You're at home, and the work is piling up. Deadlines are fast approaching, and yet you can't seem to focus. The kitchen, the laundry, the television...they're all right there teasing you into switching them on, cleaning them, using them.1.

Distinguish between work and home mode

One of the biggest advantages of working from home-slowly moving from bed to the sofa five minutes before you start-can also be your biggest challenge. Don't forget that you are there to work. Get out of your pajamas, and get dressed like you are going to work.2.

Be realistic about what you can achieve

A wide, open day working from home can feel full of possibilities. 145 things on the to-do list? No problem!3.Be realistic and then you will possibly achieve more than you set out to. You'll end up feeling satisfied, rather than feeling disappointed you didn't do everything.

Work in short bursts

In the office your day is broken up by everything from meetings to water-cooler chats, and lunch breaks, but a day at home can be very unstructured. In order to be productive, you should impose structure on yourself.4.This can be an effective way to maintain your concentration levels.

5.

Distractions, distractions, distractions! You know the ones, they are everywhere at home and they're always calling your name! To stay focused, make a dedicated workspace away from potential distractions like TV, an Internet connection, and chores. Keep things that interrupt your focus limited to short breaks in between periods of focused work.

A.Manage distractions.

B.Put what you need at hand.

C.However, don't fall into the trap of being over-ambitious.

D.For example, a 45-60 minutes' focused work can be followed by a short break.

E.This will change your mindset and help you switch from home to work mode.

F.Well, here are a few tips to help you take control of your time and productivity when working from home.

G.You tell yourself you will spend just a few short minutes on Facebook or YouTube only to pick your head up an hour later and glance at the clock in disbelief.

Green therapy: how gardening is helping to fight depression

A growing movement is promoting the role gardening can play in patient recovery.

Sydenham Garden feels out of step with its surroundings in urban south London. Surrounded by houses on most sides, with a school on its doorstep, it is hard to imagine that this small patch of green space is bringing a new life to people struggling with their mental health. The site, run by the Sydenham Garden charity trust, is just under an acre and has a well-being centre with gardens, a nature reserve and activity rooms. Therapeutic(治疗的)gardening activities are held weekly, and are run by experienced staff, who are in turn supported by a team of volunteers.

Christine Dow, 63, was originally referred to the garden by her GP to help overcome her depression. After a year of "green" therapy, she became a volunteer, for the past decade she has spent a few hours every week supporting others referred to the project.

During 2017-2018, Sydenham Garden received 313 patient referrals(转诊)from health professionals. A typical referral will be between 6 and 12 months. Most people referred will score in the low well-being category-according to the Warwick-Edinburgh scale-when starting, but score in the moderate well-being category upon completion. It is part of a growing movement devoted to increasing the role that gardening and other forms of "green" therapy cam play in patient recovery. It is also one of the 1,500 organizations signed up to Growing Health, a national project set up by the charity Garden Organic and the membership organization Sustain.

"Gardening is not for everyone," says Maria Devereaux, a project officer at Sustain. "Butincreasingly now, we've got evidence that even people who aren't gardeners are able to harvest the benefits of being outside working with nature and all the things that come with it." Evidence collected by Growing Health found simply viewing a green space trough a window could help people relax and reduce stress levels. Other evidence confirmed that the physical activity of gardening could improve mental wellbeing.

1.What do we know about Sydenham Garden?

A.Sydenham Garden Can't keep pace with is surroundings.

B.Sydenham Garden is beneficial to people with mental health.

C.Sydenham Garden is very large with a well-being centre.

D.Sydenham Garden holds therapeutic gardening activities monthly.

2.What can we infer from Christine Dow's example?

A.She helped others overcome depression.

B.She was an experienced staff in Sydenham Garden.

C.She devoted herself to referring others to the projects.

D.She might be grateful to this "green" therapy.

3.What does the first "it" refer to in Paragraph 4?

A.A typical referral. B.Green therapy.

C.Sydenham Garden. D.Sydenham Garden charity trust.

