Why are there fewer birds and small animals in fields in the UK?

A.Because more trees have been planted. B.Because there are more large wild animals.

C.Because pollution is much worse than before. D.Because people use new methods of farming.

Have you ever heard the phrase “You never get a second chance to make a first impression (印象)?” It may sound like an unusual piece of advice, but it is true --- the first impression someone has of you when meeting you for the first time will probably influence how that person treats you or reacts to you in the future.

What is even more interesting is that the brain takes in all the information to create that first impression in about three seconds. When you meet someone for the first time, by the time you have stated you name or shaken hands, the other person has already formed an opinion about the kind of person you are.

So how do you make a good first impression? All things grown-ups tell you --- such as being polite,  and being well-dressed --- are very important. However, the most important tool for making a good first impression is your face. Smiling, being responsive, and looking like you are happy will almost always leave a positive ( 积极的) impression on people, especially those who do not know you. Most people, generally speaking, are ready to smile back when they are smiled at.

Furthermore, smiling and being in a positive mood helps you to know and get a better understanding of new things. This means that you can possibly be friendlier to people you do not know and be more creative and able to solve problems more quickly. So if you ever need a reason to be happy, think about the wonderful people you might meet --- and impress --- with a cheerful smile.

畅游威尼斯

Well, I'm in Venice, Italy, with my family! Venice is wonderful! The city is hundreds of years old, and it's built on water. People get around on special boats called gondolas, and today I had my first gondola ride!

A gondolier controls the gondola using an oar and his own strength. The gondolier's job is to describe Venice's culture and history as he takes you through the city's canals. Our gondolier was so good at telling stories that I almost forgot I was sharing the ride with my parents.

That might sound exciting, and it was, but of course I was with... my dad. And Dad thought it would be funny to wear a striped shirt to match the gondolier's shirt. Can you say embarrassing?

My parents loved looking at the beautiful bridges, churches, and palaces along the route. I really enjoyed listening to our gondolier talk about his work. He told us that it takes years of study and practice to get the job. Who knew? He also told us that of all the gondoliers in Venice, only one is a woman! I think I need to change that! It's time to start training for my dream job! Maybe my dad will let me borrow his shirt.

Gondola Tours of Venice gave me a great tour of a beautiful city—and an interesting idea for my future career! I recommend the gondola tour to anyone who's interested in learning about unusual places and unusual jobs ... especially if they're stuck on a boat with their parents!

1.Where is Venice built?

A.On land. B.On water. C.On an island. D.On the sea.

2.What is the gondolier's job?

C.To describe Venice's culture and history. D.To describe their own life experiences.

3.What does the underlined word "recommend" mean in Chinese?

A.发现 B.重复 C.建议 D.猜测

4.What can we get from the first sentence of last paragraph?

A.The writer may become a doctor. B.The writer may become a teacher.

C.The writer may become a guider. D.The writer may become a gondolier.

5.What's the best title for the text?

A.A wonderful city—Venice B.An enjoyable tour to Venice

C.A funny gondolier D.An interesting idea for my future career
