How to Keep a Relationship Healthy and Strong

Are you new to experiencing relationships? Well, let me give you advice on having a healthy and possibly long-term relationship.

Be an honest person with them. 1. Don’t be afraid to say things that isn’t very flattering about yourself. Getting them to trust you is the most important element in any relationship. If there’s no trust, there’s nothing there. So please be honest and they’ll learn to open up to you.

Make sure you give them respect. Now respect isn’t just simply treating her or him nicely. There’s a lot more to it. You have to learn to adjust to their liking. 2. Don’t just think about yourself, think about what your partner needs out of it as well.

3. Always be willing to help them and give them honesty and positivity at the same time. Make them feel you are someone they can really count on and build a future with. This is an important step in a relationship. Your partner has to be able to count on you when needed.

Make sure you have a good sense of humor with them. Laughter is the key to happiness. Laugh a lot with them, joke with them. Laughter may seem silly, but it’s the secret to a lot in life. It will keep the sparks alive. 4.

Make sure the communication is good. This goes along with trust, but always communicate how you feel, even if it’s something that upsets you. Instead of screaming, talk to them. 5. It’s important to communicate this to them, not keep it bottled up.

A.Show them your personality.

B.Do not hide things from them, do not lie.

C.Make sure you are encouraging to your partner.

D.Laughter keeps the relationship strong and lasting.

E.You can neglect them and make them feel unwanted.

F.Basically, learn to study your partners’ moods, wants and needs.

G.If they did something that made you upset, tell them about it in a respectful manner.

Earlier this year, China achieved a new milestone in space exploration. On Jan. 3, Chang’e 4 became the first space probe (探测器) in history to successfully land on the far side (dark side) of the moon. After a 26-day journey, it touched softly down on a crater. The whole process of landing lasted 12 minutes, which opened a new page in history of mankind’s space exploration.

The far side of the moon is the side that we can not see. We don’t know much about it. This landing is of great importance. The far side of the moon is an ideal place for scientific research. It may have unique minerals (矿物质)and other resources. Scientists can make clearer observations of deep space from there.

Chang’e 4 has sent back photos of the far side of the moon. It is also being used to carry out experiments. The data collected from these experiments could be used to help us build a base on the moon in the future. The success of the Chang’e 4 mission (任务) is a major achievement for China’s space program.

China launched its lunar (月球的) exploration program in 2004, naming it Chang’e. Chinese scientists set three goals-“orbiting (环绕运行), landing and sample returning”. Chang’e 4 has realized the second goal. The third will be achieved during the Chang’e 5 mission, which is set to take place before the end of this year.

Following the success of the Chang’e missions, Chinese scientists are looking even farther into our’ solar system. China’s first Mars mission is expected to be carried out by 2020.

How many calories are there in every meal you eat? That seems like a difficult question to answer. But students at Aitkin High School in the United States can easily answer it now. They put what they eat into an online calorie counter(计算器). It quickly measures the amount of calories in their meals.

In fact, this is part of the school’s health class. It includes heart health, nutrition and fitness. Students can learn basic knowledge about fats, proteins, calories and sugar.

Students learn how to balance calories in and out. They will know what happens when the balance isn’t there. “The online calorie counter has turned out to be a cool tool to help you make healthy choices. Making one healthy eating decision can really make a difference.” Adam Carlson, the teacher in charge, told local newspaper Aitkin Independent Age.

They also discus good ways to burn calories in the gym. According to Carlson, the gym is a great place to burn calories and get stronger. But it doesn’t work for everyone. So they try to find different workout tips. “I’m trying hard to teach the students that working out can be fun, challenging, and doesn’t need to take hours out of the day,” she said.

The class has indeed changed students. “I am now watching what I am eating and pay attention to the food labels,” said seventh-grader Karena Burgstaler. Another student James Erickson began to control his sugar input because it almost went over his daily calorie intake goal.

1.After taking the health class, the students ______.

A.pay more attention to food prices

B.eat more food with labels

C.try to keep a balanced diet

D.stop eating sugary food

2.What do we know about the students from the first two paragraphs?

A.They try to cook healthy food with fewer calories.

C.They create a popular online calorie counter.