4.What's Maria Devereaux's attitude towards Gardening?

A.Optimistic. B.Critical.

C.Indifferent. D.Disapproving.

Somewhere between 40,000 and 110,000 tons of plastic waste produced by Americans ends up in the ocean, according to a study published in the journal Science.

It's difficult to point out where all that waste comes from, and researchers think that much or most of it probably comes from the nation's seriously-populated coasts. But there's also evidence that the nation's inland waterways serve as a passage for plastic to travel thousands of miles into the oceans.

While researchers have documented plastic and human trash floating in the world's oceans, there has been relatively little attention paid to plastics in rivers, streams and lakes. "To my knowledge, no one has studied particular routes, with the exception of places like L.A, and Baltimore Harbor where there are measures in place to prevent trash in rivers from entering the ocean." said Kara Lavender Law, an oceanographer.

The few studies that exist, however, suggest that it may be a huge problem. A 2011 study of two southern California urban rivers---including Santa Ana River---found that every square meter of water contained from 125 to 819 pieces larger than 4.75 millimeters. Another survey of the Meuse River, which flows 575 miles through France, Belgium and the Netherlands to the North Sea, found that it contained 70,000 pieces of plastics per square meter of water, about 500 of which were roughly an inch or bigger in size.

If there's anything positive in this, it's you that can do something, at least on a personal level, to reduce the amount of plastic that goes into the oceans. "Put trash where it goes." said Jenna Jambeck, an associate professor of environmental engineering at the University of Georgia. "Use reusable items---bags, cups and bottles---to reduce waste."

Finally, Jambeck urges people to pick up litter along waterways, and record it with a phone app called the Marine Debris Tracker. The data you provide can help scientists to get a better handle on the trash problem.

1.According to the text, the least polluted place might be __________.

A.Santa Ana River B.Meuse River

C.Baltimore Harbor D.The North Sea

2.How does the author prove plastic waste in rivers is a huge problem?

A.By referring to experts' views. B.By listing statistics.

C.By making comparisons. D.By following time order.

3.What does Jenna Jambeck advise us to do?

A.Make use of plastic items. B.Reduce the size of waste we throw away.

C.Stay positive about the oceans' future. D.Start from small things to deal with waste.

Brook wanted a dollhouse and some sugar cookies. So the 6-year-old asked Alexa to get them. Alex, a vice-activated home assistant powered "by artificial intelligence"(Al), made Brooke's wishes come true. A few days later, much to her parents' surprise, four pounds of cookies and a $170 dollhouse showed up. And that's not the end of the story. When a news anchor told Book's story on TV, Alexa devices in many listeners' homes woke up and tried to order dollhouses!

Alexa isn't the only Al willing to order. Apple HomePod has Siri, Google Home has its Assistant, and the upcoming Galaxy Home device will have Bixby. People who own these devices use them mainly for listening to music, checking the weather and setting timers. But many experts predict a boom in voice shopping in the near future. Is that a good thing?

Convenience is the main benefit of voice shopping. You can shout out an order as soon as you think of it, even if you're cooking, cleaning, or driving. In addition, people with disabilities who are unable to use a keyboard or mouse can shop without assistance.

But voice shopping has its downsides. Unwanted dollhouses aren't the biggest problem. It's usually very easy to cancel an order or return items. The thing that creeps some people out is that these assistants are always listening. They have to be able to respond when you want them. So they listen for "Alexa" or "OK Google" or another command. When they hear it, they start recording the conversation. Some have worried about what happens to these recordings. Should companies be allowed to use them to learn about people's shopping habits? Should police access them to solve a crime? And what if someone hacks the device? The CIA found a way to hack smart TVs to turn them into spies that listen all the time. Others could do the same with any smart device.

1.The writer mentions Brook and Alex in the first paragraph to __________.

A.share an interesting experience B.show Brook's eagerness for cookies

C.introduce the topic of voice shopping D.show the functions of a new smart device

2.What does the underlined phrase "creeps... out" in the last paragraph most probably mean?

