I’m writing to tell you something about the discussion on if it is necessary for senior one student to take the one-week military training. Students’ views on it varies from person to person.

Some held that it is necessary. On one hand, it can improve students’ teamwork spirit, who will play an important part in their life and study. On the other hand, it is no doubt that they become stronger physically and mentally through the training.

Besides, the others have opposite views. They think it is waste of time. Meanwhile, students get burnt easy without any protection in the sun.

As far as I’m concerned about, though we may feel tired during the training, it goes without saying that the one-week military training is meaningful.

Happiness, above all else in the world, is what people seek. They want to have happiness, and want to know they have a lot of it. But happiness, like air or water, is a _______ thing to grasp in one’s hand. So how does one know if they have it? Is it just a _______? And if someone does not feel happy, how can they go about _______ that feeling?

Happiness is not _______ by material wealth. A new car or television, a waterskiing boat or a three-level house is not _______ to joyful feelings. They are status symbols, surely, but they don’t _______ a happy life. People who have wealth can be _______, just as the poor can be living joyfully. Possessions can be _______ and lost, and with that comes fear. And fear _______ leads to happiness.

So if it isn’t “stuff” that gains happiness, then what can? Well, ________ can. People need to have a sense of purpose. These people often have a feeling of satisfaction. They sense they were put on this planet for a ________. To each person, this purpose can be ________. Maybe they were meant to teach. Maybe they were meant to learn. And goals can be ________ things, like taking an extra moment each day to breathe. But having ________ in life, a feeling of moving forward, can make people feel happy.

But taking that forward motion too ________ can be a bad thing. Success at the expense of everything else leads to the ________ of happiness. Life requires ________. And people who understand there is a balance between work and ________ are more in tune with the universe and, therefore, better able to achieve happiness. Life with a bit of humor is more ________. So people can be happy if they have something to strive for and something to ________ about.

Remarkable Ways to Push Yourself Harder

Deep inside us, we know that hard work is the key to success. 1. Here are the rules that you can also apply to make yourself work really hard.

Practice working hard.

2. Therefore, if you want to be a hard worker, you must practice working hard. Practice waking up early, practice doing a lot of work, and practice working more hours. One day you will wake up and realize that you are a hard worker.

3.

Many hard workers always have a large purpose that forces them to work. Don’t just think of buying a car or a big house because this is not a purpose strong enough to push you forward. An example of a big purpose is deciding that you are working hard so that you bring change in the lives of your friends, family, and neighborhood. A strong purpose always involves bringing a large positive change in any particular setting.

Surround yourself with hard workers.

4. But if you surround yourself with hardworking people, you will find yourself working hard towards your goal. Avoid friends who just want to have fun all the time. This type of friends will always discourage you when you attempt to work hard. Therefore, always surround yourself with go-getters.

Read and watch inspirational materials.

You can also push yourself harder through reading and watching inspirational material.

5. These materials make you work hard because they remove discouragement and assure you that you will never fail if you push yourself to the limit.

A.Have a strong purpose.

B.Find a great goal to overcome your laziness.

C.Like other skills, one has to practice it to perfect it.

D.Inspirational material makes you believe in yourself.

E.However, we always find it difficult to push ourselves harder.

F.Motivational books and videos encourage you to work harder.

G.If you surround yourself with lazy people, you will also be lazy.

Researchers discovered a hidden continent on Earth, but it's not Atlantis. They found it while reconstructing the evolution of Mediterranean region's complex geology, which rises with mountain ranges and dips with seas from Spain to Iran.

The continent is called Greater Adria. It's the size of Greenland and it broke off from North Africa, only to be buried under Southern Europe about 140 million years ago. And chances are you've been there without even knowing it. “Forget Atlantis,” said Douwe, study author and professor at Utrecht University. “Without realizing it, vast numbers of tourists spend their holiday each year on the lost continent of Greater Adria.” This area is called Adria by geologists, so the researchers for this study refer to the previously undiscovered continent as Greater Adria.

