An artificial intelligence can accurately translate thoughts into sentences, at least for a limited vocabulary of 250 words. The system may bring us a step closer to _______ speech to people who have lost the ability.

Joseph Makin at the University of California, San Francisco, and his colleagues used deep learning algorithms(算法) to study the brain _______ of four women as they spoke. The women, who all suffer from a certain kind of brain disorder, already had electrodes attached to their brains to monitor disease attacks.

Each woman was asked to read aloud from a set of sentences as the team _______ brain activity. The largest group of sentences _______ 250 unique words. The team fed this brain activity to a network algorithm related to nerves, training it to _______ regularly occurring patterns that could be linked to repeated aspects of speech. These patterns were then fed to a second network, which tried to turn them into words to _________ a sentence.

Each woman repeated the sentences at least twice, and the final repetition didn’t form part of the training data, _______ the researchers to test the system. Each time a person speaks the same sentence, the brain activity associated will be similar but not exactly the same. “Memorizing the brain activity of these sentences wouldn’t help, _______ the network instead has to learn what’s similar about them so that it can generalize to this final example,” says Makin. Across the four women, the AI’s best performance was an average translation error rate of 3 per cent.

Makin says that using a small number of sentences made it _______ for the AI to learn which words tend to follow others. For example, the AI was able to __________ that the word “Bear” was always likely to follow the word “Teddy” in a certain set of sentences, from brain activity alone.

The team tried transforming the brain signal data into __________ words at a time, rather than whole sentences, but this __________ the error rate to 38 per cent even for the best performance. “So the network clearly is learning facts about which words go together, and not just which brain activity __________ with which words,”says Makin.

This will make it hard to scale up the system to a/an __________ vocabulary because each new word increases the number of possible sentences, reducing __________. Sophie Scott at University College London says we are a long way from being able to translate brain signal data comprehensively.

One day the Mullah, an important man in the village, found his donkey was gone when he wanted to go visit a friend. He was very angry and ran around to look for his donkey.

The Mullah ran about looking until he was too tired. He sat down to rest at his gate. A few friends came to join him.

"That no-good lazy donkey!" said he. "If I ever see her again, I'll sell her for a dollar!" Selling a donkey for a dollar was just a joke.

Just then the Mullah heard the sound of his donkey's feet. He looked around. There was his donkey.

On her back rode a boy.

"Where did you find her?" asked the Mullah. "We couldn't find her anywhere."

"I knew where I would go if I were a donkey," said the boy. "I found her eating grass with the sheep and goats."

Suddenly, the Mullah looked to one side and saw one of his friends holding up a dollar. On the other side he saw another with a dollar.

"I'll buy your donkey, " said the two. "I was joking!" said the Mullah.

"You didn't sound as if you were joking, " said the two.

The Mullah couldn't break his word. That would be wrong for an important person in the village. He certainly didn't want to sell his donkey for a dollar. So he said, "Meet me at the donkey fair on Saturday. I shall sell her at that time. I shall sell my donkey to the one who will treat her most kindly."

Everybody was kind to animals in the village. So the Mullah thought out a plan. He wanted to keep his word and also to keep his donkey.

On the night before the donkey fair, the Mullah bought a piece of rope

How to quickly get a paper done last minute

Being late on assignments isn’t something new for students. Busy lives often mean students don't  focus on their paper seriously until the deadline is right on their heads. 1. .

Understand the assignment

We tend to ignore work if we don’t fully understand what we need to do , mostly because we just don't have a clue where to start with it. Use the internet and help of friends and classmates to understand everything there is to know and what your teacher will expect from the paper.

Write an outline

2. This outline is the structure you will follow to complete the assignment. Make all headings and sub-headings and then all these headings should be sorted appropriately and according to the format required by the teacher.

Plan milestones with time limit

Divide the entire paper into parts  and calculate  how  much  time  it  will  take  to  finish  each  part. 3. Putting a time limit on yourself will make you more focused. Make sure you only set realistic goals. Set longer time-lines if you have to, but try to ensure the work is done within that time.

Get away from all distractions(干扰)

Focus is very important to get tasks done and things in our every day life can be distracting. Before you sit down to work, get rid of anything that may catch your attention. For example, keep your phone in a drawer away from view and put it on silent. 4. Unless all your friends and roommates are studying with you, then don't work around them as they could prove distracting too.

5.

An introduction is one of the most important and challenging parts of a paper to write. Don’t try to write it at the beginning -once you have written the paper, you will have better understanding and knowledge of the topic so write the intro then. Leave editing until you have finished writing your first draft too.

A.You can also find many useful sites for your research in a language other than English.

B.If you are unable to get any help from friends and the work requires too much  time, consider acquiring professional help.

C.Don’t start with the introduction.

D.Here are a few tips to help you quickly write a paper in the shortest time possible.

E.Go to a place where there are few or no people around you.

F.Once you understand what the topic is, create an outline for the entire paper.

G.Use that time as a goal and push yourself to complete a part within the time.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (孤独症)     is a disability that can cause serious social, communication and behavioral problems. There is often nothing about how people with ASD look that makes them different from other people, but people with ASD may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from most other people. The learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities of people with ASD can range from pretty good to extremely bad. Some people with ASD need a lot of help in their daily lives; others need less.

People with ASD often have problems with social, emotional, and communication skills. They might repeat certain behaviors and might not want change in their daily activities. Many people with ASD may also have difficulties learning, paying attention, or reacting to things. Signs of ASD begin during early childhood and probably last throughout a person’s life.

Diagnosing(诊断)ASD can be difficult since there is no medical test, like a blood test, to assess the disorders. Doctors look at the child’s behavior and development to make a judgement.ASD can sometimes be diagnosed at 18 months or younger. By age 2, an experienced doctor can be considered very reliable in diagnosing ASD .However, many children may not see a doctor until much older.

