Switching from childhood to adulthood can be challenging. Oftentimes, you may still feel like a child. Work on not acting like a child by managing your emotions. With a little bit of practice, 1..

● Accept responsibility for your actions.

You should take responsibility for your actions, whether they are intentional (故意的) or unintentional. 2. Failing to accept responsibility may seem like a good idea at the time, but in the long term it will not benefit you. For example, if you accidentally back into your neighbor’s car, let them know by writing them a note or knocking on their door. Then, correct your mistake by paying for the damage.

● Show people respect.

Respect your partner, family members, friends, and strangers. 3. As you grow up and mature, you should understand the concept of respect and why it is important Giving respect will also give you more respect in return.

4.

When you are faced with a conflict, it is important to keep your emotions in check. Control your anger and avoid becoming aggressive. Take a deep breath, listen, and work through the conflict with the other individual. Give yourself time to cool down if you are really angry. This will prevent you from saying and doing things that you shouldn’t do in the heat of the moment.

● Receive feedback (反馈) positively.

People learn and grow by receiving feedback and criticism from others. You should accept that you don’t know everything and that feedback from an expert is not meant to hurt you. 5. For example, thoroughly read through your edits on your research paper. These edits will help improve your writing in the future.

A.It is meant to help you.

B.Take on responsibilities.

C.Develop a way to handle conflict maturely.

D.It is a sign of maturity and respect for others.

E.Children are often selfish and disrespectful.

F.it is impossible for you to reach your goal like an adult

G.you will begin to see yourself acting more like an adult than a child

Bowhead whales (弓头鲸) can live 200 years or longer. How they do it is no longer among the secrets of the deep. Scientists have mapped the genetic code of this long-lived whale species. The international effort found unusual features in the Arctic whale’s genes. Those features likely protect the species against cancer and other problems related to old age.

“We hope to learn what is the secret for living longer, healthier lives,” says João Pedro de Magalhães. He is a gerontologist (a scientist who studies old age) at the University of Liverpool in England. He also is co-author of the study that appeared January 6 in Cell Reports. His team hopes, he says, that its new findings might one day be used “to improve human health and preserve human life.”

No other mammal is known to live as long as the bowhead. Scientists have shown that some of these whales have lived well beyond 100—including one that survived to 211. For perspective, if he were still alive, Abraham Lincoln would be turning just 206 this year. De Magalhães’ team wanted to understand how the bowhead can live so long. To study this, the experts analyzed the animal’s complete set of genetic instructions, called its genome (基因组). Those instructions are coded in the animal’s DNA. The team also compared the whale’s genome to those of people, mice and cows.

The scientists discovered differences, including mutations (突变), in the whale’s genes. Those changes are linked to cancer, aging and cell growth. The results suggest that the whales are better than humans at repairing their DNA. That’s important because damaged or flawed DNA can lead to diseases, including some cancers.

Bowheads also are better at keeping abnormally dividing cells in check. Together, the changes appear to allow bowhead whales to live longer without developing age-related diseases such as cancer, says de Magalhães.

1.What do we learn about bowhead whales?

A.Their average life is 100. B.They are the longest-lived animals.

C.They don’t have aging problems. D.They live in the Arctic Ocean.

2.Why did scientists map the genetic code of bowhead whales?

A.To discover the secret of long life.

B.To find out a cure for cancer.

C.To prevent age-related diseases.

D.To lengthen human life.

3.Why does the author mention Abraham Lincoln?

A.To remind us of the time he lived.

B.To show the long life of the bowhead.

C.To compare him with the bowhead.

D.To express people’s respect for him.

4.What allows the bowhead to live a longer and healthier life?

A.Good DNA repair system. B.Gene mutation.

C.Cell division. D.Perfect living environment.

Commuters of the future could get some relief from congested roads especially the peak-hour traffic if Uber’s plans for flying taxis work out.

The battery-powered aircraft looks like a cross between a small plane and a helicopter, with fixed wings and rotors (旋转器). It was presented at an international technology conference in Lisbon, Portugal.

Catering for the need of shorter city travel time, the vehicle is intended to soar over traffic congestion. Uber hopes it will eventually become a form of convenient mass transport and cost commuters aboard less than using their own car, though initially it will be more expensive than that, Uber’s Chief Product Officer Jeff Holden said.

