How to Solve Worry Problems The Great Nobel Prize winner in medicine, Dr. Alexis Carrel, once said, “Businessmen who do not know how to fight worry die young.” 1. Then how can we find a quick, surefire (万全的) recipe for handling worry situations? Here are a few basic steps to deal with different kinds of worries. Get the facts Why is it so important to get the facts? Because unless we have the facts, we can’t possibly even attempt to solve our problems intelligently. Without the facts, we will be left in confusion. 2. Half the worry in the world is caused by people trying to make decisions before they have sufficient knowledge on which to base a decision. If a man will devote his time to securing facts in an objective way, his worries usually disappear in the light of knowledge. 3. However, getting all the facts in the world won’t do any good until we figure out what these facts mean and interpret them. It is much easier to achieve this after writing them down. In fact, merely writing the facts on a piece of paper and stating our problem clearly goes a long way toward helping us to reach a sensible decision. Therefore, when we are worried, sit down and write down two questions – and the answers to these questions, “What am I worrying about?” and “What can I do about it?” Arrive at a decision Worry is killing. So we will probably save our life by sitting down and writing out all the various steps we could take and then writing down the probable consequences of each step and calmly coming to a decision. Experience has proved the enormous value of arriving at a fixed decision. 4. Act on that decision 5. Don’t stop to reconsider. Don’t begin to hesitate and retrace (折返) our steps. Don’t lose ourselves in self-doubting which causes other doubts. Don’t look back our shoulders. A. Analyze the facts. B. Write down our worries. C. This is the chief cause of worry. D. There comes a time when we must decide. E. Once we have made a decision, go into action. F. And so do housewives, horse doctors and bricklayers. G. It is the failure to reach a definite decision that drives men mad.
China is showing the world its great resolve in the global climate campaign with concrete and self-motivated efforts as well as serious commitment. At the opening ceremony of the Paris climate summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping restated China's plan made in June to cut its carbon emissions( 排放)per unit of GDP by 60-65 percent from 2005 levels by 2030, and increase non-fossil fuel sources in primary energy consumption to about 20 percent. With a large population, China is facing increasing resource limits, severe environmental pollution and a worsening ecosystem, and its citizens are also becoming increasingly aware of environmental problems. Suffering environmental problems and seeing the efforts as important to transforming its economic growth pattern, the country has much at risk if climate change is left unattended. Actually, climate change efforts are already included in China's medium-and long-term program of economic and social development, and ecological efforts are the clear characteristics in China's 13th Five-Year Plan(2016-2020). Although it is and will be a developing country for a long time to come, China has been actively involved in the global campaign against climate change, now topping the world in terms of energy conservation and use of new and renewable energies. However, China's development rights need to be respected. It is unfair to overstress China's status as one of the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters and regard it as the major part of responsibilities in the global fight against climate change. It is worthy of notice that China's emissions of greenhouse gases per person are far lower than those of developed countries, especially the United States, although rapid economic expansion and its population base have made it one of the biggest producers of the gases. To show its great resolve, Beijing in September also announced the establishment of an independent South-South cooperation fund of 20 billion RMB to help developing countries affected by global warming. While China is eagerly accomplishing its policy commitments, developed countries should stop questioning China's commitment to fighting climate change and pointing fingers, and start shouldering their due responsibilities instead. 1.China is self-motivated to fight against climate change in order to_____ A.top the world B.transform its economic pattern C.solve its population problem D.respond to pressure from developed countries 2.The underlined word "it" in paragraph 7 refers to _____ A.China B.the United States C.economic expansion D.the population base 3.It can be inferred from the text that_______ A.China will completely use non-fossil fuels by 2030 B.China will carry out its plan by stopping its development C.Chinese emit more greenhouse gases than Americans on average D.some developed countries are not taking on their due responsibilities 4.Which of the following is a sign of China's self-motivated fight against climate change? A.Expanding its economy B.Using non-renewable energies. C.Making it part of China's 13th Five-Year Plan. D.Donating money to developing countries
There's a new frontier in 3D printing that's beginning to come into focus: food. Recent development has made possible machines that print, cook, and serve foods on a mass scale. And the industry isn't stopping there. Food production With a 3D printer, a cook can print complicated chocolate sculptures and beautiful pieces for decoration on a wedding cake. Not everybody can do that---it takes years of experience, but a printer makes it easy. A restaurant in Spain uses a Foodini to" re-create forms and pieces" of food that are" exactly the same,” freeing cooks to complete other tasks. In another restaurant, all of the dishes and desserts it serves are 3D-printed, rather than farm to table. Sustainability(可持续性) The global population is expected to grow to 9.6 billion by 2050, and some analysts estimate that food production will need to be raised by 50 percent to maintain current levels. Sustainability is becoming a necessity. 3D food printing could probably contribute to the solution. Some experts believe printers could use hydrocolloids( 水解胶体)from plentiful renewables like algae(藻类) and grass to replace the familiar ingredients(烹饪原 料). 3D printing can reduce fuel use and emissions. Grocery stores of the future might stock "food" that lasts years on end, freeing up shelf space and reducing transportation and storage requirements. Nutrition Future 3D food printers could make processed food healthier. Hod Lipson, a professor at Columbia University, said, "Food printing could allow consumers to print food with customized nutritional content, like vitamins. So instead of eating a piece of yesterday 's bread from the supermarket, you' d eat something baked just for you on demand." Challenges Despite recent advancements in 3D food printing, the industry has many challenges to overcome. Currently, most ingredients must be changed to a paste( 糊状物)before a printer can use them, and the printing process is quite time-consuming, because ingredients interact with each other in very complex ways. On top of that, most of the 3D food printers now are restricted to dry ingredients, because meat and milk products may easily go bad. Some experts are doubtful about food printers, believing they are better suited for fast food restaurants than homes and high-end restaurants. 