I was punished once while I was at school. That was only because I forced to do something I didn't want to do it. I got punished because of the boy, who I was really frightened for. One day, he told me he will be sitting behind me. I was asked to move my paper so that he could read that I'd written. I did as he said, but we were all caught cheating. I had to write a composition about honest. Learning what had happened, my head teacher criticized me or encouraged me to be trustworthy. I can hard forget the experience.

Oral storytelling is what's known as a human ________. For tens of thousands of years, it has been a key way that parents teach children about values and how to ________. Modern hunter-gatherer groups use ________ to teach sharing, respect for others and conflict avoidance.     Summer is fast approaching and warmer temperatures bring pests like mosquitoes.

1. An easy way to protect yourself from mosquitoes is to use a repellent(驱虫剂).Joseph Conlon, technical advisor of the American Mosquito Control Association, recommends using a repellent that is registered with the EPA Environmental Protection Agency , which promises that it causes no harm to humans. 2. Repellents with 25 — 30% concentration of DEET (避蚊胺)will provide 46 hours of protection and it is the “gold standard by which all repellents are judged," according to Conlon.

3. Conlon explained that mosquitoes can bred (繁殖)in water collected in areas as small as bottle caps but they have a limited flight range, meaning they cant travel far. "The best way to avoid them is to not have them around in the first place, he explained. "If you've got them in yor backyard, it's because you're breeding them in your backyard."

Is there anything better than “the gold standard"? Repellents made from coconut(椰子) oil work better than DEET, a government study says. 4. A slight wind from a fan can help keep them at Bay.

If you have water around your house. Beth Ranson, public relations officer for Florida Keys Mosquito Control District, suggests acquiring fish that will eat mosquito larvae(幼虫).

5.She and her team experimented with male mosquitoes infected with bacteria that stop females from producing larvae when they mate. "There's not a lot of companies producing new chemicals or treatments that we can use, she explained. " We need new technologies and products as these mosquitoes develop this resistance.

A.They can bring deadly diseases.

B.Mosquitoes are also weak fliers.

C.It is not suitable from children under three.

D.You can wear protective clothing and keep your windows closed.

E.Another key is to get rid of all the standing water every five days.

F.The repellent is also guaranteed to provide at least two hours of protection.

G.Ranson also started to find high-tech solutions to growing mosquito populations.

The popular streaming service Netflix announced plans to exclude (排除) tobacco use from any of its new shows and movies that target younger audiences, specifically those below the age of 15. According to media reports, the decision comes from pressure from Truth Initiative, a large non-profit organization aiming to get rid of tobacco and make its use “a thing of the past”.

Smoking is a bad habit and no parents want their kids to start smoking. As such, excluding the vice (坏习惯) from television shows and movies young people watch makes good sense. I’ll acknowledge that Netflix’s decision to exclude smoking is a good one — but it’s a wildly inconsistent standard. What about other vices? For example, the use of bad language?

As parents of three young boys, my wife and I are trying to expose our children to good things. We want to encourage them to grow up to become responsible men who see the value and potential in every person. We want to see them avoid the landmines that so often entrap young people today.

Sadly, typical television shows and movies contain material that’s the exact opposite of that. It’s often said that companies only produce what people will consume — and there’s some truth in such a claim. But the organization I work for has long had an online site that helps parents know about what's in a movie, show or music album. We don’t tell you whether you should watch or listen — we simply let you know what it’s about — and let you decide. It’s our most popular site, attracting millions of visits each month.

Netflix might be surprised how many new customers they would win if they started producing content that parents actually want instead of themes that regularly stand in opposition to the values of the millions of moms and dads like me who want to see our kids accomplish more in life rather than simply avoiding the smoking habit.

1.Why did Netflix plan to cut smoking from youth-targeted content?

A.Because of appeals from parents.

B.Because of the influence of media reports.

C.Because of requests from young audiences.

D.Because of pressure from a tobacco control organization.

2.What are “the landmines” in Paragraph 3?

A.Bad habits. B.Comfort zones.

C.Unrealistic dreams D.Improper friendships.

3.What does the online site mentioned in Paragraph 4 do?

A.It teaches parenting skills.

B.It promotes youth programs.

C.It advertises movies and shows.

D.It serves as an entertainment guide.

4.What does the author think of Netflix’s decision to exclude tobacco use?

A.It is helpless.

B.It is far from enough.

C.It is against popular values.

D.It is a warning to tobacco makers.