D.They teach people about food nutrition in class.

3.Which of the following will Adam Carlson agree with?

A.Calories matter more than protein.

B.Fewer calories means better health.

C.The calorie counter doesn’t help.

D.Healthy eating habits are important.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.Eating with an online calorie counter

B.Counting calories to stay healthy

C.Opinions on how to balance your diet

D.A health class at Aitkin Independent Age

Florence Nightingale was born in a rich family. When she was young, she took lessons in music and drawing, and read great books. She also traveled a great deal with her mother and father.

How to Become a Lifelong Learner

Learning doesn't stop just because school does. Making a commitment to yourself to learn something new every day, you will not only enjoy what you discover, but you will be able to apply your knowledge and become a teacher to future generations. Here are some steps to become a lifelong learner.

Learn how you learn.1.Note what learning techniques are most efficient for you and use them as much as is practical, such as viewing online tutorials on websites like YouTube if you're more of a visual learner.

2.Try many different things so that you don't box yourself into believing you're only good at a few things. It's probable that you're good at many things, but you won't know until you've tried.

Look at learning as an exploration and opportunity, not a chore (琐事).Don't just force yourself to learn things because they are important or necessary.3. Follow your heart, as well as your sense of duty. Do you remember the 8th grade history that you hated so much, with all those names and dates that seemed to mean nothing? The point was to bring you to learn details now, which will knit chunks of information together later.4.

Read, read, read.5. Reading is a gateway into other worlds and into the minds of your fellow human beings. And reading will help you to learn the discoveries and mistakes of others who have gone before you; reading is, in effect, a shortcut so that you don't have to learn things the hard way.

A.Learn where your talents and interests lie.

B.It was a chore then, but it makes sense, now.

C.Recognize the educational value in whatever you read.

D.Determine your own preferred learning style or styles.

E.Their ways of learning might help you to improve your own.

F.Make friends with your local library and new and used book sellers.

G.Instead, learn things that you need to learn alongside things you love to learn.

Clothing rental is a hot new industry and retailers (零售商) are demanding to get on board in hopes of attracting green shopper.

But is renting fashion actually more environmentally-friendly than buying it, and if so, how much more? Journalist and author Elizabeth Cline investigated (调查) this question and concluded that it's not as sustainable as it seems.

Take shipping, for example, which has to go two ways if an item is rented — receiving and returning. Cline writes that consumer transportation has the second largest carbon footprint of our collective fashion habit after manufacturing.

She writes, ''An item ordered online and then returned can send out 20 kilograms of carbon each way, and increases up to 50 kilograms for rush shipping. By comparison, the carbon impact of a pair of jeans purchased from a physical store and washed and worn at home is 33.4 kilograms, according to a 2015 study by Levi's.''

Then there's the burden of washing, which has to happen for every item when it's returned, regardless of whether or not it was worn. For most rental services, this usually means dry cleaning, a high impact and polluting process. All the rental services that Cline looked into have replaced perchloroethylene (氯乙烯), a carcinogenic (致癌的) air pollutant, still used by 70 percent of US dry cleaners, with alternatives, although these aren't great either.

Lastly, Cline fears that rental services will increase our appetite for fast fashion, simply because it's so easily accessible. There's something called ''share washing'' that makes people waste more precisely because a product or service is shared and thus is regarded as more eco-friendly. Uber is one example of this, advertised as ''a way to share rides and limit ear ownership.'' and yet ''it has been proven to discourage walking, bicycling, and public transportation use.''

Renting clothes is still preferable to buying them cheap and throwing them in the dustbin after a few wears, but we shouldn't let the availability of these services make us too satisfied. There's an even better step — that's wearing what is already in the closet.

1.What is Elizabeth Cline's attitude toward clothing rental?

A.Approving. B.Unfavorable.

C.Objective. D.Enthusiastic.

2.The Uber example in Paragraph 6 indicates that      .

A.rental services are on the rise

B.clothing rental will be as successful as Uber

C.renting clothes might waste more than expected

D.renting clothes might make people lose interest in fast fashion

3.The author suggests that we should      .

A.give up renting any clothing

B.purchase inexpensive clothes

C.rent clothes rather than buy them

D.make full use of clothes we've possessed

4.What is the passage mainly about?