1.What benefit does 3D printing bring to food production? A.It helps cooks to create new dishes. B.It saves time and effort in cooking. C.It improves the cooking conditions. D.It contributes to restaurant decorations. 2.What can we learn about 3D food printing from Paragraph 3? A.It solves food shortages easily. B.It quickens the transportation of food. C.It needs no space for the storage of food. D.It uses renewable materials as sources of food. 3.What is the main factor that prevents 3D food printing from spreading widely? A.The printing process is complicated. B.3D food printers are too expensive. C.Food materials have to be dried. D.Some experts doubt 3D food printing. 4.What could be the best title of the passage? A.3D Food Printing: Delicious New Technology B.A New Way to Improve 3D Food Printing C.The Challenges for 3D Food Production D.3D Food Printing: From Farm to Table
According to a new US study, couples who expect their children to look after them in old age should hope they have daughters because daughters are twice as attentive as sons overall. The research by Angelina Grigoryeva, from Princeton University, found that, while women provide as much care for their elderly parents as they can manage, men do as little as they can get away with and often leave it to female family members. Her analysis of the family networks of 26,000 old Americans concluded that gender(性别) is one of the most important things that decide whether or not people will actively care for their elderly parents. In a paper presented at the annual conference of the American Sociological Association in San Francisco, she concludes that simply having a sister makes men likely provide less care. Using data from the University of Michigan Health and Retirement Study, a study which has been tracking a cross-section of over 50s for the last decade, she calculated that women provide an average of 12.3 hours a month of care for elderly parents while men offer only 5.6 hours. "Sons reduce their relative caregiving efforts when they have a sister, while daughters increase theirs when they have a brother." "This suggests that sons pass on parent caregiving responsibilities to their sisters." In the UK, the 2011 Census showed that there are now around 6.5 million people with caring responsibilities, a figure which has risen by a tenth in a decade. But many are doing so at the risk of their health. The census showed that those who provide 50 hours or more of care a week while trying to hold down a fulltime job are three times more likely to be struggling with ill health than their working counterparts who are not carers. 1.According to the passage, what’s the most important factor to predict if people will actively care for the elderly? A.Education. B.Gender. C.Career. D.Income. 2.The US study finds that_____. A.having a sister makes men less likely to look after their parents B.sons are twice as likely as daughters to care for parents in old age C.sons are unwilling to leave caregiving responsibilities to their sisters D.sons and daughters seem to give equal care to their parents 3.What does the author stress in the last paragraph? A.People should give up their job to care for the elderly. B.Many care providers work longer hours than others. C.Many care providers have potential health problems. D.People shouldn’t pass on caring responsibilities to others. 4.The author develops the text by _______. A.explaining social networks of careers B.describing people' s experiences C.analyzing various researches and data D.comparing different gender

Youth is a stressful time from friends to school to families, stressful situations become common. The body can respond (反应) with faster breathing, a fast bating heart, tense (绷紧的) muscles and drop of sweat. And teens who breathe polluted air appear to respond most strongly to stress, a new study shows. Jonas Miller, a psychologist working at Stanford University ,studied whether or how air pollution might affect the body’s response to stress. Miller’s team invited 144 teens to participate in a stressful test. Most of the kids lived in or near San Francisco, which has the worst air quality. Before the test, the researchers used sensors(感测器) to record heart rates and sweat levels for five minutes as the kids rested. Then as the test began, a researcher read aloud the beginning of a story and the kids had five minutes to make up an exciting ending to the story. They would have to memorize their ending and present it aloud to a judge. After fishing this task. the kids were asked to do math problems, which obviously was a harder task. If he or she made a mistake, the judge let the student start over. The whole time, sensors recorded heart rates and sweat levels. Miller found all the students had similar heart rates and sweat levels at rest. But as the test got difficult, differences began to appear Kids from places with more air pollution responded more strongly to stress and their heartbeats became irregular. They sweated more than teens who lived in cleaner places. "The teens' bodies were preparing to deal with possible challenges in the environment and such bodily responses to stress were linked to negative feelings", Miller concludes. Over time, he says, "these responses can contribute to both physical and mental health problems." This study has proved the negative heath effects of air pollution among teenagers. Therefore, teenagers should try to avoid their exposure (暴露) to air pollution They should consider limiting their time outside during rush hour, especially on days when air pollution is particularly strong. 1.What happened to teens in stressful situations? A.Their bodies react strongly. B.Their muscles cause pain. C.They become seriously sick. D.They have trouble in breathing. 2.What can we learn about the test? A.The judge of the test was strict with the kids. B.The kids enjoyed making up endings of stories. C.The kids gradually felt more stress in the process. D.The researchers wanted the kids to keep peaceful. 3.What does the test find about the kids? A.They are having more rest now. B.They responds differently to stress. C.Those from cleaner places have stronger bodies. D.Those polluted doesn’t have more stress in life. 4.From the study we can infer that tens should . A.solve their mental heath problems B.learn to deal with stressful situations C.spend less time outside in heavy traffic D.enjoy more outside activities in good weather 5.Where is the passage probably from?
