which will lead to a low reading speed. The best way to break this habit is to pay attention while reading and if you catch yourself moving your lips, just place a finger on your mouth.
A.Avoid reading out loud
B.Give your full attention to your reading
C.You can also leave out words such as the, a, it, to, etc
D.We can’t judge what to read and what part to leave out
E.This will give you a guide to what you’re going to read
F.One way to avoid this is to place a piece of paper over the text you read

In this modern age, most of us have forgotten to be patient and get angry very quickly over minor things like a traffic jam, a baby crying and such things. It often seems so easy to get what we want right away that when we have to wait even a little while, it seems like we are waiting for ages. We used to be happy to wait 10 - 15 minutes it took to reheat food in the oven(烤箱),but now we’re impatient when waiting two minutes it takes in the microwave.
With the convenience provided by modern society, is patience still a virtue(美德) in the fast-paced world? To begin with, I'd like to share the meaning of the word “patience”. Generally it means being able to tolerate delay without getting impatient. However, it isn't necessarily a passive activity. It takes an active behavior, knowing when to take action and when not to.
So I would argue that patience is still -and always- a virtue. Sure, I used to be one of those who often stared at the microwave for the full two minutes it took to heat my food. And in the end, the food tasted bad. If I had had the patience to heat the food properly in the oven, I would have enjoyed a delicious meal.
Actually the benefits of patience go beyond just heating up our food. Patience is an exercise in self-control which shows that we can exercise good judgment. Lack of patience can cause us to make wrong decisions that negatively affect our health and happiness, waste our time, put us under a lot of stress and affect our relationships in a very negative way.
Everything in life happens for a reason. Sometimes we face an obstacle(障碍) because we need to grow in ways we didn't realize. It's not always obvious when that was happening, but with patience we will soon see clearly why it occurred and what we were meant to learn from it.
Taking time to think about our actions and being patient are a small price to pay when we determine the best possible solution to any problems.

Many people especially children, do not have good handwashing habits. Children may think that it is a tiresome thing to do. To help solve this problem, two entrepreneurs (企业家) from India created a product to tum handwashing into a fun activity. Amanat Anand and Shubham Issar created a device called the SoaPen. Issar said, “The SoaPen is a soap that kids can draw with. It's a fun way to teach kids how to wash their hands.”
AS the name suggests, the SoaPen is a pen made out of soap. The children draw on their hands with the soap pen and then wash it off. If they do not spend enough time washing it off, the colors remain on their hands.
To get their product on the market, the two women joined a business development program in Washington D. C. called Halcyon Incubator. Mike Malloy is the program manager at Halcyon Incubator. He said turning a great idea into a product that can help others is not easy. “There is kind of an up-and-down- roller coaster ride in the journey of being an entrepreneur. One day things are going great; the next day things are terrible. And if you' re doing that alone, it can be really, really difficult.”
Halcyon connects what it calls “social entrepreneurs” with business professionals. These experts help the entrepreneurs sell their products. Anand said that with this business help, they were able to do more than they would have by themselves.
Anand and Issar said their goal is to donate one SoaPen to children of poor families for every three they sell at full price. The product could have a real influence on public health. The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, UNICEF, reports that 1.5 million children die each year as a result of diarrhea (痢疾). UNICEF says good handwashing could decrease that number by 40 percent.
