Binge-watching(疯狂观看) your favourite TV series is bad for your brain, a neurologist has warned. Dr Randall Wright, based in Texas, said the need to watch episode(一集) after episode has a similar effect on the brain to gambling. What’s more, Dr Wright added that sitting in front of the screen for hours creates an ’unhealthy environment’.

The past time often leads to social isolation(孤立), snacking on junk food and a lack of exercise and sleep, which, over time, is bad for the brain, he said. But he said it is possible to get rid of the side effects of being a couch potato with four tips.

When you let auto play start the next episode so you can find out what happens next, your brain receives positive feedback, Dr Wright wrote in an article for the Houston Methodist Hospital. This instant satisfaction is similar to gambling(赌博), where even after a win, you are not satisfied and want to continue playing. With binge-watching, you are not satisfied with stopping after episode five and want to continue watching. This cycle coupled with the snacking can lead to unhealthy changes in your brain and body over time. Dr Wright said:“Binge-watching itself is not bad. It becomes problematic when watching a third, fourth or fifth episode replaces healthy activities.”

Dr Wright suggested exercising before a binge-watching TV – or even inbetween episodes – because activity helps the brain generate new cells. Setting an alarm can be helpful for reminding yourself to go to sleep at a decent time. Spending too much time in isolation can lead to depression, Dr Wright said, so it’s important to balance TV viewing with socializing. As for the snacks, Dr Wright advises to stay away from salty, fatty, calorific foods. Research has shown unhealthy eating while binge-watching can lead to piling on the pounds.

1.Which is NOT the bad effects caused by Binge-watching?

A.Eating junk food. B.Doing little exercise.

C.More social communication. D.Not having enough sleep.

2.What can be implied in the passage?

A.Binge-watching itself is bad.

B.Binge-watching is similar to gambling in some way.

C.You are content with watching episode after episode.

D.It is unlikely to get rid of the bad effects of Binge-watching.

3.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?

A.Keeping away from snacks matters.

B.We should balance TV viewing with socializing.

C.It gives suggestions about dealing with binge-watching TV.

D.Setting an alarm reminds yourself to go to bed on time.

4.What can be the best title for the passage?

A.Saying no to gambling.

B.Sitting for long is harmful.

C.Binge-watching, Bad for brain.

D.TV series have bad influences on your brain.

Guess what former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and United States president Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Arabella Kushner, have in common? They both study Chinese as a second language.

Although Chinese is known as one of the hardest languages to learn, a lot of people from different backgrounds are studying it with hopes of big benefits.

Nov 2 saw more than 120 people, coming from 105 countries, compete in the finals of the 12th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign secondary school students. Held in Zhengzhou, Henan province, the finals was mainly made up of speech contests and talent shows. The contestants also visited the Shaolin Temple, Longmen Grottoes and other historical sites in Henan.

While reasons for learning Chinese were different, a common one was interest in the country’s rich culture and rapid development.

Raissa, 17, from the Union of the Comoros, developed a strong emotional connection with China after her grandmother was cured by doctors of the Chinese medical team in Africa three years ago. This led her to learn Chinese at a local Confucius Institute.

Fascinated by Chinese culture, the competitor has taken part in activities on traditional Chinese medicine and folk arts during her first trip to China. “My dream is to study medicine in China so that I could cure patients like the Chinese doctors did,” she said.

For Fekete Marcell Zoltan, 17, from the Hungarian-Chinese Bilingual School, studying Chinese may secure him a future job as a Hungarian diplomat(外交官) to China. “After graduation from high school, I would like to further my studies in China,” he said.

Robert Davis, director of the Chinese-language program in Chicago’s public school system, may give you a hint. “Chinese isn’t the new French. It’s the new English, which is widely used all over the world.”  he told CGTN.

4.What is Robert Davis’ attitude to learning Chinese?

A.Doubtful. B.Supportive.

C.Indifferent. D.Upset.

When I was about halfway between twenty and thirty, I lived in a large, run-down house that other people thought was romantic. The door to my bedroom was at least twelve feet tall. So I fixed a coatrack(衣帽架) over the top, and whenever I needed to get a jacket, or a towel, I stood on my desk chair to get them, swinging uncertainly.

