Teenagers' fitness is now a major concern and physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientists offer the following advice to teenagers: First, find out your present level of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier.

There are three levels of fitness that need a change of lifestyle. ''Overweight'' means that the person gets very little exercise and often has a serious weight problem. ''Inactive'' means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. ''Active'' refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but do not have a high fitness level.

According to experts, overweight teenagers should work out to keep healthy. Ride a bike, play volleyball or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn calories. Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some bending and stretching exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, starting with twenty of each a day. Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger. The same rule is also suitable for active teenagers.

Experts also suggest one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. They are really important in order to prevent injuries. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be planned in the programme in order to increase the person's strength.

How do you wake up in the morning? If you set an alarm on your phone or clock that sounds like this: beep-beep-beep, that hard, unpleasant sound may be making it harder to shake off the sleepy feeling in the morning known as grogginess (昏昏沉沉).1.? A recent study says yes. The answer is music.

Researchers say alarms that have a melody can help people feel fresher in the morning. The study, carried out by researchers in Australia, involved 50 people. They answered questions about the alarm sound they like to wake up to. 2..

Sleep inertia (惯性) is another term for grogginess.3., and has trouble getting moving again after sleeping. People need to better understand sleep inertia’s harmful effects on human performance later in the day. The grogginess we may feel in the morning usually lasts for up to 30 minutes, but some may last from two to four hours. Not everyone will experience the full effect.

4., especially when they perform duties that require a top performance within this period or for people who work in dangerous situations shortly after they wake. So, what makes musical alarms better for waking up?5..

A.Possibly the different tones in it

B.Simply the single sound of “beeping”

C.So, is there a better way to wake up

D.So, what is a better way to wake up

E.But for those who do, care should be taken

F.It means a person has a heavy feeling when waking up

G.They also expressed how they feel about that sound and how they feel when they wake up

In some places around the world, you can find bright green balls of moss ( 苔藓 ) scattered across glaciers, which, surprisingly, move all at about the same speeds and in the same directions.

The glacier moss balls are commonly called “glacier mice”, and were the subject of a recent study published online in Polar Biology this month. The study’s authors believe that they develop from impurities ( 杂质 ) on ice surfaces. “They’re not attached ( 黏附 ) to anything and they’re just resting there on ice,” said one of the authors. “They’re bright green in a world of white.”

The moss balls don’t stay at rest for long, though. They moved about 2.5 centimeters per day on average. Another one of the study’s authors pointed out that movement is a necessity for the glacier moss balls because the entire surface of the ball must occasionally get exposed to the sun. “These things must actually roll around or else that moss on the bottom would die,” she said.

Glacier mice have ever been spotted in Alaska, Iceland, Svalbard and South America, but scientists still have a lot to learn about them.

One of the biggest questions is why the moss balls, which can live for at least six years, move the way they do. The researchers tried to explain this strange phenomenon in many ways.

First, they thought the balls had rolled downhill, but later found that they weren’t going down a slope ( 斜坡 ). Then, they thought the wind was blowing them in consistent directions. But when they measured the dominant direction of the wind, that didn’t explain it either. And finally, they considered the sun, which melts the ice and may make the moss balls move, but the direction of incoming solar radiation wasn’t in the direction which the balls were going in. Still confused with this problem, the researchers said that they hope that one day, future generations will “get to the bottom of these great mysteries”.

1.What interests the researchers most?

A.The discovery of glacier mice.

B.The development of impurities.

C.The distribution of glacier moss.

D.The movement of glacier moss balls.

2.Which of the following is TRUE about Glacier mice?

A.They can move fast.

B.They are attached to ice.

C.They move so as to keep alive.

D.They move from other places to glaciers.

3.How does the author explain the unusual way the glacier mice move?

A.By drawing maps and making analysis.

B.By making assumptions and doing research.

C.By doing experiments and presenting reports.

D.By making comparison and setting down general rules

4.What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Wind blows Glacier mice to move.

B.The direction of sunlight helps Glacier mice.

C.Scientists leave these mysteries to future generations.

D.It remains a puzzle why the glacier moss balls move in this way.

Dr Almeida left school at 16 with little formal education but got a job as a laboratory technician in histopathology ( 组织病理学 ) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Later she moved to London to further her career and in 1954 married Enriques Almeida, an artist.