The scheme still faces plenty of challenges, including certification of the new vehicle by authorities, pilot training and constructing urban air traffic management systems that prevent collisions.

Holden declared that Uber is joining NASA’s project to expand air traffic systems, which scores of other companies already belong to.

He told The Associated Press in an interview that he has no dollar figure for the total investment. He said Uber is putting some of its own money into the project, developing software, while other investors are also involved, such as aircraft manufacturers that are developing the vehicle and real estate companies that are providing so-called “skyports” where people will catch their airborne taxi.

Uber is making a bid to reform and polish up its image which has been damaged by certain negative news. Holden said those episodes did not slow development of the flying taxi project of the great company that is in transition.

1.What result is Uber’s flying taxis aimed to achieve?

A.Shorter city travel time. B.Smooth flow of traffic.

C.Higher economic efficiency. D.Convenience of people’s life.

2.Which of the statement is correct according to Holden?

A.Flying taxis are more cost-effective than driving private cars.

B.Uber has to cooperate with NASA to reach it’s goal.

C.The success of this project, if possible, will polish up Uber’s image.

D.The final achievement of Uber’s goal relies not only on the company itself.

3.What does the underlined word “episodes” in the paragraph probably mean?

A.trouble B.exchange

C.incident D.process

4.What is implied in the last paragraph?

A.Uber is committed to developing the flying taxi project.

B.Uber is to accomplish it’s transition period in the near future.

C.Uber’s reputation used to be ruined by rumors.

D.Uber has recovered from it’s damaged image.

I realized something this morning. I have been writing now for 34 years. It all started when I was just 18 years old. As a boy I had read literally (毫不夸张地) hundreds of books. I had a thirst for knowledge that seemingly could never fade. Then suddenly I found I had something I wanted to share. I tried to ignore it, but as any writer will tell you once the ideas awaken inside of you they won’t leave you alone until you write them down. I didn’t have a computer, word processor, or even a typewriter. Still, I grabbed a pen and lined notebook paper and wrote everything that was burning inside of me.

When I was done I didn’t know how to share it. There was no internet back then, no smart phones, and no social media. I sought out the editor of my local county newspaper and asked him to print what I had written. He was a good man full of both wisdom and kindness. He not only printed my first story but agreed to publish anything else I was willing to write. I continued to write new articles each week and shared them first with other local papers and later online as well. Years later at the urging of my readers I even self-published two collections of my stories in book form.

Through my writing I slowly became more than I was. In my writings I encountered my highest self. In my writings I discovered the goodness and light that lies in us all. In my writings I found great love and joy and encouraged others to choose love and joy as well. I also found that we all are writers whether we put pen to paper or not. With every choice we make, with every thought we hold, and with everything we do we are writing our own life story.

Lance Wubbels once wrote: "I hope you realize your life is truly your life. It belongs to you. It is your story to write with love. Day by day, line by line, write it well."

1.What can we infer according to the first paragraph?

A.The author regrets ignoring some details in life.

B.When the author was young he wrote many books.

C.Other famous writers have given him inspiration.

D.The author is likely to be in his early fifties now.

2.How did the author begin his writing career?

A.He self-published two books.

B.He put his stories online by himself.

C.He was hired as a newspaper editor.

D.He received help from a local newspaper editor.

3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the author?

A.Writing can benefit oneself as well as others.

B.Everyone can become a successful writer.

C.Writing helps him tell right from wrong.

D.The Internet was a must in his becoming a writer.

4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A.A Way to be a Writer B.Living is Writing

C.A Way to Share Ideas D.Writing is the Source of Love

Named after the 798 factory that was built in the 1950s, the art zone is home to various galleries, design studios, art exhibition spaces, fashionable shops and bars. You could easily spend half your day wandering around the complex, feeling the contrast of the present and the past.

The other day, I together with several friends went back to a nearby hospital to do some voluntary works. We helped some patients cleaned their rooms and did everything we could serve them. I noticed a little girl between the patients. Though she was weak, yet she was lovely and active. He asked to sing a song for us in return for our kindness. Stood in front of us, she began to sing. Great to our surprise, her voice was so beautifully that it fascinated us all. After that, we had the talk with her. She told us that her wish was to become a singer. We encouraged her to follow her dream.

