“Could your weekend lie-in(睡懒觉) kill you?, asked the Daily Mail. It is said in a study that sleeping more at weekends can increase the risk of heart disease. Since most of us change our sleep schedule depending on whether it’s a work or non-work day, it’s an interesting question. Is the lie in really so dangerous? Researchers say that changing sleep pattern cause social jet lag. Is that even a thing?

Changing our sleeping hours causes the effect of crossing a time zone-it makes us sleepy the day. People who changed their sleep patterns were also more likely to gain weight during the study and more suited to going to bed and waking late because of the change of their biological clock. They were more at risk of these changes than earlier sleepers and risers. The study also shows an association switching sleep patterns and changes in some blood results. It does not show that anyone’s developing heart disease was because they had lie-ins.

Jim Horne, one of the professors of the Sleep Research Center, says the concept of social jet lag is likely to feed our anxiety about sleep, so we should really stop worrying so much and have a limited weekend lie-in. Worry is bad for sleep and we naturally compensate for not getting enough rest in the week by lying-in at weekends, so we shouldn’t stop doing it. However, we should limit the time.

Studies show that if you accumulate a five-hour sleep debt during the week, then you only need one and a half hours of extra sleep on your days off to make up for it. It would be a shame to be scared of lie-in. Studies of sleep and risk factors for heart disease can struggle to tell between poor sleep causing stress and stress disrupting sleep. Sleep is the test for the state of one’s health, and the most important thing that happens when you don’t get enough of it is that you feel sleepy.

1.What’s the consequence of switching sleep patterns?

A.You’ll feel more energetic.

B.Some blood results will change adversely.

C.You will become earlier sleepers and risker.

D.The chance of putting on weight will enhance.

2.What does the underline phrase “doing it” refer to?

A.Lying-in. B.Worrying.

C.Limited Sleeping. D.Compensating for the limit.

3.What is Horne’s attitude to the weekend lie-in?

A.Negative. B.Doubtful.

C.Ambiguous. D.Supportive.

4.What can we infer from the text?

A.The sleep debt should be paid off completely.

B.The weekend lie-in is more healthy than harmful.

C.Social jet lag occurs when you don’t get enough sleep.

D.Poor sleep may result from and cause stress in turn.

China’s Scariest Outdoor Attractions

As the world’s most populous nation with the world’s second-biggest economy, China is finding new and increasingly adventurous ways to attract and entertain tourists.

Fuxi Mountain, Henan

Guinness World Records receives 2,000 applications from China a year -- more than any other country. And the latest potential record-breaker is the 3,000-ton glass-and-steel skywalk at Fuxi Mountain in Henan province, central China. Visitors who dare walk on this U-shaped bridge can look straight through the glass to the valley floor about 360 meters below. The new bridge extends 30 meters beyond the cliff edge, trumping other U-shaped wonders such as Arizona’s Grand Canyon Skywalk over the epic US gorge.

Shilinxia, Beijing

32.8 meters over the edge of a 396-meter valley, the Shilinxia Viewing Platform stretches a whole 11 meters farther than Grand Canyon Skywalk. It’s constructed with titanium alloy, the material used in airplanes and space shuttles, so it can apparently hold a maximum load of 150 tons and 2,000 people. It’s a hefty 1.5-hour hike from the valley floor to the platform. Or taking the cable car up is an option.

East Taihang, Hebei

The glass walkway at the East Taihang Scenic Area in northern Hebei Province gained popularity last year when video emerged showing a terrified tour guide falling to his hands and knees as the glass apparently started cracking under his weight. Shattered glass fragments were placed underneath solid panels to make the walkway look and sound as though it’s cracking when trodden upon. While the unique walkway of Taihang Mountain is therefore safe to traverse, tourists were quick to point out that at 1,180 meters above sea level, it could still induce thrill.

1.To arrive at the platform in Shilinxia, you can         .