The couple and their young daughter moved to Toronto in Canada and it was at the Ontario Cancer Institute that Dr Almeida developed her outstanding skills with an electron microscope.

She pioneered a method which better visualized ( 成像 ) viruses by using antibodies to gather them. Her talents were recognized in the UK and she was invited to work at St Thomas’s Hospital Medical School in London.

On her return, she began to cooperate with Dr David Tyrrell. Dr Tyrrell and his team were able to grow quite a few common cold-associated viruses. One sample, known as B814, was discovered in 1960. They found that they were able to transmit ( 传染 ) common cold symptoms to volunteers but they were unable to grow it in routine cell culture ( 细胞培养 ). However, volunteer studies showed its growth in organ cultures ( 器官培养 ). Dr Tyrrell wondered if it could be seen by an electron microscope. They sent samples to Almeida who found that they were like flu viruses but not exactly the same. She identified what became known as the first human coronavirus ( 冠状病毒 ).

Dr Almeida had actually seen particles ( 微粒 ) like this before while investigating viruses in mice and chickens. However, when she sent her paper about this discovery to a medical journal, it was rejected. It was two years later that the first photographs of the virus she had seen were published in Journal of General Virology. It was named coronavirus because of the crown surrounding it on the viral image.

1.Why did Dr Almeida return to work in the UK ?

A.Because her family did not like Toronto.

B.Because the UK appreciated her talents.

C.Because she bettered an electron microscope.

D.Because she was the first one to visualize viruses.

2.What can we know about B814?

A.It could be grown in routine cell culture.

B.It was unable to develop in organ cultures.

C.It’s exactly the same with influenza viruses.

D.It was identified as the first human coronavirus.

3.What can we connect with the name “coronavirus”?

A.Its viral image.

B.Its deadly power.

C.It original sample.

D.Its first appearance.

David Aguilar is a boy born without his right arm. Because of that, Aguilar has always stood out from the persons at the same age. As a child, he was very nervous to be in front of other guys, because he thought that he was different. While growing up, Aguilar had to learn how to do everything with just one hand. Although he was able to do almost everything people with two hands can do, Aguilar explained that he still thought about getting a prosthetic hand (假肢) throughout his childhood just so that he could look a little bit more normal and fit in with everyone else.

When Aguilar told his parents that those arms were cool because they were mechanical (机械的) and could make you look like a robot, his parents began thinking about buying a prosthetic arm for Aguilar. However, when Aguilar' s parents started looking into getting their son a prosthetic hand, they discovered how expensive it was. And they couldn't afford to buy one for their son.

Yet when Aguilar was playing with his Lego (乐高) at the age of nine years old, he started experimenting with building his own prosthetic arm. He didn't know it at the time, but his favorite toy was about to change the way he viewed himself as well as change the course of his life. At first, he just wanted to create something that could help him and be part of him. As he linked the blocks together around his arm, he just started making this prosthetic from Lego. When Aguilar looked at himself in the mirror for the first time with his Lego prosthetic, he was amazed by what he saw.

However, the arm wasn't the most strong and would often bend and break if he tried to do any heavy lifting with it. So almost ten years later, Aguilar set out to build himself a new prosthetic arm and he hoped to help more people who didn't have enough money to buy prosthetic hands. One day, one of his dad's friends gave him a Lego plane as a gift, but all he saw was an arm.

A recent study conducted by researchers from Canada's Wilfrid Laurier University found that the snakes actively seek out socialization with their peers (同伴),but also they are extremely particular about who they spend time with. However, snakes used to be thought of as solitary animals. They are seldom seen hanging out in groups.

A team of researchers led by Morgan Skinner and Dr. Noam Miller selected 40 non-poisonous garter snakes (袜带蛇). Ten were purchased from a snake keeper and the rest were caught in the wild. After marking each snake with a spot of color to allow for easy identification, the researchers placed ten snakes inside each of the four plastic shelters.

Skinner photographed each snake group twice a day before removing them from their shelters. After cleaning the areas thoroughly to rid them of any familiar smells, the reptiles were rearranged into different groups, and returned to the enclosure. A camera fixed over the shelters allowed the scientists to track the animals' movements for a total of eight days.

When Skinner and Miller analyzed the images, they found that regardless of where they were placed, the snakes always slipped back to their origin al "friends" forming groups of three or eight inside the small shelters. “They can tell others apart,” Miller said.