A.Terrifies. B.Affects.

C.Impresses. D.Excites.

3.According to the passage, what's the major disadvantage of voice shopping?

A.The return policy is complicated.

B.There are safety and privacy concerns.

C.Quality of the goods can't be guaranteed.

D.The device is not smart and reliable enough to process orders.

Scientists who study the Sun watch for sunspots—violent storms that can affect communicationsnavigation systems and even electric power stations on the Earth.

Sunspots are a product of huge electromagnetic storms on the Sun. Scientists on the Earth are able to observe sunspots eight minutes after they happen. That is how long it takes for the Sun’s light to reach us.

The first electrically charged particles (颗粒)from a sunspot enter the Earth’s atmosphere about 20 to 30 minutes after the storm happens. These particles can harm human beings. So before they arrive, astronauts on the International Space Station move into special areas designed to protect them from their effects.

About a day or two later, the biggest part of the storm arrives. It is called a coronal mass ejection. “That is billions of tons of solar material that's blown away from the Sun. It’s traveling millions of kilometers an hour, but that is relatively slow.” says Alex Young, the Associate Director for Science at NASA's Heliophysics Science Division.

Several civilian government agencies and the U.S. Air Force watch weather conditions in space 24 hours a day. NASA does so because it must protect its astronauts and the electronic devices on its spacecraft.

Scientists are also trying to understand why the number of sunspots rises and falls at almost regular intervals every 11 years. In other words, scientists can almost predict the amount of solar activity. Sometimes the intensity (强度)is highersometimes lowerFor example, the current solar cycle, as it is called, is much lower than the previous one.

Several satellites watch the Sun and the environment between the Sun and tho Earth. Pictures and other information from the satellites tell scientists what is happening on and near the Sun.

Alex Young says we have only been looking at the Sun with powerful instruments for about 30 to 40 years. Thai is a very short time compared to ll\o four billion years that tho star has been shining.

1.Why do astronauts on International Space Station move into special area?

A.To avoid being harmed. B.To charge the battery.

C.To watch the Sun closely D.To protect devices on the spacecraft.

2.How long does a solar cycle last?

A.About 8 minutes. B.About 20 to 30 minutes

C.About 11 years. D.About 30 to 40 minutes

3.What enables scientists to watch the Sun?

A.Environmental changes. B.Good weather conditions

C.Advanced instruments. D.Government agencies

4.What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.The role of satellites. B.findings about sunpots

Madagascar lies in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. The island is perhaps best known as the unique home of the lemur (狐猴). But those lemurs live among some of the most rich and varied flora (植物群)in the world. And so threatened is that flora that British and Malagasy scientists were involved in a project to collect seeds from the island to be stored in a British seed bank. The project is being done by the Royal Botanic Garden in London. The botanist Steward Cable is head of the conservation center there and a frequent visitor of the island.

I mean Madagascar is well known as one of the top biodiversity hot spots in the world. It has perhaps 13,000 plant species. 90% of those are unique to the country, i.e. found nowhere else in the world. But also many species, many of those species are only found in small areas.     And I would say that probably about 80% of the population are dependent on farming.

And a lot of their farming is slash and burnshifting cultivation (耕作)where farmers have to move to a new patch of forest every year. They cut it and they burn it and they can grow dry rice or cassava for a year or so or two years at most. And the nutrients are gone and they have  to move to a new patch of forest .And for centuries that would not have been a problem with the low population and with long periods of no farming but people returning after three or five years something like that ,then the forest became grassland. So we are losing many of those species in Madagascar, those unique species.

B.The flora on Madagascar is in great danger.

C.The island will sink to the bottom of the ocean.

D.The British seed bank wants to make money from them.

3.What is the result of the way people farm?

A.Many farmers have lost their homes. B.The population is becoming smaller.

C.Some rare species are gone. D.The crops are poor in nutrition.

4.How does the author sound?