There were six of us in the house. We were all about the same age. Two boys lived on the top floor and three lived in the basement. As the only girl, I was aware of being surrounded by shirtless boys, which is embarrassing especially in summer.

One hot afternoon, I wrote a long e-mail to my high-school English teacher, because I remembered him as handsome in a remote way. He wore expensive clothes and took an understated pleasure in saying inspiring things. I calculated that the English teacher was about forty, and then I pressed Send. The e-mail covered a lot of ground. I summarized what I called “my college experience”. Toward the end of the e-mail, I found myself saying that I couldn’t understand why I still needed to struggle in my college life.

When the English teacher wrote back, I was unexpected. In his response to my e-mail, he mentioned some stories about those who dropped out of school and their lives were hard for me to imagine.

With tears in my eyes, I decided to keep on trying even if I was not in a famous university. I believe as long as I am determined enough, I can make my life better in the future.

In 2019, to which we’re to say goodbye, we’ve seen many blockbusters, which surely leave a deep impression on us. Do you still have a fresh memory of them? Below has picked three for you. Let’s take a look.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, July 5, US

Tom Holland, the lead actor of 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, returns to play Peter Parker, a high school student who gains superpowers after being bitten by a spider.

When we see him again in theaters, Spider-Man will have a new red-and-black suit. The movie will take the famous wall-crawler on a global adventure outside of the US. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Spider-Man will try a return to his “normal” self; he will try to find his old powers on his new journey.

Hobbs and Shaw, July 26, US

To most people the Fast and Furious series is all about crazy drivers racing in sports cars. But in Hobbs and Shaw, humor is added to the action-packed thrills.

The new film will hit US theaters on July 26. Famous English actor Jason Statham will star alongside Dwayne Johnson, “The Rock”, as Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs respectively (分别地), as in their previous appearances in Fast and Furious films.

When the pair fought face to face in Fast and Furious 8 (2017), a confrontation (对峙) was considered as the “battle model for warriors”. The action and chemistry really excited their audience.

But the new action scenes between an MI6 agent Hobbs and the killer Shaw will have to be good to beat their performance in the 2017 movie.

The Lion King, July 19, US

This is a brand-new version of the classic children’s film. The story of wide-eyed young lion Simba still remains in hearts of world audiences even after 25 years. In this re-telling, Simba again begins the difficult journey to become the King of the Pride Lands, a vast African prairie.

The favorite part of the story for many has always been the friendship between Simba, the meerkat called Timon and the warthog Pumbaa. The last two sacrifice all they have to help Simba to his throne. How will the new movie re-imagine their famous relationship?

A.Hobbs and Shaw. B.Spider-man.

C.The Lion King. D.None of them.

2.What’s the difference between Fast and Furious 8 and Hobbs and Shaw?

I’ve been in Shanghai for weeks and it has all gone by so quick. Now I’m there reflecting on how this experience has helped I better understand Chinese culture. Shanghai has population of over 23 million people, who is more than the population of the top 8 most populated cities in the U.S. combined. All throughout my stay in China, I’ve seen Chinese people wore shirts with English words on them, and heard American music coming from speaker. I’ve felt comfortable in China, and although there were differences, it’s not hard to adjust. Chinese culture is different, so Western culture is too, and in this way, they’re so similar to.

Who can forget their first day of school? Students come into the classroom wondering who their teacher will be for  the year.1.Introducing yourself to those students is a big part of that first day.

Pay attention to your appearance.

Dress professionally and make sure you follow any published dress codes applying to students and staff. While you want the students to enjoy their time in your class, you want them to respect you.2.On the first day, putting your best appearance forward can set the tone for the year.

Tell personal interests and hobbies.

3.It helps them identify with you as more than just a teacher. Students may be surprised you have interests after school. Explaining some of your hobbies and interests can give students the chance to interact with you on the first day. Offering these small personal details can make you seem more approachable and will open up to a connection with your students.

Explain classroom rules.

Getting started on the first day by also explaining your class rules and what your class can expect of you is a good way to set guidelines. For example, you could say “I’m easy-going, but I do have some rules that everyone must obey.”4.

5.

If you have time after your basic introduction, ask your new students if they'd like to know anything more about you. After you have answered their questions, ask the class what they have learned about you. For example, ask "What do I like to do in my free time?" By doing that, you're reiterating your introduction, which makes it easier for the students to remember you.