Gordon Burghardt, a biologist, says, "The study should help convince people that snakes have more social intelligence than most of us realize."

Miller believes the research could help with snake protection efforts. Endangered snake species relocated to safer habitats often leave these areas. Now, conservationists may be able to avoid that by transferring entire snake groups to the new location. Alternatively, they could also spray (喷洒)the new habitat with the species' smells to make transplants feel at “home."

1.What does the underlined word "solitary" mean in paragraph 1?

A.Causing fear. B.Existing only in small numbers.

C.Causing death or illness. D.Enjoying being alone.

2.What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A.The findings can contribute to snake conservation.

B.Snakes like to spray smells on the trees.

C.Snakes are easy to adapt to new locations.

D.Snakes tend to stay in safer habitats.

3.Which of the following proverbs can be used to describe the findings?

A.Barking dogs don't bite. B.The early bird catches worms.

C.Things of one kind come together. D.A friend in need is a friend in deed.

4.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

A.Entertainment. B.Science.

Denmark is only about half the size of South Carolina, but it produces more of its electricity from wind than any other country in the world. Denmark now gets 47%of its electricity from wind, and there will be more to come, thanks to a combination of history and policy.

Paul la Cour was a scientist and inventor who experimented with early wind power machines at the start of the 20th century. So it's not surprising that Denmark invested in building wind power the earliest. Since the 1970s,Denmark has been investing in wind energy all over the country. In the 1980s,due to a strong movement opposing nuclear power plants, Denmark increased its production of clean energy even before many other countries considered it.

Even back in 2002,Denmark took climate change warnings seriously. They drew up policies, aiming to cut fossil-fuel emissions by 20%,which they did via renewable energy investment. Some of the world's largest companies in the field—including Vestas, which builds turbines(涡轮机)and Orsted, which specializes in offshore wind projects—are Danish, so the country has an impact beyond its borders.

The huge impact of Denmark’s wind industry is important. But Denmark is a small country, so while almost 50%of its electricity from wind is admirable, it's also minor in terms of entire global impact.

While Denmark gets half its electricity from 5,758 megawatts (MW) of capacity, Spain's 23,000 MW covers just 18 percent of its electricity supply as it’s a much bigger country. China is the leader in wind energy at 221,000 MW, and the U.S.is the second in the world at about 96,000 MW.

At the end of 2019,lawmakers in Denmark set a new goal: increasing the share of electricity coming from renewable power to 100%.

1.What can we know about Demark?

A.It is a leader in solar energy. B.It is a pioneer in clean energy.

C.It is a victim of climate change. D.It is an advocate of nuclear energy.

2.What is Denmark government's attitude towards fossil-fuel energy projects?

A.Indifferent. B.Ambiguous

C.Positive. D.Opposed.

3.Which country produces the most wind energy in the world?

A.Denmark. B.China. C.The U.S D.Spain.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.Almost Half of Denmark’s Electricity Comes from Wind Power

B.Denmark's Government Pushes ahead with Fossil-fuel Projects

C.Denmark Has a Great Effect on World's Wind Power Equipment

D.Denmark Has a Long History of Developing Renewable Power

More than 30 years ago, there was a well-known boxer named Eugene Hart. Hart was heavily favored to win his next round against an ungifted boxer, Antuofermo. It was said that the only thing that Antuofermo could do was “he bled well". However, here was an important thing. He had good qualities that you couldn't see.

During the fight, Hart controlled Antuofermo, knocking him down and giving him a good beating. Antuofermo absorbed the punishment that was dealt to him by his naturally superior opponent, and he did it so well that Hart became discouraged. In the fifth round, Hart began to tire, not physically but mentally. Taking advantage of the situation, Antuofermo attacked and knocked Hart down, thus ending the fight.

When the fighters went back to their temporary restrooms, only a thin curtain was between them. Hart's room was quiet, but on the other side he could hear Antuofermo's coach talking about who would take the fighter to the hospital. Finally he heard Antuofermo saying, "Every time he hit me with that left hook (左勾拳)to the body, I thought I was going to quit. After the second round, I thought if he hit me there again, I'd quit. I thought the same thing after the fourth round. But he stopped hitting me there."

