Are you good at eating? Do you want to eat every delicious food in the world? Then do you watch the popular program? “A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)” is a documentary on Chinese delicious food which has been broadcast by CCTV. Food is very important in China. Here are several traditional Chinese foods

Eggs hold a special meaning in many cultures. Chinese believe that eggs mean producing something new. For example after a baby is born parents may hold a " big party" where they pass out eggs to announce(宣布)the birth.

Noodles are a symbol of long life in Chinese culture. They are as much a part of a Chinese birthday celebration as a birthday cake with lit candles in many countries. Since noodles represent long life it is considered very unlucky to cut them off.

Although westerners sometimes may be very sorry to see fish lying on a plate in China a whole fish is a symbol of richness. In fact at a party it is traditional to serve the whole fish last. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish yu sounds like the word for richness or plenty and it is believed that eating fish will help your wishes come true in the future.

Another very popular food during the Dragon Boat Festival is Zongzi. This tasty food is made of rice dumplings with meat peanut or other delicious food in bamboo leaves. The tradition of Zongzi is meant to remind us of a great man Qu Yuan.

The government in China plans to end its one-child policy and let families have two children instead. The change is meant to balance population development stop a falling birth rate( 出生率)  and strengthen(增加) the country’s labor force(劳动力).

China with the largest population in the world started the one –child policy in 1980. But the government allowed only a small number of couples to have two children. For example some families in the countryside could have two children if the first-born child is a girl.

In 2013 the Chinese government gave other couples a chance to have two children if one of them was an only child.

At the end of 2014 China had a population of 1.37 billion people. A total of 800 million of them have jobs. But the labor market population will drop in 35 years. That is to say the country will be in great need of labor by the year 2050. With the two-child policy an increase in births can solve this problem.

The word “shanzhai” originally means “mountain village”,but it means “copy” in Chinese now.

I started to research this topic and found a whole new shanzhai world. There are shanzhai products and online games even shanzhai culture. It is so popular that some people say to each other “have you shanzhaied today”? Like it or not shanzhai has become part of our life in China.

I even met an American IT professional recently who has just had his shanzhai mobile phone. He was so proud of it and would not stop talking about all the functions while showing off the look of his phone. I could hardly see the back cover as he had stuck fake logos(假冒标记)“IPhone” “Nokia” & “LG” on it.

But why has shanzhai become so popular in China? Why do over 50 percent of the people surveyed by CCTV support it? Firstly many may not realize it but for Chinese people the word “shanzhai’’ also reminds us of ‘‘the heroes of Liang shan”. Secondly there would be no shanzhai without the Internet. Shanzhai has caught the interest of millions of Chinese online.

There are also shanzhai celebrities. Many shanzhai singers can be seen performing in some remote places where people cannot see performances by the actual “real” stars. These events are very successful even though people know that they are not getting the “real” thing.

Two men Alan and Henry both seriously ill shared a hospital room. Alan was allowed to sit up in his bed and his bed was next to the room’s only window. Henry had to spend all his time sleeping on his back.

The men talked for hours of their wives/families their homes and their jobs. And (every afternoon when Alan in the bed next to the window could sit up he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm among flowers. Trees and skyline could be seen in the distance. As he described all this Henry on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the scene.

One warm afternoon Alan described a parade (游行) passing by. Although Henry could not hear the band,he could see it in his mind. Unexpectedly an alien thought entered his head Why should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never got to see anything? It doesn’t seem fair. Henry felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sight his envy grew and soon let him down. He began to find himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window—and that thought now controlled his life.

Late one night as He lay staring at the ceiling Alan began to cough. He was choking (窒息)Henry watched in the dark room as the struggling man tried hard to reach the button to call for help. Listening from across the room he never moved never pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes the coughing and choking stopped along with the sound of breathing. Now there was only silence—deathly silence.

As soon as it seemed appropriate Henry asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the change and after making sure he was comfortable she left him alone.

Slowly painfully he struggled to take his first look. Finally he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He looked out but faced a black wall.