An image is worth a thousand kilos? Okay, so maybe not a thousand kilos, exactly, but a study shows how a photo diary can keep dieters motivated, making them more likely to achieve their target weight.

Elias Kuzmar Daza, a medical professional from Colombia, studied the motivation levels of patients on weight loss programs at a nutrition clinic.

Different measurements were taken of the patients each week, including body mass index (指标) food and exercise diaries, etc. to record their progress. In addition, full-body photographs were taken each week, which proved to be very motivating and a key factor in patients completing the full program.

Over the course of the sixteen-week program, a full ninety percent of patients, aged between 16 and 72, saw the treatment through to the end, with seventy percent successfully meeting their weight loss aims. Among those monitored, one measurement proved particularly motivating: waistline.

This finding indicates that the majority of the patients who attended the clinic did so motivated by image, rather than any underlying condition. It should be pointed out that eighty percent of them were female.

Another useful finding of this study was that patients did not necessarily need to attend the clinic in person for the program to be effective. A support line was set up, which patients could call to submit their measurements. They also took and sent their own full-body photographs to the researcher. Fifty percent of patients completed the program in this way.

Summarizing the findings, Kuzmar says: “What patients want is a photo, rather than cold numbers.” These photos serve as visual confirmation that all their hard work is paying off, encouraging them on to further weight loss.

1.What is the purpose of the study?

A.To show losing weight is very easy.

B.To compare several ways to lose weight.

C.To prove the effect of images in weight losing.

D.To see how many people can lose weight successfully.

2.How many patients in the clinic reached their weight-loss goals?

A.50%. B.70%.

C.80%. D.90%.

3.What can give people most motivation when they are trying to lose weight?

A.Friends’ encouragement. B.Others’ strong muscles.

C.Their slimmer waistline. D.Their standard blood pressure.

4.What must the patients do to complete the weight-loss program?

A.Go to the clinic every week.

B.Call to submit their measurements.

C.Report to the professional every day.

D.Take full-body photographs each week.

Boxwars is a fast-growing entertainment phenomenon that takes the childhood pastime of playing with cardboard boxes to a whole new level. Participants use cardboard to create weapons, trucks, tanks, huge animals and so on. Then they put on monumental battle shows during which every creation is completely destroyed!

Boxwars is the brainchild of Australian friends Hoss Siegel and Ross Koger, who came up with it nearly a decade ago over drinks. They did it at a party and had a great time, and then they decided to do it again.

With each new boxwar party, the suits and structures became more and more carefully prepared until they couldn't fit in their back gardens any more. So they moved the party to a local park on Boxing Day 2002, and people who were having barbecues at the park rushed over to watch them. And that's when they realized that their silly games actually had huge entertainment value.

That was the beginning of Boxwars. They go to the same spot every year on Boxing day.

Today, Boxwars builds complex structures for each themed battle. The sport has expanded beyond Boxing Day — it is now a part of nearly every major festival or event in Australia and around the world.

Boxwars is now run by the Boxwars Council, and has lots of fans across the globe. “One of our main aims is to bring cardboard back to the consumers who deserted it in the first place without realising its true potential,” the official website states. “Cardboard, or the street name ‘box’, we quickly discovered had brilliant properties for engineering. The limits of scale and awesomeness were continuously pushed to greater commanding heights with the development of our skills with this great thing.”

1.What can we infer about Boxwars?

A.America is its birthplace.

B.It is considered to be a waste of money.

C.Its first appearance was on Boxing Day 2002.

D.All the weapons made for it will be destroyed.

2.What is a main purpose mentioned in the text to run Boxwars?

A.To prepare people for possible war.

B.To exercise children’s ability of using hands.

C.To make people realize the use of deserted box.

D.To provide a chance to satisfy people's curiosity.

3.What did Hoss Siegel and Ross Koger think of their idea of Boxwars at first?

A.Significant and popular. B.Fun but foolish.

C.Interesting but expensive. D.Challenging but beneficial.

4.What might be the best title for the text?

A.Boxwars — a creative design B.Boxwars — a popular game

C.Boxwars — a new kind of box D.Boxwars — a fierce competition

Though creating horror stories, King often skips 13 as it petrifies him. In an interview he said, “When I’m writing, I’ll never stop work if the page number is 13 or a multiple of 13; I’ll just keep on typing till I get to a safe number.”