At that moment, Hart began to weep. He was crying because for the first time he under- stood that Antuofermo had felt the same way he had and even worse. And the only thing that distinguished the guy who was talking from the guy who was crying was perseverance (毅力). The coward (懦夫)and the hero had the same emotions. They're both humans.

The important question to ask yourself here is this How does each man respond to the tough situation that they are experiencing? Maybe you are in a tough position right now or, if not, one might be coming. How will you react? Like a hero or a coward?

1.What can we learn from paragraph 1?

A.Hart was an ordinary boxer.

B.Antuofermo was hardly defeated.

C.Hart was believed to win the game.

D.Antuofermo was gifted in boxing.

2.How did Antuofermo win the fight?

A.He trained hard before the fight.

B.Hart became discouraged by his coach.

C.He was confident about his boxing talent and power.

D.He dealt with the punishment properly and grasped the chance.

3.Why did Hart cry after the fight?

A.He realized he was just mentally defeated.

B.He was hurt and sent to a hospital.

C.He lost the game easily.

D.He was considered to be a coward.

4.What are Antuofermo's qualities?

A.Hard-work and honesty. B.Humor and intelligence.

C.Perseverance and determination. D.Enthusiasm and responsibility.

After my son, Scott, graduated from high school he took a job near his father. Two thousand miles suddenly separated me from the person who’d been the focus of my life for 18 years. As the days went by, I missed Scott more and more. I’d always been able to take care of myself, but now I seemed to need Scott’s help constantly, like getting a tool from the top shelf, or moving something heavy, or changing a tire on the car. Most of all, I just missed having him to talk to. I was lonely. I knew this day would come. But why does it have to be so hard?

However, a mother spider taught me a lesson.

On my way out from my storeroom, I noticed a spider building her web across the top corner of the doorway. I reached for a hoe(锄头)m, tore down the web, and watched the giant spider run away in the grass. She was back the very next morning, in the exact same spot, busily rebuilding. I stared for a moment, and then reached for the hoe again. Then I twisted the hoe round and round, catching the spider in her own web. I carried her far into my backyard, shook the hoe and watched her fall to the ground, disappearing in the bush. The third morning, I stopped short as I entered the storeroom. The spider was back in the same corner of the door frame, her web almost completed again. I reached for the hoe, but stopped. She wants her web where she wants it, I thought, and that kind of perseverance(毅力)should pay off. I stepped back and watched her long legs busily knitting the web.

For the next few weeks, the spider and I were close neighbors. One particularly boring day, I was feeling so down that I didn’t even glance up at my spider as I entered. As I stared in wonder, I found a hundred tiny angels on the floor. I realized that these were baby spiders that the eggs had hatched, and already, as the mother watched from the corner of the home that she had built, her young were making their way to the ground.

How to Live Well

At a certain point in life, thoughts may come up. How well have you lived?1.How well you’ve treated those you love and care about? Most of all, however, time seems to slip on without too much self-reflection. Maybe it’s time to slow down and think about what it means to live well.

To live means acting.2.You start action, come up with goals, make plans to help work on the desired outcome, and dive in. Not every action will immediately bring about a successful finish of the project, task or undertaking, but you learn from everything you do.

3.Being busy is an effective cure to loneliness, helps avoid depression and self-pity, and keeps us in a constant state of movement. Again, doing things often puts us in contact with others and that’s also a good thing for humans to make interaction with other humans.

But what happens when you don’t give a project or task your full effort? Are you still living well? Or are you shortchanging yourself, trying to cheat and still get the reward?4.Not only learn to face these, but also try to overcome them.

The truth is that everyone cuts corners now and then. Maybe it is because we lack time, energy, financial or other resources. Sometimes we have to make ends meet by shaving off an item or a step. That doesn’t mean we make a habit of it.5.

A.To live means you participate in life.

B.To have a good life doesn’t mean living well.

C.Keeping busy sometimes is important in life.

D.Sometimes you have to face these in your life.

E.How much you’ve achieved relative to your goals?

F.What can you do if you suffer from an illness?

G.That really means we should stop and think, in order to live better.

Health officials in the United States reported last week on what they believe could be a medical first. Officials said doctors performed what could be the first double lung transplant(移植)on a person whose lungs were severely damaged from vaping(吸电子烟). The operation reportedly saved the life of the teenager.