A.walk B.take cars

C.take cable cars D.both A and C

2.Which of the following attractions is likely to break the world record?

A.Grand Canyon Skywalk

B.Walkway at East Taihang

C.U-shaped bridge at Fuxi Mountain

D.Viewing platform at Shilinxia

3.What do we know about the tourist attractions mentioned in the passage?

A.Travelers won’t feel frightened since the glass walkway at Taihang isn’t cracking.

B.Both attractions at Fuxi Mountain and Shilinxia extend farther than Grand Canyon skywalk.

C.The viewing platform at Shilinxia can hold more than 2000 people.

D.The material used in airplanes is applied to the glass walkway at East Taihang.

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.

Growing up, I wanted to be just like my mom. Kind and caring, she always seemed to make people comfortable in her presence. For years she was a volunteer in our community. I loved going to the local nursing home to help with her until I hit my preteen years. Suddenly, I was too caught up in my adolescent world to worry about helping others.

One particular summer day when I was twelve, Mom came into my room and told me to get up and meet her at the car. I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin everything? Eventually, I made my way outside. I imagined the lake water cooling my skin. Annoyed, I climbed into the car and slammed the door shut. I sat in silence, too upset to make a conversation.

“Tasha, would you like to know where we are going?” Mom asked calmly.

“I guess. . . ” I murmured under my breath.

“Sweetheart, we are going to a children's shelter, I have been there before and I think it would benefit you”she explained.

I felt a knot slowly form in my stomach. How was I supposed to help there?

When we reached the shelter, I was rather surprised. It was a large white Victorian home. As we approached the large front porch, wind bells played a calming tune while trees and blossoms welcomed us. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.

Mom rang the doorbell. The door flew open and we were led to the front room , where all of the children were playing. Toys were spread out across the floor. I noticed a baby whose body was scarred with wounds. The majority of the children had noticeable physical scars(伤疤)such as cuts, scratches and bums. What a terrible life they had had before they moved here! My heart sank.

While plenty of birds-such as swallows, hawks and hummingbirds-migrate (迁徙) during the day, the majority of land birds travel at night.

Migration at night has at least three advantages. 1. Secondly, the air in the atmosphere is usually more stable than during the day. Lastly the air is cooler at night. A migrating bird produces a huge amount of heat that needs to be released. Most of the heat is lost from the    unfeathered legs. 2.

Nighttime migrators include sparrows, warblers, flycatchers, thrushes, orioles and cuckoos. Most of them don't live in vast open places.3.They aren't the best fliers, so they need the thick coverage to avoid enemies.

But flying at night is becoming more dangerous than it used to be.4.A well-lit high- rise can kill hundreds of migrating birds in a single night, an issue that has started to attract more public concern. In cities like New York, Chicago and Houston, some skyscrapers and other landmarks now have "lights out" programs during key bird migration times in the fall and spring.

5.A protein called cryptochrome, which is sensitive to blue light 9 is thought to be the key to making this happen. Cryptochromes from migratory birds have evolved to require less light and to allow their recognition of blue light to sense and respond to magnetic fields (磁场).

A. Instead, they live in the woods and other sheltered habitats.

B. Birds need the heat to keep warm and maintain a good state.

C. Birds do not have to worry about attacks from dangerous birds.

D. Only when there is enough light can they get signals to migrate.

E. Migrating birds use Earth's magnetic field to help them navigate.

F. Lights on buildings and towers confuse birds, causing them to crash.

G. The colder the air temperature is, the more quickly that heat can be released.

As we reflect on the evolution of fitness over the centuries, and the emergence of a well- organized and growing "fitness” market and industry, it is well to ask ourselves: what have we lost, and what have we gained?

