Breakdancing is close to becoming an Olympic sport after the organizers of the 2024 Paris Olympics suggested its being included in 2024. The other three sports—surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing—will all debut (面世) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The organizers said the four sports had been chosen because they would reflect the city’s identity and help take the Olympics to the street. They said they wanted to deliver a Games that were in keeping up with the times and encouraged new audiences and attracted young people. Breakdancing is an example of a sport which can be played without the limitation of time and places in urban and other environments.

Breakdancing was one of the sports at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018, and now could see its popularity greatly raised. But the International Olympic Committee (IOC) needs to approve (批准) the French suggestion before it can be formally added to the 2024 Paris Olympics sports programme.

Under new IOC rules first introduced to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Olympic host cities can select sports and propose them for inclusion in those Games if they are popular in that country and add to the Games’ appeal.

Antonio Espinós Ortueta, the president of the World Karate Federation said, “Our sport has grown rapidly over the last years. We believed that we had met all the requirements and that we had the perfect conditions to be added to the sports programme. However, we have learned today that we still haven’t had the chance to prove our value as an Olympic sport.”

Four wild young pandas were found at different times walking around with their mothers in a nature reserve in northwestern China in recent months, a report said on Sunday. Infrared (红外线的) cameras in Baishuijiang National Nature Reserve in Gansu Province caught four young pandas following their mothers and learning survival skills, such as feeding themselves, in the first quarter of 2019.

It was the latest finding of new young pandas in the area, which has the largest population of wild pandas among China’s 67 nature reserves. The fourth national survey on pandas, released in 2015, said there were 110 wild pandas living in the Baishuijiang area. A total of 1,864 lived in China.

The Baishuijiang National Nature Reserve has used infrared cameras since 2012 to monitor pandas, but this is the first time that four pairs of pandas have been found. “In the past, we found one pair every quarter at most,” said He Liwen, director of the Baishuijiang reserve. The young pandas’ body sizes suggested that two of them were a year and a half old, while the other two were almost 2 years old.

“The four pairs were caught in different places far away from each other. It’s very easy to see the differences,” he said. “So we can be sure of the number. “Baishuijiang staff members also found rare wildlife, including golden monkeys, Asian golden cats and gazelles.

The reserve director attributed (……归因于……) the good news to the government’s hard work and local people’s efforts to protect the natural habitat over many years. “It’s a process of continuous, growing progress,” he said.

1.What can we know about Baishuijiang National Nature Reserve?

A.It is home to one third of rare animals in China.

B.It provided the fourth national survey on pandas.

B.Select.

C.Control.

D.Change.

3.What leads to the discovery of other rare wildlife according to the reserve director?

A.The decrease in hunting.

B.The effort of reserve workers.

C.The development of technology.

D.The protection of natural habitats.

4.Where can we most probably read this text?

A.In a research paper.

B.In a newspaper.

C.In a travel guide.

D.In a advertisement.

Many of the Earth's creatures die because of humans' choices. These choices have nothing to do with food or shelter or anything else that helps humans survive. What kills millions of animals all over the world is that humans want to make money by doing so.

People use parts of animals for everything from hats to handbags, from jewelry to ashtrays and to make powders that supposedly improve a person's life. Deciding that a species is endangered and protecting it by law are not always enough. People who kill wildlife illegally rarely get caught.

During the late 1980s, saving elephants became a popular cause. Wildlife protection groups made sure everyone saw pictures or films of elephants with their faces cut off for their ivory. These groups also proved that certain populations of elephants were decreasing. As a result, most people stopped buying objects made of ivory. Laws against poaching (偷猎) were made stronger. Many countries made importing ivory illegal. Killing elephants for their Ivory became more risky and less profitable (有利可图的).

However, concern for certain species will become weak after a while. In the late 1970s, people protested (抗议) against the killing of seal babies. Everyone was shocked to see young seals being killed in their icy habitat. The cruel activity stopped. But ten years later, the number of seal babies killed was higher than ever.

Other animal protection movements have come and gone, such as saving the whales and protecting dolphins. The whale population appears to have increased for now. And the laws are finally changed in America to protect the dolphins that swim with tuna fish in parts of the Pacific Ocean.

In the years to come, people's attention will probably turn to some other endangered species. Plenty of them urgently need attention. During this time, will the elephants be forgotten?

1.What leads to the disappearance of millions of wild animals?

