With schools close in the UK during the COVID-19 outbreak, most children must now be homeschooled. Parents have found themselves not only having to balance work and having the children at home but also having to try and teach them. How can you keep your children focused while learning?

Nicola Anderson--Head of Customer Support at the UK’s leading online tutoring service MyTutor, provides new, up-to-date tips to hearten parents at this difficult time and advises how they can structure their children’s days.

One is to keep to a regular timetable so it still feels like your child is taking part in the school day. Ms Anderson said: “Children of all ages do well on routine and boundaries; schools provide this in abundance and it will most children feel secure and happy if they can follow a similar timetable for their homeschooling.”

Another tip is to create an environment which is favorable to learning. She said:” The environment should be free from distractions and ideally near to an open window, to provide them with appropriate levels of fresh air and natural light. Some children find it comfortable and helpful to have quiet, instrumental music playing in the background to help them to focus, but this isn’t for everyone.”

Using technology to help with your child’s learning is also advised. Many schools are offering online classes and resources to help and companies are reducing or even not charging their fees during this time.

It is also important to keep physical exercise as a part of your routine. Joe Wicks, otherwise known as The Body Coach, has been keeping kids healthy with daily 10 minute workouts for children on his Youtube channel. Ms Anderson said:” It can be anything from running around the garden, walking the dog, a game of football or dancing around your living room!”

Notre-Dame de Paris, a cathedral church in Paris, is the most famous of the Gothic cathedrals of the Middle Ages. For the French, it represents something immortal, ever-present and unchanging, like a mountain. Built over almost two centuries, the Notre-Dame is, as President Emmanuel Macron said, “where the French lived all their great moments”. Soldiers prayed here before leaving for the Crusades; Napoleon Bonaparte was crowned here; it survived the French Revolution, two World Wars and the Nazi occupation. It is where men bend their knees to profess love and thousands of tourists take photos every day.

A fire, whose cause was not identified yet, engulfed (吞没), on April 15th, the cathedral's upper structure. More than 400 firefighters took part in the 15-hour battle to control the blaze (火苗) that triggered sorrow over the globe. The extent of the damage is still unknown, but the fire destroyed much of the gothic cathedral’s wood-timbered roof and spire (塔尖). The cathedral will certainly be restored (the French government promises), but the sight of flames bringing down the spire moved the world in a manner far exceeding its religious significance.

French Culture Minister Franck Riester on Thursday said the government would draw all the consequences from the huge flames that destroyed the centuries-old Notre Dame Cathedral, adding measures to protect the national heritage were on the table. “Staff from the fire department, the culture ministry and the city town hall rushed to the Cathedral, when the fire started, to protect the main artworks that were inside. The artworks, which include relics such as the Christ's crown of thorns and French king Saint-Louis's 13th century tunic, were first moved to the city town hall and will now be transferred to the nearby Louvre Museum .” the minister told Le Parisian newspaper in an interview without giving details on the possible measures.

1.What can we learn about the Notre-Dame de Paris?

A.It is the most well-known cathedral. B.Most of the French think little of it.

C.It was built by Napoleon Bonaparte. D.It’s still in existence after two World Wars.

2.What is true about the Cathedral in the accident?

A.Only the spire was brought down by the flames.

B.It was completely burnt in the fire.

C.The gilded crown of thorns in it was gone forever.

D.The cause of the accident to the Cathedral was still unknown.

3.According to Franck Riester, what has already done by the government?

A.Rebuild the cathedral.

B.Rescue the artworks inside the cathedral.

C.Transfer the relics to the nearby Louvre Museum.

D.Release the cause of the fire to the public.

A large number of India’s urban(城区的) poor kids receive little or no education. Even if they enter a formal school, their dropout rates are very high. Door Step School (DSS) aims to bridge the huge gap between these kids and education.

True to its name, Door Step School sets up a school right at the doorstep of kids who can’t get formal education due to a variety of reasons.

The team at DSS follows a direct model—they set up a classroom in any area, a footpath, construction site, or underpass, where they foresee the greatest need. They look for proper locations, and after making sure that enough resources are in place, they accept students in the area. DSS provides lessons of different levels. The organization even tries to provide classes in the local language, or whatever the students choose.

Another interesting project of DSS is a school on wheels. It uses a bus that has been changed into a classroom, which holds about 25 kids at a time.