A. Give name details step by step.

B. Invite questions and responses.

C. Tell your class a little more about yourself.

D. Teachers are faced with new students sitting in desks.

E. Continue to remain polite and positive when speaking to students.

F. Dressing in inappropriate clothing can be destructive in the classroom.

G. Keep those rules easy-to-remember if you introduce yourself and the rules together.

Working robots, like the KASRO, are typically big, simple, and strong. They are large preprogrammed units working in dangerous and dull jobs. But the growing trend towards collaborative(合作的) robots, or cobots, is transforming robotic use worldwide.

What big companies such as Germany’s Mercedes-Benz discovered was that robots alone were not enough to keep pace with the demand for customized products. Human-robot collaboration was identified as the most suitable strategy. By shrinking robots down to desktop size and equipping them with sensors and AI, the next generation of cobots will feel our presence, learn from us, and cooperate with us better.

“When we have people and machines cooperate, we’re much more flexible and can produce many more products on one production line,” said head of production planning, Markus Schaefer. “The variety is too much to take on for the machines.”

The future of cobot working is likely to change as new ways of interacting are developed. Voice commands are bound to be a feature as natural language processing systems become more widespread. Closer integration( 融 合 ) with machine learning and AI is sure to help realize the benefits of elements such as voice control and machine vision. Unplanned changes to production and safer interaction with humans will then require a step-change in robot learning.

Cobots will learn directly from human interaction or even from simulations( 模拟) that will help them to adapt to real-world situations. Open robotics platforms, such as Carnegie Mellon University’s LoCoBot or Elephant Robotics’ Catbot, mean that programmers can share the skills they have developed via the cloud.

Importantly, for household robots to become popular, robot learning—where environmental data is gathered to make more ideal decisions— will be needed. Cobot carers, such as ElliQ the companion robot and IKEA’s robotic furniture, promise a bright future of cooperation.

Like any achievable technological dream, such as self-driving cars, their realization is  coming soon. Cobots will become standard in the same way that a car’s GPS or the smartphone did. Their integration into society will gradually become normal.

1.What inspired Mercedes-Benz to recognize the need for human-robot collaboration?

A.The fast pace of modern life.

B.The decreasing size of robots.

C.The diversity of customer demands.

D.The great demand for personal robots.

2.What might Markus Schaefer’s words in Paragraph 3 imply?

A.People are much smarter than machines.

B.Cobots contribute a lot to effective production.

C.It’s difficult for people to cooperate with machines.

D.Robots are playing a steady role on the production line.

3.What can Carnegie Mellon University’s LoCoBot mainly help researchers do?

A.Share and improve their skills.

B.Make improvements on Catbot.

C.Interact with robots more efficiently.

D.Examine robots’ machine learning feature.

4.Why does the author mention GPS in the last paragraph?

A.To prove the wide use of high-tech machines.

B.To explain the popularity of cobots in the future.

C.To introduce another direction in robot development.

D.To predict possible difficulties in cobot development.

A new report from the U.K. says that more than 1 in 5 teens there spend five hours or more per day on social media. And the heavier users of social media go to bed later and get poorer quality sleep. The new study was based on self-reported survey data from nearly 12,000 teenage participants in the U.K. Millennium Cohort Study.

Megan Moreno, a researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, says that social media  is too often described as either entirely good or bad, when the reality is more complicated for teens. "Social media may have its problems, but it is the way that they stay in touch with each other," she says.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the study found a link between high social media usage and poor sleep patterns. Specifically, teens who report heavier social media use go to sleep later. And, the study authors note, late bedtimes are linked with poorer academic and mental health outcomes.

Holly Scott, a researcher at the University of Glasgow, isn't sounding the alarm. She says,  "it's easy to look at the results of this and think, 'We should just get teenagers to spend less time on social media.' I think that's an understandable response, but what I really encourage people to do is look beyond that." She says people should pay attention to the "important emotional and cognitive and social factors" at play with when teenagers are using social media.

Scott emphasizes that the study is pointing to a correlation between social media and poor sleep, but not necessarily demonstrating cause and effect.

