Many students have already chosen whether or not to apply for Early Decision (ED). The official deadline for most colleges and universities with an ED application is Nov 1st at 11:59 p.m. Early Decision has risks. 1.However, ED comes with some nice perks (好处).The two biggest advantages are: 1.Early notification (通知). Students apply early and are notified early - usually by December 15. 2.A boost (提高)in acceptance. With just a little bit of research, you can find out the acceptance rate for students who apply normally and those who apply through ED. You might be surprised.2. What questions do you need to ask before you make the ED choice? First, consider academic fit. Are you satisfied with the amount of research you've done to make a four-year commitment (承诺)to this school? Have you spent enough time on die college's website to understand the academic offerings?3.Do you think you'd struggle to keep up with the other students in class? 4.Are you sure you'll like the climate? Is it the right size (not too big, not too small)? Is the emphasis on sports, arts, culture, etc. right for you? Do you like the surrounding area? Is it enough to keep you entertained, or is it too overwhelming (难应付的)? 5.If you apply for Early Decision and are accepted, will you be able to attend if you are not offered any financial aid? If the answer is "no" then you probably should reconsider applying through ED, because you will need to withdraw (撤回)your other applications if you are accepted.
A.Look at the social fit, too. B.Also look at your finances. C.Turn to your teachers for advice, too. D.Do you think you're competitive academically? E.Are you sure you can adapt to the new surroundings? F.ED acceptance rates at some schools can be twice as high as the regular acceptance rates. G.It means the student has agreed that if he or she is accepted to a school, he or she must attend it.

November 11th, also known as the "bare sticks holiday", and a day originally meant for young people to celebrate being single, has become the world's largest 24-hour online shopping carnival. Forum (论坛) readers share their opinions. Blonde Amber (Ireland) There is nothing to be proud of to be in a country that spends so much online on a particular day. It does nothing more than show the superficiality (肤浅)of the temporary pleasure of shopping, and produces nothing more than a mountain of environmental waste. I bet there is plenty of "buyers' remorse" after this day. Vivian (US) Since it is Singles' Day, I guess only the single population of China should buy something to relieve social pressure. The married might be excluded (排除)from the festival. Alex (US) Singles' Day was initiated (创始)by a group of college students to celebrate being single, or not having a girlfriend or boyfriend. They think poor guys should buy something on the day to entertain themselves. But Jack Ma got hold of the opportunity, hit the jackpot and successfully made it a yearly shopping spree (狂欢). George (Canada) I work in Shanghai. Many of my young female colleagues are still single. They simply haven't time to date, as they tend to work long hours and travel two hours by subway to get to and from work. Singles' Day is a day when they spoil themselves with online shopping. Patrick (Australia) I don't care if it is Singles' Day or a shopping spree. It sounds fair enough to me. Just a click and I can get the best deals I have ever seen delivered to my door, and save money and time. 1.What does the underlined word "remorse" in Paragraph 2 mean? ______ A. Surprise. B. Joy. C. I was used to carrying a penknife in my pocket, and over the years I moved up in size from a small single knife to a Swiss Army knife and then eventually to a Leatherman multi-tool (多刃刀具). This wasn't a problem for many years. However, after the 9/11, the world changed. I was traveling from JFK to LAX, so I took the knife out of my pocket and put it in my bag. But when I got to the airport, I had completely forgotten about it, so I just quickly went through safety check. This was not long after 9/11, so safety check was extremely strict. But somehow, the X-ray screener missed the knife in the bag, and I walked on through. I was sitting in the gate area waiting for boarding, when I noticed a second security screening process right next to the gate, with another X-ray machine and what looked like anti-terrorist soldiers. I suddenly remembered that I had this knife in my bag! I really didn't know what I should do. If I did nothing and they caught the knife during the second security screening, I'd be dead; if I told them I accidentally got the knife through the first screening, they would certainly re-screen every passenger on the plane; if I dropped it in a garbage can, it would be found by a cleaner in a secure area (警戒区),and probably result in something scary! I was anxious and like a cat on hot bricks. Suddenly, I noticed a skycap, someone whose job is to carry passengers' bags at an airport. I had an idea. I then began to ask every skycap I saw, "Hey, how would you like a ﹩60 multi-tool as a present?" Finally, a guy looking happy but confused took it off my hands. I then went through the second safety check with no knife. 1.The author carried a knife in his pocket ______ . A. out of habit B. B. as a present C. out of self-protection D. as a souvenir (纪念品) 2.In the end, how did the author deal with the knife? ______ A. He put it in the bag. B. He gave it to others. C. He threw it away secretly. D. He handed it to a policeman. 3.The passage is mainly about ______ . A. the history of penknives B. the strict safety check in JFK C. a meaningful gift from the airport D. an embarrassing experience in the airport