A.Hopeless. B.Enthusiastic. C.Optimistic. D.Worried.

Chess is one of the oldest board games in the world. A version of the game was first played in India in the sixth century. Throughout time, the game has been played by kings, knights, and generals who warned to prove their military skills and practice war strategies.

Todaythe game is played by millions of ordinary people as well. Most play for fun,but there are players who compete seriously and have gone on to gain the rank of grandmaster -the highest rank a player can achieve.

In 1991, when Hungarian Judit Polgar achieve the rank of grandmaster, it caused quite an uproar (骚动). First of all, Polgar is a female playing in a sport traditionally dominated by men. Also, Polgar was only 15 years old, making her the youngest in history at the time. In 1993, she defeated former world champion Boris Spassky in Budapest, Hungary. In 1998, she became the first woman in history to win the U. S, Open Chess Championship, which was held in Kailua-KonaHawaii.

Like her two older sisters, Polgar was strictly trained to be a master chess player as a young girl. She was homeschooled in all her subjects and played chess several hours every day. At the age of five, she was beating her father at the game. At eight years oldshe was competing internationally. At the age of nineshe competed in and won the New York Open Chess tournamentplacing first among unranked players. The young Polgar was just getting started.

Known for her fiercely competitive nature and ability to understand her opponents strategy early in a game, Polgar quickly won the respect of both fans and fellow chess players. Despite her achievements and clear talent, she often had trouble getting into top competitive situations because many of them didn’t include women. Polgar wanted to compete with the bestto be a world champion and not just a female champion. For this reason, she absolutely refused to play in women-only competitions. Her refusal paved the way for the next generation of female chess players.

My grandpa worked as a carpenter, who has devoted all his energy for carpentry for almost sixty years. Several years before, he began to make wooden models of farm tools. On National Day when I returned back and visited him with my parents, he showed me that he had created. He hopes he could expose people to the traditionally way of farming.     More than a billion people around the world have smart phones, almost all of which come with some kind of navigation app such as Apple Maps or Amap. This raises the age-old question we meet with any technology: What abilities is our brain losing to these apps? But also, importantly: What abilities are we gaining?

Talking with people who are good at finding their way around or good at using paper maps, I often hear a lot of annoyance with digital maps. North/south direction gets messed up, and you can see only a small section at a time. I can really understand that it may be quite disturbing for the already skilled to be limited to a small phone screen.

But consider what digital navigation aids have meant for someone like me. Although being a frequent traveler, I'm so terrible at finding my way that I still use Apple Maps almost every day in the small town where I have lived for many years.

In many developed nations, street names and house numbers can be meaningful, and instructions such as go north for three blocks and──then west’’ make sense to those familiar with these rules. In Istanbul, however, where I grew up, none of those hold true. For one thing, the locals seldom use street names. Besides, the city is full of winding and ancient alleys(小巷) that cross with newer avenues at many angles. In such places, you’d better turn to the locals. In the countryside, however, there is often nobody outside to ask. In fact, along came Apple Maps, like a fairy grandmother whispering directions in my ear. Since then, I travel with a lot more confidence, and my world has opened up.

Which brings me back to my original question: While we often lose some skills after depending on new technology, this new equipment may also allow us to gain new abilities. Maybe when technology closes a door, we should also look for the doors it opens.

1.Why do people who are skilled at reading paper maps feel upset?

A.They are interested in reading paper maps,

B.They don’t know how to use navigation, apps.

C.They are limited to a single smart phone app.

D.They are confused by digital maps’ direction.

2.According to the text, which is the best way to find the destination in Istanbul?

A.Asking local people the way.

B.Following the navigation app.

C.Getting familiar with the city rules.

D.Looking for street names and house numbers.

3.What’s the author’s attitude towards the navigation apps?

A.Cautious B.Ambiguous

C.Favorable D.Critical

4.What could be the best title of the passage?

A.Benefits of Navigation Apps

B.Disadvantages of Navigation Apps

C.My World Opens Up by New Technology

D.Have Navigation Apps Worsened Our Brain?