In a world where nearly 6 million fingerprint records of government employees are stolen in one computer hack, and here millions of people are victims of identity theft every year, the next step in cybersecurity may well be mapping your brain.

Researchers at Binghamton University, State University of New York are working on a biometric system that records how your brain reacts to certain images. With a little more polishing, the scientists brainchild could become the way you get into a safe deposit box, your office or past scanners at the airport. It could replace the password for your online banking, your email or your social media accounts.

The started their project by measuring the brain waves of 30 subjects, The subjects were fitted with a cap that had 30 electrodes attached to it, and then shown various images and symbols—celebrity faces, words, pictures of foodon a computer screen in 200- millisecond bursts. The brain's reaction was recorded.

The idea is that every time a person needs to use a “password”, he or she goes through the same procedure, and the results are matched with their first-time reaction. If the “brainprint”' is compromisedlike what happened with the fingerprint recordsthen the system is merely reset by running another set of images and collecting a different set of brain waves. “Even if that was stolen, you could just cancel it and record one to something else”, says professor Laszlo.

Laszlo and her team have shown that their system can be 100 percent accurate. So one of the more difficult parts of making the system practical already has been overcome. Now they're spending much time recording accurate brainprints with as few as three electrodes, which could make recording in the future as easy as wearing a pair of special glasses. They're also working with cheaper material and methods to see if they can bring the cost down.

1.What does the underlined word “brainchild” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A.The brain function. B.The fingerprint record.

C.The biometric system. D.The online password.

2.Why were the images and symbols shown to the subjects?

A.To create their brainprints. B.To check the brain's reaction.

C.To match brainprints with pictures. D.To connect brain waves to electrodes.

3.What are the researchers doing with the program now?

A.Making it user-friendly. B.Improving its accuracy.

C.Recording more brainprints. D.Increasing the number of electrodes.

4.Which's the best the title of this passage?

A.Brain waves—the necessity of passwords B.Biometric systerm—the hope of cybersecurity

C.Brainprint—the future of passwords D.Fingerpint—the challenge of cybersecurity

I was 16 years old the day I skipped school for the first time. It was easily done: Both my parents left for work before my school bus arrived on weekdays, so when it showed up at my house on that cold winter morning, I simply did not get on. The perfect crime!

And what did I do with myself on that glorious stolen day, with no adult in charge and no limits on my activities? Did I get high? Hit the mall for a shoplifting extravaganza (狂欢)?

Nope. I built a warm fire in the wood stove, prepared a bowl of popcorn, grabbed a blanket, and read. I was thrilled and transported by a book—it was Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises—and I just needed to be alone with it for a little while. I ached to know what would happen to Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley and Robert Cohn. I couldn’t bear the thought of sitting in a classroom taking another biology exam when I could be traveling through Spain in the 1920s with a bunch of expatriates (异乡客).

I spent that day lost in words. Time fell away, as the room around me turned to mist, and my role—as a daughter, sister, teenager, and student—in the world no longer had any meaning. I had accidentally come across the key to perfect happiness: I had become completely absorbed by something I loved.

Looking back on it now, I can see that some subtle things were happening to my mind and to my life while I was in that state of absorption. Hemingway’s language was quietly braiding itself into my imagination. I was downloading information about how to create simple and elegant sentences, a good and solid plot. In other words, I was learning how to write. Without realizing it, I was hot on the trail of my own fate. Writing now absorbs me the way reading once did and happiness is their generous side effect.

1.Why did the author skip school on that day?

A.Because her parents left home early. B.Because it was a cold winter morning.

C.Because she was fascinated by a novel. D.Because she hated to take the biology exam.

2.What did the author think is the source of true joy?

A.Reading by the fire. B.Travelling in Spain.

C.Breaking the regulations. D.Being occupied by one’s passion.

3.Which can best replace the underlined phrase “braiding itself into” in the last paragraph?

A.Entering. B.Destroying.

C.Mending. D.Blocking.

4.What can we infer from the passage?

A.I was tired of my real-life roles.

B.I learnt how to write on the internet.

C.Hemingway skipped school when he was young.

D.Becoming a writer was my childhood dream.

The world's best largest bicycle park

Ector Hoogstad Architecten has completed a three-storey bicycle park to store 12,656 bikes below Utrecht Central Station in the Netherlands.