Most of Greater Adria was underwater, covered by shallow seas, coral reefs and sediments (沉淀物). The sediments formed rocks and those rocks became mountain ranges in these areas the Alps, the Apennines, the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. The researchers found that Greater Adria started to become its own continent about 240 million years ago.

This isn't the first time a lost continent has been found. In January 2017, researchers announced the discovery of a lost continent left over from the supercontinent Gondwana, which began breaking apart 200 million years ago. The leftover piece, which was covered in lava ( ), is now under Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean. And in September 2017, a different research team found the lost continent of Zealandia through ocean drilling in the South Pacific. It’s two-thirds of a mile beneath the sea.

Greater Adria isn’t the first lost continent to be found. But if research in past years shows anything, it likely won’t be the last discovery.

1.How did the researchers find Greater Adria?

A.They found it accidentally.

B.They got inspired by the tales of Atlantis.

C.They discovered it after years of seaching.

D.They followed the steps of exploring mountain ranges.

2.What do we know about Greater Adria?

A.It is hidden under the sea level.

B.It is much smaller than Greenland.

C.It has existed for about 240 million years.

D.It has been known to many tourists before.

3.Why are the discoveries mentioned in Paragraph 4?

A.To describe how the researchers explored continents.

B.To show some other lost continents have been found.

C.To prove they are closely related to Greater Adria.

D.To explain the reason why Greater Adria got buried.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.Atlantis Discovered Finally

B.Undersea World Explored

C.A Hidden Mountain Undiscovered

D.A Lost Continent Found Under Europe

Would you give your Social Security Number to the clerk at the grocery store? Of course not, right? Yet, if you’re like most people, you wouldn’t hesitate to give out a different, but equally important number to the same person.

Experts now say that your cellphone number may be more pivotal than any other personal information in the eyes of spammers (垃圾邮件发送者) and identity thieves. In other words, instead of handing it out, you should guard that cellphone number with your life.

Today, your cellphone number will likely be with you for a very long time. That means if spammers get your cellphone number, it will be much harder to get rid of them. It also means that over the years, your cellphone number will be linked to a lot of personal information—from contact lists to bank card numbers, all information that hackers (黑客) would love to get their hands on.

A few years ago, German security researcher Karsten Nohl showed in an experiment what he could obtain using only a person’s cellphone number. California Congressman Ted Lieu was given a new cellphone for a day and Nohl was given that cellphone number. Using just that number, Nohl was able to find Lieu’s location and movements throughout Los Angeles, read his emails and text messages, and record phone calls between Lieu and his staff. And Nohl did all of this from his office in Berlin using just a cellphone number.

Still think it’s a good idea to post your number on a noticeboard?

It’s safe to assume that Nohl is an expert when it comes to hacking, but even the ordinary thief can use your cellphone number to cause harm to you. When you sign up for an account online, you usually provide your email address and a password. But if you forget that password, many of these companies will send you a password retrieval code (检码) via your cellphone. Let’s say you post something for sale online and you include your name, email, and cellphone number. You’ve now given a potential thief everything he needs to hack into any of your online accounts. Therefore, it just makes sense to protect yourself by guarding that number as closely as you would guard any other personal information.

1.What does the underlined word “pivotal” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?

A.Accessible. B.Familiar.

C.Vital. D.Manageable.

2.What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?

A.Why people need to take care of their cellphone numbers.

B.Why people seldom change their cellphone numbers.

C.How to protect our personal information.

D.How to get rid of spammers.

3.What did Karsten Nohl’s experiment intend to prove?

A.Nohl is a real expert in hacking.

B.It’s necessary to fight against hackers.

C.Lieu’s new cellphone has powerful functions.

D.Hacking information via cellphone numbers is not hard.

4.What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.It’s a good idea to sell something online.

B.It’s risky to post your cellphone numbers online.

C.It’s necessary to register several accounts online.