Sea urchins(海胆) are small creatures , but what’s really remarkable about them is that they eat anything that happens to float by. They have really sharp teeth they use to rid rocks of algae(海藻)which makes them pretty valuable especially in places like Hawaii where algae are threatening the coral reefs. In the summer of 2019, 500,000 of them were used to deal with the algae.

The problem started when non-native algae were introduced to the ecosystem of Kaneohe Bay in the 1970s. Because they had no enemies, they ended up taking over the bay, according to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The algae blocked sunlight from reaching the coral, which in turn affected the local fish because they changed the chemistry of the water.

That’s when the NMFS turned to sea urchins that loved to devour the algae. But they had to grow to the size of a cherry tomato before they could be used. Since 2011, sea urchins have been grown and used to handle the algae problem. Some of the funds are available due to an unfortunate incident. In 2005, a ship was grounded on a shallow reef near Kaneohe Bay. When the ship was removed, 20 acres of reefs have been damaged. When there is environmental damage, the NMFS and other agencies receive funds from the wrongdoers and the funds are used to restore the damage. Some funds were spent on other projects like the sea urchins. The state of Hawaii began to grow the sea urchins. When they are large enough, divers carefully place them on the reef.

Algae isn’t the only thing that threatens the coral reefs. Climate change and the effects of fishing and tourism in the area also endanger the coral reefs. But turning to sea urchins instead of man-made solutions seems like the best way to go.

1.Why are sea urchins regarded as outstanding creatures?

A.They are tiny but have teeth.

B.They can keep the ocean clean.

C.They can remove harmful algae.

D.They grow on coral reefs with algae.

2.What happened after non-native algae arrived at Kaneohe Bay?

A.They helped the coral reefs to survive.

B.They spread to every corner of the bay.

C.They didn't fit in with the new surroundings.

D.They fought against other species to get food.

3.Which word can replace the underlined word “devour” in paragraph 3?

A.Eat B.Block

C.Attack D.Attract

4.What does the author suggest doing to save coral reefs?

A.Banning fishing and tourism. B.Relying on humans’ solutions.

C.Employing divers to handle algae. D.Letting nature take care of nature.

On Hoxton Street in East London there is a very special children’s writing and mentoring(辅导) center called the Ministry of Stories, which is fronted by its shop , Hoxton Street Monster(怪兽) Supplies, where you can expect to find monster food. The store raises funds for this very special program that fires children’s imagination.

The youth aged 8 to 18 enter the Ministry, through a secret door that is designed to open a world of opportunity by encouraging a love for writing. The organization believes that, “Writing increases self-respect, improves communication and can change lives.” That’s because writing allows children’s voices to be heard.

This year, the workshop is celebrating 10 years of helping children discover a love for writing through creative programs. Founded by Lucy Macnab, Ben Payne and best-selling author Nick Hornby, the organization works with around 1,000 children per year participating in schools, and community programs across Hackney, Islington, and Tower Hamlets. It now has over 400 volunteers and runs its program free of charge for the youth of the areas.

“Through a range of creative writing programs, and one-to-one mentoring, we aim to help young people find their own qualities that can be developed,” Macnab told The Telegraph. “We build confidence, self-respect, and communication skills in both workshops for schools and out of school writing clubs.”

One 10-year participant, Nmeso, said that the weekly after-school club he attends at the Ministry has helped him grow his imagination and improve his academic performance. In fact, he was able to move up a grade in school. What’s even more remarkable is that Nmeso has had a story he wrote published ── along with other writers in the program ──titled Andre Has a Hard Time .This is Nmeso’s success story.

We look ahead to London’s art and exhibition openings and select the must ─ see shows.

Double science

It’s a big month for the Science Museum, with a new gallery and an exhibition opening. The Science City gallery tells the story of London between 1550 and 1800 when major scientific breakthroughs were happening across the city──from Newton’s laws of physics to the birth of microscopes allowing us to see the tiny creatures that live among us. If that isn’t enough, there’s also an exhibition on how art and science have worked closely together over the centuries and continue to do so today.