Since it was started in 1988, Door Step School has spread from Mumbai to the neighbouring city of Pune in Maharashtra, covering a larger area and number of kids. Now DSS has a team of more than 1,000 volunteers and teachers who change more than 70,000 lives each year.

DSS doesn’t end at kids. The organisation educates parents on the importance of sending their kids to school. Its efforts have brought education to thousands of students in the last two decades. Their belief in education for all has not only changed children’s lives but also continued the fight against one of the biggest problems India faces. All children have the right to an education, and DSS is providing just that.

Ever since it was created 30 years ago, The Simpsons, the longest running prime-time(黄金时段) TV show in the country, has become part of US life. So when TV critics Alan Sepinwall and Matt Zoller Seitz ranked the 100 greatest comedies and dramas broadcast in the US ,it came as no surprise that The Simpsons was their top choice.

This was the show that changed the very concept of cartoons in Western society. Before it appeared, cartoons were considered a way to learn and have fun, not serious adult entertainment. The Simpsons changed this. The genius of the show is that it has something to offer both adults and children.

It’s a hugely entertaining program that’s also full of satire(讽刺的) and clever humor.A remark by Chitra Ramaswamy in The Guardian gave a sense of the esteem(敬重) in which The Simpsons is held:“Nothing before or since has match its capacity to be at once so profoundly clever and so unbelievably stupid.”

The show’s creators make fun of the US government, social customs, and of course, the idea of family life. But unlike most classic US prime-time TV characters the Simpsons are a dys-functional(功能失调的) family.

Bart, the boy, is always in trouble---both at home and at school. That may be in part because of his paternal example. Homer Simpson, perhaps the most iconic(标志性的) character, is a beer-swilling, overweight slob(懒汉) who is normally found in front of the TV. And Marge, Homer’s wife and the mother of the family, spends most of her time cooking, cleaning or trying to fix the messes that Bart and Homer make.

The smartest member of the family is daughter Lisa, who does well in school but is no goody-goody(讨好卖乖的人)---Lisa never misses an opportunity to challenge authority. The youngest member of the family is baby Maggie, who will likely be as much of a handful as her brother and sister when she grows up.

But although the Simpsons are a problem family, viewers are always on their side. One of the reasons why the show has remained so popular all these years is that the characters are so lovely. Millions of us identify with them. They are a working class family struggling to make ends meet. They aren’t perfect, but then, who is? And after 30 years, this is still what strikes a chord (引起共鸣)with millions of viewers worldwide.

1.According to the article , The Simpsons___________.

A.is suitable for both adults and kids.

B.reminds people of their sad children.

C.is a program designed only for fun.

D.is difficult to understand for many people.

2.Which of the following statement is TRUE about the Simpson family according to the article?

A.They all show great support to the government.

B.Bart and Lisa are the troublemakers of the family.

C.They are an ordinary family with many problems.

D.The children regard Homer as their role model.

3.According to the article, viewers like the Simpsons mainly because________.

A.they have the courage to challenge authority.

B.their lives and problems are similar to real people’s.

C.they teach viewers how to fix problems.

D.they are a happy and perfect family.

4.What is the article mainly about?

A.Reasons behind The Simpsons’ lasting popularity.

B.The most popular characters in The Simpsons.

C.Changes to The Simpsons over the years

D.What kind of stories The Simpsons tells.

When he was a little boy, his uncle called him "Sparky' after a comic-strip  (连环画)  horse named Spark Plug. School was all but impossible for Sparky. He failed every subject in the eighth grade. And while he did manage to make the school's golf team, he lost the only match of  the season straight away.

Throughout his youth, Sparky was awkward socially. It wasn't that the other students dislike him. It's just that no one really cared that much. In fact, Sparky was astonished if a classmate ever said hello to him outside of school hours. Sparky was a loser. Him, his classmates ... everyone knew it. So he learned to live with it. He made up his mind early that if things were meant to work out, they would.

One thing was important to Sparky, however-drawing. He was proud of his artwork. No one else appreciated it. But that didn't seem to matter to him. In his senior year of high school, he sent some cartoons to the yearbook. The editors rejected his ideas. Despite that, Sparky was convinced of his ability.

He even decided to become an artist. So, after completing high school, Sparky wrote to Walt Disney Studios. They asked for samples of his artwork. In spite of careful preparation, it too was rejected. One more confirmation was that he was a loser.

