Rich and Famous

Twenty years ago the most common ambition of American children was to be a teacher, followed by working in banking and finance, and then medicine. But today’s situation is quite different. 1. Instead they most commonly say they want to be a sports star, a pop star, or an actor—in other words, they hope to become a celebrity .

According to experts, young people desire these jobs largely because of the wealth and the fame. 2. Let’s take athletes and singers as an example. Their careers are short-lived. Many athletes’ best time only lasts a few years and singers can have a very limited career. The field that was once the focus of their lives becomes something they have little or no involvement in. As a result, they’ll have a feeling of worthlessness and a lack of control. 3.The truth is quite simple: they have been so far removed from it for so long.

In spite of these disadvantages, there is greater ambition than ever among young people to achieve that status. They are not satisfied just making a living—they want to be rich and famous. Globally, more and more TV shows provide talent competitions where winners can achieve their goals in just a few weeks or months.4.They unrealistically believe that this lifestyle is easily obtained and leads to great satisfaction.

While many people argue that there is nothing wrong with having such ambitions, others feel that this trend will finally lead to dissatisfaction as more and more people are unable to reach their goals. 5. That means they ignore the simple fact that great effort is needed before success. As a result, many people won’t realize their childhood dreams, which could have a negative effect on their happiness.

A. In many ways this has been brought about by the celebrity culture.

B. People no longer have a sense of satisfaction once their goals have been achieved.

C. Besides, it can be difficult for them to adapt back to a normal everyday life.

. The younger generation don’t favor these professions any more.

E. Unfortunately, they do not always have a positive effect on people’s life.

F. The reason is that they don’t realize it takes talent and hard work to be rich and famous.

G. This quick way of gaining wealth and fame creates a celebrity culture among people.

Many of us listen to music while we work, thinking that it will help us to concentrate on the task at hand. And in fact, recent research has found that music can have beneficial effects on creativity. When it comes to other areas of performance, however, the impact of background music is more complicated.

The idea that listening to music when working is beneficial to output probably has its roots in the so-called “Mozart effect”. Put simply, this is the finding that spatial rotation performance(空间旋转能力) is increased immediately after listening to the music of Mozart, compared to no sound at all.

How sound affects performance has been the topic of research for over 40 years, and is observed through a phenomenon called the irrelevant sound effect. To study irrelevant sound effect, participants in the research are asked to complete a simple task which requires them to recall a series of numbers or letters in the exact order in which they saw them. The tricky thing is being able to do this while ignoring any background noise.

Two key characteristics of the irrelevant sound effect are required for its observation. First, the task must require the person to use their rehearsal abilities(复述能力), and second, the sound must contain acoustical variation(声学变化). Where the sound does not vary much acoustically, the performance of the task is much closer to that observed in quiet conditions.

The irrelevant sound effect itself comes from attempting to process two sources of ordered information at the same time—one from the task and one from the sound. Unfortunately, only the former is required to successfully perform the  recall task, and the effort in ensuring that irrelevant order information from the sound is not processed actually hinders(阻碍) this ability.

A similar conflict is also seen when reading while in the presence of lyrical music. In this situation, the two sources of words—from the task and the sound—are in conflict. The cost is poorer performance of the task in the presence of music with lyrics.

What this all means is that whether having music playing in the background helps or hinders performance depends on the task and on the type of music, and only understanding this relationship will help people maximize their productivity levels.

1.“Mozart effect” is mentioned to ________.

A. explain how music can relax people

B. show music can improve performance

C. advise people to listen to Mozart music

D. stress Mozart music gains wide attention

2.It can be inferred that participants in the research ________.

A. have improved their rehearsal ability

B. perform better in the quiet conditions

C. ignore the background noise successfully

D. prefer the music with great sound variation

3.Paragraph 6 is written to ________.

A. support an idea B. make a contrast

C. introduce a topic D. describe a fact

4.What is the best title for the passage?

A. Music shapes your life

B. Music develops your creativity

C. Choose quiet music for your work

D. Does music make you concentrate?

Seeds on Ice

Close to the North Poleremote and rocky Plateau Mountain in the Norwegian archipelago of

Svalbard seems an unlikely spot for any global effort to safeguard agriculture. In this cold and deserted environmentno grainsno gardensno trees can grow. Yet at the end of a 130-meter-long tunnel cut out of solid stone is a room filled with humanity’s most precious treasure, the largest and most diverse seed collection—more than a half-billion seeds.