Science City 1550──1800: The Linbury Gallery at the Science Museum. Opens 12 September──13 October, free.

The Art of Innovation: From Enlightenment to Dark Matter at the Science Museum. 25 September──26 January, free but ticketed.

Are you worried yet?

We all suffer from anxiety. Artists look into this through artworks that bring to light their own anxieties or how people living with anxiety manage. The exhibition also covers what anxiety would look like if it could be visualised in light or sound──something we imagine to be impossible.

On Edge: Living in an Age of Anxiety at Science Gallery. 19 September──19 January, free.

Climbing the walls

No artist has made a bigger career out of placing sculptures of human figures all over the place. Antony Gormley, the artist behind the Angel of the North and sculptures standing all over London, takes over the Royal Academy of Arts with a blockbusting(轰动一时的) exhibition. This is the hot art ticket in town.

Antony Gormley at Royal Academy of Arts. 21 October──3 December, £18──22.

1.What is on show in the Science City gallery?

A.Some of the greatest physicists.

B.The stories of the London development.

C.The prediction of the future science.

D.Some of the great achievements in history.

2.Which exhibition allows visitors to know about a negative mood in a new way?

A.The Art of Innovation. B.On Edge.

C.Royal Academy of Arts. D.Science City 1550 ─ 1800.

When I was in middle school, I enjoyed reading science books, and they were really difficult to understand them. Whenever a problem beats me, I would turn to my physics teacher for help. Go through materials together page by page, we were tearing the mask of nature off. It was his guidance which encouraged me to study physics serious today. Now we’re in a period when science plays an important role on people’s lives. From construction workers who build laboratories to teachers who pass on knowledges, everyone contributes to science in their own unique ways. All in all, science is everlasting topic for mankind. Faced with it, we must make ourselves well preparing.

Three simple keys to success

Being successful means different things to different people. 1. My point is, the specifics involved in finding success can vary greatly, depending on your goal.

There are three basic components necessary for finding success, regardless of the specifics of your pursuit. And, since the desire for ownership is the driving force behind acquisition, I’ll use the word OWN as my simple three-item method for success.

1.O-Opportunity: one of the most important components in finding success is being able to identify opportunity. It is to success what wind is to sailing. 2. Identifying opportunity is the first step; awareness sets your sails for success while your motivation provides the wind.

2.W-Wisdom: By definition, wisdom is the accurate application of knowledge. 3. It requires clear understanding, great insight and good judgment. Once opportunity is identified, you must use all your inner resources to seize it and make the most of it. 4. Finding success when opportunity presents itself often means reaching out for help in areas where you have weakness.

3.N-Never give up: This might possibly be the most important for success. The key is to first break your goal down into workable parts so you don’t feel pressured, and then to work each part at ease with both enthusiasm and purpose. It takes a lot of time, effort and determination to succeed. 5.

A.Being successful demands doing well.

B.But wisdom involves more than just knowing.

C.You simply can’t have one without the other.

D.Having this attitude keeps you moving in face of trouble and becomes the driving force.

E.Besides, wisdom means knowing your limitations.

F.You’ll finally succeed if you follow these steps.

G.The road to success is being largely determined by what result you want to achieve.

Photographic self-portraits have existed for as long as cameras have been in human hands. But what about selfies in space? On Twitter last year, NASA astronaut Edwin Aldrin, who famously became the second man to walk on the moon in July 1969, laid claim to a spaceflight first: taking the first selfie in space during the Gemini XII mission in 1966.

“For me, it needs to be digital to be selfie,” argues Jennifer Levasseur, a director at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. According to Levasseur, the concept of a selfie is directly linked to internet culture. “The thing that makes a selfie is sharing it,” she says.