Obviously, much good has come out of these recent developments: there's widespread awareness of the importance of regular exercise, nearly every community has a gym or fitness club where people can go or pay to work out, and we understand more about how the human body works.Yet despite the many health and fitness methods, programs, and resources, the general population has never been so physically sedentary (久坐的)and out-of-shape. A recent World Health Organization report indicates that life expectancy (寿命)in the U. S. dropped for the first time since 1993. The health of modem people is declining, despite highly advanced medical technologies and the booming health and fitness industry.

How could that be? A large part of it is motivation. People are simply not as motivated to move their body and get healthy as they were in the past. We live in a society where the inability to operate one's body in a practical and effective manner is no longer an embarrassing condition. The fitness industry, no matter how good each new program claims to be, has failed to get the majority of people to value, practice, and enjoy physical exercise.

So, should we expect the answer to this dilemma to come from even more varied, or more technologically advanced programs and equipment? Or will the solution come from a different mindset, a simpler approach and practice, and overall a new culture?

1.What does the author tell us about fitness industry in paragraph 2?

A.It provides better technology.

B.It is supported by most people.

C.It brings about positive effects.

D.It costs people too much money.

2.What is the main reason why people fail to do physical exercise?

A.Not enough equipment. B.Lack of inner drive.

C.Misguided instructions. D.Embarrassing living conditions.

3.What does the author seem to agree with?

A.Change attitudes to fitness. B.Rely on standard practice.

C.Seek more potential customers. D.Turn to more advanced programs.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.Lost in fitness B.Misunderstanding about fitness

C.Evolution of fitness D.Importance of fitness

Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) are an integral part of sea life and sustain it by providing shelter and habitat to various organisms. They also supply and recycle nutrients as well as enable a growing fish population, along with other species, for a healthy and diverse ecosystem. However, the rise in average water temperatures due to climate change has resulted in more frequent and longtime coral bleaching (白化现象) events that damage their health, causing fish and other sea species to abandon them.

In order to restore this delicate ecosystem, scientists from the UK and Australia conducted a study that involved using loudspeakers underwater near damaged coral reefs to make them sound healthy and attract fish, potentially kick-starting the natural recovery process of coral reefs and their dependent life forms. The location for this experiment was the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea, found alongside the east coast of Queensland, Australia. The site is noted to have the largest coral reef system in the world.

“Healthy coral reefs are remarkably noisy places-the crackle of snapping shrimp and the whoops and grunts of fish. Young fish concentrate on these sounds when they're looking for a place to settle,” said Steve Simpson, study co-author and a professor at the University of Exeter, UK.

By using loudspeakers to copy such sounds, parts of dead coral reefs were found to attract twice as many fish, compared to places where no sounds were played. “These returning fish, are crucial for coral reefs to function as healthy ecosystems. Boosting fish populations in this way could help to kick-start natural recovery processes, preventing the damage we're seeing on many coral reefs around the world,” said lead author, Tim Gordon.

1.What causes the phenomenon of coral bleaching?

A.Diverse species. B.Noise pollution.

C.Fishing industry. D.Climbing temperatures.

2.What approach is introduced to recover the coral reefs?

A.Removing damaged coral reefs. B.Using loudspeakers to keep fish away.

C.Building new homes for sea species. D.Playing certain sounds to appeal to fish.

3.Why are Steve Simpson's words quoted?

A.To provide some findings of the study. B.To show the progress of the experiment.

C.To explain reasons for the new approach. D.To give another solution to the problem.

4.What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.The attempts are in vain. B.Natural recovery is impossible.

C.Initial success has been achieved. D.The coral reefs have returned to normal.

The sound that woke Damian Languell at 8:15 in the morning was so loud he assumed it came from inside his house in Wade, Maine. As he got up to investigate, he heard another sound, this one coming most definitely from outside. Looking out of his bedroom window, he noticed a tree enveloped in smoke about 500 yards away. A car wrapped around the tree's base, its engine on fire.