A quiet rescue mission is under way. With growing evidence that unchecked climate change-will seriously affect food production and threaten the diversity (多样性) of crops around the worldthe Svalbard Global Seed Vault (地窖) represents a major step towards ensuring the preservation (贮藏) of hundreds of thousands of crop varieties. This is a seed collection, but more importantly, it is a collection of the traits found within the seedsthe genes that give one variety resistance to a particular pest and another variety tolerance for hotdry weather.

Few people will ever see or come into contact with the contents of this vault. In sealed boxesbehind multiple locked doorsmonitored by electronic security systems, enveloped in below—zero temperatures, and surrounded by tons of rock, hundreds of millions of seeds are protected in their mountain fortress. Frozen in such conditions inside the mountain, seeds of most major crops will remain viable for hundreds of years, or longer. Seeds of some are capable of retaining (保留) their ability to grow for thousands of years.

Everyone can look back now and say that the Seed Vault was a good and obvious idea, and that of course the Norwegian government should have approved and funded it. But back in 2004, when the Seed Vault was proposed, it was viewed as a crazyimpractical, and expensive idea.

We knew that nothing would provide a definite guarantee. But we were tiredfed upand frankly scared of the steady, greater losses of crop diversity. The Seed Vault was built by optimists who wanted to do something to preserve options so that humanity and its crops might be better prepared for change. If it simply resupplied seed gene banks with samples those gene banks had lost, this would repay our efforts.

The Seed Vault is about hope and commitrnent - about what can be done if countries come together and work cooperatively to accomplish something significantlong-lastingand worthy of who we are and wish to be.

1.According to the passage, the Seed Vault is ___________.

A.a tunnel where the collected seeds are displayed

B.a stone room that contains the seeds of endangered crops

C.a seed gene bank that stores diverse seeds for future agriculture

D.a lab where researchers study how to maintain the diversity of crops

2.The underlined word“viable”in Paragraph 3 probably means ________.

A.mature B.clean

C.alive D.valuable

3.Paragraph 3 mainly tells us __________.

A.how the seeds are preserved B.where people keep the seeds

C.why the seeds are protected D.what people do to study the seeds

4.We can know from the passage that _________.

A.the Seed Vault offers a solution to climate change

B.most countries took part in rescuing the seed varieties

C.the Seed Vault guarantees to prevent the loss of crop diversity

D.many people originally considered building the Seed Vault unwise

At a bright new building in Landover, Maryland, students are getting a crash course(速成课), in which they are learning how to spendsave and look after their money responsibly.

Tuesday marked the grand opening of the newest Junior Achievement Finance Park where eighth-graders from Prince George’s County schools will use tablet computers to practice personal finance skills they have learned in class. An international study last year clearly showed that more than 1 in 6 U. S. teens is unable to make simple choices about how to spend their money.

The center, a mini city of stores, was created by Prince George’s County schools, Capital One Bank and Junior Achievement of Greater Washington. In fact the first Washington-area Finance Park opened in Fairfax County, Virginia, five years ago. Altogether there are 17 finance parks nationwide, and one is planned to open in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Before coming to a finance park, students have lessons on how to save and invest, how to read a bank statement and how to make sense of debit (借记)and credit cards. They put their skills to the test when they walk inside. Students are given a career, salary, debt and family situation, and then they are required to have to put together a monthly budget (预算).

Budgeting can be tricky. Students need to figure out how much to spend on groceries, rent, transportation and even entertainment. They shop with virtual (虚拟的)moneymaking a change in their budgets according to different situations they may go into.

My first trip to Greece took place in the 1960s. There I accepted a challenge to hitchhike(搭便车)with a group of English friends from my university in Birmingham to Athens with little money. For me, a 20-year-old girl, I had not done anything like this before. It was so hard on the road.We slept in the open air, ate little more than bread and cheese, and depended heavily on the help of strangers. But it helped me learn about European society.

One day, my Greek friend came to see me at the youth hostel and asked me to step outside. He was angry with me. He reminded me of my social background and asked what my parents would say if they saw me living in these conditions like these “dirty” English. After several weeks on the road, we did look tired; but his choice of the word “dirty” interested me. He was showing a historic dislike of the English that some Europeans had. In that part of Europe, both the Turks and the Greeks, who dislike each other to this day, blamed(责怪) the English for their national disasters. He ignored my explanations of having accepted the challenge of hitchhiking. He took me home and his family, especially his mother and sisters, showed me Greek hospitality(好客) at its best.