Still, astronauts have been carrying cameras aboard space vehicles since the 1960s. In 1966, Aldrin used a Hasselblad camera designed specifically for space. Hasselblad also painted the first camera in space a matte(磨砂) black to reduce reflections in the orbiter window. But cameras used in space need to survive extreme conditions, like temperature swings from -149° to 248°F, so Hasselblad painted later model silver.

Astronauts visiting the moon then had to take out the film and leave their camera bodies behind when they returned to Earth, because early space missions were limited by a weight limit on the returned trip. Then a big change in space camera technology came after the space shuttle Columbia broke apart on its return to Earth in 2003, Levasseur notes. “Fear that they’d never be able to bring film back from space and lose all that hard work accelerated the push for digital,” she says.

Today, astronauts also have access to internet and social platforms in space and can post true space selfies made using digital cameras. Similarly, space robots are participating in selfie culture, capturing remote pictures of themselves in space or on other planets and sending them back to Earth.

1.Why do selfies in space need to be digital according to Jennifer Levasseur?

A.Astronauts are fond of studying technology.

B.Astronauts are eager to be famous on the Internet.

C.Astronauts desire to communicate on social platforms.

D.Astronauts want to overcome the fear in space.

2.Why can the Hasselblad camera adjust to the temperature changes in space?

A.It is painted silver.

B.Its matte black gathers light.

C.Its design is special.

D.It can reduce reflection itself.

3.What contributed to the faster development of camera technology in space?

A.The heavy space tasks.

B.A returned space shuttle.

C.A spaceflight crash.

D.The improved film.

4.What can be a suitable title for the text?

A.The Origin of Selfies in Space

B.The Brief History of Selfies in Space

C.The Significance of Selfies in Space

D.The Popularity of Selfies in Space

The age of technology is a great and convenient thing, but it does have effects on us in many different ways.

It causes long-term memory loss. Thanks to Baidu, we don't really have to remember much of anything. Questions are answered at the drop of a hat because Baidu is all-knowing! Is that a good thing, though? People aren't digging through their brains anymore to find answers. Here's the good news: we can still exercise our long-term memory by simply thinking before we Baidu. If we don't want to go down that road, we can search Baidu for some memory games to play. Turn Baidu into an asset instead of an enemy.

It makes us lack patience. Baidu gives us what we want. Everything is instant. In fact, if we have to wait for even a handful of minutes for anything, we start losing our minds. This idea of instant satisfaction carries through to many other aspects of our lives, too, like when we go out to eat, drive in traffic, or even deal with workplace accidents. Instead of using Baidu to lessen our anger, try searching for some mindful meditations (沉思).Focus on our breath and realize everything doesn't have to move at lightening speed. We can actually listen to some peaceful spa or meditation music on our Pandora, too!

It wastes our time. Be honest, how much time are we spending on Baidu every day? Whether we're doing research for our own personal needs, buying clothing, or writing a research paper, we all spend a ton of time on the trusty Internet. Are we always being efficient with this time? For the sake of our precious time, if we haven't used Baidu Drive, we should. Keep spreadsheets, text docs, PDFs, slideshows, and even recordings exactly where we can easily find them. Keep a running list of websites we know we'll revisit.

Overall, things are different these days. Yes, there are noticeable negative side effects because of the Baidu invasion, but we don't have to fall into that trap. Stay sharp and don't let ourselves become imprisoned doing the Baidu god's bidding.

1.Which of the following can best replace the underlined part “at the drop of a hat”?

A.at one point B.in no time C.in a way D.at a loss

2.Why do we turn impatient in real life according to paragraph 3?

A.We depend on ourselves too much.

B.We can't get everything with Baidu.

C.We can't get quick services in real life.

D.We get used to Baidu's quick convenience.

3.What is the author's advice on saving time online?

A.Using Baidu Drive.

B.Keeping papers correctly.

C.Being efficient with work.

D.Emptying websites records timely.

4.What does the text mainly tell us?

A.The side effects of Baidu and solutions.

B.The advantages and functions of Baidu.

C.The technology and influence of the Internet.

D.The disadvantages and risks of the Internet.