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。 There were two men who occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain (排除)the liquids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours every day. They spoke about their wives and families and their jobs. And every afternoon when the man by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened by all the activity and color of the outside world. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man had said Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm, and a fine view of the city could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in detail, the man on the other side of the room closed his eyes and imagined the beautiful scene. One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window described it. Unexpectedly, a strange thought entered his head: Why could he look out of the window? Why should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get to see anything? It didn’t seem fair. As the thought developed, the man felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy turned into hate and soon turned him sour. He began to find himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window and that thought now controlled his life. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 paragraph 1: Late one night, as he lay staring at the ceiling, another man began to cough. __________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ paragraph 2: As soon as it seemed reasonable, the man asked the nurse if he could move next to the window. ___________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mistakes are part of learning, so view mistakes as learning opportunities. Accept that you make mistakes because everyone does. 4. If you realize that you’re unhappy with something about yourself that you can change, start today. The results from the world’s largest sleep study have shown that people who sleep on average between 7 to 8 hours per night perform better cognitively (认知地) than those who sleep less or more than this amount. The world’s largest sleep study was launched in June 2018 and within days more than 40,000 people from the world participated in the online scientific investigation, which included an in-depth questionnaire and a series of cognitive performance activities. “We really wanted to capture the sleeping habits of people around the entire globe. Obviously, there have been many smaller sleep studies of people in laboratories but we wanted to find out what sleep is like in the real world,” says Adrian Owen, western’s researcher in Cognitive Neuroscience and Imaging. “People who logged in gave us a lot of information about themselves. We had a fairly extensive questionnaire and they told us things like which medications they were on, where they were in the world and what kind of education they’d received because these are all factors that might have contributed to some of the results.” More than half of all participants reported typically sleeping less than 6.3 hours per night, about an hour less than the study’s recommended amount. One shocking truth was that most participants who slept four hours or less performed as if they were almost nine years older. Another surprising discovery was that sleep affected all adults equally. The amount of sleep associated with highly functional cognitive behavior was the same for everyone, regardless of age. Also, the harm associated with too little, or too much sleep did not depend on the age of the participants. “We found that the best amount of sleep to keep your brain performing its best is 7 to 8 hours every night. We also found that people that slept more than that amount were equally harmed as those who slept too little,” says Conor Wild, Owen Lab Research Associate and the study’s lead author. 1.Where did the study take place? A. In a lab. B. In the street. C. On TV. D. On the Internet. 2.What may affect the result of the study according to Owen? A. Career. B. Diet. C. Education. D. Exercise. 3.What’s Wild’s view? A. Sleeping too much is as bad as sleeping too little. B. People must sleep for eight hours every night. C. Sleeping too little can make people look older. D. People needn’t pay attention to the amount of sleep. 4.What can we learn from the text? A. Owen and Wild are the first to study sleep. B. Lack of enough sleep is a common problem. C. All the people in the world show interest in the study. D. There is no effective way to solve the sleep problem.