A.The growing human population.

B.Humans’ hope for making a fortune.

C.Humans’ too much need for wild food.

D.Not having enough laws on wildlife protection..

2.What can you infer from the text about what happened in the late 1980s?

A.Wildlife protection groups did make great efforts.

B.Importing ivory in all countries is illegal.

C.Those who killed elephants all got caught.

D.Hunting was completely not allowed.

3.Why are seal babies mentioned in Paragraph 4?

A.To show the effort to protect seal babies.

B.To show an increasing number of seal babies.

C.To show the decrease of worry about certain species.

D.To show people’s protest against the killing of seal babies.

4.What does the author mean by using the underlined sentence?

A.Humans should choose some rare animals to protect.

B.Attention must be paid to saving some endangered wildlife.

C.Success has been achieved in quite a few cases of wildlife protection.

D.Concern and movements for animal protection should be always kept.

According to Merriam-Webster, “autumn” appeared first in English in the 1300s, coming from the Lation word “autumnus”. “Autumn” caught on quickly, likely because it replaced the 1. So “autumn” appeared instead of “harvest”. Then the term, “autumn”, 4. was referred to the season between summer and winter, lasted for a couple of 5. The English phrase had true meaning of the season without leading 6. any confusion. Not even a century later, the phrase became a simple word: fall.

Around this same time, the English language was traveling across the globe as Britain expanded, and it was 7. (go) through some changes, as many languages did. This was 8. In the mid-1800s, British and American English speakers further developed in different ways and “fall” was the common word for “autumn” in the US, while autumn 10.     Fancy your own satellite? Arizona State University is working towards making this a reality with its SunCube FemtoSat project. Smaller than a standard CubeSat, the low-cast student-designed spacecraft is aimed at providing greater access to space for scientists and hobbyists alike.

Assistant professor Jekan Thanga and a team of students have been developing the SunCube FemtoSat for the past two years. The small 3×3×3cm cube weighs in at just 35g and a longer (3×3×9cm, 100g) model has also been designed, which includes storage space.

Each SunCube FemtoSat has its own communication, data collection and propulsion (推进) systems and is powered by solar panels. It is made of off-the-shelf parts that are available in shops, and the energy-efficient solar panels are cut from scrap (碎片), which makes it save energy, sold at a discount by manufacturers. “With a spacecraft of this size, any university can do it,” says Thanga. “That’s part of our major goal—space discovery for everybody.”

The team says that while launching your own satellite would usually cost between US $ 60,000-70,000 per kilo, it would only cost $ 1,000 to send a SunCube FemtoSat to the International Space Station, and $ 3,000 to send it into low earth orbit. Leaving the earth’s gravity would cost an estimated $ 27,000.

The FemtoSat would be packed with a “jack in the box” style system that matches standard CubeSat sizes (around 10 cubic cm), simplifying the process of getting the tiny satellite into orbit. NASA has sent 30 CubeSats into space over the last years, with another 50 awaiting launch.

Thanga and his staff view the FemtoSat as a starting point for scientists and students, and even hope the device could be bought on the website like Amazon one day. Thanga imagines developing four main applications for the device, including hands-on testing experiences for students, and artificial gravity experiments. In addition, groups of SunCube FemtoSats could eventually be able to do the job of larger spacecraft at a vastly discounted cost.

1.What is the major goal of the SunCube FemtoSat project?

A.To act on teaching in outer space. B.To provide access to spacecraft design.

C.To help carry out a classroom experiment. D.To help average individuals explore space.

2.What is special about SunCube FemtoSats?

A.They are of the same size. B.They are energy-efficient.

C.They are mainly designed for lab use. D.They are mainly used to collect information.

3.What does Thanga expect of SunCube FemtoSats?

A.They’ll be available online. B.They’ll be provided for free.

C.They’ll match the size of CubeSats. D.They’ll be sent into space with CubeSats.

4.What can be the best title for the text?

A.FemtoSats Will Rule Space B.Your Own Satellite Is Coming

C.Going into Space Has Been Afforable D.You can Design Your Own Spacecraft

Pycnandra acuminate (喜树) is a rare tree native to New Caledonia that has the rare ability to collect heavy metals like nickel () from the ground. The liquid circulated in its body is blue-green and reportedly contains up to 25% nickel.