But Sparky still didn't give up. Instead, he decided to tell his own life story in cartoons. The main character would be a little boy who symbolized the boy who always lost and underachieved. You know him well because Sparky's cartoon character went on to become a kind of cultural phenomenon. People readily understand this "loveable loser". He reminded people of the painful and embarrassing moments from their own past, of their pain and shared humanity. The character soon became famous worldwide: "Charlie Brown". And Sparky, the boy whose many failures kept him from trying, whose work was rejected again and again, is the highly successful cartoonist Charles Schultz. His cartoon strip Peanuts continues to inspire books, T-shirts and Christmas specials, reminding us, as someone once commented, that life somehow finds a way for all of us, even the losers.

1.By saying "he learned to live with it" in Paragraph 2, the author means that Sparky_________.

A.decided not to make an effort in school

B.learned to ignore being treated badly

C.didn't care as long as no one called him a loser

D.came to accept being ignored by other students

2.Before Sparky started the Charlie Brown cartoon,_________.

A.he thought poorly of himself in drawing

B.some editors encouraged him to keep trying

C.his artwork was rejected time and again

D.his artwork was accepted by Walt Disney Studios

3.Sparky's cartoon character became so popular because_________.

A.people were touched by Sparky's never-give-up spirit

B.people felt they could relate to it

C.it inspired people to fight for their dreams

D.it mirrored people's life outlook

4.We can learn from the passage that_________.

A.nothing is impossible for a willing heart

B.a loser is meant to be a winner

C.opportunities always favor the prepared mind

D.life is to be enjoyed but not be complained about

The Nobel Prize-winning Mexican writer Octavio Paz said, “The art of the festival has been debased(下降) almost everywhere else, but not in Mexico.” Here are several events that would have made him proud:

Morelia International Film Festival

The Morelia film fest really brings this colonial city to life in mid-October. Created as a platform for documentaries and fiction works, the programming offers an up-close look at Mexican society as seen through the eyes of a new generation of filmmakers. Fashionable bars and sidewalk cafes are buzzing with activity around the main square, where crowds gather nightly for open-air screenings and other cultural events.

Day of the Dead

Each year on November 1st and 2nd, Mexico turns its thoughts to the departed during the Day of the Dead festivities, a colorful tradition deeply rooted in native culture. For Mexicans, death is more a cause for celebration than mourning, and that spirit has been kept very much alive in Pátzcuaro, the Día de Muertos mecca. Prepare yourself to battle large crowds of the living.

Carnival in Veracruz &Mazatlán

Mexico hosts many carnival celebrations every year featuring exciting parades, dance performances, live music and of course, big-time partying. The nine-day event in Veracruz, Mexico’s biggest carnival, usually kicks off in March, right around the same time when festivities get started on the Pacific coast in Mazatlán. You can shake your body with salsa music in Veracruz or the brass band sounds of Mazatlán.

La Morisma

An all-out war erupts on the streets of colonial Zacatecas, usually around late August. OK, well, it’s actually a mock battle with well over 2,000 participants re-enacting battles between the Christians and Moors in old Spain. The faux(假的)soldiers attack one another while accompanied on the streets by bands of musicians.

1.How do the Mexicans feel when the Day of the Dead comes?

A.Calm. B.Anxiod.

C.Scared. D.Happy.

2.What can people enjoy in both Carnival in Veracruz &Mazatlán and La Morisma?

C.Live music. D.A mock battle.

3.What is the purpose of the text?

A.To tell something about a Nobel Prize-winning writer.

B.To introduce some famous Mexican festivals.

C.To advise readers to join in the Mexican events.

D.To criticize the bad customs of Mexican festivals.

Getting people to smile is not difficult because most people like to smile. However, if someone is faced with loss or experiencing sadness, they might be less possible to smile. 1.

Praise someone to get them to smile. 2. Maybe their hair is styled in an attractive way, or their clothes look nice on them. These are the nice things you can say to probably get them to smile.

3. If you have a family member, a friend or a co-worker that is faced with a life difficulty, pull him/her aside and tell him/her you understand what he/she is going through and that you are there for him/her if he/she needs you. Doing this could help the person feel more connected with those around him/her and this is certainly a reason to smile.

Learn to listen. Again, some people may be so troubled by something that it is hard for them to smile. 4. Often, when a person can speak out what’s going on in their lives, to someone who is truly listening, it can reduce some of their burden (负担). When their burden is reduced, they have more reasons to smile.