The young man was admitted in early September to a Detroit-area hospital with what appeared to be a common lung infection, but was later sent to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. On October 3, he was transported to Henry Ford Hospital, where the transplant was performed 12 days later.

Hassan Nemeh is a surgical director of thoracic(胸腔的)organ transplant at Henry Ford Hospital. He told The Associated PressThe APthat the damage done to the teenager’s lungs from vaping was so bad that there was no possibility to totally recover. He warned parents to think about that and to tell their children as well.

More than 2,000 Americans who vape have gotten sick since March. Many of them are teenagers and young adults. At least 40 people have died.

Recently, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a discovery into what might be causing people who vape to become sick. They identified the chemical compound vitamin E acetate(醋酸盐)as a “very strong criminal”.

Researchers found the chemical compound in fluid taken from the lungs of 29 patients. In other studies, Vitamin E acetate was found in liquid from electronic cigarettes and other vaping devices. Many who got sick said they had vaped liquids that contain THC, the part of marijuana that creates what is known as a “high”.

Dr. Lisa Allenspach is a lung specialist and medical director of Henry Ford’s Lung Transplant Program. She told The AP, “Vaping-related injuries are all too common these days. Our adolescents are faced with a crisis.” She added that vaping products should not be used in any way.

Dr. Nemeh said the 17-year-old patient’s case does not open any new moral considerations about transplants for people who severely damage their own lungs by vaping. He added, “We hope sharing this patient’s story prevents anyone else from experiencing a vaping injury that would require a transplant.”

1.What can be learned about the young man in the text?

A.He got caught in a moral dilemma.

B.He was the first to get sick by vaping.

B.To voice moral concerns for the lung transplant.

C.To express sympathy for his sufferings.

D.To disapprove of smoking.

Japanese scientists and technology companies are coming up with new ways to deal with employee shortages in delivery service. How exactly? By introducing a robot that can deliver food to your home. A Japanese company ZMP has launched robot tests recently.

The ZMP's delivery robot in the process of testing is a red box that measures 109 cm and 133 cm in heights and lengths respectively. It is designed to carry up to 100 kilograms of anything with a approximate speed of 4 miles an hour. It has its own navigating system and a map, sensors(传感器)and cameras that allow it to self-drive. These, for now, are its main technical abilities. The next developments will be control of food temperature, and perhapsvoice control and speaking abilities.

The robot will be tested together with a local sushi(寿司)delivery company Ride on Express Co. Upon making a sushi order, customers will receive codes on their smart phones that will allow them to unlock the robot and get their orders out. Similar testing attempts have been undertaken by Domino's Pizza in Australia, where they tested a delivery robot a year ago.

In any case, before robots are able to deliver food or any other goods to real customers, massive testing on public roads or in the public air space will have to take place. While it is in the government's best interest to make up for the shortage of delivery in the Japanese labor market, it is clear that self-driving machines of any kind will not be permitted on the roads until they are fully tested and proven safe enough for public roads. According to the experts, this could take another 3 to 5 years.

In any case, robot delivery is not such a distant future after all, and recent developments show that there is significant market demand for such type of delivery.

1.How do Japanese handle the employee shortages in delivery service?

A.By raising employment and working hours.

B.By employing science and technology.

C.By increasing the salary.

D.By delivering more at a time.

2.What is the second paragraph mainly about?

A.The introduction of delivery robots.

B.The usage of delivery robots.

C.The basic data of delivery robots.

D.The appearance of delivery robots.

3.What's the reaction of Japanese government to delivery robots?

A.Being critical of the technology.

B.Ignoring the development.

C.Being a little bit hesitated.

D.Becoming great interested.

4.What can be the best title for the text?

A.Robot DeliveryNew Tests in Japan B.Robot Delivery Coming to Use in Japan

C.Employee Shortage in Delivery in Japan D.Latest Automatic ServiceRobots

Stephen Hawking was regarded as one of the most brilliant physicists in history. His work on the origins and structure of the universe, from the Big Bang to black holes, changed the field greatly. His best-selling books also appealed to a number of readers.

Stephen Hawking had a challenging life. He was born in England on Jan. 8, 1942-300 years to the day after the death of the astronomer Galileo Galilei. He attended University College, Oxford, where he studied physics, despite his father’s urging to focus on medicine. Hawking went on to Cambridge to research cosmology.