In general, trees and heavy metals like nickel don’t really go well together. But Pycnandra acuminata make them live together. And that’s what makes Pycnandra acuminata so special. It sucks out normally poisonous levels of heavy metals from the soil and store them in its trunk, leaves and seeds.

The evolution of Pycnandra acuminate is believed to have occurred over millions of years, but scientists have yet to identify a universal principle of nickel intake and storage. The reason why such trees have formed the way of absorbing metals is also up for debate.

The most popular theory states that the concentration of nickel protects such trees from leaf-chewing insects. And studies have shown that nickel accumulated by these trees indeed harms many insects though some have developed a high tolerance to it. Another theory says nickel has effects of resisting bacteria, which protects the trees from various diseases. However, these theories are all just theories.

One thing that has been proven is the ability of Pycnandra acurninata to clean the soil with poisonous materials caused by human activity. There’s also clear potential for collecting heavy materials like nickel in these kinds of soils that will bring a few profits by conventional ways of mining. People can collect minerals contained in such soils from the blue-green trees

Unfortunately, Pycnandra acuminata is is recently in a bad situation. Human activity in forests of New Caledonia has made Pycnandra acuminata in danger. Consequently, probably fewer than several hundred trees of this kind have remained as a result of the reduction of our forests.

1.What do we know about Pycnandra acuminata?

A.It has a blue-green color due to metals collected.

B.It is able to collect some heavy metals from the ground.

C.It sucks out a great deal of poisonous underground water.

D.It tends to grow in the soil with plenty of poisonous liquid.

2.What do the theories in paragraph 4 say about Pycnandra acuminata?

A.It indeed protects many insects.

B.It stores most nickel in its roots.

C.It protects itself through the concentration of nickel.

D.It makes its surrounding plants suffer from diseases.

3.What does the author mainly want to express in the last paragraph?

A.Pycnandra acuminata is in danger.

B.Forests are to blame for the reduction of trees.

C.Forests are decreasing as a result of human activity.

D.Pycnandra acuminata is under the protection of people.

4.In which section of a magazine is this next most likely to appear?

A.Bacteria and disease. B.Health and life.

C.Fashion and entertainment. D.Man and nature.

Remember Vitainwater’s “free of rolling screen for a year” challenge that dared people to be free from smart phones for a whole year will win $ 100,000? Well, Elana Mugdan, a New York woman, has been into it for eight months, and just four months away from claiming grand prize.

Another time, her car’s “check engine” light turned on while she was driving in an unfamiliar area at night. She couldn’t use her phone’s GPS location feature, r even check what the light meant on Google or find a nearby car repair shop. Still, she learned to overcome these situations. And now she claims the last eight months of phone-free life have been one of the best adventures of her life and that she’ll keep it for another four months.

I mean the kind of listening where you find yourself deeply __________ with the person you’re speaking with, when his story becomes so __________ that your world becomes less about you and more about him. No, I was never very good at that.

I spent summer in South Africa two years ago. I worked for a good non-profit __________ called Noah, which works __________ on behalf of children affected by AIDS. But __________ you asked me what I really did in South Africa, I’d tell you one thing: I listened, and I listened. Sometimes I __________, but mostly listened.

And had I not spent two months __________, I might have missed the __________ moment when a quiet little girl at one of Noah’s community centers, orphaned(孤儿)at the age of three, whispered after a long __________, “I love you.”

________ that summer, I knew how to hear. I could sit down with anyone and hear their __________ and nod and respond at the __________ time—but most of the time I was __________ about the next words out of my own mouth. Ever since my summer in South Africa, I have noticed that it’s in those moments when my mouth is closed and my __________ is wide open that I’ve learned the most about other people, and perhaps about myself.

When your pet is sick, you know it needs medication. But pets, like babies, don’t know the pill you want them to take will help them. 1. Here are some tips to help get your pet to take liquid medicine.

2. If the answer is yes, then your easiest path is to mix it with canned food. First give your hungry pet a small amount of canned food without the medication. It’s important that the pet nibbles () at the food and sees that there's nothing wrong.

Next, while the pet is still hungry, mix the medication in a small amount of food and present it. Repeat as necessary to get the entire dose (剂量) down.  3. If the pet decides not to finish the meal, the dose will be wasted.

If the chemist says the medication cannot be taken with food, you need a syringe (注射器) or a dropper to get the liquid down your pet’s throat.