About 150 million years ago, in Montana, a young dinosaur roamed through a land. Not yet five years old, the long-necked creature somehow ended up buried in a violent and muddy flood, forever freezing it in adolescence. Now, researchers have found this potentially record-setting dinosaur. After uncovering the remains, the scientists argue that the skull (烦骨) is the smallest yet found from a group of long-necked dinosaurs called Diplodocus (梁龙). The little fellow even has a nickname : Andrew, after Andrew Carnegie, who funded the research, and there is a Diplodocus species named after him. With its skull just 10 inches across , researchers’ best guess is that Andrew was a juvenile Diplodocus—an especially rare find. While more than a hundred Diplodocus samples have been discovered, their skulls are much rarer. Fewer than a dozen have been dug up to date. If the researchers’ reconstruction is correct, Andrew’s skull could be the smallest and least mature Diplodocus skull ever found, potentially providing insights into the dinosaur’s development. Kristi Curry Rogers, a paleontologist at Macalester College in Minnesota doesn’t fully agree with the findings because of the poor preservation of the fossil (化石). Andrew’s skull is missing parts of the cheek, palate and lower jaw, plus the fossils are slightly pressed. These problems make it hard to reconstruct the skull, let alone infer the dinosaur’s behavior from it. “The researchers don’t address the damage of the skull or the missing components of the face in any great detail, which could easily change the explanations,” she said in an email. For now, Diplodocus is the best guess for Andrew’s identity, but it could also be an unknown species. To help settle the debate, Andrew’s skull is currently being 3-D scanned for future research. 1.What did the researchers discover? A. The youngest Diplodocus. B. The biggest dinosaur skull. C. A rare dinosaur fossil. D. A species of Diplodocuses. 2.The underlined word “juvenile” in paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to “_________”. A. young B. strong C. ancient D. dead 3.Why does Rogers disagree with the researchers’ guess? A. The researchers have lost some parts of the fossil. B. The guess of the fossil lacks enough evidence. C. She couldn’t understand the researchers’ explanations. D. She has his own opinions about the dinosaur’s development.
Michelle Kwan is a champion ice skater who has won five World Championships, nine U. S. Championships and two Olympic medals, in addition to countless other skating competitions. While audiences have seen her glide effortlessly across the ice, long hours of practice and devotion contribute each jump and spin. Kwan began ice skating when she was five years old, and her skill quickly became evident. At the age of eight, she skated several hours a day, every day of the week. Before school, after school and on weekends, she was at the ice rink. The cost of ice time and coaches quickly grew, but her parents were committed to her success. Her family sold their home and purchased a much smaller one to free up money to pay for her ice skating. When Kwan was 13, she performed at her first U. S. National Championships. After a disappointing performance, she swore to work even harder and improve. She did. The next year, she finished second. From there she went on to win a silver medal at the 1998 Olympics and the first of her World Championships. She followed up with a bronze medal at the 2002 Olympic Games. Kwan is the most decorated figure skater in American history. She was the sole member to the U. S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame classes of 2012, and in 2014, she was appointed to the Hall of Fame at the U. S. National Competition. Even after retiring from skating. Kwan has not given up her devotion to learning, service and hard work. She received her college degree in 2009 from the University of Denver and is pursuing graduate studies in international relations at Tufts University. Meanwhile, she has held several diplomatic and ambassador positions representing the United States globally. Drowning is the second-most common cause of accidental death in children aging 1 to 14 (just behind motor vehicle accidents.) In a study by a national safety group, 90 percent of children who drowned did so while under the care of an adult or teenager. 1.. They are gasping(急促吸气) 2.. And for young children, who are in a horizontal face-down position, they are unable to keep the mouth above the water’s surface at all. 3. They have to be able to breathe before they can speak. When people are drowning, their mouths sink below and reappears above the surface of the water. There isn't time for them to exhale, inhale, and call out. They don’t seem in trouble Sometimes the most important indicator that people are drowning is that they don’t look like they are drowning. They may just seem to be looking up at the sky, shore, pool deck, or dock. Ask them, “Are you all right?” If they cannot answer at all, they probably are drowning. 4.. They are trying and failing, to swim in a particular direction A drowning victim can’t make any forward progress while in the water, according to the American Red Cross. “A young child may appear to be doing a ‘doggy paddle’ but has no forward progress,” according to the official lifeguarding guide. 5.. A.They can’t call for help B.They can’t wave for help C.All efforts are devoted strictly to getting air D.Here are the steps for you to follow when someone is drowning E.They could also take in water when drowning victims are gasping for air F.You may have less than 30 seconds to get to them if they return a blank stare G.Watch for these signs that someone is in trouble to avoid a tragedy in the making