The project begins as part of a wider redevelopment of the area surrounding the city's railway station, and is designed to enable cyclists to ride from the street level to the bike store, from which they can quickly access the station. It is hoped that the project will encourage locals to commute (通勤) using bikes and public transport instead of cars and make Utrecht a more sustainable(可持续的) city.

''Our comfortable bicycle parking is the answer to a major problem in the inner cities worldwidepollution,'' explained the Rotterdam architecture studio. ''We created such a park that favors cyclists and pedestrians and make scar useless attractive.''

Ector Hoogstad Architecten won a competition to design the bike park at Utrecht Central Station in 2011.The first phase was finished in August of 2017, opening with space for 6,000 bikes. Now completed, the bike park accommodates three levels of underground stores for 12,656 bicycles-overtaking the world's former largest bike parking lot in Tokyo that houses 9,000.

Besides the storage, the project has a repair service and a bicycle hire shop. It also relies on a digital system to guide cyclists to a parking spot that provides the quickest access to the platforms.

The three-storey bike parking sits directly below Utrecht Central Station, accessed by pink cycle lanes(车道) that continue down inside and wraparound the edges of the structure.

The bike lanes connect to the parking across three levels. They are also color-coded(用颜色区分的) to guide cyclists through the space and to their parking lot.

Each parking spot branches off from the cycle paths, designed to provide plenty of space for people to dismount from their bikes without getting in the way of other cyclists. The concept is about speed and safety.

''The building is more than just the basic service system,'' added Ector Hoogstad Architecten. ''It adds an exciting and surprising architectural aspect to the city. Cycling through the garage has become a unique experience-not just another part of everyday life in the city, but almost an attraction in its own right. ''

D.To provide unique public services.

2.What is special about the digital system?

A.It guides cyclists to a parking lot.

B.It offers easy access to bike repair service.

Pre-school teacher Rosa Ramirez has a special way of asking her students to line up for playtime outside. “Pueden pararse si llevan puesto algo de color amarillo, como una abeja,” she tells them. In English, Ramirez would say, “You can stand up if you are wearing yellow—like a bee.” But this is the half of the school day in which she teaches completely in Spanish.

Students are not confused by her language choice. Most of the four-year-olds wearing yellow stand up as instructed. The pre-school bilingual program at Gates Street Early Education Center in Lincoln Heights is part of a growing number of bilingual education models in California and across the country. Many of them are designed to serve students from Spanish-speaking families, as well as students from other cultures, under growing evidence that learning two languages can help people from all backgrounds become stronger students.

About 3.8 million students in U.S. schools are native Spanish speakers who are not good at English. They make up a large part of about five million students nationwide identified as English language learners. English language learners are the fastest-growing population in schools and the lowest-performing, as judged by achievement tests and graduation rates. Sixty-seven percent of students with limited English skills graduated from high school after four years in 2016, compared with 84% of all students.

Language experts recommend how to improve the situation: more high-quality, long-term bilingual programs can close the achievement gap between English learners and native English Speakers after five to six years, according to research.

The programs can be hard to put into practice. Problems include a debate over the best way to teach English learners, shortages of bilingual teachers, and even the fact that bilingual programs often grow fastest in areas where upper-income parents ask for them. That’s good for children who participate, but it worries people who want to see language-minority students have equal access.

“If we can make children feel more ready and more accepted, then we’ve gone a long way to making them ready to learn, ” says Tara Fortune, an expert in children education.

1.How do the pre-school children react after hearing Rosa Ramirez's words?

A.They all stand up and try to catch bees.

B.Most children in yellow stand up as she asks.

C.They are all happy to wear new yellow clothes.

D.A large number of the children are confused.

2.What is the purpose of bilingual education models in America?

A.To help students from other cultures study.

B.To help students learn as many languages as they can.

C.To make English popular among students abroad.

D.To make students from other backgrounds physically stronger.

3.What is the situation of students who are native Spanish speakers, according to the passage?

A.They make up a small share of English language learners.

B.Sixteen percent of them fail to graduate every year on average.

C.They perform relatively poorly in studies.

D.84% of them can graduate with good scores.

4.What is the bilingual program like?

A.It is not accepted by rich families from other cultures.

B.It is not a good thing if it lasts for the whole life of students.

C.It is common in schools with students from different backgrounds.

D.It is hard to introduce especially with language-minority students.

While silver-glassed mirrors still serve a useful purpose when reflecting your image back to you, some fashion and beauty leaders figured that if you added smart technology to mirrors, they could elevate(提升) the customer’s experience. This vision is now a reality thanks to the significant advances in artificial intelligence(AI), augmented reality (AR), and gesture recognition technology. Several smart mirrors have been created and applied in our daily life.