D.It’s common for people to forget their passwords.

In the fall of 2017, when Paula Aldridge needed to get a job, she found herself at a crossroads. The 50-year-old wasn’t sure she would ever work again, due to health issues.

But Aldridge’s life and career journey started to turn around after she connected with Goodwill of Central Iowa’s skills training programs. These programs are tailored to help people develop the kind of specific, real-world skills they need to get and keep a job, through a combination of detailed instruction and hands-on experience.

When Aldridge first connected with Goodwill in September 2017, she was dealing with several barriers to immediate employment. Transportation was challenging, as she didn’t have a driver’s license or own a car. Aldridge also had a limited work history with long employment gaps (间断) , meaning she missed out on learning important skills, such as working a credit card machine. On top of that, her physical health issues were also a problem.

According to Kayleigh Duff, a career specialist at Goodwill of Central Iowa, the biggest barrier Aldridge had to overcome was from within. “She said outwardly that she had all of this confidence and that she knew how strong a worker she was, but I don’t think she truly believed it herself.”

Thankfully, Aldridge had plenty of people on her side to provide motivation and guidance. She originally started off in the food service training program but was eager to enter the retail (零售) skills program, since she had previously worked at the Salvation Army and Subway. When Aldridge mentioned her interest in retail, Duff recognized that her go-getting attitude would be a perfect match for the program.

The seven-week retail skills training is a systematic program combining classroom instruction with on- the-job experience at a Goodwill store. As Aldridge progressed and graduated from the program, she became more confident in her abilities.

Duff said it was great to see how Aldridge grew into the devoted, driven worker she is today. “She has this strong desire, this longing to succeed. And she knows that she’s able to do that, although she has fallen short in the past.”

1.What can be learned about Goodwill’s training programs?

A.They combine theory with practice.

B.They guarantee a good job for participants.

C.They are designed mainly for the unemployed.

D.They were established in the autumn of 2017.

2.What was the biggest problem Aldridge faced according to Duff?

A.Poor health. B.Poor working skills.

C.A lack of confidence. D.A lack of a driver’s license.

3.Why did Aldridge change her training program?

A.She wanted to attend a more systematic program.

B.She wanted to gain some hands-on experience.

C.She was more interested in retail.

D.She followed Duff’s advice.

4.What’s the main idea of the text?

A.A 50-year-old devotes herself to Goodwill.

B.Goodwill helps a 50-year-old turn her life around.

C.Goodwill training programs spring up around the world.

D.Success is closely linked to appropriate training programs.

The past week was by no means an ordinary week, 1..

This Monday, the topic was brought up again by my parents during dinner. 2.. Seeing my hesitant look, Mom patted me on my shoulder and said that I still had enough time to think about it, her smile encouraging me to do more research.

Later that evening, I turned to the Internet for help. 3.. As a science student, law could be a good choice. Business and computer science were also attracting me.     Most people aren’t good at creative problem solving for two reasons: (1) They are not trained in how to be creative. (2) They don’t understand group strength well enough to harness (驾驭) their power to maximize group creativity.

A key element of creativity is applying existing knowledge to a new problem. The more people getting involved in solving it, the more knowledge there is to work on it. Unfortunately, research shows that the traditional brainstorming methods fail to achieve that goal. When groups get together to exchange ideas, they actually come up with fewer ideas overall than if they each had worked alone.

To fix this problem, you should consider the two stages of group problem-solving: divergence (分散) and convergence (集中). Divergence happens when the group considers as many different potential solutions as possible. Convergence happens when the various proposed solutions are evaluated and reduced to a smaller set of candidate solutions to the current problem.

The essential principle of group creativity is that individuals working alone diverge, whereas group members working together converge. In groups, once a member states a potential solution, that makes others think about the problem similarly. That is why groups working together diverge less than individuals working alone.