My experience in Greece could not have differed more from the situation facing Pakistanis—and others seeking shelter —in Greece today. On recent visits to Greece in connection with my study on Islam in Europe, I saw the trouble of the refugees(难民). Some said that they had been physically beaten. However, there are good stories of ordinary Greeks giving shelter to some hopeless refugees. The sense of Greek hospitality that I experienced as a student does exist.

1.What was the author's purpose of taking a trip to Greece in the 1960s?

A.To visit a friend in Greece.

B.To complete a challenge bravely.

C.To learn how to hitchhike to other countries.

D.To increase her knowledge about European society.

2.What did the author find during her recent visits to Greece?

A.Many Greeks lived a very bad life.

B.The country hadn’t changed much.

C.Some refugees were badly treated.

D.Many people were leaving the country.

3.What does the author want to show by giving the example in the last paragraph?

A.Many Greek people still love helping others.

B.Many people in Greece need help.

C.Greece is a safe country for refugees.

D.Helping others is very important.

Why does autumn have two names? According to Merriam-Webster, “autumn” appeared first in English in the 1300s, coming from the Lation word “autumnus”. “Autumn” caught on quickly, likely because it replaced the 1. (origin) name—”harvest”. As you might imagine, when crops were collected from the fields, calling the season “harvest” might make people 2. (confuse) because “harvest” is also the name for the act 3. (it).

So “autumn” appeared instead of “harvest”. Then the term, “autumn”, 4. was referred to the season between summer and winter, lasted for a couple of 5. (century). “Fall” as a name for the season came about sometime in the 1500s, a shortened version of the very poetic phrase for “the fall of leaves”. The English phrase had true meaning of the season without leading 6. any confusion. Not even a century later, the phrase became a simple word: fall.

Around this same time, the English language was traveling across the globe as Britain expanded, and it was 7. (go) through some changes, as many languages did. This was 8. In the mid-1800s, British and American English speakers further developed in different ways and “fall” was the common word for “autumn” in the US, while autumn 10. (regard) as the word for fall in England.

Cloud services-such as OneDrive, iCloud, Google Drive, and Dropbox-can protect your data from local threats, such as theft, fire, flood, nasty virus and hard drive failure.

2., he might take your hard drive, too, unless you store it elsewhere. A flood or fire could destroy both your computer and hard drive if kept in the same place.

Anywhere access.

With cloud services, you can access your backed-up stuff-such as documents or media- from virtually any Internet-connected computer, tablet or smartphone in the world. Most cloud services have free apps that make it easy to download or upload files from your mobile device. 3.

Sharing is super easy.

Cloud computing can also reduce over-crowding in someone's email box. Rather than try- ing to email several large photos or videos to a colleague, friend or family member, which can block up their email box, you can simply store them in the cloud and send a link to receivers to download the goods. 4.

Using natural and organic products for skincare is increasingly popular-and that includes suncream. Many websites, including Pinterest and Instagram, feature users' recipes for homemade suncream. Judging from the comment, the rise in interest for homemade suncream is because some people fear the chemicals in shop-bought suncream and believe that natural products mixed at home will be better at protecting them from the sun's harmful rays. The fear originates from recent news that some suncream elements seem to disturb hormones (荷尔蒙).

Many of the homemade suncream recipes contain elements like shea butter and cocoa butter as well as coconut and vitamin E oils. The sun protection factor (SPF) values for these elements, according to the authors of these recipes, are between four and six. These SPF values, if true, are not enough to protect the skin against the harmful effects of sunlight. Some recipes include carrot seed essential oil, which the authors claim to have an SPF of 35-40. But this is unlikely, given the small amount used in these recipes. The European Commission recommended SPF factor for moderate skin protection is 15-29 (and 30-50+ for high protection).

The sun's most harmful rays are ultraviolet (UV) radiation-notably UVB and UVA radiation. UVB has a shorter wavelength and doesn't go far into the skin, but it is very dangerous as it can change the DNA in skin cells and cause skin cancer. UVA has a longer wave- length and can go much deeper into the skin. UVA can cause harmful reactive oxygen molecules (分子)called “free radicals” to form. These molecules can damage fat, protein and DNA in the skin, thereby weakening the normal function of skin cells.

