Homesickness

Only a person far away from home and knows what happiness is.

It is the welling-up tears in your eye, the lump in your throat, and the waving hands when the train is drawing out of the station and take you away from home. It is the strength which you walk several miles to your home with heavy bags in your hands after a long tired trip and the excitement at the doorstep.

It is the sudden delight of closeness what strikes you when you meet a person from a same town, or even a stranger who has just been there.

It is the fear of sing “Home, Sweet home” in case of a burst of tears. It was the whisper of “Mummy” in dreams.

So warm a word is home, and so a sweet sadness is homesickness.

1.删除and 2.eye改为eyes 3.take改为taking 4.strength后加with 5.tired改为tiring 6.what改为that 7.a改为the 8.of改为to或者sing改为singing 9.was改为is 10.so改为such 【解析】 试题分析:本文属于说明文,介绍了远离家乡的人都会有的一种情绪:思乡之情。 1. 本句中主语是only a person,形容词短语far away from home是定语,所以knows是本句的谓语动词,并列连词and是多元的。 强调句型的基本结构是“It is/was+被强调成分+that/who+其他成分.”本句中强调的是句中的主语the sudden delight of closeness。 9.was改为is 考查时态。 (1) One rainy day while I was walking home with one of my friend,… (2) I gave him some advices on study. I stood there and couldn’t believe that a complete stranger is so thoughtful. There were a football game on TV last Saturday evening. (3). 语态 Dinosaurs were disappeared in the old times. 如:appear, happen, break out, take place等。 (4). The hole became bigger and bigger. The air keeps the balloon up was escaping… 讲【解析】 第二句的主谓语动词是was escaping, keeping the balloon up,是V- ing形式作定语修饰the air,因此应把keeps改为keeping 。 3. (1) …so I grateful accepted the offer. (2) Speaking of all the songs he has written, I think this is probably his better-known one. 三或三者以上比较用最高级;句中of all the songs提供了信息。 (3) John studies much more harder than any of the others. 形容词和副词比较级前可用much, still, even,a lot, rather等来修饰。 4. (1) The Smiths did his best to make me feel at home. 讲【解析】 the Smiths指“史密斯夫妇俩”,因此应该把his改为their。 (2) Tom sits between Mary and I. 讲【解析】 between是介词,介词后跟人称代词的宾格,故把I改为me。 5. Tell them something you’re interested,… 讲【解析】 be interested in sth意为“对…… People like swimming in summer because of water makes them feel cool. (3) 介词用错(一般为固定搭配) Could you share your experiences for us? 讲【解析】 share sth. with sb. (4)介词混用 …a truck came to a stop besides us. (1) Although we have been members for a short period of time ,we have made a great progress. (此处与名词考点结合) (2) I sat in the front of the TV at 7 o’clock, when the game just began. 讲【解析】 区分in front of sth和in the front of sth。in the front of sth指在事物(sth)内部空间的前面,比如说I prefer to travel in the front of the car.(我愿意坐在汽车的前面);而in front of sth是指事物(sth)外部空间的前面,比如说the car stops in front of the house(汽车停在房前)。 (1) This man might need the umbrella himself, and he preferred to give it to… I didn’t review the text very well but I could only answer three out from the twenty questions.

Hollywood is on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Worried about an industry wide writers’ strike, struck by a series of theater-chain bankruptcies(破产), burdened with unreasonable corporate profit, requirements and seemingly incapable of producing consistently creative movies, the American film industry is in a period of soul-searching. There’s little doubt it will survive this crisis. But most insiders agree there is disease at both ends of the business—where film are produced, and where they’re shown---that may take years to overcome.

While annual box-office income increases for nine straight years, largely due to increased ticket prices, the number of actual tickets sold declined for the second year in a row. The construction boom has added nearly 10,000 theaters(more than 200,000 more seats) in the last five years. But due to a static(静止的)audience base, eight major chains have gone into bankruptcy and several others are in terrible financial situations.

In fact, insiders say, Hollywood is now in a business it does not want to be in. “There’s a general problem in that the companies that have the most consistent output of material are least interested in what they’re making,” says former 20th Century Fox CEO, Bill. And, Bill adds, “We’re in a period where movies are getting bigger and more costly and less interesting and fulfilling to an audience.”

Today the studios are under the stress to increase profit margins(营业利润) for their corporate parents, and profit margins are hard to control in a business whose products are seen as impulse buys(即兴购买). Other business can increase profits by cutting costs—buying cheaper material, or making the candy bar smaller. Not Hollywood.

“What we’re cutting is risk,” says the head of one major studio, who asked not to be named, “And risk is what great film has always demanded.” While the studios are avoiding risky concepts, their competitors in the home entertainment business have been expanding the boundaries of the imagination. It was this pressure---in electronic games, the Internet, EVDs----that forced the movie theater chains into a self-destructive craze of expansion.

1.Which of NOT the worry of the American film industry according to the passage?

A. Theater-chain bankruptcy

B. Lack of the advertisement funds

C. The stress to increase corporate profit

D. Being unable to produce creative movies

2.What has directly caused major theater-chains in terrible financial situations?

A. Bigger movies

B. More costly movies

C. Increased ticket prices

D. More theaters but an unchangeable audience base

3.What do we know about the profit of the film industry?

A. It’s not easy to control the profit

B. The studios can shorten the material

C. Cutting the cost can increase the profit

D. The studios can buy cheap material to increase profits

4.What’s the main idea of the passage?

A. Hollywood will survive financial crisis

B. Hollywood is on the edge of destruction

C. It’s hard to increase the profits of the studios

D. The construction boom leads to theater-chain bankruptcies

I was saved from sin(罪过) when I was going on thirteen. But not really saved. It happened like this. There was a big revival(复活) at my Auntie Reed’s church. Then just before the revival ended, they held a special meeting for children, “to bring the young lambs to the fold(羊栏)”. My aunt spoke of it for days ahead. That night I was accompanied to the front row and placed on the mourners’ bench with all the other young sinners, who had not yet been brought to Jesus.

My aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to you inside! And Jesus came into your life! And God was with you from then on! She said you could see and hear and feel Jesus in your soul. I believed her.

So I sat there calmly in the hot, crowded church, waiting for Jesus to come to me. I wanted to see him, but nothing happened to me. Nothing! I wanted something to happen to me, but nothing happened.

Now it was really getting late. So I decided that maybe to save further trouble, I’d better lie and say that Jesus had come, and get up and be saved. So I get up. The whole room broke into a sea of shouting and my aunt threw her arms around me. The minister took me by the hand and led me to the platform.

That night I cried. I cried, in bed alone, and couldn’t stop. My aunt woke up and told my uncle I was crying because the Holy Ghost had come into my life, and because I had seen Jesus. But I was really crying because I couldn’t bear to tell her that I had lied, that I had deceived everyone in the church, that I hadn’t seen Jesus, and that now I didn’t believe there was a Jesus any more, since he didn’t come to help me.

A. To free them from sin

2.What do we know about the writer’s aunt?

A. She was a liar

B. She pretended to believe in God

C. She believed the existence of Jesus

D. She could see God with her own eyes

3.From the story, we know the writer wanted to see Jesus__________.

A. with his heart                 B. with is feeling

C. with his own eyes              D. with his imagination

4.What does the passage mainly tell us?

A. The child was finally saved from sin

B. The child did not think much of being saved from sin

C. Everyone else was delighted at the child’s being saved from sin

D. The child got through a painful process and was finally saved from sin but felt unhappy