4. Keep a cheerful tone in your voice so the pet doesn’t sense your stress or hesitation. Position your pet where it cannot run away, perhaps having a dog sit with his back against a wall or chair – or a cat on your lap.

5. Use your other hand to insert the syringe or dropper between the cheek and back teeth. Slowly squeeze the medication so the pet won’t choke. Try to keep your pet’s mouth closed for about 30 seconds until you see it has swallowed. If your pet is being obstinate (倔强的) , stroke its throat gently or blow on the face.

Be sure you end the process with praise and perhaps a treat so your pet will not associate medication with a bad experience.

A. Before you call your pet in, be sure to have the medication and any other materials you’ll need ready.

B. Once the pet is in position, use one hand to gently open the pet’s mouth from above, tilting back the     head slightly.

C. Ask the vet if the liquid medication can be given with food.

D. You should know the reason why the pet refuses to take medicine.

E. Never mix the medication with the full meal.

F. They just know it smells funny and they don’t want it.

G. Don’t force your pet to swallow all the medicine.

Making employees feel happy and healthy at work is good for many businesses. But it isn’t always an easy thing. A study suggests that only 33% of the U. S. employees consider themselves fully engaged (投身于)in work, while 16% are greatly disengaged, and 51% are just showing up.

But there is an exception. When it comes to employee engagement, it seems that employees in small companies are doing better. According to the same research, the largest U. S. companies are at the lowest levels of engagement, while companies with fewer than 25 employees are at the highest. And in one recent report, 75% of small business workers surveyed said they were “very” or “extremely” satisfied with their role as a small company employee.

Unlike big companies, small companies are often short of resources but the employees can get more surprises there. Small companies offer excellent career opportunities to their employees. The bosses often know their staff very well and understand their personal needs. Employees of small companies are more likely to receive free meals, paid leave, and they can even bring their pets to work.

But of course ? there are many other draws in small businesses. One of the top draws is flexible scheduling (弹性工时). Another is being able to really see the fruits of one's labor. Besides, non-cash award is also a big draw. This could be something small that reflects employees’ interests and lifestyles.

While a parental leave might lead to some financial problems, small companies may do something to improve it. “It may be impossible for a five-person team to be reduced to four for six months,” writes Camillia Velasquez, head of HR management platform, Justworks. “But it could be possible to allow new parents to take on reduced hours in a work-from-home environment. ” This kind of method has been realized in some small companies.

1.What can we know about employees in big and small companies?

A. Employees can develop better in small companies.

B. Employees can earn more money in small companies.

C. Employees in big companies are hard to be satisfied.

D. Employees in small companies are more engaged in work.

2.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?

A. Working for small companies has many benefits.

B. All the employers in small companies know every staff member very well.

C. Staff in small companies may face many challenges.

D. Staff in big companies have more material benefits.

3.Compared with big companies, what is the advantage of small companies?

A. Employers in small companies have more choices.

B. Small companies have more attractions to employees.

C. Employees of small companies may have higher salaries.

D. Employees of small companies have fixed working time.

4.What can be most probably inferred from the passage?

A. Small companies may have more employees with much happiness.

B. Big companies should learn from some small companies.

C. Employees should have their own hobbies and lifestyles.

D. Employers should pay more attention to the staff’s needs.

That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.

As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.

About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.

Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.

It was nearly 3 a. m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.

There is an old Chinese proverb that states “One generation plants the trees; another gets the shade,” and this is how it should be with mothers and daughters. The relationship between a mother and a daughter is sometimes confusing. The relationship can be similar to friendship. However, the mother and daughter relationship has unique characteristics that distinguish it from a friendship. These characteristics include a hierarchy (等级) of responsibilities and unconditional love, which preclude mothers and daughters from being best friends.

Marina, 27 years old, said, “I love spending time with my mom, but I wouldn’t consider her my best friend. Best friends don’t pay for your wedding. Best friends don’t remind you how they carried you in their body and gave you life! Best friend: don’t tell you how wise they are because they have been alive at least 20 years longer than you.” This doesn’t mean that the mother and daughter relationship can’t be very close and satisfying.

While some adult relationships are still troubled, many find them to be extremely rewarding. This generation of mothers and adult daughters has a lot in common, which increases the likelihood of shared companionship. Mothers and daughters have always shared the common experience of being homemakers, responsible for maintaining and passing on family values and traditions. Today contemporary mothers and daughters also share the experience of the workforce and technology, which may bring them even closer together.