Shop-bought suncream contains approved UV-blocking molecules that block UVA and UVB rays. Zinc oxide (氧化锌)is one of these UV-blocking materials. It has been extensively tested to determine the most effective size for blocking harmful rays. It is not clear whether the zinc oxide powder recommended for the homemade recipes meets with the recommended size or proportion needed.

1.What may concern consumers of the shop-bought suncream?

A.The price of it. B.The hormones in it.

C.The chemicals in it. D.The production process of it.

2.What are SPF values used for?

A.Measuring the amount of chemicals in suncream.

B.Measuring the harm suncream do to people.

C.Measuring the hormone level of suncream.

D.Measuring the protective effect of suncream.

3.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?

A.How sun protection products work.

B.What harm the sun's rays bring to skin.

C.How the sun's most harmful rays form.

D.How UVB and UVA radiation can be blocked.

4.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.Shop-bought suncream needs more tests.

B.More zinc oxide powder is beneficial to skin.

C.Shop-bought suncream is more suitable for people.

D.More chemicals will be added into shop-bought suncream.

The age of technology is a great and convenient thing, but it does have effects on us in many different ways.

It causes long-term memory loss. Thanks to Baidu, we don't really have to remember much of anything. Questions are answered at the drop of a hat because Baidu is all-knowing! Is that a good thing, though? People aren't digging through their brains anymore to find answers. Here's the good news: we can still exercise our long-term memory by simply thinking before we Baidu. If we don't want to go down that road, we can search Baidu for some memory games to play. Turn Baidu into an asset instead of an enemy.

It makes us lack patience. Baidu gives us what we want. Everything is instant. In fact, if we have to wait for even a handful of minutes for anything, we start losing our minds. This idea of instant satisfaction carries through to many other aspects of our lives, too, like when we go out to eat, drive in traffic, or even deal with workplace accidents. Instead of using Baidu to lessen our anger, try searching for some mindful meditations (沉思).Focus on our breath and realize everything doesn't have to move at lightening speed. We can actually listen to some peaceful spa or meditation music on our Pandora, too!

It wastes our time. Be honest, how much time are we spending on Baidu every day? Whether we're doing research for our own personal needs, buying clothing, or writing a research paper, we all spend a ton of time on the trusty Internet. Are we always being efficient with this time? For the sake of our precious time, if we haven't used Baidu Drive, we should. Keep spreadsheets, text docs, PDFs, slideshows, and even recordings exactly where we can easily find them. Keep a running list of websites we know we'll revisit.

Overall, things are different these days. Yes, there are noticeable negative side effects because of the Baidu invasion, but we don't have to fall into that trap. Stay sharp and don't let ourselves become imprisoned doing the Baidu god's bidding.

1.Which of the following can best replace the underlined part “at the drop of a hat”?

A.at one point B.in no time C.in a way D.at a loss

2.Why do we turn impatient in real life according to paragraph 3?

A.We depend on ourselves too much.

B.We can't get everything with Baidu.

C.We can't get quick services in real life.

D.We get used to Baidu's quick convenience.

3.What is the author's advice on saving time online?

A.Using Baidu Drive.

B.Keeping papers correctly.

C.Being efficient with work.

D.Emptying websites records timely.

4.What does the text mainly tell us?

Glenda and Raphael Savitz moved to Newton in 2016. They found themselves welcomed into the neighbourhood with truly open arms. Three months later, they gave birth to Samantha . Unluckily, she was born entirely deaf. The neighbourhood was still excited to welcome little Samantha, of course, but they were worried about her parents.

The neighbours wanted to do something to make things easier for the family. All the neighbourhood agreed to take on the responsibility of learning an entirely second language all for their youngest member. Samantha would grow up learning to “speak” American Sign Language, so her friends and neighbours would learn to speak it right along with her. The group of 18 residents employed a sign language teacher and the whole neighbourhood except Glenda and Raphael Savitz began to learn American Sign Language in a neighbour's big living room. They believed people everywhere wished to have a community with something positive around and Samantha was bringing about a reason for them to get together.