Grabbing buckets of water, he and his wife ran to the crash site. Up close, the accident looked worse. The car was split nearly in two, and the tree was where the driver's seat ought to have been, as if planted there. No one should have survived this crash, and yet there was 20- year-old Quintin Thompson, his terrified face pressed against the driver's side window, in visible pain.

Languell tried putting out the fire with his buckets of water but failed. When the flames got into the front seats, he knew he had to get the young man out. So Languell opened the car's back door and climbed in. Using a pocket knife he'd brought with him, he cut through Thompson's seat belt. Now that Thompson was free, Languell pulled him out, and dragged him to safety before the entire car was in flames.

It is empathy that drove Languell to help, just as he said, "My heart goes out to Thompson. When you are that close to that level of hurt, you feel it so directly." For his heroic action, Languell was added to the list of real-life heroes changing the world.

1.Where was the first sound actually from?

A.A house on fire. B.A car crash.

C.The bedroom window. D.The basement.

2.What do we know about Quintin Thompson?

A.He saved his car from fire. B.He was successfully rescued.

C.He remained calm all the time. D.He was capable of helping himself out.

3.Which of the following best explains "empathy” underlined in the last paragraph?

A.Honesty. B.Wisdom. C.Sympathy. D.Responsibility.

4.Which words can best describe Damian Languell?

A.Daring and generous. B.Caring and grateful.

C.Courageous and noble. D.Ambitious and reliable.

In our modern world, when something wears out, we throw it away and buy a new one. The problem is that countries around the world have growing mountains of rubbish because people are throwing out more rubbish than ever before.

How do the society become a throwaway one? First of all, it is now easier to replace an object than to spend time and money repairing it. Thanks to modern manufacturing (制造业) and technology, companies are able to produce products quickly and inexpensively. Products are plentiful and cheap.

Another cause is our love of disposable (一次性的) products. As busy people, we are always looking for ways to save time and make our lives easier. Companies produce thousands of different kinds of disposable products: paper plates, plastic cups, and cameras, to name a few.

Our appetite for new products also contributes to the problem. We are addicted to buying new things. Advertisements persuade us that newer is better and that we will be happier with the latest products. The result is that we throw away useful possessions to make room for new ones.

All around the world, we can see the consequences of this throwaway lifestyle. Mountains of rubbish just keep getting bigger. To decrease the amount of rubbish and to protect the environment, more governments are requiring people to recycle materials. However, this is not enough to solve our problem.

Maybe there is another way out. We need to repair our possessions instead of throwing them away. We also need to rethink our attitudes towards spending. Repairing our possessions and changing our spending habits may be the best way to reduce the amount of rubbish and take care of our environment.

Many doctors, for example, don’t have enough training to correctly interpret what they see.3.With Ozcan's mobile phone app, health workers can take a special photo of a blood sample and send it to a central computer at a hospital. The computer will then automatically interpret the photo and send a diagnosis back in a few minutes.

4.His technology only requires a mobile phone and an Internet connection. As more than four billion people already have cell phones, the cost of establishing the diagnostic system is fairly low.

By inventing a medical tool that uses existing technology---mobile phones---Ozcan has developed a medical tool that is both practical and economical. Therefore, it can be effectively almost anywhere.5.

A. Another reason that Ozcan's invention is important is that it is inexpensive.

B. Even though you may only have a simple infection (感染), you might die because of the delay.

C. People are trying to reduce the cost of this new medical tool.

D. Ozcan's simple, cost-effective tool might just save millions of lives around the world.

E. This tool has become much more popular all around the world.

F. You become very sick and must wait days until a mobile medical unit arrives to help.

G. As a result, they may diagnose illnesses incorrectly.

In 1800, only three percent of the world's population lived in cities. Only one city — Beijing — had a population of over a million. Most people lived in rural areas, and never saw a city in their lives. In 1900, just a hundred years later, roughly 150 million people lived in cities, and the world’s ten largest cities all had populations exceeding one million. By 2000, the number of city dwellers exceeded three billion; and in 2008, the world's population crossed a tipping point — more than half of the people on Earth lived in cities. By 2050, that could increase to over two-thirds. Clearly, humans have become an urban species.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, many people viewed cities negatively — crowded, dirty environments full of disease and crime. They feared that as cities got bigger, living conditions would worsen. In recent decades, however, attitudes have changed. Many experts now think urbanization (城市化) is good news, offering solutions to the problems of Earth’s growing population.