A.Clothing rental is a new fashion.

B.Clothing rental is retailers' preference.

C.Renting clothes is not that eco-friendly.

D.Renting-clothes business is in a dilemma.

The driver, Zhang Sal, wandered outside an apartment building in Wuhan, the central Chinese city at the heart of the Coronavirus(冠状病毒) outbreak. He had been ordered not to take food to customers’ doors in order to minimize the risk of infection. But the woman on the phone was pleading, he recalled. The food was for her mother, who couldn't go down to meet him.

Mr. Zhang relented. He would drop off the order and sprint away, As he placed the bag on the floor, Mr. Zhang said, the door opened. Startled, he rushed away. Without thinking, he said, he jabbed the elevator button with his finger, touching a surface he feared could transmit the virus.

That was how Mr. Zhang, 32, found himself speeding back to his delivery station with one finger held high in the air, careful not to touch the rest of his hand-a quarantine in miniature. (小型隔离现场)

For many in China, delivery drivers like Mr. Zhang are the only connection to the outside world. Once a common but invisible presence on the streets of nearly every Chinese city, the drivers are now being praised as heroes.

Throughout China, at least 760 million people-almost a tenth of the world’s population-face some form of household lockdown. The rules are particularly strict in Wuhan, where government efforts to contain the virus have blocked most of the 11 million residents in their homes.

Each household can send someone out for necessities just once every three days. Many residents do not go outside at all, for fear of infection of the more than 2, 100 deaths and nearly 75,000 infections linked to the new virus, the majority have been in Wuhan.

But people still have to eat, which is why Mr. Zhang and many delivery drivers find themselves on the street each day As Wuhan and the rest of China stay at home, they have become the country’s vital arteries, keeping fresh meat, vegetables and other supplies flowing to those who need them.

It is grueling and dangerous work. Mr. Zhang, who works for Hema, a supermarket chain owned by the tech giant Alibaba, crisscrosses the city armed only with the face masks and hand sanitizer that his company supplies each morning.

The epidemic (疫情) has brought some unexpected bright spots. Before, Mr. Zhang said, he sometimes ran red lights during rush hour in order to meet his delivery goals for the day. Now, the streets are empty. He has no problem getting around.

People are nicer, too. Some customers hardly opened the door or avoided eye contact. After the outbreak erupted, everyone said thank you.

1.Why did Zhang Sai wander outside an apartment building in Wuhan? Because______________.

A.He was unwilling to take food to customers ‘doors.

B.He was afraid of being infected by the Coronavirus outbreak.

C.The woman on the phone forbade him to to take food to her door.

D.He was forbidden to take food to customers’ doors.

2.Which of the following can describe the work of delivery drivers after the outbreak of the epidemic?

A.Risky and important. B.Necessary and light-hearted.

C.Easy and creative. D.Valuable and hard-working.

3.What does the underlined part “bright spots” mean in the ninth paragraph?

A.Marks on something. B.Bright places.

C.Difficult situations. D.Good things in a bad situation.

4.Why did people become nicer and say thank you to delivery drivers after the outbreak erupted?

A.Because people need them to deliver necessities.

B.Because people have realized the value of their job.

C.Because of the outbreak of the epidemic.

D.Because of the danger of infection.

When international aid is given, steps must be taken to ensure that the aid reaches the people for whom it is intended. The way to achieve this may not be simple. It is very difficult for a nation to give help directly to people in another nation. The United Nations Organization (UNO) could undertake to direct the distribution of aid. Here however rises the problem of costs. Also tied with this is time. Perhaps the UNO could set up a body of devoted men and women in every country who can speedily distribute aid to victims of floods and earthquakes.

More than the help that one nation can give to another during a disaster, it would be more effective to give other forms of help during normal times. A common proverb says, "Give me a fish and I eat for a day, teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.” If we follow this wise saying, it would be right to teach people from less developed nations to take care of themselves. For example, a country could share its technology with another. This could be in simple areas like agriculture or in more complex areas like medical and health care or even in building satellites. Even a small country is able to help less developed nations. Sometimes what is taken for granted, like the setting up of a water purification plant or the administration of a school, could be useful for countries which are looking about to solve common problems. It does not cost much to share such simple things. Exchange students could be attached for a number of months or years and learn the required craft while on the site. They can then take their knowledge back to their homelands and if necessary come back from time to time to clear doubts or to update themselves. Such aid will be truly helpful and there is no chance of it being temporary or of it falling into the wrong hands.