The neighbours went on learning hard and kept things secret for as long as possible. They wanted thirstily to communicate with the little girl. Finally, the time had come to show Raphael, Glenda, and Samantha what they had done. The family found themselves deeply moved by the welcoming signs of their friends and neighbours. Glenda recalled it as one of the most affecting experiences she'd ever felt. A present for Samantha would have made her grateful, and this was so much more. Now after neighbours say hello to her parents, they bend down to greet three-year-old Samantha with sign language. At every turn, in the street, the grocery store, or by the canal, Samantha feels included.

What Is Emotional Eating?

Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of satisfying hunger.1.Have you ever finished a whole bag of chips out of boredom or downed cookie after cookie while preparing for a big test? But when done a lot — especially without realizing it — emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overall well-being.

Not many of us make the connection between eating and our feelings.

2.One of the biggest myths about emotional eating is that it’s caused by negative feelings. Yes, people often turn to food when they’re stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious, or bored. But emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing dessert on Valentine’s Day or the celebration of a holiday feast. Sometimes emotional eating is tied to major life events, like a death or a divorce. 3.

Emotional eating patterns can be learned: A child who is given candy after a big achievement may grow up using candy as a reward for a job well done. 4.It’s not easy to “unlearn” patterns of emotional eating. But it is possible. And it starts with an awareness of what’s going on.

We’re all emotional eaters to a degree. But for some people emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious weight gain or other problems. The trouble with emotional eating is that once the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelings that cause it remain. 5.That’s why it helps to know the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger.

Next time you reach for a snack, wait and think about which type of hunger is driving it.

A. Believe it or not, we’ve all been there.

B. If a crying boy gets some cookies, he may link cookies with comfort.

C. One study found that people who eat food like pizza become happy afterwards.

D. And you often may feel worse about eating the amount or type of food you like.

E. Understanding what drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it.

F. Boys seem to prefer hot, homemade comfort meals, while girls go for chocolate and ice cream.

G. More often, though, it’s the countless little daily stresses that cause someone to seek comfort in food.

Stephen Hawking was both one of the world's most famous scientists and most famous disabled people. His life was a juxtaposition of sparkling intellect and failing body. Prof Hawking was diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone(运动神经元) diseases when he was 21.

The nerves that controlled his muscles were failing and he became trapped in his body, but his mind was still free. He reached the height of his field while being a wheelchair user.

Professor Hawking certainly raised awareness of motor neurone diseases. One of his major contributions to disability in general was simply being visible---often at a time when disabled voices were missing from popular culture. He made small-screen appearances on The Simpsons, Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory. His life was dramatised (改成剧本)by the BBC and in the film The Theory of Everything.

Steve Bell, from the MND association, said: "He was probably the most famous person with a physical disability and it almost normalises it to see his absolute genius. I think it affected a lot of people, seeing he's more than a trapped body. The public's view of disability has changed.

But Prof Hawking’s life was exceptional. He lived five decades longer than doctors expected. Many others with motor neurone diseases die in the years after diagnosis. He was a theoretical physicist. His laboratory was in the mind; his scientific equipment was mathematics.

Prof Hawking was able to continue to pursue his career in a way that would have been much harder in other scientific disciplines and impossible in many other professions. It remains an open question how much he would have achieved if he was disabled from birth rather than after graduating with a first at Oxford. Today, disabled people are more than twice as likely to be unemployed than people without disability. Prof Hawking 's only advice on disability was to focus on what could be achieved. "My advice to other disabled people would be, concentrate on things your disability doesn’t prevent you doing well, and don 't regret the things it interferes with. Don't be disabled in spirit, as well as physically,” he said in an interview with the New York Times.

1.What does the underlined word juxtaposition in Paragraph 1 mean?

A.Combination. B.Trouble.

C.Difficulty. D.Mess.

2.How did Hawking raise awareness of motor neurone diseases?

A.By trying not to get trapped by the disease.

B.By making the voice of the disabled heard.

C.By making people be used to the small screen.

D.By working for the BBC and film companies.

3.What did Steve Bell think of Hawking?

A.He was the most well-known person.

B.He was affected greatly by many people.

C.He changed people's view of disabled people.

D.His physical disability affected his mind.

4.What's Hawking’ s tip to disabled people?

A.Try to find a job and don't be unemployed.

B.Don't ignore your health.

C.Stick to the goals that you can reach.