Make an unexpected phone call. 5. When the person knows someone cares about him/her, he/she can’t help but smile about that.

A.Let them know they are not alone.

B.They may just need someone to talk to.

C.So in such cases, how can we get people to smile?

D.Tell them everyone experiences hard times in life.

E.Perhaps the person you are talking to has nice eyes.

F.Usually, it could make an uneasy situation even worse.

G.It works especially well if you express your concern about them on the phone.

Twenty years ago, most experts believed that differences in how boys and girls behaved were mainly due to differences in how they were treated by their parents, teachers, and friends. It’s hard to cling to that belief today. Recent research has shown that there are biological differences between boys and girls. Understanding these differences is important in raising and educating children.

For example, girls are born with more sensitive hearing than boys, and the difference increases as kids grow up. So when a grown man speaks to a girl in what he thinks is a normal voice, she may hear it as yelling. Conversely (反过来), boys who appear to be inattentive in class may just be sitting too far away too hear the teacher.

Likewise, girls are better in their expression of feelings. Studies reveal that negative emotions are seated in an area of the brain called the amygdala. Girls develop all early connection between this area and the cerebral cortex (大脑皮层), enabling them to talk about their feelings. In boys these links develop later. So if you ask a troubled adolescent boy to tell you what his feelings are, he often cannot say much.

Dr. Sax, an advocate of single-sex education, points out that keeping boys and girls separate in the classroom has yielded striking educational, social, and interpersonal benefits. Therefore, parents and teachers should try to recognize, understand, and make use of the biological differences that make a girl a girl, and a boy a boy.

In the latest romance-drama, Descendants of the Sun (《太阳的后裔》), a handsome soldier Yoo Shi-jin(柳时镇) (Song Joong-ki)(宋仲基) meets the pretty doctor Kang Mo-yeon(姜暮烟) (Song Hye-kyo)(宋慧乔) in a hospital, and he doesn’t hesitate to hit on her.

The dialogue, which takes place early in the first episode( 集), immediately indicates that this is no ordinary South Korean drama. There’s no family feud (不睦), or love tangles, or guesses and misunderstandings. The 16-episode show is set in the fictional war-torn country of Uruk (乌鲁克). Song Joong-ki is the leader of a special warfare command unit, while Song Hye-kyo plays a doctor who works for a humanitarian medical organization. Both are sent in the midst of disaster and disease as part of their work with UN peacekeeping troops. Both know and show clearly what they want and what they hate.

But what stands out the most are Song’s skills as a pick-up artist(撩妹技能).

Boldness and creativity are the key weapons in his arsenal. When Kang invites Yoo to drink wine with her, Yoo , who is not allowed to drink alcohol as a soldier, says, “There is a way” before kissing her. Forget about the “eighth-episode rule” . This kiss happens in the fourth.

Humor also does the trick. On their first date in a cinema, Yoo says, “This is the most exciting moment of my life. The moment I am with a beautiful woman before the theater lights go out.” When Kang tries to give Yoo a hard time, Yoo jokes, “I mistook you for a beautiful woman because it’s dark.”

And actor Song Joong-ki, who just came back from two years of military service last May, makes sure he delivers his pick-up lines just right.

In Deep Rooted Tree (《树大根深》) and The Innocent Man (《善良的男人》), he [Song Joong-ki] showed he had the steel to play fearless and heartless men – that he could be taken seriously as an actor, despite his pretty face. In Descendants, he hits the emotional core of every scene, whether he has to be bold and amorous, guarded and mysterious, or sad,” said critic Foong Woei Wan in The Straits Times.

1.What is the relationship between Song Joong-ki and Song hye-hyo?

A.lover B.colleague C.actor D.doctor-patient

2.Why say that the Descendants of the Sun is no ordinary South Korean drama?

A.Because actors know and show clearly what they want and what they hate. B.It broke the previous Korean old story.

C.It exits family feud and love tangles. D.The pick-up artist is unique and special.

3.When the Descendants of the Sun tells us that heterosexual ( ) contacts is important to have some quality including

humor Boldness and creativity bold emotional

A.①② B.①②③ C.②③④ D.above all

4.What is the article mainly about?

A.Introduce a drama called the Descendants of the sun.

B.Song Zhongji could be taken seriously as an actor, despite his pretty face.

C.The Descendants of the sun open a new pattern to pick-up woman.