Best friends may or may not continue to be best friends, but for better or worse, the mother and daughter relationship is permanent, even if for some unfortunate reason they aren’t speaking. The mother and child relationship is closer than any other. There is not an equal relationship. Daughters should not feel responsible for their mother’s emotional well-being. It isn’t that they don’t care deeply about their mothers. It’s just that they shouldn’t be burdened with their mother’s well-being.

The mother and daughter relationship is a relationship that is not replaceable by any other. Mothers never stop being mothers, which includes frequently wanting to protect their daughters and often feeling responsible for their happiness. Mothers always “trump (胜过)” friends.

1.What does the underlined word “preclude” in paragraph 1 probably mean?

A.Differ. B.Prevent.

C.Benefit. D.Change.

A.The mother and daughter relationship can be replaced by a best friend.

B.A mother’s love brings her and her daughter a close friendship.

C.The mother and daughter relationship goes beyond best friends’ friendship.

D.Marina has a troubled relationship with her mother.

3.How does the author mainly prove his statements?

A.By listing data. B.By giving explanations.

C.By quoting sayings. D.By making comparisons.

4.What is the best title for the text?

A.How to Be a Good Mother and Daughter?

B.Who Is a Mother’s Best Friend?

C.Mothers or Friends?

D.Can a Mother Be a Daughter’s Best Friend?

You may never know just a small thing you do to others means a lot of. Your giving a hand possible will be a lighted torch, brightening the road in the dark. A warm word of you will be ray of sunshine, melting a cold but helpless heart. In addition, offering help is a virtue. If you offer to help others, you’ll eventually be rewarding. Helping others is always a good tradition of our nation, who has been rooted in our hearts. I think what we needed is to rebuild a warm relationship between each others. Besides, by helping others, you can have a feeling of satisfaction and proud, a sense of achievement and the realization of your own value. As an old say goes, “Roses given, fragrance in hand.”

Researchers at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research show how the interaction (交互) between remembering and forgetting in the brain 1. (allow) us to make more intelligent decisions 2. (base) on memory. They published a new review paper in the journal Neuron.

Forgetting makes us smart by working with memorizing 3. the following ways, the researchers say. First, letting go of outdated information lets us adapt to new situations. By forgetting the old and potentially misleading information, we can adapt to new environments 4. (easy). Second, forgetting also makes decision- making simple. We just remember the important information which makes it easy for us 5. (make) wise decisions.

What and how much we remember can 6. (decide) by our environments, For example, a lawyer or a designer with a set of clients will likely remember 7. (they) names for a longer period of time, A cashier who has a changing sea of 8. (customer) every day will only remember names for a short amount of time.

The researchers point out that the motto is true: If you don’t use it, you lose it. But as 9. review paper shows, it can be a good thing. Clearing out the information you don’t need can help make room for the important things, 10. can make you become more intelligent.

A new study focuses on K2-18b, an exoplanet (系外行星) like the earth discovered in 2015, orbiting a red dwarf star (矮星) close enough to receive about the same amount of radiation from its star as the earth does from the sun.

Recently, scientists have discovered gas giants that have water in their atmospheres, but this is the least massive planet ever to have water detected in its atmosphere. ''The water detection was quite clear to us relatively early on, lead author Bjorn Benneke, a professor at the Institute for Research on Exoplanets at the Universite de Montreal, '' told Space.com in an interview.

Studies have suggested that planets with hydrogen-rich atmospheres could host certain forms of life, Benneke said. However, a news release reads: ''K2-18b's large atmosphere is extremely thick and creates high-pressure conditions, which likely prevents life as we know it from existing on the planet’s surface. '' While these researchers found evidence for liquid water clouds on K2-18b because of its lack of surface, rain wouldn't pour on the planet. Without a real surface, so to speak, landing on the planet would also be nearly impossible, especially because the gas is so thick and has such an incredibly high pressure that any earthr-created space-craft sent there would be devastated.

Benneke suggests that, possibly, this planet is formed by rock absorbing large amounts of gas, like a vacuum (真空) cleaner. This absorbed gas would have more than doubled the planet and increased its volume eightfold.