Harvard economist Edward Glaeser, author of The Victory of the Cir, is one such person. Glaeser argues that cities are very productive because “the absence of space between people” reduces the cost of transporting goods, people, and ideas. While the flow of goods has always been important to cities, what is most important today is the flow of ideas. Successful cities enable people to learn from each other easily, and attract and reward smart people with higher wages.

Another urbanization supporter is environmentalist Stewart Brand. Brand believes cities help the environment because they allow haft of the world’s population to live on about four percent of the land. This leaves more space for open country, such as farmland. City dwellers also have less impact per person on the environment than people in the countryside. Their roads, sewers, and power lines need fewer resources to build and operate. City apartments require less energy to heat, cool, and light. Most importantly, people in cities drive less so they produce fewer greenhouse gases per person.

So it’s a mistake to see urbanization as evil; it’s a natural part of development. The challenge is how to manage the growth.

It’s a common belief that the roles actors play might somehow reflect their true personalities. It’s usually not true, but British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 34, is an exception.

Just like Fleabag, the character she played in the comedy-drama series of the same name, Waller-Bridge feels that her life is a mess. “It’s just really wonderful to know that a dirty and messed up woman can make it to the Emmys,” she said. She may be “messed up”, but Variety magazine calls her an “all-around icon”.

Last month, Waller-Bridge took home three Emmy awards for her work on Fleabag — best writing in a comedy series, best lead actress, and best comedy series.

Her success is partly because of her family. Waller-Bridge was brought up in a free environment. Her mother always told her, “You can be whatever you want if you imagine it.” So Waller-Bridge broke all the rules about what a “good” girl should do. “Our laws and moral codes don’t apply — she lives without fear of consequence,” The Sun noted.

That fearlessness extends to being authentic (真实的) in her writing and acting. Unlike the can-do heroines and strong, successful women in many TV dramas, Waller-Bridge shows a flawed but real character. The character Fleabag was a screw-up who always found a way to say or do the wrong thing. “It resonated with the lives of stressed-out women everywhere in reality — doing their best to find balance in their lives,” a viewer wrote on US movie website.

Villanelle in Killing Eve, another hit TV series developed by Waller-Bridge, was a little bit violent but showed no interest for the rules others created, which make many people see themselves in her.

“People have been scared to write characters like these. But I think, now, women are so relieved to have this new template (样板). And, aren’t we all a bit of everything?” Waller-Bridge said in an interview with Indian Express.

With such courage and sincerity, Waller-Bridge is, without a doubt, a “golden girl” in Hollywood, Australian news website The New Daily commented.

1.What is the article mainly about?

A.What helped Waller-Bridge succeed in comedy.

B.The popularity of the comedy-drama series Fleabag.

C.What inspired Waller-Bridge to take up writing and acting.

D.The similarities between Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the character she plays on Fleabag.

2.How did Waller-Bridge’s parents influence her growth?

A.They pushed her to follow social codes.

B.They constantly encouraged her to be herself.

C.They always reminded her to be curious and fearless.

D.They taught her to write and act when she was young.

3.The underlined phrase “resonated with” in Paragraph 7 probably means “__________”.

A.messed up B.paid attention to

C.had great effects on D.was in agreement with

4.What do Villanelle in Killing Eve and Fleabag in Fleabag have in common?

A.Both are courageous and organized.

B.Both are much alike in character.

C.Both successfully find balance in their lives.

D.Both are rebellious but strong and successful.