A Writing Fool

In the seventh grade I realized I was dyslexic, which made it difficult for me to read and spell. I did really badly in my history course, so my mother said to me, “I’ll work with you for a full week. I’m going to show you what you can do if you put in the right amount of effort.” So we did. We worked on history for a full week, an extra hour every day. Then I went to school and failed the test, as always. It was really upsetting.

By the time I got to college I came to know that I couldnt spell no matter how hard I tried. So I would sign up for extra courses. I’d be in registration lines all day. Then I would go around the first day of class and ask each professor: “What’s your policy on misspelling? If he said, “Three misspellings is a fail,” I’d drop it.

Although I was an academic failure, I had a great time. I had many friends and I was always popular. I was a good football player, which was important in those years because I could read my name in the newspaper. I never had a day when I would think, “People dont like me.”

In spite of my obvious weaknesses, I became successful in my career, so much so that people say to me, “So you’ve overcome dyslexia.” No. I dont overcome it. I just learn to compensate for it. Some easy things are hard for me. Most people read 500 words a minute. I only read 200. I try not to dial a phone because I sometimes have to dial three times to get the number right. I owe my successful career to my writing instructor, Ralph Salisbury. He looked past my misspellings and gave  me  encouragement.  So  I  always  feel  confident.  When  I  write  my  books, I’m  seeing everything in my imagination. I write quickly and go like the wind.

The real fear that I have for dyslexic people is not that they have to struggle with their reading skills or that they cant spell correctly, but that they will quit on themselves before they get out of school.

No matter how hardly I tried, I couldn't understand clearly which my English teachers or native speakers said. One day, I was surfing the Internet while an advertisement for English listening drew your attention. To my amaze, it was a website where recording of some well-known books were provided. When see the website, I fell in love it, which turned out to be that useful. Now I have made a progress in listening.

Not long ago, no one understood that infectious diseases were caused by tiny organisms that moved from person to person. Even now, although we know that tiny living microbes cause disease, how they do so is not always obvious. 1. They can also be transmitted through our skin through insect or animal bites. The best way to prevent infections is to block pathogens (病菌)from entering the body.

As Wilson Guarin watched the helicopter roaring above, he wondered if the men being lifted into the sky felt the risk had been worth it.

Moments earlier, Guarin and his children had hiked to Hermit Falls in Angeles National Forest, one of the most popular waterfalls in the Los Angeles area. Soon after they arrived, they saw a man dislocate his shoulder when he jumped into the rock pool at the base of Hermit Falls.  Less than a minute later, another man jumped and appeared to break both his legs. Guarin said the cliff jumpers' intentions were obvious. They wanted to get a video of themselves and post it to social media.

A thirst among hikers, often inexperienced and under-prepared, to collect "likes" and shares on Instagram and other social media sites has led to a significant increase in rescue missions by first responders.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff' s Department's Search and Rescue teams conducted 681 missions in 2017, the largest number in five years. It' s a 38% increase from the 491 rescues they did in 2013.

The teams' leaders say the single largest factor for that increase is people posting videos of extreme activities online. Then, without any thought about the difficulty, others try to recreate their own 15-second version of glory.

On Instagram, posts from visitors venturing to waterfalls and swimming holes in Angeles National Forest and other recreation areas show hikers changed into models, striking seemingly the same poses in the same places.

We shouldn't discourage people from enjoying the outdoors. But many accidents are avoidable and happen either when people go off trail or ignore official warnings about an area being closed and visit anyway.

Guarin still thinks about the two men he watched hitching helicopter rides to a hospital. "You get concerned about what people are willing to do - to not have fun. It's risking everything for no reason. "

Well, there are the "likes".

1.What happened to the two jumpers'?

A.They both got badly injured.

B.They were trapped in a rock pool.

C.They were rescued by the Guarins.

D.They were caught in an air crash.

2.What is the main reason for the increase in the number of rescues?

A.Hikers are inexperienced and under-prepared.

B.Helicopters are readily available in more areas.

C.Travelers go off trail or ignore official warnings.

D.More people share their extreme activities online.

3.What do the figures imply in paragraph 4?

A.More social rescues are timely and effective.

B.More attention is paid from the social media.

C.More people raise the awareness of self-defense.

D.More public resources are obviously being occupied.

4.What does Guarin think of the jumpers' action?

A.It is not a wise thing to do.