To come to these conclusions, the research team analyzed the data from Hubble Space Telescope observations that they made between 2016 and 2017 of the K2-18b planet passing in front of its star eight times. It allows scientists to detect distinct characters of water in a planet's atmosphere. This team plans to expand this research even further by studying K2-18b with NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, which is set to launch in 2021. This type of research, Benneke said, is leading toward a final goal of ''being able to study the earth-like planets. '' ''We are not quite there yet. '' he said, ''but this is really exciting. ''

1.What can we learn about K2-18b?

A.It is a planet closest to the sun.

B.It hosts certain forms of life because of thick gas.

C.It is covered with thin atmosphere and liquid water.

D.It's the smallest planet with water in its atmosphere ever found.

2.What does the underlined word ''devastated'' in paragraph 3 mean?

A.Declared. B.Detected.

C.Destroyed. D.Delivered.

3.What allows scientists to detect clear characters of water in a planet's atmosphere?

A.The expansion in the research.

B.The data by the Hubble Space Telescope.

C.The goal of recognizing the real exoplanet.

D.The conclusion of increasing the planet's volume.

4.What can be the best title for the text?

The type of soap with the name African black soap or simply black soap is the one that has its origin in Africa or West Africa to be precise.

The soap is often made by women and is fair-traded, though not always, Black soap is traditionally made in West Africa, typically Ghana, from secret recipes. Different tribes have adopted their own secret making techniques, which can be seen in different colors among black soap. Varieties of black soaps actually made in Africa tend to be pure.

The first step of making traditional African black soap is selecting the plant—usually cocoa pods or palm tree leaves, sometimes shea tree bark (酪脂树皮), which then are sun-dried and burned to ashes which are often used to heal cuts. To guarantee the natural color and light smell, it's important to keep a constant temperature of burning. Then the water is added into the ashes along with the shea butter, palm oil, and coconut oil. That mixture is cooked until it becomes stable. It needs to be hand stirred for at least 24 hours. After that, they scooped it out and let it ''cure'' for two weeks. Those soaps that are made in Africa contain no artificial ingredients (材料).

African black soap is being used for many generations and many causes. African black soap has many benefits over commercially produced soaps. One of the most common usage is to cure skin conditions and problems. After using this soap, the skin looks healthy. Another usage of the black soap is for removing the makeup and dead skin. It also gives an excellent UV (紫外线) protection because of the high level of shea butter in it.

However, the black soap also has some unpleasant side effects. For example, your skin may become over-dried. If so, you should stop using it and wash your skin with water.

1.What leads to color differences of African black soap?

A.Different market demands. B.The makers' personal preferences.

C.Some artificial ingredients. D.Various secret making techniques.

2.What should people do first when making African black soap?

A.Choose the proper plant. B.Change the temperature of burning.

C.Mix coconut oil up for a whole day. D.Dry palm tree leaves for two weeks.

3.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?

A.The benefits of African black soap.

B.The problems caused by black soap.

C.The harm of using African black soap.

D.The process of making African black soap.

4.What do we know about African black soap?

A.It has a strong smell.

B.It's effects are two-edged.

C.It's quite difficult to purchase.

D.It's specially made for women.

It was hot and yet, such a beautiful day. My parents and I picked up my grandmother from the nursing home. We used to go there regularly but the last time I visited my grandmother, she seemed to forget where she was and how to breathe on the massage (按摩) table—it scared me so I thought perhaps it was better to transfer her to a clinic that day.

She had been getting weaker and having aches from sitting in a wheel chair all day, so I called Wang Tao who runs a Chinese massage clinic with his wife and daughter out of their home and told him my concerns wasn't even sure whether my grandmother would be strong enough to get up the stairs or get onto the table.

''We can help her make it'', Wang Tao said. And, we did. Sure there were struggles and funny moments. For example, my grandmother wondered who was the man working on her back, Wang Tao had massaged her over the years at least 20 times. They used to laugh and talk together in Chinese but my grandmother didn't remember. Wang Tao was shocked that my grandmother seemed to have forgotten he is a Chinese man, but he still patiently tried to refresh her memory.

My grandmother was born in California, but her parents who were born in China only spoke Chinese, so Chinese was her first language but English is spoken all around her. Still, our family all felt grateful and happy to hear my grandmother start talking to Wang Tao in Chinese again. It was like the dust just needed clearing. We all laughed a happy laugh. When the session was over, my grandmother took Wang Tao's hand and thanked him for helping her.