Grandma Pugh sized up the baby like a pig at the farmers’ market. There was a pause and then she pronounced. “He’s got nice long legs.” She clapped her hands once in approval. But then she frowned and leaned forward. Everyone waited anxiously. The baby had opened his eyes and was staring up. “But those cross eyes won’t do,” she declared firmly, shaking her head in disappointment.

That had been Freddie Pilcher’s first meeting with Grandma Pugh. Since then, ten years had passed. Much to his grandmother’s satisfaction, she’d been proven right about the boy’s legs. He was a regular beanpole. Grandma Pugh had also been correct about his eyes. Freddie had been wearing glasses to correct his vision since he was two years old. His current pair was thick, and cheap-looking, but at least he could see.

Freddie not only had poor eyesight, but he was also clumsy. He wasn’t good at schoolwork either. But there was one thing that the boy was good at and it was all on account of the length of his legs. He could jump.

Freddie was the best jumper in school. Not only could he leap the furthest but also the highest. At break times, he entertained the little ones by leaping over the school wall into Mrs. Hobson’s garden and then rapidly jumping back. She had been up to see the head teacher several times because somebody had been crushing her vegetables.

It was badgers (), Freddie suggested, when questioned by Miss Harpy—definitely badgers; no doubt about it. His dad had terrible problems with badgers. Only last week he had lost two rows of carrots. Freddie had woken one night and heard them tearing through the garden, a whole herd of them. They rooted up the lawn and dug up the vegetables. Terrible things, badgers. All the other children nodded their heads wisely. There was a moment’s pause in Class Three as everyone thought about the dreadful damage that badgers could do.

1.What do we know about Grandma Pugh?

A.She was present at the birth of baby Freddie.

B.She was unwilling to listen to the ideas of others.

C.She valued physical appearance over all other things.

D.She was a figure of great importance in the family.

2.Which of the following best describes Freddie’s physical appearance?

A. B.

C. D.

3.Why does Freddie talk about badgers in the final paragraph?

A.To explain the cause of the damage.

B.To warn the class about their danger.

C.To make up an excuse for the cause of the damage.

D.To describe what happened to his father’s garden.

Getting up early has been regarded as a good habit since ancient times. Many years ago, people thought that if we went to bed early and got up early, we would be energetic the whole day. So, getting up early is of great importance to us all.

In fact, morning is the best time of a day. In the morning, the air is the freshest and people are usually in the best conditions. Many of us may have the experiences that we memorize some things more quickly and accurately in the morning than at any other time of the day.

Additionally, if we get up early and do some morning exercise or only take a short walk in the morning, without doubt we can build our bodies and become much healthier. That is why many people getting up early do physical exercise year after year.

We will also have enough time to make a plan and get ready for our work or study of the day if we get up early. For example, if everyone in the family gets up early, we will have enough time to prepare the breakfast for the whole family. Children will have enough time to catch the school bus, and husband will never forget to change his dirty shirt. Everything is in order. What a harmonious scene! However, if we get up late, we will probably have to do everything in a great hurry, making it in a mess.

Let us remember getting up early is a good habit. If you are a late riser, you may find it difficult to form the habit of getting up early. You will have to make efforts to do so. If you want to get up early, sleeping earlier the night before expect to be successful. Besides, you can set your alarm clock or ask someone whom you know will be awake at that time to call you. If you stick to getting up early every day, you will certainly benefit a lot from it.

What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange, red? 1.. Do you prefer grays and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You tend to be pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously studying the meaning of color preference, as well as the effect that colors have on human beings. 2.. If you happen to love brown, you did so, as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

3.. A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. 4.. A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides(自杀) than any other bridge in the area — until it was repainted green. The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply. Perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.

We’ve heard of robots and AIArtificial Intelligencetaking human jobs, but I bet mayors(市长)don’t really think their jobs can be threatened any time soon. They were wrong, and the AI running for the mayor of a Tokyo district was clear proof of that.