B.It is their own version of glory

C.Watching it online is a lot of fun.

D.Getting "likes" makes it worthwhile.

Faced with greater competition, movie theaters have tried multiple experiments to upgrade the cinematic experience, including bigger and brighter screens and rumbling(折叠) seats. But a major challenge for exhibitors is to make the experience more attractive without depending on tricks.

One local theater, Regal L. A. Live, is experimenting with an idea that managers say strikes the right balance between so-called increase and sensory overload. The downtown L. A. theater plans to introduce Immersive Cinema Experience known as ICE technology in one of its auditoriums(礼堂) this fall.

The 190-seat auditorium will feature a traditional screen at the front, 1ike any other theater. But the audience will also have five LED screens on both sides that will flood moviegoers' peripheral (周围的 ) vision with lights and colors based on what's playing on the main screen. For example, if you're watching a scene that takes place in the African desert, the LED might shower the audience with enveloping colors of sky-blue, sun-like yellow sand. But importantly, viewers won't have to turn their necks to catch any additional onscreen action. "When you' re watching the movie, you actually feel very absorbed into the film," said Shelby Russell, a manager at L. A. Live. "It strengthens the mood of each of the scenes."

Regal L. A. Live will be the first U. S. theater to employ the technology. Managers did not say how much tickets will cost, but like other previous formats such as Imax, they will be more expensive than standard admissions.

Other cinemas have tried to introduce some other formats as theaters face growing threats from popular media. Results have been mixed, though. 4DX, which uses seat movements, water and scent effects, operates in more than 620 theaters around the world. On the other hand, Barcoo Escape, a once promising idea for a three-screen theatrical design, failed to catch on. Shelby said the success of ICE theaters in France, where it competes with Imax, indicates well for its U. S. expansion. "The problem with other formats is that they distract the moviegoer from the film," Shelby said. "ICE appeals to a very large audience."

1.What leads cinemas to experiment with new technology?

A.Expensive admissions

B.Growing competition

C.Mixed results of previous formats

D.The increasing number of moviegoers

2.What does ICE use to upgrade cinematic experience?

A.Brighter colors

B.Rumbling seats

C.Multiple screens

D.Sweet-scented effects

3.How do audience feel when watching films in an ICE cinema?

A.Absorbed into the movie

B.Distracted from the screens

C.Overloaded with excitement

D.Tired from turning their necks

4.What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Imax failed to catch on in France.

B.ICE looks promising in the U.S.

C.Barcoo Escape is a popular design.

D.The use of 4DX is on the decline.

Growing up in an Italian-American household was, for me, pretty special. My mother, Gina, an immigrant from Italy, held on to so many of her family's traditions that at times, regardless of the fact that I was living in American, our home felt like in Italy.

To this day, my mother only speaks to me in Italian. She may speak in some English terms and expressions from time to time, but our conversations are, for the most part, in her mother tongue. And most of those conversations are about food. For us, food Italian food is an important part of our lives. The food my mother prepared for me and my sister as children is the same food my grandmother created in her small farm kitchen high up in the mountains.

One of my family's dishes of heritage I made sure to learn and perfect is my mother's arancini di riso (Italian rice balls). Arancini, in Italian, means little oranges. After you roll some leftover rice into a small ball, place a piece of mozzarella  (马苏里拉奶酪 )  in the center, then bread that and fry it, the golden outside resembles one of our favorite fruits. For my family, it also showcased my mother' s ability to always find a delicious way to never let anything go to waste: Last night's good rice was repurposed into this perfect mid-day snack or dinner appetizer.

So, when I take a perfect little arancini out of the hot oil and crack it open, I am immediately transported back to my childhood: I am a little girl getting off the bus and running through the back door to the smell of last night's rice transformed into sticky, delicate goodness. This small snack symbolizes so many important elements in my life: my mother' s waste-not philosophy, her ability to take a few simple ingredients and transform them, and finally, the way she carried her mother' s recipes to the U. S. in her mind and heart so she could, years later, teach me about my heritage through food.

Eating arancini, and all the other recipes my mother continued to make here in the U. S. after leaving Italy, allowed her to teach me who I am, where I come from, and why I should be proud of it all.

3.What does the underlined word "goodness" in paragraph 4 refer to?

A.Arancini di riso.

B.Mother' s kindness.

C.The Italian language.

D.Amazing cooking skills.

4.What is the text mainly about?