In early 1963, just before his 2lst birthday, Hawking suffered from a serious disease, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was not expected to live more than two years. Completing his doctor’s degree did not appear likely. Yet, Hawking had overcome the great difficulties, not only attaining his Ph. D. but also building new roads into the understanding of the universe in the decades since.

Hawking continued at Cambridge after his graduation, serving as a research fellow and later as a professional fellow. In 1974he was inducted(正式就职)into the Royal Societya worldwide fellowship of scientists. In 1979, he was appointed Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, the most famous academic chair in the world.

As the disease spread, Hawking became less mobile and began using a wheelchair. Talking grew more challenging and, in 1985, an emergency tracheotomy(气管切开术)caused his total loss of speech. A speech-generating device was constructed at Cambridge, combined with a software program, serving as his electronic voice and allowing Hawking to select his words by moving the muscles in his cheek. Hawking died on March 14, 2018.

1.What greatly influenced the field Stephen Hawking studied?

A.He became world famous.

B.He achieved his doctor’s degree.

C.He was badly affected by a serious disease.

D.He built new roads into the understanding of the universe.

4.How did Stephen Hawking express himself finally?

A.By using body language.

B.With the help of an operation.

C.By using a speech-generating device.

D.With the help of some people.

You may write a summary paragraph about a short story or a novel for class. Or you may write it for an academic text or a scholarly article. 1. Read the guidelines below and learn how to achieve it.

Answer who, what, where, and why. Consider who is being addressed or discussed in the original text. 2. Mention where the text is set, if relevant. Finally, determine why the author is discussing or addressing the subject matter in the original text.

Have one to three sentences of supporting evidence. Aim to have one to three supporting points at the most, as you do not want to make the summary paragraph too long. Use events from the text as well as quotes or points in the text to support your opening line. 3.

4. Do not copy or paraphrase the original text. Avoid using the same language or word choice as the original text, unless you are quoting it directly.

Keep the summary short and to the point. A summary paragraph should be no longer than six to eight sentences. 5. Remove any sentences or phrases that seem repetitive. You may also show your writing to a writing instructor or a friend to get feedback on it.

A.Make sure the summary is in your own words.

B.You need to know which characters aren't important.

C.Think about what the key points or main events are.

D.There's no need to write out full sentences just yet.

E.Once you finish the first writing, read it over and improve it.

F.Actually, knowing how to write a good summary paragraph can be a little tricky.

G.For example, you may use the author's key arguments or the key events in the story.

China is recognized as a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence and facial recognition systems. A Chinese company says it has created a new facial recognition system that can identify people even if they are wearing masks. Engineers at the Beijing-based company say their system is the first to be created to effectively identify people wearing face masks.

The company told a news agency that a team of 20 people built the system in about a month. The system is based on existing technologies developed over the past 10 years. The process involved adding a collection of about 6 million unmasked faces and a much smaller collection of masked faces, the company said.

The company is now selling two main kinds of products that use the new technology. One performs "single channel" recognition, which is designed to be used at the entrances to buildings.

The other product is a "multi-channel" recognition system that uses groups of surveillance cameras. It can identify individuals in a crowd of up to 30 people "within a second.

"When people are wearing a mask that covers the mouth and the nose, the recognition rate can reach about 95%, which can ensure that most people can be identified," said Huang, vice president of the company. He added that the system's success rate for people not wearing a mask is about 99.5%.

However, the new system struggles to identify people wearing both a mask and sunglasses. "In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost. In such cases recognition is tough," Huang said.

People were reacting differently to the new technology. While some citizens have been against using such tools, the majority have accepted the technology as an effective way to decrease crime and catch criminals.

1.What did the company do to build the system?

A.They gathered many face images.

B.They employed hundreds of people.

C.They used the latest technology.

D.They spent about a decade building it.

2.According to the passage, which of the following can be true?

A.The new system has already been used by the police.

B.The recognition rate of masked faces is about 99.5%.

C.It's hard to recognize people with masks and sunglasses.

D.The single channel product is as powerful as the multi-channel.

3.Which of the key facial information might have the biggest impact on recognition rate?

A.One's eyes. B.One's nose.

C.One's mouth. D.One's hair.

4.What is the main purpose of the text?

A.To show conflicting attitudes toward the system.

B.To introduce a new facial recognition system.

C.To advertise two products of facial recognition.

D.To show the advantages of facial recognition.