On April 14th,2010,my entire life changed in an instant. One moment I was joyfully riding through the sunshine. The next moment, metal, flesh and bone were spreading against the pavement in a thunderous crash.Another cyclist, biking carelessly, had cut me off and sent me supermanning toward oncoming traffic. As if to symbolize the accident that had hit my life, another disaster also occurred on April 14th,2010.It cost the airline industry$l.7 billion.Ten million travelers were stuck for days.Economies all over the world were disturbed. This was the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull, one of Iceland's many volcanoes. However, volcanoes are not all bad.In fact, they are necessary. They are responsible for the birth of new earth, and for the creation of rich soil. This eruption gave off 0.15 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere daily. But cancelling 48% of the world’s flight travel saved about 2.8 million tons of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere, temporarily decreasing our carbon footprint. Similarly, the accident had badly affected my emotion but it also allowed me to look more closely inside myself and discover things about myself I never would have realized.I learned how not to judge myself for my new limitations. In 1973,another Icelandic volcano,Eldfell, broke out.Icelanders decided to bomb it with cold water until it froze and chose a different path. After their plan worked, they used the geothermal (地热) energy for the next 15years to heat their homes.A good example of life bringing lemons, and making lemonade! One must move on from misfortunes, focusing only on the present moment and being hopeful for the future. I ran from April 14th,2010,to every kind of escape.Eventually I ended up in university for a new-found love in Earth sciences. 1.What happened to the writer on April 14th,2010? A. It symbolized the accident that changed his life. C. It told us to make the most of given situation. D. It encouraged him to know more about himself. 4.What is the best title for the passage? A. Escape from Volcanoes. B. Inspiration from Disasters. C. Love for Earth Science. D. Attitude towards Nature.
Famous Irish poet Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) once wrote: “Ah! Realize your youth while you have it.” He pointed out the important truth about how precious youth is in one’s journey through life. However, the popular Internet slang word foxi - or Buddhist - is challenging this norm by encouraging young people to remain calm and peaceful and avoid conflict as much as possible — in other words, to live like a Buddha. The phrase was reportedly created in Japan in 2014 to describe young men who no longer bother to start relationships with women or follow someone else’s life path. They prefer to stay in their own peaceful world without being disturbed and care little about passion and success. Now, Chinese Internet users are pairing the phrase with other words to describe a similar mindset. For example, “Buddhist students” are those who study just the right amount - they don’t cut class, but they don’t burn the midnight oil, either. There are also “Buddhist parents”, who interfere (干涉) little with their children’s lives and let them develop however they like - the opposite of “helicopter parents”. In this fast-changing and competitive world, it’s only natural that people are seeking a spiritual anchor. However, some would compare foxi with “demotivational culture” - a phrase that describes young people who feel aimless and powerless. They say that foxi actually reflects the reality that young people are losing their will to fight. They are pretending to keep a healthy and wise attitude toward failure simply because they’re incapable of succeeding. But no matter what, there is one thing that “Buddhist youngsters” should keep in mind: You may want to keep a calm mindset regarding failure, but you should also be passionate about school, work and life. After all, Wilde also wrote: “Live the wonderful life that is in you! Let nothing be lost upon you. Be always searching for new sensations. Be afraid of nothing.” 1.Which would be considered as “Buddhist” by Chinese Internet users? A. A man refusing to date with girls. B. A person refusing others’ advice. C. A parent caring too much about his child. D. A student never working extra hours. 2.What does the underlined word “demotivational” in paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Full of energy. B. Lacking motivation. C. Physically healthy. D. Absent-minded 3.What’s the writer’s suggestion to “Buddhist youngsters”? A. Being positive. B. Being cooperative. C. Being considerate. D. Being content 4.What is the best title of the passage? A. Peaceful, or aimless? B. Foxi is popular nowadays. C. What should Buddhist youngsters do? D. Foxi helps live a wonderful life.