Therefore, be aware of when to diverge and when to converge. For example, early in the problem-solving process, have group members work alone to write down statements describing the problem. Then get them back to discuss their descriptions. The group discussion will lead everyone to accept one or a small number of these statements to work on — this is healthy convergence.

When starting to generate solutions, you again want divergence. Have people work alone to start. Then collect people’s initial ideas and send them around to others and allow the divergence to continue as everyone individually builds on the ideas of other members.

Finally, let the group discuss the resulting ideas. This discussion will gradually lead the group to converge on a small number of candidate solutions.

This simple method works effectively, because it respects what individuals and groups do best.

1.According to Para. 4, when a member presents an idea, others tend to_____.

A.think the other way round

B.follow his way of thinking

C.be more confident in their own ideas

D.be less willing to share their own ideas

2.What should group members first do early in the problem-solving process?

A.Discuss the problem.

B.Simplify the problem.

C.Put down group statements together.

D.Write down their individual descriptions.

3.How can each group member make changes to his initial solution?

A.By adding in collected evidence.

B.By reorganizing his own words.

C.By drawing on others’ ideas.

D.By making his statement briefer.

4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?

A.To advocate a way to make group thinking more effective.

B.To demonstrate the difficulty in organizing group thinking.

C.To highlight the differences between divergence and convergence.

D.To show the advantage of group thinking over individual thinking.

This little South American Magellanic penguin swims 5,000 miles, to a beach in Brazil, every year in order to be reunited with the man who saved its life. It sounds like something out of a fairy tale, but it’s true!

71-year-old retired brick worker Joao, who lives in an island village just outside Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, found the small Magellanic penguin lying on rocks at his local beach in 2011. The penguin was covered in oil and running out of time fast. Joao rescued the penguin, naming it Din, cleaned the oil off its feathers and fed him a daily diet of fish to rebuild its strength. After a week of recovery, Joao attempted to release the penguin back into the wild. However, Din had already formed a family bond with his rescuer and wouldn’t leave.

“He stayed with me for 11 months and then, just after he changed his coat with new feathers, he disappeared,” Joao recalls. “I love the penguin like it’s my own child and I believe the penguin loves me,” Joao told Globo TV. “No one else is allowed to touch him. He pecks () them if they do. He lies on my lap, lets me give him showers, and allows me to feed him.”

Professor Krajewski, a biologist who interviewed the fisherman for Globo TV, told The Independent: “I have never seen anything like this before. I think the penguin believes Joao is part of his family and probably a penguin as well.”

However, environmentalists warn that, while hundreds of the Magellanic species are known to naturally migrate (迁徙) thousands of miles north in search of food, there has been a worrying rise in the phenomenon of oceanic creatures washing up on Brazil’s beaches. Professor David Zee from Rio de Janeiro’s State University, said the increase is due in part to global climatic changes. Professor Zee added that sea animals face increased danger from leaked tanker oil.

Luckily the ending for Joao and Din has been a happy one, even though it is illegal in Brazil to keep wild animals as pets.

Professor Krajewski said: “Professionals who work with animals try to avoid relationships like this occurring so they are able to reintroduce the animal into the wild. But in this single case the authorities allowed Din to stay with Joao because of his kindness.”

1.Every year Din swims a long distance to a beach in Brazil to ______.

A.avoid being killed B.meet his rescuer

C.escape from ocean currents D.find much more fish

2.When Din was found in 2011 ______.

A.he was dying B.he was running on the beach

C.he was resting on a rock D.he was cleaning oil off his feathers

3.What can we learn about Joao from the passage?

A.He is not allowed to keep the penguin as a pet by the authorities.

B.He overprotects the penguin by keeping him away from others.

C.His contact with the penguin is encouraged by professionals.

D.His kindness wins the penguin’s trust.

4.The story in the passage mainly shows ______.

Mya Le Thai is a scientist studying at the University of California. She recently discovered a process that may result in batteries that last forever. Thai said she had been frustrated that the batteries for her wireless devices degrade(退化). Over time, they fail to charge fully. She decided to do something about that problem.