A young man had bought an old house that was in bad shape, but he and his wife believed they could restore it. They immediately went to work. Their goal was to have the old building look best for New Year’s Eve get-together.

Just two days before New Year, however, a storm swept through the area, leaving a hole in the wall of the house. There was obviously no time to repair the damage before New Year. Then, the sad couple attended a local auction(拍卖)that afternoon. One of the items put up for bids was an old gold-and-ivory-colored tablecloth. Seized by an inspiration, the young man was the highest bidder at $ 6.50. His idea was to hang the cloth to cover the ragged hole.

On the day before New Year, it was snowy. As the young man unlocked the house door, he noticed an old woman standing at the bus stop. He knew the bus wouldn’t be there within at least half an hour, so he invited her inside to keep warm.

When the woman walked in and saw the tablecloth, she rushed at it and said excitedly, “It’s mine. It is my tablecloth.” She told the surprised man its history and even showed him her name in one comer of the tablecloth. She and her husband had once lived in Vienna, Austria, and their village was hit by a deadly disease. So they decided to flee to Switzerland, but her husband told her to leave first, saying he had something urgent to deal with. A few days later, it was reported that the bus her husband took fell off the cliff(悬崖)and he was never to be found. Her husband was believed to have died. Touched by her story, the young couple asked about her address, planning to send the tablecloth to her after New Year. As the bus came, she left.

In the candlelight of New Year’s Eve, the tablecloth looked even more beautiful. As the man’s friends left the house, they thanked the man for his arrangement and mentioned how beautiful the house looked.

HOT on the heels of equality

1. They lengthen the legs but shorten the steps; they give the wearer a sense of power but can also be painful to wear; they are worn by working women, but their visual appeal has nothing to do with work.

In Japan, a new social media campaign highlights the issues many women have with this footwear. 2.In May, thousands of women signed an online petition(请愿书)demanding that the government ban the practice.

3.” said the movement founder Yuni Ishikawa, 32 yeas old, in an interview with the Associated Press. “It’s the view that appearances are more important for women at work than for men.”

As early as January, Ishikawa shared her frustration about the unfairness of this dress code on the Instagram social network. In her part-time job as a funeral usher(迎宾员), she was required to wear black heels between 5 and 7cm high.4.. “High heels can cause bunions, blisters and strain the lower back. It’s hard to move, you can’t run and your feet hurt,” Ishikawa wrote in the petition, “5.

It’s a modest dream. Not too long ago, Japanese businessmen were expected to wear neckties, even on hot days. Then, the government encouraged companies to use less air conditioning and reduce electricity use. Men were freed from neckties. “This petition is the first step toward ‘creating a working environment free from unnecessary burdens’.” Ishikawa said.

A.It’s unreasonable.

B.This is about gender discrimination.

C.She would come home with bleeding toes.

D.I hope there will come a day when women don’t have to wear heels in the workplace.

E.High-heeled shoes are loaded with contradictions.

F.They are upset that many companies require women to wear high heels to work.

G.It would be great if the country had a similar kind of campaign about neckties.

When HarmonyOS, the Chinese self-developed operating system for Huawei mobile devices, was released on Aug 9, it quickly became a hot topic on social media. Many believe it not only represents the rise of the country as a tech power, but also pays tribute (致敬) to classical Chinese culture by naming the system “Hongmeng” in Chinese. “Hongmong” is a classical word from the Taoist (道家) text Zhuangzi. In the ancient times of Chinese myths and legends, “Hongmeng” was used to describe the original state of the universe before matter existed.

For HarmonyOS, “Hongmeng” indicates the developers’ aim to make an innovative operating system, unlike any other. Besides “Hongmeng”, Huawei has also registered many of its products under the names of legendary creatures from Chinese mythology, such as “Qilin”for the Kin mobile chip, and “Kunpeng” for the server chip. Many Chinese internet users and media have praised Huawei’s use of these names, “as they stand for Chinese wisdom and ancient people’s imagination and spirit of exploration”, Global Times noted.