In 1869, the Smiley family purchased an area of land about 100 miles north of New York City. Over time, some of their property and much of the surrounding landscape became the Mohonk Preserve, which has since grown to 8, 000 acres and attracts visitors and rock climbers. But the Mohonk Preserve also has a long scientific legacy. In the 1930s, Dan Smiley, a descendent of the original owners, began keeping track of the plants and animals that lived in the area. Megan Napoli is a research ecologist with the Mohonk Preserve in New York. She thinks Smiley’s efforts produced a rare long-term data set of observations, which is useful for studying the impacts of climate change. For instance, other research has shown that songbirds are migrating north earlier and earlier in the spring. It’s important for the birds to arrive at the proper time in the spring, because they need to time their arrival with the insect emergence. So they need to be here to establish their nesting sites, lay their eggs. Once the eggs hatch, they have their baby birds, so they need to time it when the insects are most abundant. Napoli has begun analyzing about 76,000 observations of songbird migration dates collected by Smiley and his team to see if they, too, show that climate change has altered the timing of migrations. Her results suggest that they do. Napoli found that short-distance migrants that spend their winters in the southern U. S. now arrive an average of eleven days earlier than they did in the 1930s. Long-distance migrants that overwinter in the tropics arrive roughly a week earlier. Napoli presented her results at a recent Ecological Society of America meeting in Portland, Oregon. Meanwhile, who knows how many other long-term, personal data collections like Smiley s are out there, waiting to be discovered and to help improve official attempts to track the planet’s changes. 1.What do we know about Dan Smiley? A. He lived in New York City. B. He was a scientific researcher. C. He owned the Mohonk Preserve. D. He kept a record of wildlife. 2.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. The birds’ birth. B. The birds’ arrival. C. The nest building. D. The insect appearance. 3.What does Megan Napoli think of Smiley’s long-term record? A. It has affected the birds’ migration. B. It challenges the previous research. C. It has changed official attitudes. D. It is of great value to her research. 4.What can we learn from Napoli’s research? A. It is totally based on Smiley’s long-term notes. B. Scientists have to rely on more personal data. C. Climate change affects birds’ migration time. D. It contributes greatly to other personal research.

Unless you’re very young or very old,it's likely you have some kind of relationship with email, whether you get hundreds of messages a day or a few dozen a week. A new study suggests that how we deal with these incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health. A team from the Future Work Centre in the UK surveyed 2,000 people across various industries, sectors, and job roles, asking participants how they managed their email and how much associated stress they felt as a result. Overall, those who spent the most time organising and staying on top of messages felt the most email-related pressure too. “While email can be a valuable communication tool, it’s clear that it’s a source of stress of frustration for many of us. The people who reported it being most useful to them also reported the highest levels of email pressure!” said one of the team, Richard MacKinnon. Two of the habits linked to more email-related stress were checking for messages first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Half of those surveyed had push notifications (消 息推送)set up for new email, while 62 percent of respondents left their email app open all day and all night. Both were linked to higher levels of email pressure. The survey also found that managers suffered more than non-managers. Stress is not just a problem when it comes to our mood—it’s been linked to a lot of disorders such as heart disease, weight gain, memory impairment (减弱),digestive problems, and depression. The researchers suggest that the relationship between email-related stress and the negative impact on home life is not the same for everyone. 1.What’s the purpose of the study? A. To find out how many people have an email account. B. To know what sort of people use email most. C. To find out how email management is related to stress. D. To show what changes email has brought about to people. 2.What does Richard Mackinnon think of email? A. It brings more strengths. B. It is not an essential tool. C. It is a double-edged sword. D. It makes people puzzled. 3.Which of the following habits causes the most stress? A. Checking email in the morning. B. Checking email in the evening. C. Keeping email app open at work. D. Setting up push notifications for new email. 4.Where does the text most probably come from? A. Science fiction. B. A science report. C. fashion magazine. D. A book guide.