Many countries run extensive courses in all sorts of skills. It will not cost much to include deserving foreigners in these courses. Besides giving effective help to the countries concerned there is also the build-up of friendships to consider. Giving direct help by giving materials may be effective in the short run and must continue to be given in the event of emergencies. However, in the long run what is really effective would be the sharing of knowledge.

1.The second paragraph is developed mainly_____________.

A.by analysis. B.by process.

C.by example. D.by contrast.

2.Which aid is likely to fall into the wrong hands?

A.A medical team. B.Financial support.

C.A water plant. D.An exchange program.

3.What does the author try to express in the underlined sentence?

A.Providing food is vital. B.Leaning to fish is helpful.

C.Looking after others is important. D.Teaching techniques is vital.

4.What can we infer about international aid from the passage?

A.It is facing difficulties

B.It should be given in the form of materials.

C.It has gained support by developed countries

D.It is unnecessary during normal times.

When the winter comes, millions of Americans realize they don’t feel as happy as usual, and may be depressed If you’re one of them, you may be suffering from “seasonal affective disorder” or SAD, whose symptoms include exhaustion, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, body aches and pains, and a loss of interest in activities you normally enjoy. 1.

Take extra Vitamin D.

Researchers at the University of Georgia analyzed more than 100 articles that examined the link between Vitamin D and depression. They found that a lack of Vitamin D appeared to be a major factor in the development of SAD. 2.

3.

Most researchers agree that the people who fall victim to SAD most often are particularly sensitive to the lack of light. Weather permitting, go for a walk. In your home or office, try sitting close to a window that faces south.

Increase exercise.

Although exercising may be about the last thing you want to do and would rather curl up with a book or watch a DVD, studies have shown that upping your exercise routine can counteract SAD. And experts advise exercising at least 20 minutes a day at least three times a week. 4. The benefits are also long lasting. The longer you do it, the more benefit you’ll get.

Eat more fish.

China has entered the cinematic space race. The Wandering Earth, the country’s first blockbuster sci-fi, is on track to be one of the most successful films in China’s history.

Set in the distant future, the governments of the Earth, faced with destruction from an unstable sun, have strapped thrusters (助推器) onto the planet, carrying it out into the universe in search of a new home. But as the Earth approaches the Jupiter, something goes wrong in the system puts it on course to crash into the planet. Therefore, countless people have come forward to face the challenge and save the Earth.

The film is seen by some as the dawn of Chinese sci-fia field that has long been dominated by Hollywood.

China is already home to a thriving science and speculative fiction literary scene. The Wandering earth is based on the work of Liu Cixin, the author of the Three-Body Problem series and the first Chinese author to win a Hugo Award, “The Wandering earth fills the gap in Chinese sci-fi movies. It means that China’s sci-fi movies have officially set sail,” one fan of the film wrote on Douban.

China’s film market is expected to overtake the US as the world’s largest by 2022, but there is still a long way to go. The main difference between Chinese and US audience is trust. “Building trust between producers investors and the audience is the biggest challenge here. Not so many people have faith in a Chinese sci-fi movie.” said Liu. the author of the novel.

Some noted that unlike many Chinese blockbusters, The Wandering earth dials back on the patriotism. Rescue teams from around the world scramble to get the thrusters back up and running. A Russian soldier sacrifices his life to help a Chinese colleague.

“This is not a patriotic film but a film about humans saving themselves,” one reviewer said.

C.abandoned D.affected

3.What is the biggest challenge for Chinese sci-fi films right now?

B.There is not enough money to put into sci-fi films.

C.Chinese movie-goers lack faith in home-made sci-fi films.

D.Chinese sci-fi films don’t have a good atmosphere for creation.

4.Why does the author mention a Russian soldier’s sacrifice in the film?

A.To add more vivid and moving details to the film.