D.Don’t think you are physically disabled.

Something’s happening at the lowest point on our planet.

The Dead Sea, a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west, is shrinking at an alarming rate - about 3. 3 feet per year, according to the environmentalist group Eco Peace Middle East. And human actions are largely to blame.

"It's not just like one country is punishing the Dead Sea: it's more like the whole area,” said photographer Moritz Kustner, who visited the area in February to work on his series "The Dying Dead Sea”.

The Dead Sea needs water from the other natural sources surrounding it, such as the Jordan River basin. But around the 1960s, some of the water sources it relied upon were diverted. Israel, for instance, built a pipeline during that time so it could supply water throughout the country.

Mineral extraction industries are another main reason the water levels are falling, experts say. The Dead Sea's minerals have been used as medicine and can often be found in cosmetics and other consumer products.

And then, of course, there's the Middle East's hot, dry climate, which makes it difficult for the lake to replenish itself. Last year, Israel and Jordan signed a $900 million deal in an effort to keep the Dead Sea's water levels stable. It includes building a canal from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea which would be able to not only supply water to Israel and Jordan but also to pump water into the Dead Sea.

But for now, Kustner shows us that the Dead Sea remains very much a place of interest, with people from all over the world going there to swim in its salty waters

The Dead Sea, known as the Salt Sea in the language of Hebrew, is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. And because of what has been happening over the years, the salt is only getting saltier.

1.How many reasons for the Dead Seas shrinking does the author mention in the text?

A.One B.Two

C.Three D.Four

2.What can we learn about the Dead Sea 's minerals?

A.They have practical value.

B.They are controlled by Israel.

C.They can be extracted very easily.

D.They are mainly used in heavy industry.

3.What does the underlined word "replenish” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?

A.To clean something. B.To improve something.

C.To fill something again. D.To find something again.

4.What would be the best title for the text?

A.What we should do to save the Dead Sea. B.More people travel to the Dead Sea.

C.Why the Dead Sea is salty. D.The Dead Sea is drying out.

China’s artistic swimming duo (双人表演) Ms Jiang and her twin sister made history on Tuesday by gaining a sixth gold at the Asian Games, the most earned by any athletes in artistic swimming in its history. What makes the twin sisters’ achievement more remarkable is the fact that both of them returned from giving birth to baby daughters to do so.

"I’ve been their coach for over 20 years," said Ms Zheng. Women’s Duet coach, "ever since they were 8 years old. When they came back after having babies, their training plans were completely changed. I think they have already showed that female athletes can return to their best form after having a baby. "

The twin sisters announced their retirement after finishing a third at the 2013 China National Games. They went on to get married on the same day and their baby daughters arrived in 2015 and 2016. And after a three-year absence, the twins decided to come back to the pool.

"I think to reach a mature state in artistic swimming, athletes have to go through years of training. What keeps us going is our love of the sport," said one of them.

The 31-year-old twins won a well-deserved gold at the 2017 China National Games. At the third Asian Games, they claimed their sixth gold at the multi-sports meet to be a record in artistic swimming at the Games, and a result their coach wasn’t sure could happen when they first decided to come back.

"Because of our love of the sport, we overcame many hard times, especially the physical obstacles. After all, we’re no longer young. But now I think we are even better than before," said the other.

To be a mother while training and competing at the highest level means this gold medal seems much more than any of the others from before.

1.Why was the twins' achievement regarded to be extraordinary?

A.They won six gold medals at the Asian Games.

B.They got trained by plans that were totally different.

C.They got the most medals in artistic swimming in history.

C.Knowledge comes from practice. D.Nothing is too hard for a determined mind.

4.Where does the text probably come from?

A.A sports textbook. B.A research paper.

C.A news report. D.A sports brochure.

The mascot(吉祥物) for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games official made its public appearance on Tuesday. It was a cartoon character inspired by giant pandas. The smiling panda is named with Bing Dwen Dwen in Chinese. Color circles around its face symbolize skating tracks and 5G technology. Bing, Chinese word for "ice", shows purity and strength, but Dwen Dwen, means sincerity, liveliness and health — also characteristics of pandas. Perhaps pandas are the animals most easily recognizing by us in China. The mascot combines our traditional culture and how pandas look like with winter sports elements. The image shows our great expect of the Games and that our Chinese welcome the world.