"Certainly some teens do say that they struggle to get off of social media at night — they might be worried about missing out on things, or affecting their friends by not answering  messages — and they stay up late from that," she says. But, "maybe for some of those young people they have a naturally later body clock, and are passing their free time at night on social media until they're ready to fall asleep," she says.

1.What’s the purpose of the new study in the U.K.?

A.To find the benefits of using social media.

B.To know the effects of using social media.

C.To know teenagers’ habits of using social media.

D.To prove the growing popularity of social media.

2.What attitude does Megan Moreno take towards social media?

A.Critical.

B.Positive.

C.Objective.

D.Confused.

3.What does Holly Scott think of social media’s causing poor sleep?

A.It’s interesting.

B.It’s impossible.

C.It’s beyond doubt.

D.It lacks evidence.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.How to Sleep Well Tonight

B.Social Media Is Wasting Our Time

C.Teens May Be Losing Sleep Over Social Media

D.Make Use of Social Media in an Effective Way

Promise Sawyers, a 10-year-old girl in Nashville, Tenn., is inspiring people old and young after making a video before going to school “bigger and better” with her natural hair, just one day after she was made fun of for her afro.

Promise Sawyers’ motivational video was posted online by her mom Qui Daugherty, after the 5th-grader secretly recorded it on Daugherty’s phone. In it, Sawyers explained that she was feeling “some type of way” after her classmates had mean things to say after she wore her natural hair the day before. But she was determined not to let it bring her down, and wore it the same way the following day. “Don’t allow anyone to steal your joy,” Promise said. “Don’t give them that much power.”

Daugherty says that Promise has been surrounded by that type of positivity her whole life. She’s always taught her daughter to “meet a negative with a positive”, even when somebody is trying to bring her down. And although this example seems like one of the more disheartening( 令人气馁的) ones that Promise has faced after starting at a new school, her video proved that she took her mom’s advice to heart.

Now, nearly 2 million views later, people everywhere are responding to the video. “We had no idea the impact that it was going to make and the amount of messages,” Daugherty said. “It’s made a huge impact behind the scenes that has blessed me personally.”

Daugherty jokes that Promise doesn’t understand how influential her words are. Instead, the 10-year-old is just excited about the millions of views.

“I just tell her not to focus on the numbers,” Daugherty says. “Let’s find a way we can be impactful behind this and make an influence and inspire people. That’s all we want.”

1.What does the underlined word “afro” in Paragraph 1 refer to?

A.A hairstyle.

B.A disability.

C.An attitude.

D.A video.

2.What did Promise decide to do after being teased by her classmates?

A.Seek some advice from her mother.

B.Make herself look bigger and better.

C.Record her sadness on video silently.

D.Keep wearing the same hair to school.

3.What will Daugherty advise Promise to do when there’s something disheartening?

A.Switch to a new start.

B.Look on the bright side.

C.Make necessary changes.

D.Share her joy with others.

4.How did Daugherty feel about people’s response to the video?

A.Embarrassed. B.Worried.

C.Confused. D.Surprised.

The other day, it was my birthday and I was looking forward to see my friends. We were meeting at a my favorite Italy restaurant. I was exciting and got to the restaurant at exactly 7 o’clock. I looked around for a familiar face but failed. Still, I decided to wait for him patiently. The restaurant quickly filled up with customer, but none of them were my friends. I called Lily, but she didn’t answer. I felt lonely and sadly. My friends had forgotten my birthday. I went home, opened the door and walk into the dark house. Suddenly the lights went off and my friends jumped up and shouted “Surprise!” They hadn’t forgotten, it was the best birthday ever.

Scientists, psychologists and English academics at Liverpool University have found that reading the works of the classical writers like Shakespeare and Wordsworth has a great effect on the mind, catches the reader’s attention and triggers moments of self-examination.

Using a special machine, they monitored the brain activity of 30 volunteers as they read works by William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, T.S. Eliot and others.

In the first part of the research, the brain activity of 30 volunteers was monitored as they read passages from Shakespeare’s plays, including King Lear, Othello, Coriolanus and Macbeth, and again as they read the text rewritten in a simpler form or modern language.

While reading the common texts, normal levels of electrical activity were shown in their brains. When they read the works of Shakespeare, however, the levels of activity jumped because of his use of words which were unfamiliar to them. The result of the test showed that the more challenging passages cause a greater degree of electrical activity in the brain than the common ones.