B.To compare the film with Chinese traditional films.

C.To arouse the readers’ interest in watching the film.

D.To prove the film’s theme is far beyond patriotism.

5.Which can be the most suitable title for the text?

A.The Wandering Earth helps Liu Cixin win a Hugo Award

B.The Wandering Earth challenges Hollywood in sci-fi

C.The Wandering earth calls for sacrifice to save the earth

I was 63 years old when I lost my job. After many years of rushing between home and job, between raising kids and pushing ahead professionally, it was quiet. In those silent spaces, I had time to ask myself what I really cared about. Finally I came to an answer. I cared about young people’s future. Burdened by huge education debt, unable to find a Job, many were feeling hopeless. They were in danger of becoming a lost generation.

But what contribution could I make to creating a better future for the next generation? I started a free program in which coaches and mentors (顾问) would volunteer to help unemployed young people launch their careers. I’d enjoyed mentoring younger people at work, and this fit with my desire to assist the next generation. Through my coaching contacts, 25 wonderful life and career coaches signed up to volunteer.

On The young people find us through word of mouth. Coaching is done by phone or Skype (网络电话), so location doesn’t matter.

So far 55% of over 220 graduates have found desirable jobs within a few months of finishing the program. Ninety percent have rated the coaching positively and say they are closer to their goals.

Over the course of 12 one-hour periods, the coaches help them figure out what work aligns with (使一致) their values, skills and passions, and then assist them in making a plan to move forwardincluding helping them with resumes, networking, interviewing, and job search strategies.

In exchange for the free coaching, we ask all the young participants to “pay it forward” to someone who needs their help. We explain that we won’t know whether they do or not, but the potential is there to create a ripple effects of kindness spreading outward in unforeseen ways. If fact, a number of them have offered to mentor other graduates in the program.

Anyone who commutes(通勤)by car knows that traffic jams are an unavoidable part of life. But humans are not alone in facing potential traffic jam. Ants also commutebetween their nest and sources of food. The survival of their colonies(群体) depends on doing this efficiently.

"The more they are, the more food they're going to bring back. But at the same time, they might end up with traffic jam because there are too many of them.” Sebastien Motsch, a mathematician in Arizona State University said. When humans commute, there's a point at which cars become dense enough to slow down the flow of traffic, causing congestion. Motsch and his colleagues wanted to know if ants on the move could also get blocked. So they control traffic density by constructing bridges of various widths between a colony of Argentine ants and a source of food. Then they waited and watched.

The flow of ants did increase initially as ants started to fill the bridge and then stabilize at high densities. But it never slowed down, even when the bridge was nearly filled with ants. The researchers then took a closer look at how the behavior of individual ants impacted traffic as a whole. That meant cautiously tracking thousands of separate ants as they made their way across the bridge.

Motsch and his team found that when ants sense overcrowding, they adjust their speeds and avoid entering high-density areas, which prevents congestion. These behaviors may be made by pheromones (外激素),chemicals that tell other ants where a trail is. The ants also manage to avoid colliding with each other at high densities, which could really slow them down.

Can ants help us solve our own traffic problems? Not likely, says Motsch. That's because when it comes to getting from point A to point B as fast as possible, human drivers put their own goals first. Individual ants have to be more cooperative in order to feed the colony. But the research could be useful in bettering traffic flow for self-driving cars, which can be designed to be less like selfish humansand more like ants.

1.What is the purpose of the research?

A.To compare humans with ants.

B.To see how ants, avoid traffic jam.

C.To solve the problem of traffic jam.

D.To see whether ants will encounter a traffic jam.

2.What did the researchers do before testing the ants?

A.They built bridges of different widths.

B.They made the ants on the move.

C.They watched the ants closely.

D.They got the ants blocked.

3.What is the result of the research?

A.The ants avoid entering high-density areas.

B.The ants never stop and no traffic jam happens.

C.The ants sense overcrowding and adjust their speed.

D.The ants give off chemicals to tell others where they can go.

4.What's the researchers' attitude to solving our own traffic jam?

A.Optimistic. B.Doubtful.

C.Indifferent. D.Supportive.