Wella Professionals Smart Mirror

Wella Professionals Smart Mirror is Coty's version of smart mirror that had won the CES 2019 Innovation Awards. This mirror allows stylists to provide more personalized suggestions. It is able to do a live AR hair color try on and can provide a 360-degree of the style so the customer can see what it will look like from all angles. In addition, using facial recognition technology (FRT), it can search past styles for each customer, allowing the stylist and client to really assess what works and what doesn't.

Memory Mirror

Memory Mirror, a digital mirror created by Memo Mi, combines a full-length mirror with high-tech including a 70-inch LCD, computer and HD camera that can record videos so you can save, share and review your try-on sessions.

Sephora 3D AR Mirror

Sephora is a beauty retailer that offers a 3D augmented reality mirror. Customers trying out different products can move their faces from side to side, and the highlighted eye shadow or lipstick stays where it is supposed to create a very realistic effect. The technology is expected to not only enhance the customer experience but drive sales. When it's easier to experiment with different looks, it makes it easier to discover new products to purchase.

SenseMi’s Virtual Dressing Mirror

While your haircut, hair color and makeup choices are important for your overall look, SenseMi expanded the makeover capabilities to create a virtual dressing mirror, too. The company's smart mirror is used in retail stores, and there's a home version that allows you to “try” on clothes digitally.

Artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality (VR) will help to make retail stores more interactive(互动的) and the online experience more real-life. Perhaps more importantly, with the help of smart mirrors, the days of bad haircuts and color and makeup choices will be a thing of the past.

''I'd like to play a game. That is so much fun. It's not so very hard to do.''

As soon as I hear ''Simple Simon says put your hands on your head'', I am back in my grandfather's living room on New Year's Day in the early 1970s. It was our family's favorite song to get the party started.

Grandfather's house was the gathering place for my mum, dad, aunties, uncles and cousins to meet up. My mum comes from a big family, so there was always lots of chatter and laughter. Whenever someone told a story they would get up and do all the actions to illustrate it, which was great fun.

Grandfather had a coal fire, so it was always warm, even if it was freezing outside. He sat in his armchair and happily watched everyone dancing while he smoked a pipe.

Once Simon Says had got the party going, other records would follow, such as Sugar, Sugar by the Archies.

Later there would be a sing-along, with everyone taking turns to sing old folk songs such as A Warship Had Landed. I would put my hands over my ears at this one as it was so sad.

Grandfather drove us home as he didn't drink. The road we travelled on was dark. There was one big bump(隆起物) that made us feel as if we were on a roller coaster(过山车). As we approached it, we would shout, ''Go faster, Grandfather! ''

I've been to many New Year parties, but none can match those family get-togethers at Grandfather's. You can keep your Gangnam Style moves—it's much more fun to dance along to Simon Says!

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Alexis Vaughan, 17, sat quietly in the passenger seat of her dad's car. She stared out the window at the Preston, Idaho, cornfields.

Alexis, a high school student, let her eyes lazily scan the landscape for wildlife. Still, she was terrified when a deer came into view about 200 yards in front of them, just a few feet off the road. "Dad, there's a deer, there!" Alexis said, rolling down the window for a better look. It was a three-point buck (雄鹿) — a male deer with sharp, three-pronged antlers () on each side of its head.

As the car moved closer, Alexis saw that the buck's head was bent toward the ground. Then she heard a scream. A few seconds later, she saw an arm fly up near the buck's head. Alexis realized the buck was attacking a woman. Sue Panter, a 44-year-old mother, had been out for her morning run. The buck had come out from the tall corn and began following her. Having lived in rural Idaho for years, Sue knew that most bucks got frightened by humans. But this buck edged closer, even when she threw at it with a handful of gravels (石子).

Sue went to pick up a log to use for self-defense, and the buck attacked her. It lifted her with its antlers () and threw her into the air. Sue could feel the horns punctured (刺穿) her leg and blood flowed down her leg. Within seconds, the buck had pushed her off the road and into the cornfield.

When Alexis and her father pulled up, the buck was rolling Sue like a rag doll. Alexis looked into the woman's terrified eyes, and before her father had even stopped the car, the 104 pound teenager jumped quickly out of the car and down the slope toward the buck. She was kicking and hitting it to get its attention. Then Michael, her father, who had followed his daughter, wrestled the buck away from the women by holding the antlers.