At first, she and her team thought about inventing a new battery. But as they experimented, Thai discovered something that might permit lithium-ion batteries(锂电池) to last forever. Lithium-ion batteries power most wireless devices. Over time, the batteries lose the ability to hold a charge. One of the reasons lithium-ion batteries degrade is their use of nanowires(纳米线) to carry electricity. Nanowires are extremely thin. Nanowires are extremely efficient carriers of electricity, which makes them useful in batteries. But Thai said their thinness also makes them weak. “Nanowires break over time,” she said. “That’s why they lose capacity.”

But, Thai had a theory: The nanowires might last longer if covered with a gel(凝胶). She and the team tested her theory. The team tried many coverings for the wires. PMMA was one of them. The PMMA coated nanowires showed no evidence of damage. The results suggest that batteries could last forever, without losing charging ability. Thai hopes to continue her research to understand why this gel works so well and to see if any other gel could create better results.

Mya Le Thai told VOA she is enjoying the publicity about her discovery. She said she never expected her research to get media coverage. “It’s kind of cool,” she said. “I’m really glad people are showing interest in my work and not just in the work itself, but also in technology and energy.”

1.Why did Mya Le Thai make up her mind to settle the problem about her wireless devices degrade?

A.Because her wireless devices couldn’t work at all.

B.Because she discovered a new kind of battery.

C.Because the batteries for her wireless devices couldn’t last long.

D.Because she wanted to show her new research.

2.What prevents lithium-ion batteries from lasting forever?

A.PMMA. B.Nanowires.

C.Electricity. D.Power.

3.How can the scientist make the nanowires last longer?

A.By using a gel to cover them. B.By cutting them shorter.

C.By making them longer. D.By using a gel to make wire.

4.What kind of person is Mya Le Thai?

A.Generous and wise. B.Honest and wise.

C.Honest and hard-working. D.Modest and creative.

What are some of your favorite memories of the University?

In preparation for each fall’s 50th reunion members of the milestone class are asked to recall campus memories for an annual Memory Book.

Here’s a small selection of some memories from the Class of 1969.

Phyllis Jo Baunach

“…I cannot forget the endless hours studying, researching, and learning in the middle of the musty books in the stacks. We did everything by hand! But the joys of ideas coming to life and understanding thorny concepts are priceless.

Additionally, I cannot forget the joyful hours of Co-Kast rehearsals for student-written-and-directed plays, and the thrill of audiences’ responses to our efforts. Nor will I ever forget taking voice lessons at the Eastman School of Music. This course gave me confidence to try new musical approaches and to think on my feet.”

Paul Boehm

“…many sweet and lasting memories-five feet of deep snow, getting stranded on the Thruway, music at Hylie Morris’s Alley, and, of course, I met my wife of 48 years, Eller Blazer Boehm from the Class of 1972, when she was a freshman and I was a senior. As a five-year chemical engineering major, I had one elective to spare, and Ellen said, ‘How about oceanography?’ So, I enrolled in oceanography with Dr. Taro Takahashi (the famous climate scientist), which awakened my environmental juices, and changed my professional direction.”

Farel Vella McClure

“…I truly loved my four undergraduate years at the University of Rochester. In fact. I loved it so much that I stayed an extra year to get a master’s degree! I was very fortunate to have been totally immersed in student life on campus. My memories include campaigning and winning a seat on the student government during my freshman year. Other memories include the Susan B. Anthony banquet, and sleeping in the comfy chairs in the library. I was also privileged to be selected as a student representative on the design team for the new Wilson Commons. I. M. Pei, the famous architect who designed the Louvre Pyramid, was the architect for Wilson Commons. We even visited his offices in New York to see the ‘master’ at work.”

1.According to the passage, Paul Boehm      .