In fact, Huawei is not alone in using traditional culture for modern ventures. Ne Zha, the new film, also portrays traditional culture in a modern context. Earlier this month it became the biggest animated movie in China and was called “the glorious light of domestic anime”. The movie is loosely based on the well-known work of classical Chinese mythology The Investiture of the Gods. Unlike his attractive heroic character in previous cinematic works, Ne Zha is shown as a rebellious underdog, who has to overcome hardship and his dark fate to become a hero. Many young Chinese people can relate to Ne Zha, who encourages them to become dream-chasers and fate-changers. As Global Times put it, today by revisiting and incorporating a modern context, “ancient mythology has the power to stir up contemporary imagination in young people”. After all, imagination is the beginning of creation.

1.Why did Huawei name the new system “Hongmeng” in Chinese?

A.Huawei was interested in describing the original state of the universe.

B.Huawei targeted at designing a unique operating system in the world.

C.Huawei aimed to develop classical culture.

D.Huawei was fond of Chinese myths and legends.

2.What was Global Times’ tone about Huawei’s use of the names from ancient cultures?

A.Admirable. B.Indifferent.

C.Neutral. D.Critical.

3.Which statement about the new movie Ne Zha is NOT true?

A.Not all the plot is based on the popular Chinese mythology.

B.The new film Ne Zha means a lot to domestic anime in China.

C.The character of Ne Zha is a failure at first in previous works.

D.The film Ne Zha encourages many youth to achieve dreams.

4.What’s the passage mainly about?

A.Huawei’s new names for its products and their influence.

B.A brief introduction of a new successful movie Ne Zha.

C.Imagination is important and the beginning of creation.

D.Ancient cultures come into new life and inspire imagination.

AIDS may be one of the most undesirable diseases in the world. Luckily, there is now hope for AIDS patients. According to a recent paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Chinese scientists have successfully used CRISPR technology-a method of gene editing-to treat a patient with HIV. While it may not have cured the patient fully, it still represents a huge step forward in fighting the disease.

The patient was a 27-year-old Chinese man who was diagnosed with both AIDS and acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Despite his bleak situation, doctors offered him a glimmer of hope: a bone marrow (骨髓) transplant to treat his cancer and an experimental treatment for his HIV.

They edited the DNA in bone marrow stem cells from a donor before transplanting the cells into the patient. Specifically, the treatment involved using the gene-editing tool CRISPR-Cas9 to delete a gene known as CCRS, which encodes a protein that HIV uses to get inside human cells. Without the gene, HIV is unable to enter cells. Talking about the gene, lead scientist Deng Hongkui told CNN, “After being edited, the cells-and the blood cells they produce-have the ability to resist HIV infection.” Nineteen months after the treatment, the patient’s leukemia was in complete relief and donor cells without CCR5 remained, according to the research paper.

Though the transplant did not cure the man’s HIV, it still showed the effectiveness of gene-editing technology, as there was no indication of any unintended genetic alterations (改变) -a major concern with past gene therapy experiments.

Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in the United States, who was not involved in the study, praised the treatment. “They did a very innovative experiment, it was safe,” he told Live Science. “It should be viewed as a success.”

Deng believes gene-editing technology could “bring a new dawn” to blood-related diseases such as AIDS and sickle cell anemia. Thanks to this new technology, “the goal of a functional cure for AIDS is getting closer and closer,” he said.

1.How did the new treatment fight against HIV?

A.By preventing HIV from entering cells. B.By changing the structure of HIV.

C.By removing a protein that HIV feeds on. D.By identifying and killing HIV.

2.What was the result of the treatment?

A.CCR5 and other genes in the patient’s cells were changed.

B.Some of the patient’s blood cells could resist HIV infection.

C.HIV could no longer get into the patient’s cells.

D.The donor cells without CCR5 disappeared finally.

3.What do we know about the experiment?

A.It has provided an innovative way to cure AIDS patients.

B.It pointed out the problems of gene therapy for AIDS.

C.It’s the first experiment to use gene-editing technology to treat AIDS.

D.It could offer a safe treatment for blood-related diseases.

John B. Goodenough, an engineering professor from the University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry-jointly with M. Stanley Whittingham, a chemistry professor from the State University of New York and Japan’s Akira Yoshino, a professor of Meijo University-for the development of lithium-ion batteries (锂电池). According to the Nobel Committee, the three scientists “have created the right conditions for a wireless and fossil fuel-free society, and so brought the greatest benefit to humankind”.