Scientists went on to study the brain activity as it responded to each word and recorded how it lit up as the readers came across unusual words, surprising phrases or difficult sentences in the classical works. As a result, this lightening up process of the mind lasted longer than that when volunteers read common texts, encouraging further reading.

The research also found that reading poetry especially increases activity in the right hemisphere(半球) of the brain, an area connected with “autobiographical memory”, driving the readers to think carefully about their own experiences based on what they have read. The academics said this meant the classical works of literature are more useful than self-help books.

Philip Davis, an English professor who has worked on the study in the university’s magnetic resonance center, announced this week: “Classical literature acts like a rocket-booster(火箭加速器) to the brain, which provides extra power for the brain. You may never imagine how powerful it is. The research shows such kind of literature can create new thoughts and connections in the young and the old.”

1.The underlined word “trigger” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to “______”.

A.depends on B.picks up

C.sets off D.changes into

2.Which of the following is NOT true about reading classical literature?

A.It makes readers’ brain more active than reading common texts.

B.It makes readers’ electrical activity of brain return to normal.

C.It’s helpful for readers to come up with new ideas.

D.It’s an activity that is suitable for people of all ages.

3.From the research, we can learn that ______.

A.the readers prefer Shakespeare’s works to the other writers’ works

B.the words of classical works make it hard for volunteers to read further

C.reading classical works produces a good and long-lasting effect on the mind

D.poetry increases left-brain activity more than other literary forms

4.What does the author mainly tell us in this passage?

A.Shakespeare’s plays deserve to be read.

B.Common books are unpopular anymore.

C.Poetry is best for developing people’s brain.

D.Classical works help the brain develop better.

In colleges around the country, most students are also workers.

The reality of college can be pretty different from the images presented in movies and television. Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams, many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.

This isn’t a temporary phenomenon. The share of working students has been on the rise since the 1970s, and one-fifth of students work year round. About one-quarter of those who work while attending school have both a full-course load and a full-time job. The arrangement can help pay for tuition (学费) and living costs, obviously. And there’s value in it beyond the direct cause: such jobs can also be critical for developing important professional and social skills that make it easier to land a job after graduation. With many employers looking for students with already-developed skill sets, on-the-job training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.

But it’s not all upside. Even full-time work may not completely cover the cost of tuition and living expenses. The study notes that if a student worked a full-time job at the federal minimum wage, they would earn just over $15,000 each year, certainly not enough to pay for tuition, room, and board at many colleges without some serious financial aid. That means that though they’re sacrificing time away from the classroom, many working students will still graduate with at least some debt. And working full time can reduce the chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes.

There is little reward for attending but not finishing college. Students who end up leaving school because of difficulty in managing work and class are likely to find themselves stuck in some of the same jobs they might have gotten if they hadn’t gone at all. The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.

1.According to the passage, the reality of college students is that ________.

A. they throw parties a lot B. they stay up late every night

C. they work besides attending classes D. they pay no attention to exams

2.What is the indirect cause of an increasing number of working students?

A. The need of developing social networks.

B. The lack of summer jobs for young adults.

C. The chance of finding a job after graduation.

D. The expenses of high tuition and living costs.

3.We can learn from the passage that _________.

A. working students are more likely to finish college

B. students can cover their college expenses through working

C. students receive a huge reward for managing work and class

D. working while attending school may not help students get career benefits

4.What is the best title for the passage?

A. The Difficulties of Landing a Job

B. The Struggle of Work-School Balance

C. The Reward of Working While Studying

D. The Images of Working College Students

Why do we dream? It’s a question researchers have been studying for years. Now new research suggests that some dreams may result from the brain’s effort to keep learning, even as we sleep.

In a study in Boston, 100 volunteers were trained for an hour on a maze (迷宫). They tried to find their way through the difficult puzzle as quickly as possible. Then half of the volunteers were allowed to sleep for 90 minutes. The other half stayed awake, reading or relaxing. The ones who slept were asked to describe their dreams when they woke up.

After the rest, the volunteers were asked again to solve the maze. Those who hadn’t slept showed no improvement or did even worse after the break. Sleepers who didn’t report any maze-related dreams did better but showed only a little improvement. However, 4 nap-takers who reported dreaming about maze showed a surprising improvement. They scored 10 times higher after sleeping and dreaming about the maze.