You know how much your telephone has changed over the past 10 years? Your car will change even more than that in the next 10 years. One of the big changes is that cars will drive themselves. Some day you may not need to drive a car. You will just tell the car where you want to go and it will drive itself. “We definitely have the technology for it now,” says Andrew Poliak of automotive technology supplier QNX. “We expect self-driving cars to be a mainstream thing between 2020 and 2025. ” The American company Google has been working on a self-driving automobile for years. These cars are already on the roads in the United States, mainly in California. Google cars are truly self-driving. These cars have no steering wheels (方向盘)or pedals. Last week, police ordered one of Google’s cars to stop for driving too slowly on a public road. The car was not disobeying any law, so no one was punished. But police did speak with the operators of the vehicle. According to Google, its self-driving cars have been driven nearly 2 million kilometers. That is equal to the distance the average person drives in 90 years. So far, no Google self-driving car has gotten a traffic ticket. Some of them have been in accidents when other cars hit them. Other companies are working on self-driving cars. Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo and Toyota all have plans for such vehicles. A company called BestMile plans to operate selfdriving buses in Switzerland next spring. The buses will hold up to nine people and will be tested for two years. Mercedes-Benz is developing large self-driving trucks for long trips. These trucks use drivers to control them. 1.What Andrew Poliak said suggests that . A. he takes pride in their technology on self-driving cars B. he is eager to sell their technology on self-driving cars C. he is optimistic about the development of self-driving cars D. he feels sure people will soon have the technology for self-driving cars 2.Why did the police order one of Google’s cars to stop last week? A. Because its speed was too low. B. Because it disobeyed local laws. C. Because the operators behaved badly. D. Because there existed technological problems. 3.What caused some of Google’s self-driving cars to have accidents? A. Lack of experience. B. High speed. C. Other cars’ faults. D. Too much traffic. 4.What can be the best title for the text? A. Self-driving Cars B. How to Develop Self-driving Cars C. The Advantages of Self-driving Cars D. Owning A Self-driving Car Is Fashionable
A group of Canadian kids are already spreading a bit of Christmas spirit in Halifax,Nova Scotia, by wrapping warm clothing around lamp poles for the city’s homeless to pick up and use. The sight of warmly dressed poles caught recently the attention of locals, who stopped to click pictures to share on social media. Every year, Tara Atkins collects warm clothing from her community, in order to give to the less fortunate. This year, she took to Facebook to call for donations and the response was strong—their front porch (门厅)was filled with bags of clothes. Since the family was traveling to Halifax on November 15 with their daughter Jayda and seven of her friends to celebrate her 8th birthday, Tara decided it was the perfect time to teach the children a valuable life lesson. The kids spent time handing out coats to any homeless they met on the streets and tied the rest around lamp posts for o thers to pick up. According to Tara, the experience helped the children better understand the difficult situation of homeless people having to confront the severe winter on the s treets. There is no way to be sure that the coats left hanging on street posts were actually picked up by the homeless, but Tara says she isn’t too worried about that. By next morning, all the jackets and scarves on the posts were gone. Photographs of the inspiring project have been shared about 8,000 times on Facebook, and got over 10,000 likes. Tara, who did something similar in Toronto in December last year, says she’s already planning next year’s coat drive. She’s hoping to spread the word well ahead of time, so more people can contribute. And she also wants to add $ 5 fast food gift cards so the recipients (接受者)can also enjoy a hot meal. “We’ve had help from others when we were in need, and we knew how great it made us feel,” said Zachary Atkins, Tara’s husband. 1.How did locals respond at the sight of the warmly dressed poles? A. They got confused. B. They were annoyed. C. They took photos and spread the news. D. They unwrapped and put on the clothes. 2.Why did Tara Atkins go to Halifax on November 15? A. To go sightseeing. B. To celebrate Jayda’s birthday. C. To collect warm clothing for the homeless. D. To spend the holiday with family. 3.What does the underlined word “confront” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Face. B. Discuss. C. Enjoy. D. Describe. 4.What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Tara is sure that the coats will be picked up by the homeless. B. People responded warmly to the photographs on Facebook. C. Tara is appealing to the government to donate. D. Zachary Atkins is against what Tara has done.