Competition is a common phenomenon in our social life. 1. There is constant competition for academic degrees, jobs, customers, money and so forth. In a sense, competition is one of the motive forces to the development of society.

2. Therefore, the only way to survive is to be competitive. Growing in a competitive environment is important for a child because future adult life is difficult. Finding a good job, for example, is an extremely competitive activity.

Today, most people obtain knowledge through various ways and a large number of people get good education. 3.The quality of people is rapidly increasing. Competition is more violent than what we thought it should be. The potentially successful job applicant has to be prepared in stronger position by gaining more qualifications and experience. In the sports contests, the strongest will come out as winners. In the business world, to beat your competitors, you must be better than the other employees. 4.

Though the only way our world rewards people is to give honor to the winners, not to the losers, by attempting to compete at different activities, we can still learn to win and lose, gain experience and know our strengths and weaknesses. Competition prepares us for the tough things in life.

Whether in games, in study or in business alike, the aim is to win the game, the degree, the trophy, and the contract. 5.

A.Otherwise, you will be defeated.

B.Modern society demands high-quality talents.

C.Learning to be competitive is clearly the best preparation for life.

D.There are also many people who have higher degrees in their special fields.

E.Children have to learn to be competitive in order to adapt to modern society.

F.In the natural world, the weak will be replaced by the strong and the fittest can live.

G.We compete when we play games and when we try to do better than others in our study.

Scientists say they have developed a system that uses machine learning to predict when and where lightning will strike. Researchers report the system is able to predict lightning strikes up to 30 minutes before they happen within a 30-kilometer area.

Lightning is a strong burst of electricity in the atmosphere. Since it carries an extremely powerful electrical charge, it can be destructive and deadly. European researchers have estimated that between 6,000 and 24,000 people are killed by lightning worldwide each year. For this reason, climate scientists have long sought to develop methods to predict lightning.

The system tested in the experiments uses a combination of data from weather stations and machine learning methods. The researchers developed a prediction model that was trained to recognize weather conditions that were likely to cause lightning.

The model was created with data collected over a 12-year period from 12 Swiss weather stations in cities and mountain areas. The data, related to four main surface conditions: air pressure, air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed, was placed into a unique machine learning algorithm (算法), which compared it to records of lightning strikes. Researchers say the algorithm was then able to learn the conditions under which lightning happens.

The researchers test-ran the system several times. They found that the system made predictions that proved correct almost 80 percent of the time. “It can now be used anywhere,” the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology said in a statement.

The researchers plan to keep developing the technology in partnership with a European effort that aims to create a lightning protection program. The effort is called the European Laser Lightning Rod project. Scientists working on the project are experimenting with a laser technology that could someday control lightning activity, transferring lightning charges from clouds to the ground. They hope that such technology can one day be used as protection against lightning strikes. Possible uses could be at stations, airports or places where large crowds gather.

1.Why was the system developed?

A.To meet kids’ curiosity about lightning.

B.To show the power of lightning.

C.To keep track of lightning deaths.

D.To protect people from lightning.

2.What is special about the system?

A.It was based on a number of samples worldwide.

B.It adopted a different machine learning algorithm.

C.It used an effective method of collecting data.

D.It required low cost of predicting lightning.

3.What will the researchers do next with the laser technology?

A.Monitor lightning activity. B.Prevent the occurrence of lightning.

C.Direct energy from lightning. D.Generate electricity with lightning.

4.What can be a suitable title for the text?

A.A System of Controlling Lightning B.A Method of Forecasting Lightning

C.A Theory of Employing Lightning D.A Model of Creating Lightning

The worst outbreak of desert locusts (蝗虫) in decades is presently underway in the Horn of Africa. It is the biggest of its kind in 25 years for Ethiopia and Somalia — and the worst Kenya has seen for 70 years.

What we are seeing in East Africa today is unlike anything we’ve seen in a very long time. Its destructive potential is enormous, and it’s taking place in a region where farmers need every gram of food to feed themselves and their families. Most of the countries hardest hit are those where millions of people are already vulnerable (脆弱的) or in serious humanitarian need, as they endure the impact of violence, drought, and floods.

We have acted quickly to respond to this outbreak. The primary method of battling locusts is the aerial spraying of pesticides (杀虫剂). FAO’s “Locust Watch” service explains that “although giant nets, flamethrowers, lasers, and huge vacuums have been proposed in the past, these are not in use for locust control. People and birds often eat locusts but usually not enough to significantly reduce population levels over large areas.”