Even though the number of dreamers was small, the researchers noted that the gap in learning between the dreamers and the non-dreamers was so wide that the finding was significant.

The dreamers had all performed poorly on the test before dreaming about it. That suggests that struggling with a task might be the trigger that leads the sleeping brain to focus on it and work on how to deal with it.

“It’s almost as if your brain is going through everything that happened today,” Dr. Stickgold, a scientist at Harvard Medical School, said, “The things you are obsessed (着迷的) with are the ones that your brain forces you to continue to do with. ”

3.According to the study, which group showed the greatest improvement?

A.Those who didn’t sleep.

B.Those who slept but didn’t dream.

C.Those who dreamed about the maze while sleeping.

D.Those who thought about the maze before falling asleep.

I must have always known reading was very important because the first memories I have as a child deal with books. There was not one night that I don’t remember mom reading me a storybook by my bedside. I was extremely inspired by the elegant way the words sounded.

I always wanted to know what my mom was reading. Hearing mom say, “I can’t believe what’s printed in the newspaper this morning,” made me want to grab it out of her hands and read it myself. I wanted to be like my mom and know all of the things she knew. So I carried around a book, and each night, just to be like her, I would pretend to be reading.

This is how everyone learned to read. We would start off with sentences, then paragraphs, and then stories. It seemed an unending journey, but even as a six-year-old girl I realized that knowing how to read could open many doors. When mom said, “The C-A-N-D-Y is hidden on the top shelf,” I knew where the candy was. My progress in reading raised my curiosity, and I wanted to know everything. I often found myself telling my mom to drive more slowly, so that I could read all of the road signs we passed.

Most of my reading through primary, middle and high school was factual reading. I read for knowledge, and to make A’s on my tests. Occasionally, I would read a novel that was assigned, but I didn’t enjoy this type of reading. I liked facts, things that are concrete. I thought anything abstract left too much room for argument.

Yet, now that I’m growing and the world I once knew as being so simple is becoming more complex, I find myself needing a way to escape. By opening a novel, I can leave behind my burdens and enter into a wonderful and mysterious world where I am now a new character. In these worlds I can become anyone. I don’t have to write down what happened or what technique the author was using when he or she wrote this. I just read to relax.

We’re taught to read because it’s necessary for much of human understanding. Reading is a vital part of my life. Reading satisfies my desire to keep learning. And I’ve found that the possibilities that lie within books are limitless.

A.her unique way to locate herself

B.her eagerness to develop her reading ability

C.her effort to remind mom to obey traffic rules

D.her growing desire to know the world around her

3.What was the author’s view on factual reading?

A.It would help her update test-taking skills.

B.It would allow much room for free thinking.

C.It would provide true and objective information.

D.It would help shape a realistic and serious attitude to life.

4.The author takes novel reading as a way to ________.

A.explore a fantasy land

B.develop a passion for learning

C.learn about the adult community

D.get away from a confusing world

5.What could be the best title for the passage?

A.The Magic of Reading

B.The Pleasure of Reading

C.Growing Up with Reading

D.Reading Makes a Full Man

Last night was the last game for my eight-year-old son’s soccer team. It was the final quarter. The score was two to one, my son’s team in the lead. Parents surrounded the playground, offering encouragement.

With less than ten seconds remaining, the ball suddenly rolled in front of my son’s teammate Mickey O’Donnel. With shouts of “Kick it!” echoing across the playground, Mickey turned around and gave it everything he had. All around me the crowd erupted (沸腾). O’Donnel had scored!

Then there was silence. Mickey had scored all right, but in the wrong goal, ending the game in a tie. For a moment there was a total hush. You see, Mickey has Down syndrome (唐氏综合症) and for him there is no such thing as a wrong goal. All goals were celebrated by a joyous hug from Mickey. He had even been known to hug the opposing players when they scored.

The silence was finally broken when Mickey, his face filled with joy, hugged my son tightly and shouted, “I scored! I scored. Everybody won! Everybody won!” For a moment I held my breath, not sure how my son would react. I need not have worried. I watched, through tears, as my son threw up his hand in the classic high-five salute and started chanting, “Way to go Mickey!