Every driver is familiar with the horrible blind spot problem. However, it is more than just an annoyance. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 840,000 car accidents occur due to the blind spot. Those zones which cannot be directly observed by the driver often causes incidents that result in serious property damage and in some cases even death.

While drivers can take precautions such as adjusting the driver's seat and side mirrors properly, installing backup cameras and so on, they won't remove the invisible spots completely. Therefore, the driver will always have to carry the responsibility of being constantly aware of blind spots because failing to do that can lead to accidents.

Luckily, now there's a solution to that and it comes from a 14-year-old girl, who doesn't even have a driver's license yet. However, not being able to drive didn't prevent Alaina Gassier from understanding the important issue of traffic accidents resulting from blind spots. In fact, she knows the problem so well that she actually solved it for us. And the way she did it is nothing but genius.

Her project is called "Improving Automobile Safety by Removing Blind Spots'* and work in a relatively simple way as she explained: "I did that by having a camera behind the A — pillar of a car and the camera sent the video to a projector that projected (投射)the image onto the pillar essentially making it invisible and making the driver see behind it."

To complete this invention, she used easily attainable materials such as a webcam, projector, and 3D-printed materials that project the view from outside your vehicle onto the blind spots of your car.

Gassier was awarded for her life-saving invention. It earned her the top place in a nationwide competition for middle schoolers with the $25,000 Samueli Foundation Prize in honor of overall STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) excellence.

1.Why is the blind spot problem more than an annoyance?

A.It is familiar to every driver.

B.It cannot be seen by drivers.

C.It may cause serious accidents.

D.It is often overlooked by drivers.

2.What does the underlined word "that" in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A.Adjusting the driver's seat. B.Being constantly aware of blind spots.

C.Adjusting side mirrors. D.Installing backup cameras.

3.Which of the following statement is wrong?

A.Gassier is a student, who can't drive.

B.Gassier is talented enough to make the invention.

C.Gassier uses easily-accessible materials in her invention.

D.Gassier won first place in an international competition.

4.What can be the best title for this passage?

A.A Great Invention from A Young Driver

B.Improving Vehicle Sale by Removing Blind Spots

C.A Girl's Way to Solve the Blind Spot Problem in Cars

D.A New Generation of Cars without the Blind Spot Problem

People have always been defined by their generation. We had the baby boomers of the 1960s, followed by Generation X and then Generation Y, often referred to as millennials, and the new kids on the block are Generation Z - aged between 16 and 22. It's easy to classify these young people as all being the same, sharing the same attitudes towards life—but is that fair?

People from Generation Z, informally called "Z-ers", may be viewed by others as digital natives, incapable of real-world friendships. But they actually view themselves as hardworking, ambitious and about to change the world for the better. The previous generation, born between the mid-1980s and late 1990s - the millennials were also thought to have these characteristics. But many people view this new generation as “mini-millennials" because Z-ers are different and they have their own set of values and preferences which consumer brands need to cater for.

It's true to say that technology is playing an important part in the lives of Generation Z, particularly in the area of social media. In fact, they have not known life without it and using it to communicate, share ideas and campaign is second nature. It means they have more of a say on what we eat, drink and buy than any generation before them. These young people certainly need to be listened to by retailers (零售商) and businesses - they are the people with time on their hands and money.

But being a Z-er comes with pressure. One young person says "Many people in Generation Z have mental health issues because they're unsure what the future will bring." The future always brings uncertainties but maybe there is pressure for this generation to be the most successful ever.

1.When was a Z-er likely to be born?

A.In 1964. B.In 1975.

C.In 1987. D.In 1999.

2.What do Z-ers see themselves as?

A.Diligent and ambitious. B.Hardworking and incapable.

C.Promising and different. D.Stressed and successful.

3.What're Paragraphs 2&3 trying to argue?

A.Z-ers have known life without social media.

B.Z-ers pay too much attention to digital devices.

C.Z-ers and the millennials have the same personality.

D.Z-ers become a key driving force in the consumer market.

4.What docs the author think is the real cause of the Z-ers' pressure?

A.Their ambition to be the best.

B.Their uncertainty of the future.

C.Their addiction to digital devices.

D.Their lack of real-world friendship.