The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has released $10 million from its Central Emergency Relief Fund to fund a huge scale-up in aerial operations to manage the outbreak.

But the window to contain this crisis is closing fast. We only have until the beginning of March to bring this infestation under control as that is when the rain and planting season begins. If left unchecked — and with expected additional rains — locust numbers in East Africa could increase 500 times by June.

We must act now to avoid a full-blown catastrophe. And we will. At the same time, we need to pay attention to a bigger picture. This is not the first time the Greater Horn of Africa has seen locust outbreak approach this scale, but the current situation is the worst in decades. This is linked to climate change. Warmer seas mean more tropical storms, generating the perfect breeding conditions for locusts.

1.What is implied in paragraph 2?

A.People in East Africa are suffering drought.

B.People in East Africa are going through floods.

C.The locust outbreak will cause crop failure.

D.The locust outbreak is worsening locals’ life.

2.What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A.We need a bigger picture to study the disaster.

B.It is the second outbreak of locusts in East Africa.

C.It is the largest outbreak of locusts ever in history.

D.The outbreak of locusts is fueled by global warming.

3.What is the purpose of the text?

A.To analyse and compare. B.To inform and call for.

C.To argue and discuss. D.To introduce and assess.

4.Where does the text probably come from?

A.A guidebook. B.A health magazine.

C.A news report. D.A chemistry paper.

Growing up, Deka Ismail says she let labels define what she could be. “I was a black girl, from a refugee (难民) family,” Deka said. “It was as if I was only allowed to explore in this predetermined box”

After a high school chemistry class inspired her to think about a career in science and gave her confidence in the field, Deka learned to live outside labels and began making big plans for her future. Now she is about to begin her freshman year at the University of California, planning to become a professor.

Born and raised in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood, Deka is the daughter of a Somali refugee couple. When Deka was eight years old, her mother got a job by studying hard back in school in order to support the whole family. That made Deka realize that education could make a difference to one's life. She spent a lot of time in the library reading books, and didn’t do many of the things her peers did, like partying or having romantic relationships.

“I always felt like I had to be the perfect girl for my family,” Deka said. “You have to do your best and do much better than everyone else. I felt like the whole world was waiting for me to mess up.”

Deka’s efforts paid off. The summer before her senior year of high school, she was accepted to the American Chemical Society Project SEED Programme. “She brought both enthusiasm and focus,” Botham, a researcher at this research institute, recalled. “She arrived every day ready to work, ready to learn and ready to tackle new challenges regardless of whether or not she had done anything similar.”

When asked what advice she would give to others like her, Deka warned them not to underestimate themselves. “Don’t tell yourself that scholarship is too big or this programme is too competitive or I’ll never get into this school,” she said. “I was not sure whether I could make it until I started seeing the acceptance letters rolling in.”

1.From the passage, we can learn that ______.

A.Deka was adopted by a refugee family

B.Deka became a professor after graduation

C.Deka’s experiences drove her to work hard

D.Deka spent a lot of time going to parties

2.Deka realized the importance of education ______.

A.after her chemistry class B.from her mother’s experience

C.by reading books in the library D.through working at the institute

3.According to the last paragraph, Deka advised that students be ______.

A.patient B.ambitious

C.confident D.generous

4.What does the story intend to tell us?

A.Life is not all roses. B.Practice makes perfect.

C.Well begun is half done. D.Hard work leads to success.

Just as John Lubbock said, we may sit in a library and yet be in all quarters of the earth. Here are some of the coolest libraries of the world.

Stuttgart City Library

Despite a classic white-on-white color, Stuttgart City Library is one of the most visually appealing modern libraries. The amazing modem and simple look is the product of the Korean architect Yi Eun-young. The German library opened in 2011, and cost nearly 80 million euros to construct.

Kanazawa Umimirai Library

Architects from the Coelacanth K&H Architects studio designed the Kanazawa Umimirai Library lo create the best reading environment. Healed floors, an outpouring of natural light, and other features were specifically included lo achieve this goal. The wall, which consists of thousands of tiny openings, allows natural lighting into the building, improving the overall feel of the space. This Japanese library was opened in 2011, and reflects the appearance of many modem and simple spaces.

Library of Congress

In 1800, Congress set up the Library of Congress in Washington D.C..