Goodenough, born in 1922, identified and developed the key materials that can power portable electronics, leading to the wireless revolution. Today, batteries containing Goodenough’s innovations are used worldwide for mobile phones, power tools, laptops, tablets and other wireless devices, as well as electric vehicles.

Goodenough received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Yale University and a doctorate in physics from the university of Chicago. He beat the odds against him, first overcoming dyslexia (阅读困难症) as a child, and then the claim of a teacher who told the doctoral student in his 20s that he had started too late to be successful in physics.

He began his career in 1952 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory, where he laid the groundwork for the development of random-access memory (RAM) for the digital computer. After MIT, Goodenough became a professor and head of the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Oxford where in 1979 he discovered it would be possible to store energy in rechargeable batteries through lithium cobalt oxide (锂钴氧化物).That discovery helped develop the lithium-ion battery. Goodenough joined the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, where his groundbreaking work continued.

At 97 years old, he still continues to push the boundaries of materials science. Despite the lithium-ion battery being well developed and available as a commercial product, it has its limitations. It can’t be charged too fast or overcharged. Goodenough still wants to see some new developments.

“I hope Ut-Austin still keeps me employed,” Goodenough once joked.

1.The underlined phrase “beat the odds” in Paragraph 3 means “   “.

A.become very famous B.face the challenges

C.win the competition D.overcome the difficulties

2.What can we infer from the passage?

A.In MIT, Goodenough made the important discovery leading to the development of the Lithium-ion battery.

B.When he studied for his doctorate in university, not all his teachers encouraged him to be successful.

C.According to the Nobel Committee, Goodenough made the greatest contributions in the discovery.

D.Because of his old age, Goodenough found it difficult to improve the limitations of the lithium-ion battery.

3.What is the best title for the text?

A.The Father of the Lithium-ion Batteries. B.Three Scientists are Awarded the Nobel Prize.

C.Make the World “Good enough”. D.It’s Never too Old to Learn.

On July 5th my little dog Milo escaped from my yard fencing by bars. I suspected it was the fireworks on July 4th which frightened him. He headed for miles to the 1-5 freeway, running in and out of the traffic on it. A young couple spent several hours driven him away by car and on feet and rescued him. Having been noticed my phone number on his collar, they called me. They waited me in a supermarket parking lot after I came to pick him up. If it hasn't been for them, he would sure have been killed on the freeway. Their kind will never be forgotten!

It's October and you know what that means —the return of pumpkin Kit Kats, spooky (幽灵般的,怪异的)costumes for the kids and, of course, homemade Halloween treats. The whole spooky season leads up to tricks on October 31, but Halloween as we know it may be changing.

It's pretty common knowledge that Halloween takes place on October 31. For a lot of parents, it's a night of headaches. Sure enough, parents are fully occupied with an unforgettable Halloween party and have no time to be with the kids. Then the kids have to be dressed and out the door for two hours of trick-or-treating time, which can be tough to manage. Most remarkably, it's hard to pack all the holiday fun into a school night. Eating all that candy right before bed won't make for an easy school day the next morning.

Last year, a nonprofit organization called the Halloween and Costume Association(HCA) began a petition (请愿)to change the date of Halloween. They proposed that Halloween take place on the last Saturday of the month. Thus, parents can have time to celebrate it with their kids.

Though the petition started in 2018, it has really picked up steam this year. Right now, more than 148, 000 people have signed. When a quota(限额) of 150,000 signatures is met, the petition will be delivered to the President of the States, and the government will be making the final call.

Really, the petition isn't about breaking tradition but about making Halloween more family-friendly. It technically makes Halloween longer, so who wouldn't be taking about all-day spooks? If you'd like to sign the petition and make your voice heard before October, you can find it here.

1.What troubles parents most on Halloween?

A.They can't find the kids in the night. B.They have little time to prepare for it.

C.It's hard for kids to behave themselves. D.Halloween may take place on a school day.

2.The petition for Halloween is actually intended to____.

A.help kids gain more freedom B.create more parent-child time

C.allow parents to have a day off D.promote the event to a new level

3.What can be inferred about the petition?

A.No one desired to sign their name at first. B.It has been put aside by the government.

C.The US president thinks nothing of it. D.It has gained increasing favor.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.Break the traditional barriers? B.Make Halloween Much Longer?

C.Celebrate it in another manner? D.Necessary to observe Halloween?