There is currently no cure for ASD. However, research shows that early treatment services can improve a child’s development.Early services help children from birth to 3 years old (36 months) learn important skills. Therefore, it is important to talk to your child’s doctor as soon as possible if you think  your child has ASD or other developmental problem.

We do not know all of the causes of ASD. However, Most scientists agree that genes are one of the highest risk factors that can make a person more likely to develop ASD.

If you think your child might have ASD or you think there could be a problem with the way your child plays, learns, speaks, or acts, contact your child’s doctor, and share your concerns. If you’re not sure who to contact, call the Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTA) at 919-962-2001. Or visit the ECTA website: https://etcacenter.org.

A car accident paralyzed(使瘫痪 )Chelsie Hill from the waist down, but that didn’t stop her from fulfilling her dream of dancing.

Since the age of three, Chelsie Hill had dreamed of becoming a dancer. “The only thing that I loved was dance.” she told CBS News. That ambition nearly ended one night in 2010. Hill, then a 17-year-old high school senior in Pacific Grove, California, was in a car accident that put her in the hospital for 51 days and left her paralyzed from the waist down. For most people, that would have destroyed any hope of a dancing career. For Hill, it was the beginning. Far from being an obstacle, her wheelchair encouraged her. “I wanted to prove to my community-and to myself-that I was still‘normal,’” she told Teen Vogue.

“Whatever normal meant.”

Normal for her meant dancing, so Hill did it in her wheelchair right alongside her non-disabled high school dance team, which definitely took her a lot of learning and patience.”

After graduation, Hill wanted to expand her dance network to include women like her. She met these people online and invited them to dance with her. “It was such an amazing experience.”

Hoping to reach more people in a larger city, Hill moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and formed a team of dancers with disabilities she calls the Rollettes. “I want to break down the stereotype of wheelchair users and show that dance is dance, whether you’re walking or you’re rolling.” she told CBS News.

Hill has realized what many of us never will: her childhood dream. She’s a dancer. But the Rollettes have helped her find something else just as meaningful. Every year she holds a dance camp for wheelchair users of all ages and abilities with an eye to helping them find their confidence. She calls it the Rollettes Experience, and in 2019, 173 participants from ten countries attended.

Edna Serrano says that being part of the Rollettes team has given her the courage to carry on her life. “I didn’t know I could do so many things that these girls have taught me,” she says. “ It’s so powerful to have my teammates in my life, because they’re my teachers. I have more strength.”

1.Why do you think Chelsie Hill formed a team called the Rollettes in 2014?

A.To improve the living conditions of the poor.

A robot designed to carry things moves quickly across a field to gather equipment at a sports event. Such equipment, like javelins and discuses (铁饼), has been thrown by competitors. Another robot moves a human-sized screen on wheels. It is designed to permit virtual attendance at the event. And then there are the robots designed to look like the smiling, friendly creatures or mascots that act as the Olympic Games’representatives.

All these robots are part of preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corporation presented the machines to reporters earlier this week. Toyota is a major supporter of the 2020 Olympic Games.

The mascot robots have moving arms and legs, and their eyes change to the image of stars and hearts. They cannot speak at all or walk very well. But Tomohisa Moridaira, lead engineer, suggested several possibilities, such as getting the robot to hold the Olympic torch using magnets.

The field support robot" is a small bus-shaped machine based on a Toyota ride-sharing vehicle that is still in development. The field support robot can travel as fast as 20 kilometers per hour. It holds three cameras and one special sensor that lets it surroundings. Around the top of its body are special lights that brighten when the vehicle is active. Its artificial intelligence helps it avoid barriers. It is also able to vary its path in order to protect areas of grass.

However, it cannot find the objects, which can weigh up to eight kilograms, or pick them up on its own. A person has to travel with the device, pick up the objects and put them in it. Then, with a press of a button, the vehicle transports the equipment to where it needs to go.

Takeshi Kuwabara took charge of the robots’ development. He said it was designed to team robots and humans. "Our aim was to leverage the strengths of both humans and robots," he said.

The carmaker plans to use the games to present its new vehicle technologies. These include buses fueled by a special kind of battery, and self-driving taxis. Toyota is competing with other carmakers and technology companies to develop low cost , robot-controlled cars and electric vehicles.

The official opening of Beijing Daxing International Airport caps a long design and building process. Designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid and her Chinese partners, the airport is built for the future, having a terminal the size of 97 soccer grounds---as well as customer-service robots that provide travelers with flight updates and airport information.

Called "starfish”by Chinese media for its shape of five concourses(大厅) connected to a main hall, Daxing Airport aims to reduce the walking distance for passengers. The airport authority has promised a distance of no more than 600 meters (about eight minutes of walking) between security checkpoints and the remotest boarding gate.

This new modern airport employs a special intelligent lighting system, supported by eight big C-shaped columns that let in the sunlight, brightening the architecture and structure. Therefore, it minimizes the need to use electric lighting.

To offer a more refreshing travel experience, five outdoor courtyards with the themes" Silk Garden", "Tea Garden"," Porcelain Garden", "Countryside Garden" and "Chinese garden" feature at the end of the five departure lounges(等候室) for use by passengers waiting for their flights. Travelers will be scanned on cameras using facial recognition. Counters will be fully automated to capture face photos and relay them in each part of the journey through the airport, including security and the departure gate.

China is projected to overtake the United States as the world's biggest air travel market by 2022. The "modest"initial operational target at Daxing is to accommodate 72 million passengers and 2 million tons of goods annually by 2025. The ambitious master plan calls for the building of a total of seven runways, and moving at least 100 million passengers and 4 million tons of goods a year through the airport.