A.married Ellen Blazer in 1972

B.disliked his major in university

C.became a famous climate scientist later

There is a library in our community. My brother and I went to the library every Saturday either do our homework or pick out whatever we want to read. We spend a couple of hour there and find lots of things to talk about afterwards. Saturday’s night is our family movie night and we usual select a DVD to watch. I have DVDs, books and magazines borrowing from our library. My brother enjoys listen to music so he often checks out records.     Studying makes you tired?1.Here is some advice that may add happiness to your life.

Breathe

Taking a deep breath in stressful situations has proven to be helpful. Slow, deep breathing stops the mind focusing on whatever else might be going on, and actively lowers stress levels. Practice breathing can help you to build up a great attitude to your life.

Rest at weekends

Weekends are time for a rest. After a week's hard work, weekends are the best time for you to relax yourself. Having a nice lie-in(懒觉)is a good idea.2.

Cry out or laugh out

If you feel sad, don't try to hide your feelings. Crying out or laughing out may help to reduce your sadness. If possible, laugh more.3.If you are able to smile during your day, you'll soon begin to see the effects of stress slowly disappear.

Keep a diary

Instead of allowing a jumble(混乱)of thoughts and ideas to jump around inside your head, let them fall out onto your computer keyboard instead.4.They don't even have to make sense. Minutes later, you might be surprised at how light, airy and carefree you feel.

Join in activities

5.Going out with friends for a trip will also make you happy. And it will also bring you a good sleep.

Enjoy a big meal

It's not a good idea for a kid to lose weight, so you don't need to eat less food. When you feel upset, enjoy a big meal. Eating delicious food will make you feel good.

Lots of people love going to Disneyland, but few enjoy the experience as much as Jeff Reitz, who has been visiting Disney resorts every day, for the last 2,000 days.

Jeff started his daily visits to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim on Jan. 1, 2012, after receiving an annual pass as a gift, and hasn't skipped a day since. He was unemployed at the time, and visiting the parks gave him something to look forward to every day and kept his spirits up. Jeff managed to secure a stable job since then, but he still makes time for Disneyland, every evening.

Jeff Reitz loves the rides, but he also enjoys the music, communicating with the staff and visitors, and just watching the other visitors.

On Thursday, Jeff walked through the gate for the 2,000th day, setting a new world record for continued visits to Disneyland, and since his annual pass expires in January 2018, he plans to extend his lead even more. He will decide whether he'll renew his pass and continue his daily routine, but whatever he decides to do, "nobody can take that fun away from me".

Visiting Disneyland every day has had a positive impact on his life. He met his girlfriend, Karen, during one of his visits a few years ago. He has an active social life because of it, communicating with both staff and visitors, and even managed to lose 40 pounds by walking around every day.

Jeff has also been the target of criticism from people, who went as far as to call his daily habit a sickness. He says that Disneyland is a place of release, relaxation, and activity, one that has made him a better person all around.

Believe it or not, Jeff has never received any special treatment from Disney for his loyalty. He doesn't get any special treatment from the staff, and doesn't even get invited to take part in special events.

1.What is so special about Jeff Reitz according to the passage?

A.He is always in high spirits. B.He lives in Disneyland.

C.He visits a certain place every day. D.He works in Disneyland.

2.Which of the following can replace the underlined word "expires" in paragraph 4?

A.comes up. B.runs out.

C.tears down. D.stands out.

3.How have Jeff's daily visits benefited him?

A.They have made him put on some weight.

B.They have made him make many friends.

C.They have made him become social and active.

D.They have made him become a famous person.

4.What can we infer about Jeff from the passage?

A.He plans to give up his daily habit in two months.

B.He is puzzled about some negative thoughts.

C.He attends special parties held in Disneyland.

D.He is treated as a common visitor in Disneyland.

Meet the longest-living vertebrate(脊椎动物)in the world, the Greenland shark.

Found primarily in the very cold waters of the North Atlantic, these slow-swimming sharks can be as big as the largest great whites, reaching up to 21 feet in length. They're among the largest of carnivorous(食肉的)fish, and yet grow perhaps only a centimeter or so a year. Such slow growth yet big size is usually an indicator of a long-lived animal.