AI can’t legally run for high-ranking public management positions yet, but one mayoral candidate from Tama City, Tokyo, intended to maximize the use of artificial intelligence in running city affairs. He was running his campaign (竞选运动) as “AI Mayor”. Basically, he was suggesting replacing human public officials with AI and having them collect city data and create fair and balanced policies that will benefit everyone.

“For the first time in the world, AI will run in an election,” human candidate Michihito Matsuda announced on Twitter. “Artificial Intelligence will change Toma City. With the birth of an AI Mayor, we will conduct balanced politics.”

The AI Mayor was campaigning very much like its human competitors. Posters were shown all over Tama City and campaign trucks were blaring out(大声鸣响)promises of an AI utopia (乌托邦)and asking for support.

Some people called Michihito Matsuda’s campaign a stunt (噱头), as a human would still be the one legally in charge. However, others said that they were excited about the future of AI running things in the background, adding that it had to be a better choice.

1.What’s the advantage of the AI mayor according to Michihito Matsuda?

A.Maximizing the use of AI. B.Replacing human officials.

C.Creating balanced policies. D.Bringing him beneficial effects.

2.How will AI run for the mayor?

A.It will abolish many old policies.

B.It will ask for support on the Internet.

C.It will make public speeches, dressed like a human.

D.It will compete similarly to human competitors.

3.What’s the citizens’ attitude toward Michihito Matsuda’s campaign?

A.They believe AI will win. B.All consider it to be tricky.

C.It is supposed to be a failure definitely. D.Some think it’s worthy of expectation.

4.What is the best title for the passage?

A.AI Runs for the Mayor. B.The Advantages of AI.

C.AI Replaces Human in Management. D.The Patterns of AI Management.

Now, more than ever before, people are wondering what life is all about, and what it is for. Seeking material success is beginning to trouble large numbers of people around the world. They feel that the long-hours work culture to make more money to buy more things is eating up their lives, leaving them very little time or energy for family or pastimes. Many are turning to other ways of living and downshifting is one of them.

Six percent of workers in Britain took the decision to downshift last year. One couple who downshifted is Daniel and Liz. They used to work in central London. He was a newspaper reporter and she used to work for an international bank. They would go to work by train every day from their large house in the suburbs, leaving their two children with a nanny(保姆). Most evenings Daniel wouldn't get home until eight or nine o'clock, and nearly twice a month he would have to fly to New York for meetings

They both earned a large amount of money but began to feel that life was passing them by.

Nowadays, they run a farm in the mountains of Wales, I always wanted to have a farm here, says Daniel, “and we took almost a year to make the decision to downshift. It's taken some getting used to, but it's been worth it. We have to think twice now about spending money in car repairs and we no longer have any holidays. However, I think it's made us stronger as a family, and the children are a lot happier.”

Liz, however, is not quite sure. “I used to enjoy my job, even though it was hard work and long hours. I'm not really a country girl, but I suppose I'm gradually getting used to looking after the animals. One thing I do like, though, is being able to see more of my children. My advice for other people wanting to do the same is not to think about it too much or you might not do it at all

More and more people like bicycling and it is no surprise. It is fun, healthy and good for the environment.

Maybe that's why there are 1.4 billion bicycles and only 400 million cars on roads worldwide today. Bikes can take you almost anywhere, and there is no oil cost! Get on a bicycle and ride around your neighborhood. You may discover something new all around you. Stopping and getting off a bike is easier than stopping and getting out of your car. You can bike to work and benefit(受益)from the enjoyable without polluting the environment. You don't even have to ride all the way.

Folding(折叠) bikes work well for people who ride the train. Just fold the bike and take it with you. You can do the same on an airplane. A folding bike can be packed in a suitcase. You can also take a common bike with you when you fly. But be sure to look for information by getting on airline websites. Not all airlines are bicycle-friendly to travelers.