“We only expected that the sharks might be very old,” Julius Nielsen, at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, told NPR in 2016. “But we did not know in advance. And it was, of course, a very big surprise to learn that it was actually the oldest vertebrate animal.”

Imagine being 150 years old before you're ready to have your first child! Imagine being born before the United States was even a reality. For humans-who rarely make it to a century mark—it's difficult to fully understand.

Little is known about Greenland sharks, even basics such as where they give birth or how many of them there are, though researchers at a July 2017 conference at the University of Exeter thought that they may mate in “hidden” Arctic fjords. No one has even witnessed one hunting, though they have been found to have various vertebrate ones in their stomachs such as polar bear, seals, fast-swimming fish and even moose etc.

Given the shark's incredibly long lifespans, scientists are diving into the sea creature's genome, looking for clues. That conference also highlighted the work being done to separate the shark's longevity gene, with complete DNA information gathered from almost 100 sharks, including some born in the 1750s. Finding such a gene could go a long way in explaining why some vertebrates, like humans, have such limited lifespans.

These sharks also serve as swimming history books. Their tissue, bones and DNA could tell us a great deal about the waters of the world from a time before the Industrial Revolution, large-scale commercial fishing and the pronounced ocean pollution we see today.

Check out what it's like to swim with one in this encounter with what is a small and young—and yet to us, still fairly old—Greenland shark.

1.What can we know about Greenland sharks from the first two paragraphs?

A.Longest-living, and slow-swimming carnivorous vertebrate.

B.Longest-living, and slowest-swimming vertebrate.

C.Largest, but fast-growing carnivorous vertebrate.

D.Longest-living, largest carnivorous vertebrate but fast-growing.

2.Why were scientists surprised after they examined Greenland shark?

A.Greenland shark can live as old as humans.

B.Greenland shark is the largest animal in the world.

C.Greenland shark can live more than one hundred years.

D.Greenland shark is really the oldest vertebrate in the world.

3.What kind of animals do Greenland sharks prefer?

A.Both polar bear and seal. B.Only fast-swimming fish.

C.Various vertebrate animals. D.Polar bear, moose and fish.

4.What information can we get from the passage?

A.Scientists declare that they have known all about Greenland sharks.

B.Scientists want to get more information from their study on sharks.

C.Scientists consider sharks can only serve as swimming history books.

D.Scientists just want to know why Greenland sharks have a long life.

On Diwali, we were on a vacation in Dubai and having a good time and lots of fun. One day, we were visiting Abu Dhabi, traveling with a few passengers in a bus. At our first stop, we got out to take some pictures. At our second stop, we noticed that we had forgotten our shoulder bag at first stop. The worst part was that our passports, visas, hotel booking papers, itinerary…everything was inside that bag and we were very panicky, as we had to return to India in 2 days.

During this process of searching for our bags we came into contact with so many strangers whom we found to be really concerned and helpful with our situation.

The tour guide and the bus driver helped us to locate a cab so that we could travel back the first destination to find our bag.

The cab driver helped us in so many ways. He gave us his mobile phone so that we could contact everyone. He took us to a mosque near the first destination hoping that a cleaner might have found a bag. He took us to the nearest police station and helped us in communication with the policeman, who only spoke Arabic.

A policeman, who searched through everything in the lost and found department.

A local man, who actually found our bag, checked the bag and found a number to the travel agency. He informed them and sent his driver to a common destination from where we could get our bag back.

On that day, there was real panic inside me and I was constantly thinking of what would happen next? How will I find my bag? What will happen to us without our passports and visas? In such a mind set I was not able to say a proper THANK YOU to all those persons who helped us in such challenging situation.

I don't even know their names. I will never be able to forget their faces and their kindness. The world needs more humans like them and I decided to try to become one of them. I salute all those strangers and well-wishes for their acts of kindness.
